TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE TOOK HIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE V BELT WHICH WAS A PART OF THE ENGINE. THE BELT WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED AT 14,000 MILES AND HAD FAILED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HE HAD TO PAY $192 FOR THE REPAIRS SINCE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED HIM THAT THE PREVIOUS REPAIR PARTS WERE ONLY GUARANTEED FOR A YEAR. THE CONTACT WILL HAVE TO PAY THE REPAIR COST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,215. I TRIED REPEATEDLY TO HAVE THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE REPLACED IN MY 2007 COROLLA AS I WAS INSTRUCTED TO DO IN THREE SAFETY RECALL NOTICES. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO TOYOTA OF EL CAJON THE FIRST TIME ON JUNE 28TH AFTER RECEIVING A NOTICE THAT STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE READY. THE PART WAS (APPARENTLY) ORDERED BY TOYOTA OF EL CAJON, AND I WAS ASKED TO LEAVE MY CAR OVERNIGHT. THE NEXT DAY I WAS ASKED TO PICK UP THE CAR BECAUSE THE PART HAD NOT COME IN. I WAS TOLD TO WAIT TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT UNTIL THE PART CAME IN. NO ONE CALLED ME TO SCHEDULE THE APPOINTMENT. I WENT ONLINE AROUND JULY 18TH AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR JULY 25TH. I BROUGHT MY CAR IN AND WAITED 1 HOUR. THE SERVICE MANAGER THEN CAME AND TOLD ME THAT THE PART WAS NOT THERE, AND THAT HE WOULD NEED TO RE-ORDER IT. HE TOLD ME HE WOULD CALL ME AND THAT IF I DIDN'T HEAR FROM HIM IN A WEEK TO CALL HIM. I CALLED HIM TWO WEEKS LATER AND HE TOLD ME THAT THE PART WAS STILL NOT IN. HE TOLD ME HE WOULD CALL ME TO FOLLOW UP, BUT NEVER DID. I HAVEN'T HEARD BACK FROM TOYOTA OF EL CAJON SINCE THEN. I FILED AN INCIDENT REPORT ([XXX]) ON TOYOTA'S WEBSITE ON AUGUST 16, 2011, BUT I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RESPONSE. I ALSO TRIED CALLING TOYOTA'S CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER TODAY, AUGUST 23, BUT THE CALL CENTER IS DOWN AND I COULD NOT GET THROUGH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS NECESSARY TO REMEDY THE FAILURE WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND THEY WERE UNSURE AS TO WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED AFTER RECEIVING THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN I.D. NUMBER 10V384000 ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING RECALL REPAIR PERFORMED, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS WORKING FINE BEFORE THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE THE CONTACT WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER DID NOT PERFORM A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT STATED THE STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT REMAIN IDLE. THE DEALER TURNED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OFF AND CLEANED THE THROTTLE. A MONTH AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL. THE CONTACT STATED OCCASIONALLY THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE MAY NEED ANOTHER THROTTLE CLEANING BUT A DIAGNOSTIC TEST NEEDED TO BE PERFORMED. THE ADDITIONAL DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS NOT PERFORMED SINCE THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.

THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD PROGRESS AND AFFECT OTHER COMPONENTS OF THE VEHICLE OR THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL BEFORE HE WAS ABLE TO HAVE THE RECALL REPAIRS PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLES THAT WERE ON THE ASSEMBLY LINE WOULD RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIRS FIST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED TIME FRAME OF WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,400. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE AND GASKET. UPDATED 04/29/11

WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER THE RECALL, THE CONTACT NOTICED THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND A VIBRATION IN THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT STATED PRIOR TO THE RECALL REPAIR THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK IN THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING NOR WAS IT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
THE POWER DIED WHEN I WAS ON A VERY BUSY THOROUGHFARE AT RUSH HOUR. I HAD TO CROSS SEVERAL LANES OF TRAFFIC AND WAS BARELY ABLE TO CRAWL TO THE SHOULDER. I WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD THE ENGINE COMPUTER MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE. I UNDERSTAND TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, BUT HAS YET TO GIVE RECALL DETAILS TO THEIR CUSTOMERS OR TO THEIR DEALERSHIPS. WHAT ARE THEY WAITING FOR? I COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OR CAUSED ONE. IF TOYOTA WON'T MOVE ON THEIR OWN, PLEASE FORCE THEM TO ACT. LIVES ARE AT RISK!
