TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID PERFORMANCE. MY 18 OLD DAUGHTER JUST PURCHASED THIS CAR FROM THIS MAN WHO HAD RESET THE CAR SO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD GO OFF. AFTER US DRIVING IT HOME AND SERVER MILES LATER IT WENT OFF. HE SAID HE HAD FLUSHED THE TRANSMISSION OIL AND THAT HIS MECHANIC HAD TOLD HIM TO JUST RESET IT AND IT WOULD BE FINE OBVIOUSLY IT WAS NOT FINE. WE TOOK IT TO OUR MECHANIC WHO IS A VERY HONEST MECHANIC HAD STATED THAT THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE . HE PULLED UP SOME RECALLS AND INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL DONE ON MODELS 04305 COROLLA UNFORTUNATELY THE VIN NUMBERS WERE 1ZZ -FE. I'M CALLING THE DEALERSHIPS AND ALL THEY CAN TELL ME IS THAT THIS MAY HAVE BEEN AN EXPIRED RECALL ON MY VEHICLE THEREFORE IT'S NO LONGER UNDER THE WARRANTY OF THE RECALL . THEY'RE NOT TELLING ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS THEY'RE JUST SAYING THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS PARTICULAR VIN NUMBER . WITH ALL THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE I'VE SEEN A LOT OF THIS ISSUE HAS ARRIVED WITH OTHER VIN NUMBERS BUT NO RECALL HAS BEEN OPEN . AT THIS POINT I'M NOT EVEN TOO SURE WHAT TO DO OTHER THAN GET A NEW TRANSMISSION OR REBUILT THIS TRANSMISSION.

THE VEHICLE STARTED SHOWING THE "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" AND THE ERROR CODE SHOWN WAS P0741. THE ERROR CODE SUGGESTS ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCH CONVERTER SOLENOID. THIS ISSUES SEEMS TO BE COMMON ON THE 2005 COROLLA AND COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE IF THE TRANSMISSION DIES IMMEDIATELY WHILE DRIVING ON A FREEWAY OR HIGH-SPEED ROAD.

ONLY 94,000 MILES, FULLY DEALER MAINTAINED, 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. TRAVELING AT EXPRESSWAY SPEEDS AND LOUD SCREECHING/BANGING FROM TRANSMISSION. WAS ABLE TO DRIVE 6 MORE MILES TO DEALERSHIP, BUT MOVED TO RIGHT LANE AND WENT SLOWER. STILL WAS ABLE TO SHIFT, LOWER GEARS WEREN'T ENGAGING PROPERLY AND CAR STARTED DYING ON THE ROAD. DEALER DIAGNOSIS FOR $100 IS THAT IT NEEDS AN ENTIRE NEW 5 SPD TRANS AND CLUTCH ASSEMBLY, ALTHOUGH CLUTCH SEEMS FINE.I'VE DRIVEN MANUAL TRANS FOR OVER 40 YRS. THIS CAR NEVER EVEN HAD A CLUTCH REPAIR. RESEARCH ON THE WEB INDICATES THAT THIS IS A KNOWN POINT OF FAILURE THAT TOYOTA HAS CHOSEN NOT TO FIX AND THE POTENTIAL DANGER OF HAVING THIS TRANSMISSION BLOWING OUT AT HIGH SPEED COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR CRASH ON THE HIGHWAY HAD I NOT BEEN SKILLED AT GETTING THE CAR INTO A SAFE AREA. *TR

