2023 Toyota RAV4 UNKNOWN OR OTHER

We discovered severe mold contamination and water intrusion in our 2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. My wife, our [XXX] child, and I have been experiencing dizziness and nausea for months whenever we were inside the vehicle, but we did not know the cause until the dealer (DLL) showed us extensive mold throughout the cabin and standing water trapped inside the vehicle. The dealer confirmed that this was not normal wear and tear. The mold has spread into the floors, interior panels, and even the steering components. This is a serious health hazard. After doing research, we found many other RAV4 Hybrid owners reporting similar water leaks and mold growth issues. This raises the concern of a potential design or sealing defect in this model. This vehicle is unsafe to drive, especially with a young child. We are requesting a full safety investigation into the water intrusion, sealing integrity, and air quality risks associated with this model. When driving, I occasionally hear a sloshing sound. After inspecting the vehicle, I realized it was coming from the rear passenger door of the RAV4. After putting down large bowls to catch the water, I pulled up on the rubber weather strip at the bottom of the rear passenger door and water gushed out. I collected over 13 cups of water out of the door. This is not an isolated incident, as it has happened before. At first I thought it was debris/a fluke that caused this water to accumulate, but after reading forums, there are multiple people out there running into the same issue. It's only ever been the rear passenger door too; none of the other doors are holding water.

I was driving yesterday when we suddenly heard a pop on the roof. We pulled over and noticed that the sunroof was broken, with the glass sticking outward, as if something from the inside had exploded outward. The dealership would not take ownership of the damage, therefore i had to use my insurance. upon inspection I was told that it was pressure from inside the vehicle that caused it to explode and that they have seen it before in Toyota RAV 4 models

Rear passenger door drain is not clearing water and is building up in door frame. Have to pull back bottom of door trim to get the water to clear

The issue is with the moonroof, which is part of the panoramic roof on the 2023 RAV4 hybrid driving down the freeway at highway speeds. The moon roof shattered. It sounded like a shotgun and it seemed to have broken and upward direction versus downward. There were no rocks from cars noticed in any vehicles in front of me to which could have caused this issue. If you’re looking at the photos all around the edge, there seems to be a seam on all four sides of the Glass giving away along with the hole protruding up.

I drive through heavy rain for about 20 miles and I got to my mom’s house, put the car in park for about 5 minutes, when I get back in the car the car shut off when I put it in drive and was smoking. Now it will not crank up.

As I was driving on the highway, the glass of my sunroof imploded. There were no other cars around nor was there any people. It sounded as if something popped above my head. I researched this incident and apparently there are other RAV4 owners that had the same problem.

While making a slow right turn into a carport (1-2 mph), the vehicle suddenly accelerated on its own and crashed into the carport wall, continued to full throttle causing the tire to skip along side of the wall. The vehicle is currently not being used as we continue with the process with our insurance provider and begin to initiate contact with the car dealer. There were no warning lights or indications of a malfunctioning vehicle prior to that point. Initial online research provided at least 10 other reports that the exact same occurence happended to other 2023 RAV owners causing vehcile and property damage. We are fearful to use this vehicle now and would like to submit a safety report to prevent any similar instances in the future that may result in serious injury or death. NOTE: We also have video footage of the incident from our carport security camera, if you need that for further review.

While driving early in the morning on 95 without other traffic nearby, my moonroof exploded. There was no crack of a rock, only a very loud pop. The glass broke outward. I pushed it in to vacuum the pieces out in the picture attached

While driving at about 30 mph on [XXX] on Sunday, [XXX] at [XXX] the moonroof suddenly exploded. It sounded like a gunshot and startled me. I was not going under an overpass, there were no people nearby who would have thrown anything at the car, and I was not following another vehicle. I believe the glass shattered as result of mechanical defect. The moonroof was closed at the time so I was not hit with flying glass, but the situation could have been quite dangerous had the roof been open. I also think the loud sound of glass exploding could cause other motorists to jerk the wheel in shock at the loud noise. Naturally, there were shards of glass flying off my vehicle afterward, which creates something of a road hazard for anyone following behind. I have had the moonroof inspected by the Toyota dealer. They advise that glass is not covered under warranty, which is nonsense because at the least it violates the warranty of fitness for a particular purpose. But, it is hard to prove a manufacturer's defect so I will be submitting a claim through insurance. In my opnion, Toyota should cover the repair costs as I did nothing wrong and was not hit by a foreign object. Sunroof glass blew out. Driving down road, no traffic, sounded like a shotgun blast. Pulled over and saw the sunroof had a hole and the rest was crystallized. Had the interior cover been pulled back we would have been showered with broken glass.

