There was unexpected and unintended acceleration that resulted in hitting a house and causing a lot of damage.
WHEN SLOWING DOWN ON INTERSECTION ON THE STOP SIGN WITH THE INTENTION TO COMPLETELY STOP, I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND REMOVED MY FOOT COMPLETELY FROM ACCELARATOR PEDAL. CAR ENGINE SUDDENLY REVS UP AND ENGINE RPM SHOOTS UP, I NEED TO PRESS BRAKE REALLY VERY HARD TO STOP THE CAR TO GO INTO THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION OR EVENTUALLY CAR WIILL ROLL INTO INTERSECTION AND I HAD TO CROSS THE INTERSECTION TO AVOID COLLISION WITH VEHICLES COMING ON CROSS INTERSECTION. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 5-6 TIMES. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC AND HE RAN THE DIAGNOSTICS TEST BUT COULD NOT FIND ANY THING WRONG. I TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN FREEHOLD HE SUGGESTED TO REMOVE THE UNSECURED FLOOR MAT, WHICH I DID BUT STILL HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THIS ISSUE WAS EXPERIENCED YESTERDAY ALSO 2 TIMES.

THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED, WHICH CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO THE OTHER VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT SUSTAINED ARM AND BACK INJURIES AND THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED NECK AND BACK INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE BODY DAMAGE WAS REPAIRED. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

SLOWLY ENTERED RITE AID PARKING LOT AT 5-10 MPH. TURNED RIGHT INTO A PARKING SPOT. LIGHTLY TAPPED THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR WENT FASTER THAN IF YOU WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. CAR JUMPED THE CONCRETE BUMPER ONTO THE WALKWAY. HAD TO CUT THE WHEEL ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID HITTING THE BRICK WALL OF THE STORE AND DROVE INTO THE PARKING LOT GUARD RAIL. CAR WENT INTO A HIGH SPEED SKID AND WHEN IT CAME OUT OF THE SKID WAS STILL ACCELERATING AT A VERY HIGH SPEED AND HAD TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF FOR IT TO STOP. THERE WERE SKID MARKS AND SMOKE. AIR BAG DID NOT GO OFF. WAITING TO HEAR FROM TOYOTA WITH A DATE TO HAVE THE CAR INSPECTED. WOULD LIKE FOR TOYOTA TO BUY BACK MY CAR WHICH WE HAVE SPENT TOP DOLLAR HAVING TOYOTA MAINTAIN IT FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS, WHICH INCLUDED THE 100,000 MILE SERVICE JUST A WEEK OR TWO BEFORE THE ACCIDENT. MY WIFE AND I WERE DRIVING OUR 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID ON CARY PARKWAY IN CARY, NC. I WAS AT THE WHEEL AND COASTING WITH NO FOOT ON THE GAS OR BRAKE AND NOTICED THE ENGINE ACCELERATING SLIGHTLY. IT WAS NOT A SCARY SITUATION BECAUSE THE ROAD WAS OPEN IN FRONT OF ME AND THE SPEED WAS NOT FAST BUT I COULD TELL THE ENGINE WAS NOT COASTING AND SLOWING DOWN AS EXPECTED AND I TOLD MY WIFE. I TAPPED THE GAS PEDAL AND THEN THE CAR STARTED TO COAST AND SLOW AS EXPECTED. IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED AGAIN AND I KNOW IF I REPORTED IT TO MY DEALER THEY WOULD TELL ME THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG SO I HAVEN'T BOTHERED. IT FELT LIKE THE THROTTLE WAS MECHANICALLY STUCK. I SHOULD MENTION THAT THIS CAR HAD A DEFECTIVE WELD IN THE RIGHT FRONT AND WHEN THE CAR WAS NEW AND STARTED CREAKING, THE DEALER HAD IT TAKEN TO A BODY SHOP AND A BAD WELD UNDER THE RIGHT FRONT FENDER WAS REPAIRED. *TR

WHILE DRIVING ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, I BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN AS I APPROACHED A CAR PULLED OFF TO THE RIGHT HAND SIDE. MY CAR ACCELERATED. I HAD BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE. THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. I'M GUESSING IT HIT 80 MPH. A FEW TERRIFYING SECONDS LATER, THE CAR WAS BACK UNDER CONTROL. NO ACCIDENT. NO DAMAGE. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO A LOCAL, REPUTABLE GARAGE AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. THE VEHICLE HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN SERVICED FOR ALL RECALLS RELATED TO VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL. THE CONTACT WILL SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 30,650. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,532.
