THE PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE. THIS IS PART OF THE "SEAT MAT", WHICH IS UNDER RECALL. BMW SENT AN INITIAL NOTICE OF RECALL IN SEPTEMBER OF 2017. AS OF APRIL 20, 2018 THE PARTS ARE STILL NOT AVAILABLE TO PERFORM THIS RECALL. OVER 7 MONTHS! NO ONE AT THE DEALER OR BMW USA CAN GIVE US A STRAIGHT ANSWER AS TO WHEN THE PARTS WILL BECOME AVAILABLE. THE Q AND A PART OF THE NOTICE INDICATES NO ONE SHOULD SIT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT UNTIL THIS IS FIXED! WHY IS BMW BEING ALLOWED TO CONTINUE TO DELAY FIXING THIS SAFETY DEFECT? I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THE NHTSA IS DOING TO MAKE BMW REPAIR THIS IN A TIMELY MANNER!

IT HAS NOW BEEN A YEAR AND A HALF SINCE THE RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED AND EVERY TIME I CALL BMW TO ASK FOR DETAILS THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. IF BMW CANT PROVIDE REPLACEMENT AIRBAGS FAST ENOUGH TO FIX THEIR CARS THAT ARE DEFECTIVE, THEN THEY NEED TO PROVIDE LOANER CARS OR A BUY-BACK PROGRAM. HAVING TO WAIT 18 MONTHS WITHOUT EVEN GETTING AN UPDATE AS TO WHEN MY CAR WILL EVEN BE FIXED IS RIDICULOUS.

MEANWHILE, WE ARE DRIVING A TIME BOMB THAT IS MORE LIKELY TO INJURE US THAN OFFER PROTECT FROM IMPACTS.WHEN IS NHTSA GOING TO FORCE BMW TO MAKE REPAIRS. MY CAR IS 9 YEARS OLD NOW AND I HAVE BEEN DRIVING WITHOUT PROTECTION FOR THAT LONG AND THE CAR'S RESALE VALUE IS AFFECTED BY THIS AS WELL.
