FOR THE PAST YEAR SINCE I'VE HAD THE VEHICLE THE CAR ACCELERATES INSTEAD OF SLOW DOWN IF I HIT A BUMP OR BEFORE I STEP ON THE BREAK IT SPEED UP AND SLIPS INSTEAD OF SLOW DOWN.
WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT APPROX. 50 MILES PER HOUR PRIUS LOST POWER AND APPEARED TO BE IN NEUTRAL. DID NOT LOSE HEADLIGHTS. I PULLED OVER AND SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED WITHOUT INCIDENT BUY AM FEARFUL OF IT HAPPENING AGAIN IN TRAFFIC. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 3 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY AND SURGED FORWARD. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A ROCKED LANDSCAPING. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. I HAVE A TOYOTA PRIUS AND IT IS USED AS A TAXI IN SAN FRANCISCO. I HAD NOTICED A FEW TIMES THAT THE ENGINE REVS UP WHILE I WAS AT STOP AND THE BATTERY WAS FULLY CHARGED. IT WAS LIKE THE ENGINE PULSE. IDLE TO HIGH REV AND IDLE AGAIN FOR A FEW TIMES AND THAT HAPPENED FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS WHILE ON THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO ACCELERATE BY ITSELF AT THE FIRST WEEK OF NOV 2013 AND HAPPEN AGAIN ON HIGHWAY 101 SOUTH IN MILL VALLEY CA AROUND 8 PM. I HAVE CALLED CITY TOYOTA AND EXPLAINED ABOUT IT BUT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT JUST TOLD ME TO GET APPOINTMENT TO CHECK IT UP. AS I ASSUME MYSELF AS WELL EXPERIENCED DRIVER WITH 25 YEARS OF DRIVING MULTI TYPE OF VEHICLES, IT IS NOT DRIVER ERROR NOR THE PEDAL NOR THE FLOOR MATS. IT IS MECHANICAL OR ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE BRAKES FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A WALL. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL AS A PRECAUTION, BUT WAS NOT INJURED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THE BRAKES FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR BUMPER OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A CONCUSSION, WHIP LASH, AND INJURIES TO THE NECK AND BACK. THE DRIVER OF THE SECOND VEHICLE SUSTAINED WHIP LASH. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A BODY SHOP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO THE GATE OF THE GARAGE. THE CONTACT TURNED THE IGNITION ON AND OFF AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED A SECOND TIME AND THE BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE STOPPED AFTER THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED A CASE MANAGER WOULD BE ASSIGNED TO THE CASE AND RETURN THE CONTACT'S CALL WITHIN 24 HOURS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING LESS THAN 20 MPH WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO PARK THE VEHICLE AND IT UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED UPON ENGAGING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP AND CRASHED INTO A CEMENT GARAGE WALL. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE FRAME AND FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WERE SEVERELY DAMAGED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE FROM THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR BODY DAMAGE AND TO BE REPAIRED. THE CAUSE OF FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THERE WAS A PRIOR RECALL REPAIR PERFORMED THAT WAS RELATED TO THE DEFECT UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL: ACCELERATOR PEDAL). THE VEHICLE WAS THEN SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE RAPIDLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS THEN CONTACTED WHO REFERRED HIM BACK TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. MY 2008 PRIUS HAS BEEN ACCELERATING FORWARD AFTER I GO OVER AMY BUMPS IN THE ROAD. IT HAS ALMOST CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS. I ASKED MY SEALSKIN ABOUT IT AND THEY SAID MY PRIUS WAS OPERATING NORMALLY. MY HUSBAND SAYS THIS IS INCORRECT AND IT HAS HAPPENED TO HIM TOO. I DRIVE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND I AM SCARED THIS WILL END IN AM ACCIDENT OR SOMEONE GETTING HURT. *TR

A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND TWO PASSENGERS WERE REPORTED INJURED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO TOOK A COMPLAINT AND STATED THAT SOMEONE WOULD CONTACT HER LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.

ON A SEPARATE OCCASION WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH WITH THE BRAKES ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT DRIVER INTENT. IN ADDITION, WHILE TRAVELING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE UNINTENTIONALLY ACCELERATED WHILE DRIVING OVER A ROAD BUMP IN THE ROAD AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR FACILITY AFTER THE CRASH OCCURRED. THERE WERE TWO INJURIES. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE BUT WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE OR LOCATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
2008 TOYOTA PRIUS. CONSUMER STATES UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. *TGW THE CONSUMERS WIFE WAS DRIVING WHEN SHE FELT THE VEHICLE SPEED UP AND PULL TO THE RIGHT. SHE ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT TO COMPENSATE, BUT THE NEXT THING SHE KNEW, SHE WAS HANGING FROM THE SEAT BELT UPSIDE DOWN. THE CONSUMER HIT A CONCRETE MAILBOX AND ROLLED OVER. THE CONSUMERS WIFE SUFFERED INJURIES.*JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH INTO A PARKING SPACE AND SLOWLY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A SHOPPING CART. THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED, CRASHING INTO ANOTHER SHOPPING CART AND THEN INTO A BRICK WALL. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED MODERATE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END BUMPER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY HIS INSURANCE COMPANY. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY THE DEALER. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND FOUND NO FAULT IN THE THROTTLE SYSTEM. A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THE COMPUTER CODE INDICATED THAT THE DRIVER WAS "DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDALS SIMULTANEOUSLY." THE CONTACT VERIFIED THAT NEITHER HE NOR THE OTHER DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE HAD EVER OPERATED THE VEHICLE IN SUCH A MANNER. THERE WERE NO ADDITIONAL REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP. THE FAILURE WAS MILEAGE 3,222. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERN OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED.