Leaving my house and around 20 ft away the soon roof burst. Nothing hit it, i live in a rural area, asphalt road. Now toyota dealer is saying that something hit the soon roof. I checked online and there are several incidents with the same model.

The navigation system very frequently loses your location and begins jumping all over the place searching. I've been complaining to Toyota about since the day after I purchased my 2023 RAV4 Hybrid and at first they blamed my iPhone, then claimed they knew nothing about the problem, only after months of complaining do they now acknowledge that there is an issue and they are working to fix it. In addition to the navigation issues with the new head unit, it also no longer pauses or mutes music when reading text messages or dictating text messages. I previously had a 2019 RAV4 Hybrid and didn't have either of these issues. Now I am no longer able to handsfree listen to or respond to text messages and the navigation system is so faulty it is virtually useless.

I was coasting into a parking space (at 6.8 mph) and as I attempted to park, the car suddenly accelerated and went up and over the concrete rectangle park stop and smashed into a brick building (12.4 mph) and went back over the park stop before the engine in the vehicle finally died. During the acceleration, I was trying to brake the car, but the car wouldn’t stop. I was yelling to my husband that the car wouldn’t stop. The driver airbags deployed as well as the knee air bag. The passenger airbags did not deploy as there was not a passenger in the front seat. The car had 4258 miles and was totaled. My husband and I both sustained injuries. According to the Toyota app, the vehicle had a “0” rating for fast acceleration and a “1” rating for harsh braking during this particular trip. I contacted Toyota and an investigation was conducted using Bosch Crash Data Retrieval Tool 23.2.1. The data shows a 5 second timeframe with .50 second intervals. The vehicle speed at the 5 second mark was 6.8mph with 0% accelerator pedal. At 2 seconds, the speed was 5.0mph with 8.5% accelerator pedal. And, at the crash point the vehicle speed was 12.4mph with 100% accelerator pedal. Toyota product liability contacted me with their report stating that there was no brake pedal application prior to the impact and that pressure was applied to the accelerator pedal at wide open throttle seconds prior to the impact, and they found no obstructions or interference with the operation of the accelerator pedal. Further, they found the brakes to be operational However, the vehicle could not be test test driven as it would not turn on. In summary they did not find any evidence of an issue or defect with the vehicle based on inspection and electronic data.

When the AC is turned on, the AC is not blowing cold AC air. Have turned on the AC to the lowest temperature setting, turned the fan to high, activated the circulation button and it’s only blowing room temperature/warm air. Have tried different combinations of the settings and the AC quality is still only blowing room temperature/warm air. Have driven car to hotter temperature areas and the AC, at this point, is blowing warm/hot air.

When using an Apple iPhone 12 connected to the vehicle's head unit with CarPlay, and when using any navigation application (Apple Maps, Waze, Google Maps), the car's GPS position on the map randomly becomes extremely inaccurate. The car's map cursor suddenly jumps to a different road than the one the vehicle is on, heads in the wrong direction, or circles wildly. If using the GPS application for directions, the directions suddenly become incorrect. The issue never occurs when the iPhone is not connected to the vehicle's CarPlay display. This is a safety issue because it is extremely distracting or dangerous if the driver is using the GPS application for navigation and is directed to the wrong road or becomes lost in an unknown area due to failure of the navigation application on CarPlay.

The Media system is used prevalently to navigate in cities like Dallas and can be considered a crucial part of the car. However in all Toyotas this is a defective part and often disconnects while driving making it difficult and often unsafe due to the sudden interruptions especially when you are traveling at on highways or city streets.

Driver side and passenger side mirror, as well as rearview mirror vibrate. Driver, side mirror, and rearview mirror are the worst with the passenger rear view mirror better than the other two. Brought into Toyota of Dothan couple of times, and they say it’s normal. This is not normal. It is a safety hazard. It started on day one that I own the car, which was July 3, 2023. There is known problems with previous models, as well as with the Lexus NX and RX models, which is based off of Toyota. This needs to be addressed and fixed. There were previous announcements made for 2019 year I believe of the RAV4, but there still is a problem with the 2023 models.

Panoramic sunroof. First one is fine, back one exploded. All around the edges is a very distinct crack in a connected line. There was minimal traffic, and I was the only other vehicle on the interstate with a good 4 car length between me and the next car which was 2 lanes over. I didn’t see or hear anything other than the “gunshot” sounding explosion. No wind or hail or anything, skies were clear, I was going about 60 on the interstate. It freaked me out. Luckily, I did not swerve or change my driving (slam on brakes etc), but with another person driving, this could have caused an accident. Toyota claims it was a piece of debris or rock that hit it so they say it is not under warranty. $14k repair price which is almost a quarter of what I am paying for the vehicle. Waiting to see if my insurance covers it.