IN MARCH 2007, I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW TOYOTA COROLLA. MORE THAN THREE MONTHS AGO MY CAR STARTED HAVING MAJOR PROBLEMS WHEN I TRY TO TURN TO CAR ON. FIRST THE CAR ENGINE DID NOT TURN ON RIGHT AWAY, SO I HAD TO KEEP TRYING TO TURN IT ON, THEN THE CAR DID NOT TURN ON AT ALL. I GOT STOCK AT THE SUPERMARKET PARKING LOT ONE DAY BECAUSE THE CAR WAS DEAD. I TOOK IT TO HAVE A BATTERY CHECK AND THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE BATTERIES OF THE CAR WAS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, SO THE PROBLEM WAS THE ENGINE OF THE CAR. COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER, I RECEIVED A LETTER BY TOYOTA EXPLAINING ME THAT THEY RECALLED MY CAR WITH A MAJOR PROBLEM IN THE ENGINE, THE LETTER STATED THAT I NEEDED TO BE CAREFUL BECAUSE MY CAR ENGINE CAN TURN OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALER TO HAVE THEN CHECK THE CAR, AND THEY DID NOT EVEN TOUCH MY CAR, THEY TOLD ME THAT WHEN MY CAR TURN OFF AGAIN, TO CALL THEM OR HAVE MY CAR TOLL TO THEIR PLACE. TWO DAYS AFTER I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE CAR STARTED HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. IT MAKES A WEAR SOUND WHEN I PUT MY KEYS IN THE ENGINE AND TRY TO TURN THE CAR ON. I TAKE ANY TRIES BEFORE THE CAR TURN ON, SO I CALLED TOYOTAS CORPORATE NUMBER AND THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND IT DID IT; HOWEVER, THEY DID NOT EVEN TOUCH MY CAR. THEY LEAVED PARKED ON A SIDE OF THE LOT AND THEY WAITED MORE THAN TWO HOURS TO TELL ME AGAIN THAT I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE CAR DOES NOT TURN ON AGAIN SO THEY CAN TAKE A LOOK OF THE ENGINE. THEY TOLD ME THAT TOYOTA IS WORKING ON A RESOLUTION FOR MY PROBLEM AND BY THE END OF NOVEMBER, I WILL GET A SECOND LETTER FROM TOYOTA STATING THE SOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM AND TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP SO THEY CAN FIX IN. TODAY IS DECEMBER 14, 2010 AND I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY OTHER COMMUNICATION FROM TOYOTA. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN MY CAR BECAUSE I HAVE TO KIDS AND I'M AFRAID THAT SOMETHING CAN HAPPEN TO US WHILE I AM DRIVING MY UNSAFE CAR. I REQUEST AN ACTION FROM TOYOTA BECAUSE I AM PAYING FOR A CAR THAT I AM NOT USING. *TR
MY COROLLA 2007 STOPPED ON THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT SUDDENLY ON AND BATTERY LIGHT IS ALSO ON WITHOUT ANY WARNING. AFTER TWO MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO TURN ON AND DREW ONE BLOCK TO A MECHANIC SHOP AND ASKED THEM TO CHECK BATTERY AND OTHER PROBLEMS. MECHANIC SAID BATTERY IS WEAK, HE RECOMMENDED TO CHANGE BATTERY, BUT HE SAID SOME OTHER PROBLEMS MAY EXIST. I ASKED HIM TO CHANGE BATTERY. HE CHANGED AND IT STARTED OK. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. AFTER I DREW THREE SIGNALS, CAR STOPPED ON THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AGAIN WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT SUDDENLY ON WITHOUT ANY WARNING AND BATTERY LIGHT IS ALSO ON. I TOWED THE CAR TO DEALER. AS PER INVOICE THEY DID FOLLOWING WORK. ?P0607- ECM SHORTENED, REPLACED ECM AND RE-CHECKED: OPERATES AS DESIGNED?. MY CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY, THEY DID NOT CHARGE FOR PARTS AND SERVICE. I STRONGLY BELIEVE IT IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. IF THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED ON FREEWAY, THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS AND LEAD TO FATAL CRASH. *TR