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WAS SCANNED BY A LOCAL SHOP WAS ADVISED OF THE CODE P0741 WAS TOLD MY TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPAIRED AT THE COST OF 2495.00 I HAVE NOT HAD THE MONEY TO FIX THE CAR WAS TOLD BY A FRIEND WHO WORKS FOR A SHOP THERE WAS A TSB FOR THIS CODE FOR MY CAR CALLED TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO SINCE THE WARRANTY IS UP ON MY CAR. I ASKED WHY THIS WAS NOT ADDRESSED WHEN MY CAR WAS TAKEN FOR THE ECM RECALL AND THE LADY FROM TOYOTA NAMED [XXX] BECAME VERY RUDE AND TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO AND THERE IS NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROGRAM AVAILABLE FOR YOUR VEHICLE AND ASKED IF THERE IS ANYTHING ELSE SHE COULD HELP ME WITH. IN APRIL 2012 I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE; THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. APPARENTLY THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE ECM OF THE CAR. IT WAS REPLACED AND SEEMED FINE. IN JULY I HEARD A GRINDING SOUND ON MY CAR. I BROUGHT IT TO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY FIXED THE ISSUE. IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL LINE. THEY DID A FLUSH ON ALL FLUIDS AND OTHER WORK. THE CAR WORKS GREAT. A WEEK LATER THE VEHICLE IS "CHOKING AND JERKING" WHEN I HIT THE GAS. SOUNDS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION. DEALERSHIP STATES IT IS A TRANSMISSION ISSUE. THEY LOOK IT OVER AND NOW I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. I'VE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR BEFORE. CAR WAS RUNNING WITH THE SHIFT IN THE PARK POSITION FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 OR 6 MINUTES. SUDDENLY IT STARTING ROLLING FAST IN REVERSE. I WAS STANDING NEXT TO THE CAR ON THE PHONE AND WHEN IT STARTED TO ROLL DIDN'T REALIZE HOW FAST IT WAS MOVING SO I TRIED TO JUMP IN TO STOP IT. I WAS UNABLE TO MAKE IT IN TO THE CAR, FELL AND ROLLED UNDERNEATH IT AND THE FRONT TIRE RAN OVER THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY BODY. THE CAR CONTINUED TO MOVE FAST UNTIL IT CAME TO A HILL WHERE IT THEN TURNED AROUND IN TO THE FORWARD POSITION (NOT IN REVERSE) AND STARTED MOVING VERY SLOWLY UNTIL IT HIT A TREE AND STOPPED. I SUSTAINED A CRUSH INJURY TO MY RIGHT SIDE, FRACTURING ALL OF MY RIBS IN MULTIPLE PLACES (FLAIL CHEST). WAS TAKEN TO A LEVEL 1 TRAUMA HOSPITAL AND ADMITTED IN TO INTENSIVE CARE. SPENT A NUMBER OF WEEKS IN THE HOSPITAL AND A 6 MONTH RECOVERY AT HOME. STILL HAVE OPEN FRACTURES. WHEN THE CAR WAS CHECKED BY THE POLICE IT WAS STILL IN PARK WITH THE IGNITION IN THE RUNNING POSITION ALTHOUGH THE CAR WAS NOT RUNNING. SOMETHING WENT SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION THAT DAY. *JS

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN REGARDS TO RECALL 10V384000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). PRIOR TO HER TAKING THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE RECALL REPAIR, SHE EXPERIENCED THE DIFFICULTY SHIFTING. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED, SHE NOTICED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER AND ADVISED HER THAT SHE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 144,800.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V384000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND WOULD NEED REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL YET THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE SAME FAILURE CODES WERE PRODUCED BY THE DIAGNOSTIC AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD ALSO NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT A CASE MANAGER WOULD BE IN TOUCH WITH THE CONTACT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.