THE BRAKES WOULD NOT ENGAGE DURING THE ACCELERATION CAUSING THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO A NEARBY POLE. NO ONE WAS INJURED DURING THE CRASH. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED FOR THE INCIDENT. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH ON WET ROAD CONDITIONS PROCEEDING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN WHEN THE ENGINE MADE A LOUD SURGING SOUND FOLLOWED BY AN UNINTENDED BRIEF ACCELERATION, HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE NORMAL OPERATION. RAPID ACCELERATION WHILE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED. WHILE CRUISE CONTROL WAS SET FOR 68 MPH, I FOUND IT NECESSARY TO PASS A SEMI. WHILE THE CRUISE WAS ENGAGED THE ACCELERATOR WAS DEPRESSED AND I WAS ABLE TO PASS THE TRUCK NOT HAVING TO GO ANY FASTER THAN 73. SHORTLY AFTER, I BECAME AWARE THAT THE CAR WAS CONTINUING TO ACCELERATE AND I WAS UNABLE DISENGAGE CRUISE CONTROL BY BRAKING ONCE NORMALLY AND BRAKING ONCE HARD....THE ACCELERATION CONTINUED. SPEEDS WERE IN EXCESS OF 93+ AND I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO STOP THE ACCELERATION BY DISENGAGING THE CRUISE AT THE SWITCH. BRAKING SHOULD ALWAYS DISENGAGE CRUISE AND SHOULD HAVE SLOWED THE VEHICLE. IT DID NEITHER. FORTUNATELY I WAS ON AN OPEN FREEWAY....WITH ONLY WEATHER ISSUES....BUT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY SERIOUS OR FATAL SHOULD TRAFFIC HAD BEEN STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME. *TR
2008 TOYOTA PRIUS. CONSUMER STATES UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. *TGW WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, THE CONSUMER LET UP OFF THE ACCELERATOR, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SPEED UP. THE CONSUMER RELEASED HER FOOT COMPLETELY FROM THE ACCELERATOR ALL TOGETHER, BUT THE VEHICLE INCREASED IN SPEED. THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED, BUT IT DID NOT SLOW IT DOWN AT FIRST. FINALLY, THE BRAKE BEGAN TO WORK. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE SAFELY TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. UNPROMPTED ACCELERATION - CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN ACCORD. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES AND LASTS FOR ONLY A SECOND OR SO. THIS COMPLAINT IS PROMPTED BY MORE SEVERE REPORTS WHICH ARE VERY CONCERNING TO US IN REGARD TO POTENTIAL HAZARD. *TR
APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS AGO I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA RE: RECALL DUE TO POTENTIAL FOR CAR MAT CAUSING ACCELERATOR TO STICK OPEN. LETTER INDICATED THEY WOULD NOTIFY ME "AS SOON AS A CAMPAIGN REMEDY IS AVAILABLE FOR MY VEHICLE." LETTER FURTHER INDICATED THAT I COULD SUBMIT A COMPLAINT TO YOU "IF YOU BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA HAS FAILED OR IS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A REMEDY WITHOUT CHARGE OR WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME".. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A NOTICE ABOUT ANY "REMEDY CAMPAIGN". THIS IS NOT TIMELY AND I DO NOT BELIEVE THEY ARE ABLE TO PROVIDE A REMEDY. AS YOU ARE AWARE, SINCE THAT TIME, THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS REPORTS OF "SUDDEN UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION" IN THESE VEHICLES. IT IS ALSO APPARENT THAT THE FLOOR MAT HAS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH MOST, IF NOT ALL OF THEM. IT DOES NOT APPEAR THAT TOYOTA HAS ANY INTENTION OF NOTIFYING ME OF ANY "REMEDY" AS THEY ARE NOT ACKNOWLEDGING ANY OTHER ACCELERATION PROBLEM. EVERY TIME MY WIFE OR I DRIVE THIS VEHICLE WE ARE RISKING THIS HAPPENING TO OUR VEHICLE AND TOYOTA IS NOT DOING ANYTHING IN A TIMELY MANNER. *TR

2008 TOYOTA PRIUS. CONSUMER STATES UNINTENDED ACCELERATION *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED AS SHE WAS COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP WITH HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. WITHIN ABOUT 1/10TH OF A SECOND, IT WAS MOVING AT A VERY HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THE VEHICLE DID NOT INCREASE SPEED GRADUALLY, BUT WAS ALMOST INSTANTLY MOVING VERY FAST. THE CONSUMER STATED SHE COULD HEAR THE ENGINE REVVING QUITE LOUDLY. THE VEHICLE CROSSED A GRASSY AREA ABOUT 20 FEET WIDE AND THEN HIT A POST WHICH WAS ABOUT 6 INCHES IN DIAMETER. IT DEMOLISHED THE POST AND THEN PLOWED THROUGH SOME SMALL TREES AND LARGE SHRUBBERY. THE VEHICLE FINALLY CAME TO REST ABOUT 10 INCHES FROM THE CORNER OF A HOUSE. THE CONSUMER STATED PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT, SHE RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER IN THE MAIL, AND COMPLIED WITH THE RECALL. HOWEVER, SINCE THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED, SHE NOTICED THAT WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ACTIVATED AND GOING UP A RISE IN THE ROAD, THE ENGINE WOULD START TO AUDIBLY REV AND THE VEHICLE WOULD GAIN 2, 3,4 MPH OVER WHAT WAS SET FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL SPEED. IT ALSO GAINED A FEW MILES WHEN ON A DOWNWARD SLOPE. AS SOON AS THE ROAD LEVELED OUT, IT WOULD GO BACK TO WHAT THE CRUISE CONTROL SETTING WAS. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY DISMISSED IT AS NOT IMPORTANT AND SAID IT WAS A NORMAL OCCURRENCE AND IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RECALL WORK THEY PERFORMED. *JB
