FAILURE OF A DEFECTIVE RUBBER OIL COOLER HOSE OCCURRED AT APP. 5:30 PM ON 2/11/2013 WHILE THE SIENNA WAS BEING DRIVEN ON A CITY STREET. THE VEHICLE RAPIDLY LOST MOST OF ITS OIL, AND INCURRED SIGNIFICANT AND VERY COSTLY ENGINE DAMAGE (RESULTING IN THE NEED FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE ENGINE SHORT-BLOCK, PLUS OTHER COLLATERAL ENGINE REPAIRS THAT THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND TOYOTA ENGINEERING EVENTUALLY DETERMINED NECESSARY). SEE TOYOTA TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN T-SB-0201, DATED 12/21/2011. THE OIL "SEEPAGE" TERM USED BY TOYOTA IN THIS TSB IS A COMPLETE MISNOMER, AS THE OIL LOSS WAS RAPID AND RESULTED IN OIL SPRAYING PROFUSELY UNDER THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. TOYOTA HAD NOT PREVIOUSLY COMMUNICATED ANY INFORMATION TO ITS UNSUSPECTING CUSTOMER REGARDING THIS SPECIFIC DEFECTIVE PART. ON 3/3/2011, THE CUSTOMER DISCOVERED THROUGH HIS OWN PERSONAL RESEARCH THE SCOPE AND MAGNITUDE OF TOYOTA'S PERVASIVE FAILURE HISTORY WITH A VERY SIMILAR DEFECTIVE RUBBER OIL SUPPLY HOSE. THE DEFECTIVE RUBBER OIL SUPPLY HOSE IS THE SUBJECT OF A CURRENT MULTI-PART LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN (LSC) PRIOR LAUNCHED BY TOYOTA, HOWEVER TOYOTA IS INCREDIBLY CLAIMING TO THE CUSTOMER THAT THIS LSC CAMPAIGN (WHICH IS SET TO EXPIRE ON 3/31/2013) DOES NOT COVER THE DEFECTIVE OIL COOLER HOSE. IN THE CUSTOMER'S OPINION, TOYOTA HAS DEMONSTRATED GROSS NEGLIGENCE IN NOT INCLUDING COVERAGE OF BOTH DEFECTIVE RUBBER OIL HOSE PARTS UNDER THE CURRENT LSC (OR, NOT LAUNCHING A SEPARATE LSC ADDRESSING THE DEFECTIVE OIL COOLER HOSE). THIS DEFECTIVE RUBBER OIL COOLER HOSE COULD BE DESCRIBED AS A TICKING TIME BOMB FOR OWNERS OF AFFECTED TOYOTA HIGHLANDERS (2008 - 2011), HIGHLANDER HVS (2011), SIENNAS (2007 - 2011), AND VENZAS (2009 - 2011). THE CUSTOMER IS CONTINUING INTERFACE WITH TOYOTA, FOR TOYOTA TO ACCEPT FULL FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR ALL CUSTOMER COSTS INCURRED IN THIS MATTER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE BAFFLE ON THE VALVE COVER WAS FRACTURED, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. AS A RESULT, THE ENGINE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND RETURNED TO THE DEALER AS A TRADE-IN. DRIVING MY KIDS TO SCHOOL, WHICH IS 3 MILES AWAY, AND I SUDDENLY SMELL SMOKE. WHEN I WAS COMING BACK, I SUDDENLY HERE A NOISE. ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE VEHICLE STOPS. I HAD TO HIRE A WRECKER TO BRING IT TO MY HOUSE. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS AT MY HOUSE, I TRIED TO FIND WHAT THE CAUSE OF THE NOISE WAS AND WHEN LOOKING UNDER THE VEHICLE, I NOTICE THE OIL HAD COME OUT FROM SOMEWHERE. I OPENED THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE TO CHECK FOR THE OIL AND IT WAS EMPTY. ABOUT A MONTH AGO, THE DEALER MADE THE OIL SERVICE. I WONDER WHAT HAPPENED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HAVING THE OIL CHANGED, THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE VVTI OIL PRESSURE LINE WAS LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THE OIL PRESSURE LINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