I OWE A TOYOTA MATRIX 2005, WHICH WAS PURCHASED ON 11/2004. THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS 23,280 MILES AND HAS BEEN ROUTINELY SERVICED AT WESTCHESTER TOYOTA SINCE ITS PURCHASE. BEFORE BRINGING MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE TO WESTCHESTER TOYOTA ON 11/11/10, THE 'CHECK ENGINE LIGHT' HAD NEVER COME ON AND MY CAR WAS NOT GENERATING THE CURRENT VIBRATING NOISE. I AM NOT QUALIFIED TO DETERMINE WHETHER WT COULD HAVE INTENTIONALLY OR INADVERTENTLY CAUSED THE DAMAGE TO MY CAR, BUT I CONSIDER THE POSSIBILITY THAT THE DAMAGE TO MY CAR'S TRANSMISSION COULD HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THEM. BASED ON WHAT THE SERVICE MANAGER , MR. WILLIAM VESEY, INDICATED DURING MY MEETINGS WITH HIM, THE TRANSMISSION MAY HAD BEEN DAMAGED /MALFUNCTIONING ALL ALONG WHILE THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY BUT THE DAMAGE/MALFUNCTION WAS NEVER DETECTED BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL ECM ON THE CAR MAY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DETECT THE DAMAGE SINCE THE ECM WAS FAULTY ITSELF. FOR THIS REASON, WHEN THE ECM WAS REPLACED ON 11/11/10 DUE TO THE RECALL, THE NEW ECM WAS ABLE TO DETECT THE PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND GENERATED THE TRANSMISSION ERROR CODE. SINCE THE ECM WAS RECALLED AFTER MY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED AND ITS MALFUNCTIONING MOST LIKELY PREVENTED THE DETECTION OF THE TRANSMISSION ERROR, I BELIEF TOYOTA SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION. IN ADDITION , THE TRANSMISSION ALSO APPEARS TO BE A FAULTY PART WHICH MAY BE RECALLED IN THE FUTURE BASED ON THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN PROVIDED TO ME BY MR. VESEY. WESTCHESTER TOYOTA SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION, FREE OF CHARGE INCLUDING ANY LABOR AND PARTS CHARGES. TOYOTA MOTOR SALES USA SHOULD AUTHORIZE AND COVER THE CHARGES FOR THE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. THE EARLIER RECALL OF MY CAR'S ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) WOULD HAVE ALLOWED FOR THE DETECTION OF ANY TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WHILE MY CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. *TR

INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) TO ADD SOME ADDITIONAL FUEL TO THE TOYOTA FIRE STORM.....I AM THE OWNER OF A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA THAT RECENTLY HAD A "COMPUTER PROBLEM" DIAGNOSED AS A SHIFT SOLENOID PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM WAS A KNOWN ISSUE TO TOYOTA AND IT WAS SUCH AN ISSUE, THERE WAS A TSB (TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN) WRITTEN TO HELP MECHANICS DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. I STOPPED BY THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE (NEW) AND THEY TOLD ME TO CALL TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE - WHICH I DID. ALTHOUGH THEY ADMITTED TO AND RECOGNIZED THE PROBLEM, THEY SAID THEY WOULD ONLY PARTIALLY REIMBURSE PEOPLE WHO HAD LESS THAN 80,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLES. I HAD OVER THAT AMOUNT. MY MECHANIC SAID IF I WERE TO TAKE IT TO A TOYOTA GARAGE, THEY WOULD JUST HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM WITHOUT TELLING ME ABOUT IT, RATHER THAN HAVE A RECALL. THAT IS THE WAY THEY CIRCUMVENT THE SYSTEM AND HAVE HIGH QUALITY NUMBERS. THEY FIX THINGS WHILE THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR OTHER ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. SINCE I DO ALL OF MY OWN MAINTENANCE - EXCEPT FOR MAJOR ITEMS - THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO FIX MY CAR. I WOULD LIKE THIS TO BE ADDED TO THE EXPANDING FILE ON TOYOTA. PERSONALLY, I THINK I SHOULD HAVE BEEN REIMBURSED FOR THE ALMOST $2000 IT COST TO REPLACE ONE OF THE FOUR SHIFT SOLENOID VALVES IN THE TRANSMISSION AND THEN HAVE THE FAULTY COMPUTER REPLACED. ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN AND DOCUMENTED PROBLEM WITH BOTH COROLLA'S AND MATRIX'S. THEY HAVE DONE THIS A LOT IN THE PAST AND SHOULD BE NAILED FOR THIS AND OTHER EPISODES. I CAN TELL YOU AS I TOLD THE LADY IN CUSTOMER SERVICE - THIS WAS THE FIRST AND LAST TOYOTA VEHICLE I WILL EVER PURCHASE. I PURCHASED THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE BECAUSE I DROVE FROM PEORIA TO INDIANAPOLIS WEEKLY FOR WORK AS A CONSULTANT AND IT HAD DECENT GAS MILEAGE. I WILL PURCHASE A GM OR FORD PRODUCT GOING FORWARD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 129,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

