The contact owns a 2014 Audi Q7. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, there was an abnormally strong fuel odor coming from the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with fuel filter flange failure. The contact was informed that the fuel filter flange needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V298000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the recall repair had been performed in December 2017. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered under warranty. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000.

The contact was advised by the manufacturer, that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V298000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The contact who is an independent mechanic discovered he could access the fuel tank through the driver’s side rear seat. In addition, the contact noticed the fuel tank had been temporarily repaired with a fuel pump flange to prevent the fuel tank from being cracked over time. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 153,000.