2007 TOYOTA COROLLA S SMOKES DUE TO OIL SLUDGE, VEHICLE SMOKES WHEN FIRST STARTING AND PERIODICALLY DURING THE DAY. I TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE WAS SLUDGED DUE TO POOR MAINTENANCE, IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT THERE ARE 3245 OTHER TOYOTA OWNERS WHO WERE TOLD THE SAME THING, "HOW CAN THIS BE TRUE" ? THIS CLEARLY LOOKS TO BE A DEFECT THAT TOYOTA DOES NOT WANT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR, AND THIS LOOKS TO BE A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR TOYOTA OWNERS. I HEARD OF ENGINES FAILING BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE, AND REPORT OF FIRES AND ENGINES SEIZING WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAYS, AND TOYOTA WILL DO NOTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY ARE NOT HONORING THAT WARRANTY. *TR

THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE REPAIR SHOULD HAVE CORRECTED THE FAILURE, BUT IT DID NOT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,700 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 58,000.

THE ENGINE WOULD SOUND LIKE A GO KART. IT WAS THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD THAT WAS LOOSE AT THE ENGINE. THE LEAKING EXHAUST WOULD SURELY BE MIXING IN WITH THE INSIDE AIR AND WOULD HEAT UP THE HOOD AND SURROUNDING AREAS. BOLTS NEEDED TO BE TIGHTENED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES SHE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THERE WAS A FAILURE WITHIN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE HAS NOT RECURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,728 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,000.
2007 TOYOTA COROLLA STALLED ON THE EVENING OF 15 APR 2010. THE NEXT MORNING WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO OUR TOYOTA DEALER (WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED). WHEN I CALLED THE SERVICE ADVISOR TO TELL HIM THE VEHICLE WAS ON THE WAY AND DESCRIBED WHAT HAPPENED, HE IMMEDIATELY STATED THE "OH, IT'S THE COMPUTER" AS IF THIS WAS A FAIRLY COMMON OCCURRENCE. THE REPAIR WAS MADE AT NO CHARGE BUT WE WERE FORTUNATE THAT IT HAPPENED IN FRONT OF OUR HOUSE AND I WAS ABLE TO PARK THE CAR ON THE STREET. THERE HAVE BEEN NO MORE OCCURRENCES. *TR
AFTER DRIVING FOR SOME TIME, THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND THE CAR STARTS TO LOSE POWER. WITHIN ONE MINUTE THE CAR SHAKES VIOLENTLY AND STALLS OUT. THIS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS FOR THE PAST YEAR. IT HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY AND ON CITY STREETS. WHEN IT HAPPENS, I HAVE TO GLIDE OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND HOPE THERE'S A PLACE WHERE I CAN PARK THE CAR. SO FAR, THERE HAS NOT BEEN AN ACCIDENT. AFTER TWO MINUTES, I AM ABLE TO START DRIVING THE CAR AGAIN. THE CAR WAS AT TOYOTA, AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE WATER PUMP LEAKING. THIS WAS DONE. BUT THE CAR IS STILL STALLING DURING DRIVING. SO PROBLEM IS STILL NOT FIXED. *TR

MY 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA STALLED WHILE DRIVING ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER IT WAS THE COMPUTER AND IT RESULTED IN THE DEALER REPLACING THE COMPUTER. LUCKILY IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. ON ONE OF THE OCCASIONS, HOWEVER, I WAS ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY WITH MY 7 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. NOT A SAFE SITUATION. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED. THE SIMILAR FAILURE RECURRED ON A DIFFERENT OCCASION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO GENERATE A TROUBLE CODE HOWEVER, FURTHER INSPECTION WAS BEING PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