IN OTHER WORDS, AS I INCREASED IN SPEED IT WOULD MAKE A HARD SHIFT OR SOMETHING LIKE IT. TURNS OUT THAT THE ECM IS BAD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. FROM DOING A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM AND DEFINITELY POSES A SAFETY RISK. 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA LE 4 DOOR SEDAN. INCIDENT MILEAGE 106,000; CURRENT MILEAGE 108,000. HARSH SHIFT, ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WITH DTC P2716. OCCURS CONSTANTLY. CAR (ESPECIALLY IN LOW GEARS) LURCHES FORWARD AS IT SHIFTS TO THE NEXT GEAR. I HAVE TO BE EXTRA CAREFUL OF MY SPACING TO ENSURE I DON'T ACCIDENTALLY HIT SOMEONE. TOYOTA SERVICE BULLETIN TC015-07 SAYS THE ECM SHOULD BE REPLACED AT THE TUNE OF 800+ DOLLARS. ALTHOUGH I AM OVER THE 80K MILES WARRANTY FOR THE TOYOTA FEDERAL EMISSIONS WARRANTY "THIS WARRANTY IS IN EFFECT FOR 96 MONTHS OR 80,000 MILES, WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST, FROM THE VEHICLE?S IN-SERVICE DATE.", I DON'T THINK THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR A KNOWN DEFECTIVE COMPONENT, ESPECIALLY SINCE MOST OF MY MILES ARE OPEN-HIGHWAY COMMUTING AND I AM LESS THAN THE 8 YEARS OF THE WARRANTY'S TIME LIMIT. OUR 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA IS HAVING MAJOR PROBLEMS SHIFTING (LURCHING AND STUCK GEARS), AND THE CAR IS NOW UNSAFE FOR US TO DRIVE ON THE ROAD (WE ARE LIKELY TO GET REAR-ENDED IF WE CONTINUE TO DRIVE). WE HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO OUR MECHANIC AND BEEN INFORMED THAT WE HAVE A DEFECTIVE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. THIS PROBLEM IS DESCRIBED IN TOYOTA'S TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN TC014-06. THERE IS AN 8YR/80K MILE WARRANTY ON THIS PART, BUT OUR CAR HAS OVER 100K MILES SO TOYOTA CLAIMS THAT THEY HAVE NO RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR OF THIS DEFECT. HOWEVER, GIVEN THE SAFETY CONCERNS WITH DRIVING THE CAR (AND OUR FEAR OF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT), WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO FIX THE DEFECT AND BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRING THE DEFECT. *TR

I PURCHASED A 2005 4 DOOR TOYOTA COROLLA CE FROM A DEALER HERE IN PUERTO RICO. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE BRAND NEW. I AM STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON THIS VEHICLE HAS I AM GOING INTO MY 4TH YEAR THIS YEAR OF MAKING PAYMENTS. THE DEALER SUGGESTED TRANSMISSION OIL CHANGE SERVICE EVERY 15,000 MILES. MY VEHICLE HAS ALREADY OVER 72,000 HIGHWAY MILES. SO FAR I HAVE DONE 3 TRANSMISSION OIL CHANGES MAINLY BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT CHEAP. LAST DECEMBER I NOTICED THAT THE CARS TRANSMISSION AT CERTAIN PERIODS WOULD NOT SHIFT WHILE IDLING AND THEN TAKING OFF. MY CAR HAS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE THINKING THAT IT WAS TIME FOR AN TRANSMISSION OIL CHANGE. LAST NIGHT AGAIN I NOTICED THAT THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT. I PARKED THE VEHICLE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK, AND THEN STARTED INTO DRIVE AGAIN. FOR SOME REASON THAT SEEMS TO WORK AND FROM THEN ON THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO WORK FINE. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE AND I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY COLLISIONS WITH THIS VEHICLE. I WAS ACTUALLY LOOKING FOR RECALLS ON THE NHTSA FOR THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE AND ALL I COULD FIND WAS A RECALL FOR THE FRONT HEAD LAMPS FROM ENCO. PLS REPLY *TR
