WHILE DRIVING ON A ROAD MY TIE ROD BROKE CAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR. IT COMPLETELY TURNED AROUND AND LANDED IN SOME TREES.
COMPLAINT: REAR WHEELS LINKAGE WAS DESIGNED SO THAT THE "CAMBER" CANNOT BE ADJUSTED. THE REAR TIRES WEAR AGRESSFULLY ON THE INBOARD EDGES TO A POINT THAT THEY ARE BALD WHILE THE OUTSIDE, WHICH IS VISIBLE, APPEARS TO BE GOOD. THE REAR TIRES BECOME UNSAFE, WITH A WEAR RATE THAT ONLY LAST ABOUT 15,000 MILES. I AM ON MY 5TH SET OF TIRES WITH THE CAR MILEAGE AT 66,000. GM WAS AWARE OF THIS CONDITION IN 2008, BUT THEY ISSUED A TSB (08032A) TO CORRECT ONLY "POLICE CARS" AND DID NOT REPAIR OR LET OTHER PRIVATE CUSTOMERS KNOW ABOUT THIS. MY CAR SERIAL NUMBER IS LISTED UNDER THE ONES ON THE TSB. THIS CONDITION ALSO CREATES A PROBLEM WHEN OPERATING THE CAR IN WET AND SLIPPERY ROADS, SINCE THE REAR TRACKING IS NOT THE SAME AS THE FRONT TIRES. THE CAR TENDS TO WHIP FROM SIDE TO SIDE, AN OPERATORS CAN LOOSE CONTROL. THE PARTS USED BY GM ARE THE SAME AS ON POLICE VEHICLES AS PERSONAL CARS. THEY CLAIMED A PROBLEM, BUT FOR SOME REASON DENY ANY ISSUES ON A PERSONAL CAR! GM DEALERS REFUSE TO EVEN SPLIT THE COST, AND GM WILL NOT CORRECT MY ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE VEERED OFF THE ROAD INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY BOTH THE DEALER AND AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEY BOTH CONFIRMED THAT THE REAR AXLE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN ON A STRAIGHT DRY ROAD WHEN IT STARTED TO DRIFT AND GO OUT OF CONTROL CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A TREE. *TR
EXCESSIVE WEAR ON INSIDE EDGES OF REAR TIRES I'M JUST FORTUNATE I CAUGHT THE WEAR EARLY . SO I BROUGHT IT TO MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALER FOR A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT. I WAS TOLD THAT BOTH REAR SPINDLE RODS NEEDED REPLACING TO THE TUNE OF $700.00. THE SERVICE DEPT. TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT GET ENOUGH ADJUSTMENT IN THE CURRENT SPINDLE RODS TO BRING THE ALIGNMENT INTO SPEC. AND THERE IS AN UPDATED PART TO REPLACE THEM. GM HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SINCE 2009 AND IT EFFECTS BOTH 2007 AND 2008 CHEVY IMPALAS. THEY DID A RECALL ON 07 AND 08 POLICE VERSIONS OF THE IMPALA BUT NOT ON THE CIVILIAN VERSION. THE NHTSB NEEDS TO TAKE A HARD LOOK AT THIS DESIGN PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE IS HURT OR KILLED DUE TO A BLOW OUT. *TR
DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH DUE TO ICY/SNOWY CONDITIONS ON HIGHWAY, CAR HAD POOR TRACTION AND REAR END WAS SWAYING, FISH TAILING.. WHEN ON DRY PAVEMENT IF ROAD CONDITIONS ARE ROUGH, BUMPY OR HAS MAN HOLES THE REAR SWAYS WHEN THESE AREAS ARE DRIVEN OVER AT MULTIPLE SPEEDS. *TR
EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR, DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE INSIDE WEARS ABNORMALLY. SUSPECT REAR WHEEL SPINDLE ROD, WHICH WAS RECALLED FOR POLICE MODEL BUT NOT CIVILIAN MODEL FOR REAR WHEEL MISALIGNMENT. DANGER OF WEAR NOT BEING NOTICED SINCE IT IS EXCESSIVE ON THE INSIDE OF TIRE WHICH COULD RESULT IN A TIRE BLOW OUT AND CRASH. *TR