MY 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA HAD TROUBLE STARTING, THEN DIED TWICE. ON THE THIRD ATTEMPT, IT STARTED AND SOUNDED NORMAL. I WAS ON A DRIVE HOME WITH MY GRANDSONS. I CALLED MY DEALER AND WAS ADVISED TO GO TO A DEALER NEAR MY LOCATION. THEY FOUND THAT THERE WAS NO COMMUNICATION WITH THE ENGINE COMPUTER. THEY REPLACED THE COMPUTER FOR NO CHARGE SINCE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. WHEN I FURTHER QUESTIONED THEM, THEY SAID THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT OF 2007 AND 2008 TOYOTA COROLLAS AND THEY KEEP THE NECESSARY PART IN STOCK. WHEN I ASKED WHY I WASN'T INFORMED ABOUT THIS OR WHY THERE WAS NO RECALL, THEY SAID NOT ALL OF THESE CARS HAD A PROBLEM SO TOYOTA DETERMINED THAT A RECALL WOULD BE TOO EXPENSIVE. I HAD A 2 HOUR DELAY, FAR FROM HOME, WITH MY GRANDSONS (AGES 2 AND 6 MONTHS) BECAUSE TOYOTA SAW NO NEED TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. *TR
TOYOTA COROLLA CE 2007. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. CRUISING ON FREEWAY AT SPEED LIMIT WHEN ENGINE SHIFTS INTO A STALL. CANNOT ACCELERATE AND MUST PULL OVER. SHUT DOWN CAR AND RESTART, WORKS FINE BUT ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON. CALLS DEALER, THEY SAY A TSB WAS RELEASED CONCERNING A FAULTY ENGINE CONTROL UNIT IN SOME 2007 COROLLAS. TSB WAS RELEASED IN JULY 2009. I WAS NEVER INFORMED OF POTENTIAL PROBLEM UNTIL I CALLED SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND DESCRIBED EVENT. SCHEDULED FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR IN TWO DAYS, DEALER SAYS IF IT FALLS UNDER TSB THE ECU WILL BE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT BEGAN TO DRIVE BETWEEN 5 AND 8 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE DROPPED TO AN IDLE POSITION WHICH CAUSED HIM TO DRIVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE ENGINE CONTROL UNIT WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT NO COST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 24,000.
I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA I BOUGHT NEW. WITH 17,000+ MILES ON IT THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE FAILED. THIS EVENT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON A HEAVILY TRAVELED ROAD AT 45 MPH. THE CAR'S SPEED IMMEDIATELY DROPPED TO 15 MPH. I AVOIDED ACCIDENT AND INJURY, BUT WAS HORRIFIED AT THE THOUGHT I COULD HAVE BEEN ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE NEXT DAY I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. I FOUND IT ODD THAT THE SERVICE WRITER DIDN'T EVEN BLINK ABOUT THIS, AND THAT A NEW ENGINE CONTROL MODULE WAS READILY AVAILABLE. THE EXPERIENCE MADE ME THINK THIS MUST BE A COMMON OCCURRENCE. *TW
MY 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA DIED WHILE PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT, I RESTARTED IT AND WHEN I SHIFTED IT BACK INTO GEAR IT MADE A HARD CLUNK AND WOULD NOT GET OVER APPROXIMATELY 25 MILES PER HOUR. I GOT THE CARE HOME AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. AFTER READING THE OWNERS MANUAL IT EXPLAINED THAT IT COULD HAVE BEEN THE GAS CAP POSSIBLY. REMOVED AND REINSTALLED IT THE CAR SEEMED TO RUN FINE, THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. THE NEXT DAY I WAS DRIVING AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED, THE CAR HAVE NOW DONE THIS SEVERAL TIME. I DID READ ON THE INTERNET THAT I'M NOT THE ONLY PERSON HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND SOME PEOPLE WERE TOLD IT WAS BECAUSE OF IMPROPER MAINTENANCE. I NOT THAT NOT TO BE TRUE. *TR