WAS DRIVING VEHICLE ON FREEWAY AT 70 MPH WHEN ENGINE NOISE STARTED. I SOON NOTICED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT WAS ON AND STOPPED THE VAN. ADDED MORE OIL AND RESTARTED THE VAN. I THEN INVESTIGATED AND FOUND OIL LEAKING OUT OF A RUPTURED RUBBER OIL COOLER HOSE. I LOST NEARLY 6 QUARTS OF OIL THAT HAD BEEN PUMPED OUT ON THE HIGHWAY. (POSSIBLY CAUSING A TRAFFIC HAZARD TO OTHER DRIVERS) TOWED VAN TO DEALER AND HAD TO PAY OVER $250.00 FOR REPAIRS TO THE OIL COOLER LINES. NEW LINES ARE NOW ALL METAL LINES. DEALER REFUSES TO ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR POSSIBLE ENGINE DAMAGE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT NOTICED THERE WAS A TRAIL OF OIL BEHIND THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE OIL SENSOR TUBE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE WAS REPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
THE OIL COOLING LINE SUDDENLY RUPUTURED WITH NO PREVIOUS WARNINGS OR LEAKS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR UNRELATED REPAIRS WHEN THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE MOTOR MOUNT BRACKET WAS FRACTURED AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY @ 85MPH WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. PROMPTLY, I PULLED THE TOYOTA MANUAL WHICH SAID COULD BE FAULTY GAS CAP AND MAY GO OFF WITH CONSECUTIVE DRIVES ONCE FIXED OR IF IT STAYS ON AFTER TO GO TO DEALER. THE CAR WAS RUNNING FINE SO I HEADED TO MY EXIT TO PULL OVER. SHORTLY, THEREAFTER A HORRIBLE DIESEL ENGINE GRINDING NOISE. I HAD JUST HAD MY TIRES ROTATED (REPLACED JUST ONE MONTH PRIOR) THAT WEEKEND AND THE OIL CHANGED THE WEEKEND BEFORE. AS I WAS ABOUT TO PULL OVER THE ENGINE OIL LIGHT FLASHED. WHEN I PULLED OVER I IMMEDIATELY CHECKED THE OIL STICK DRY WE HAD BEEN GIVEN THE RUN AROUND ABOUT THE PART BY MOSSY NISSAN THAT THE PART WAS ON BACKORDER AND WAS PART OF THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TOWED TO TOYOTA OF POWAY AND FOR $500+ TO INSPECT AND REPLACE THIS HOSE(NOT PART OF RECALL) WANTED ANOTHER $3000 TO TEAR DOWN THE ENGINE AND THE ADDL CHARGES TO FIX I HAVE RELIGIOUSLY HAD MY OIL CHANGED AND HAVE ALWAYS HAD MY TOYOTA CERTIFIED MECHANIC WORK ON MY CAR. I CONTACTED TOYOTA CONSUMER SERVICE FOR ASSISTANCE IN FIXING THE PROBLEMS THEY INDICATED THEY WOULD NOT HELP SINCE THE HOSES WERE NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THE HOSES ARE 2 RUBBER HOSES THAT HAVE CLAMPS LEADING TO A TRIANGULAR METAL PIECE. THE HOLE WAS NOT IN A LOCATION THAT SOMETHING COULD HAVE PIERCED ACCORDING TO MY INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO TRIED TO GET THE PART FROM THE FIRST DEALER....WHICH LEADS TO THE FACT THAT THESE ARE FAULTY HOSES THAT DETERIORATED. TOYOTA HAS OFFERED A GOODWILL PAYMENT OF $750 TOWARDS A NEW OR USED CERTIFIED TOYOTA CAR. BUT THAT IS AT A 20% INTEREST RATE. IT IS MY HOPE THAT OTHERS WILL SEE THIS AND GET THIS FIXED BEFORE THEY END UP LIKE ME SINGLE MOM OF 4 WITHOUT A CAR WORKING 5 DAYS A WEEK 150 MILES FROM MY BABIES AND CAN'T EVEN GO HOME TO SEE THEM TILL THE WEEKEND. 2007 TOYOTA SIENNA ENGINE STOPPED, AND FAILED TO START WITHIN ABOUT 15 MINUTES AFTERWARDS AT HOT WEATHER ABOVE 95F WITH AIR CONDITIONING ON. *KB
