TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY SOLARA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD WAS CRACKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GETTEL TOYOTA OF CHARLOTTE COUNTY (1801 TAMIAMI TRAIL, PUNTA GORDA, FL 33950) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE REPAIR COST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 63,390.

ON MARCH 26,2020 I WENT TO DRIVE MY CAR. THE DASHBOARD WAS CRACKED, STICKY, AND MELTED THROUGHOUT. THE NEXT DAY I CALLED PRIORITY TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD (JOHN SERVICE MANAGER) THAT THEY WOULD NOT FIX IT DUE TO THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT NOTIFICATION-ZE6 WHICH ENDED MAY 31, 2017. ALSO, I HAD OWNED THE CAR FOR MORE THAN 10 YEARS. HE WOULD REPLACE IT AT MY COST OF APPROX. $2200 BUT HE WOULD PROVIDE AN EXACT AMOUNT WHEN I DECIDED TO FIX IT. THEN I EXPLORED THE INTERNET TO SEE THE SCOPE OF THE PROBLEM. IT CAN LEAD TO VISIBILITY PROBLEMS (GLARE) AND PROBLEMS WITH THE DASHBOARD AIRBAGS. YESTERDAY, APRIL 7, 2020 I CALLED THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER 1-888-2709371 AND SPOKE TO RANDALL WHO REPEATED WHAT JOHN HAD SAID, BUT ADDED THAT MY CAR WAS OLD AND NOT WORTH MUCH AND I HAD GOTTEN MY MONIES WORTH OUT OF IT. I ASKED WHO I COULD CALL NEXT AND HE SAID HE WAS THE END OF THE LINE. I WAS ASSIGNED A CASE #[XXX] BUT CAN'T SEE TO READ IT FOR MYSELF. THE CAR HAS REMAINED IN MY GARAGE SINCE I SAW THE PROBLEM ON MARCH 26. IT IS GETTING WORSE. IT WAS LAST DRIVEN ON MARCH 5 WITH NO PROBLEMS. NOTICED HAIRLINE CRACKS IN DASH PAD AND RELATED TRIM AND THE DASH PAD SURFACE WAS BECOMING INCREASINGLY STICKY TO THE TOUCH. THE GLARE OF THE STICKY DASH PAD AND THE ODOR IT EMITS...LEAVING A RESIDUE ON THE INSIDE OF THE WINDOWS. IT WAS NOT IN ANY ACCIDENTS OR WERE ANY UNKNOWN MATERIALS APPLIED TO THE DASH. I FEEL THIS IS A RECALL ITEM, ESPECIALLY SINCE THERE ARE COMPLAINTS AROUND THE GLOBE WITH THE TOYOTA DASHES. THE DASHBOARD OF MY 2006 SOLARA IS MELTING AND SETS OFF A HIGH REFLECTIVE GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD MAKING IT DANGEROUS AND DIFFICULT TO SEE OUT OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE DASH IS STICKY TO TOUCH - CAN NOT BE WIPED CLEAN. THE DASH PANEL ABOVE THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT IS CRACKING WHICH MAY EFFECT AIR BAG. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA - CASE # WITHHOLDING IN 2013 BUT THEY SAID THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF ANYONE ELSE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. TOYOTA SENT ME TO LOCAL DEALER. DEALER GAVE ME THE SAME ANSWER EVEN AFTER I HAD SEEN THOUSANDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON INTERNET. NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND WANTED $2200 TO REPLACE IT. *TR

THE DASHBOARD HAS CRACKED IN SEVERAL AREAS AND THE ISSUE SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE DAILY. I'VE CONTACTED TOYOTA MAIN HEADQUARTERS COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT SEVERAL TIMES AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT SINCE THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY THEY WILL NOT FIX IT AND IT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AT MY EXPENSE, I HAVE HEARD AND SEEN MANY REPORTS THAT THIS IS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM DUE TO USE OF INFERIOR PARTS USED BY TOYOTA AND OTHER MANUFACTURERS. CLASS ACTION SUITS HAVE BEEN INITIATED TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM.I WISH TO FORMERLY FILE MY COMPLAINT WITH YOUR AGENCY AS A POINT OF RECORD . THE DASH PAD SURFACE STARTED TO BECOME DARK IN COLOR AND STICKY TO THE TOUCH IN THE SUNSHINE. THE DASH PAD MATERIAL WAS VERY SHINY AND STICKY TO THE TOUCH, ALMOST LIKE A LIQUID. THE GLARE FROM THE SHINY, STICKY SURFACE CAUSES A GLARE ON THE INSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD THAT MAKES THE CAR DANGEROUS TO DRIVE...AND A GREATER CONCERN ARE THE AIRBAGS IN THE DASH AFFECTED BY THIS SURFACE DETERIORATION. I TOOK THE CAR TO TWO LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS SEEKING RESOLUTION AND WAS TOLD THEY HAVE SEEM NUMEROUS INSTANCES OF THIS AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO SHORT OF MY PAYING APPROX. $1,500 TO REPLACE THE PART. CONTACT WITH TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE HAD THEM TELLING ME I HAD DONE SOMETHING TO CAUSE THE SITUATION. TO-DATE THE CAR (MY WIFE'S VEHICLE) SITS INSIDE, UNDER A CUSTOM CAR COVER AND HAS LESS THAN 11,000 MILES...WE CONSIDER THE CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR

WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR IN 2010, IT HAD SOME CRACKS ABOVE THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT ON THE DASHBOARD, WHICH I TOOK TO HAVE REPAIRED AT A COST OF ABOUT $300. SINCE THEN, THE CRACKS KEEP OPENING, TO THE POINT WHERE THEY WILL HAVE A SERIOUS IMPACT ON THE RESALE OF THE CAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP AND HAVE AN ESTIMATE OF $2200 TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE DASH. I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND GOT AN ESTIMATE OF $2400!! TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE DASH. NO HELP WHATSOEVER. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT MANY LEXUS AUTOMOBILES HAVE A SIMILAR PROBLEM AND NOW LEARN THAT THERE ARE 73 COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SOLARA. IT WOULD BE NICE TO KNOW THAT SOMEONE IS LOOKING INTO THE PROBLEM AND PERHAPS THAT TOYOTA WILL BE FORCED TO MAKE APPROPRIATE REPAIRS. *TR

I HAVE A TOYOTA CAMRY SOLARA 2006, WHEN I GOT MY CAR, I FEEL IN LOVE WITH IT, AND IT MADE ME SO HAPPY, I ALSO LOVE CONVERTIBLES, AND I LOVED THE WAY IT FELT, AND I COULD SIT UP HIGH INSTEAD OF LOW, CAUSE I HAVE BACK PROBLEMS. THE OTHER DAY I SAW A CRACK IN THE DASH, WHICH BROKE MY HEART, AND THE NEXT FEW DAY'S, I SAW MORE CRACKS OVER MY STEERING WHEEL .MY CAR IS KEPT UNDER A GARAGE. I WANTED TO KEEP THIS CARE FOREVER, CAUSE IT WAS SO PERFECT FOR ME, NOW THIS HAS REALLY UPSET ME, CAUSE MY BEAUTIFUL CAR HAS CRACKS IN IT NOW, AND I WONDER WHAT ELSE IS GOING TO HAPPEN.