ON MARCH 12. 2010 I WAS TRAVELING TO ARCHES NATIONAL PARK WITH FOUR OTHER PASSENGERS. ON THE WAY, WE DECIDED TO STOP BY BRYCE CANYON UTAH. I WAS DRIVING A 2007 TOYOTA SIENNA THROUGH 26 S. MAIN STREET BRYCE CANYON CITY. BECAUSE OF BAD WEATHER CONDITION. I HAD PUT THE CAR IN GEAR 3 AND WAS DRIVING 5 MILES PER HOUR. SUDDENLY I HEARD THE ENGINE ACCELERATE AND FELT THE CAR PUSH FORWARD. I LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND CAUTIOUSLY PRESSED THE BRAKES AS HARD AS I COULD, BUT BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND AND THE CAR CONTINUED FORWARD ABOUT 150 FEET. SOMEHOW I MANAGED TO TURN RIGHT ON CENTER STREET AND BUMPED ONTO THE CURB TO BE ABLE TO STOP THE CAR. AFTER THE CAR CAME TO FULL STOP, THE ENGINE SOUNDED NORMAL. BECAUSE OF THIS INCIDENT, WE CHANGED OUR SCHEDULE AND RETURNED HOME. *CN
I BOUGHT A SECOND HAND 2007 TOYOTA SIENNA LE IN JUNE 2009. THE VEHICLE HAD ABOUT 49,000 KM. I NOTICED THAT VEHICLE HAD PRODUCED UNUSUAL NOISE WHEN STARTED AT COLD. IT SOUNDED LIKE DIESEL ENGINE. I TOOK A VEHICLE IN TO A TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. APPARENTLY, THERE IS A TSB ISSUED ON THIS PROBLEM. ALTHOUGH I APPRECIATE THE DEALER'S HONEST EFFORT IN CORRECTING THE PROBLEM, THE NOISE IS STILL THERE WHEN ENGINE IS STARTED AT COLD. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA SIENNA. WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD AND STARTED I GET A NOISE THAT SOUNDS LIKE A LIFTER PROBLEM. ALTHOUGH THE WEATHER WILL EFFECT THE INTENSITY AND DURATION OF THIS NOISE IT IS ALWAYS THERE. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP I TOOK IT TO HAD A FACTORY ENGINEER COME OUT AND HE HEARD THE NOISE AND SAID IT WAS NORMAL AND ATTRIBUTED IT TO "PISTON-SLAP". AT THIS TIME THEY ARE TELLING ME THERE IS NO REPAIR FOR THIS CONDITION. THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS A NOISE BUT THEY SAY THEY CAN DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. THIS NOISE DEVELOPED APPROXIMATELY AROUND 20,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. OTHER SIENNA'S THAT ACQUAINTANCES OWN DO NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. SOME MORNINGS WHEN IT IS COLD OUT THE NOISE IS SO LOUD IT TURNS HEADS AS I DRIVE DOWN THE STREET. EVIDENTLY THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT BUT REFUSES TO FIX. *TR
CATALYTIC CONVERTER EMITS STRONG SULFUR ODOR INTO PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THE SMELL MADE MY FAMILY SICK WITH HEADACHES. TOYOTA REPS TOLD ME TO NOTE WHAT GAS STATION I GO TO AND IT MAY TAKE MULTIPLE VISITS TO FIX SINCE NO ONE ELSE REPORTED SIMILAR PROBLEMS. *TR

MY BRAND NEW TOYOTA SIENNA HAS PRODUCED HUM NOISE AT AROUND 2500 RPM AS SOON AS I PICKUP THE NEW VAN. I HAVE THE DEALER AND THE REGIONAL REPS LOOKED AT AND THEY FOUND THE NOISE AND THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT ALL THE TOYOTA WITH THE SAME ENGINE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THEY WILL NOT FIX IT.