NOV 5, 2007. VEHICLE NEEDED A WHEEL ALIGNMENT AT 14,566 MILES. TIRES HAD ABNORMAL WEAR BECAUSE OF ALIGNMENT. FEB 2008. 4 NEW TIRES AND WHEEL ALIGNMENT AT 29,000 MILES. DEC 2010. 4 NEW TIRES AND WHEEL ALIGNMENT AT 48,900 MILES. AUG 2011. 4 NEW TIRES AND WHEEL ALIGNMENT AT 56,600 MILES. AUG 2012. WHEEL ALIGNMENT AT 65,400 MILES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VEER OUT OF LANE THAT THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING IN WITHOUT INTENT. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOUR TIMES REGARDING THE DEFECT. THE REAR TIRES WERE REPLACED TWICE AND THE REAR BRAKES WERE ALSO REPLACED TWICE. THERE WAS A VOLUNTARY RECALL ISSUED BY THE MANUFACTURER PERTAINING TO THE REAR SPIN ROD ON THE 2007-2008 MODEL YEAR VEHICLES AND THE 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA POLICE CRUISERS. THE CONTACT DID NOT CONFIRM IF THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
DURING THE COURSE OF OWNING THIS IMPALA SINCE IT WAS NEW, IT HAS HAD 12 REPLACEMENT TIRES INSTALLED IN ORDER TO CORRECT A VIBRATION PROBLEM, WHICH IS FELT AT OR AROUND 55 MPH. IT HAS TAKEN APPROXIMATELY 10,000 MILES FOR EACH OF THE TIRES TO WEAR UNEVENLY. EACH TIME A TIRE WAS REPLACED, I WAS GIVEN AN EXPLANATION THAT THE DEFECTIVE TIRE WAS NO LONGER ROUND (EGG SHAPED) AND WOULD NOT PROPERLY BALANCE. A MAJORITY OF THE DEFECTIVE TIRES WERE FROM THE REAR OF THE IMPALA. THE LAST REPLACEMENT TIRES WERE INSTALLED ON 06-28-10 WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD 26,264 MILES ON IT. DURING THE DOZENS OF VISITS TO MULTIPLE CHEVROLET SERVICE DEPTS, NO MECHANICAL SUSPENSION PARTS WERE REPLACED. I'VE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH THE GENERAL MOTORS EXECUTIVE CUSTOMER SERVICE OFFICE (GMECSO) FOR YEARS AND HAVE DEALT WITH MULTIPLE REPRESENTATIVES. THE IMPALA AGAIN HAS A VIBRATION, AND I WOULD LIKE TO GET THE VEHICLE SERVICED. GMECSO INFORMED ME THAT THEY WANTED ME TO TAKE THE IMPALA TO A DIFFERENT CHEVROLET SERVICE DEPARTMENT IF I NEEDED TO GET THE CAR LOOKED AT FOR ISSUES REGARDING THE TIRES. SINCE 02-05-12, I HAVE MADE 5 PHONE CALLS TO THE GMECSO AND HAVE YET TO RECEIVE A CALL BACK. *TR
MASSIVE REAR TIRE PREMATURE WEAR CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE DESIGN AND DEFECTIVE TRI-COILED REAR SPRINGS, TRAILING ARMS, AND SPINDLE RODS. *TR
REAR SUSPENSION IS UNSTABLE, THIRD SET OF GOOD REAR TIRES BEING PUT ON, AGAIN. THE CAR NOW HAS 69K MILES. *TT
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR TIRES ON MY CHEVROLET IMPALA TWICE IN UNDER 20,000 MILES DUE THE REAR SUSPENSION SPINDLES BEING WORN. THE DISCOUNT TIRE REPRESENTATIVES REPORT THAT THEY SEE AT LEAST TWO IMPALAS A WEEK WITH THE SAME. PROBLEM. ONLY REPLACED IN POLICE IMPALAS.. *TR

HAS NOT HAD A RECALL EXCEPT FOR 20,000 POLICE MADE CARS MON. 11-28-11 A GM PERSON FINALLY SAID YOU HAVE WARRANTY FOR 100,000 MILES TAKE CAR BACK TO DEALER AND TELL THEM TO FIX THE VEHICLE THIS CAR HAS NO VALUE ANYMORE DEALERS DON'T ADVERTISE THEM FOR SALE ANYMORE IN MAINE PAPERS, THEY KNOW OF THE PROBLEMS. YOU FOLKS HAVE TO DEMAND THAT G.M. RECALL AND REPAIR EVERY CAR 2007-2008 IMPALAS WITH PROBLEM. ONE SET OF TIRES ON THIS CAR WORE A STRIP 2 INCHES WIDE FROM OUTSIDE EDGES TOWARD CENTER IN 4 MONTHS MY MECHANIC WHO WAS CHANGING THE OIL CALLED ME OUT TO LOOK AT THEM, HE HAD PUT THEM ON THE CAR. THEY WERE DOWN TO CANVAS AND STEEL BELT, MY WIFE DRIVES THIS VEHICLE AND SHE NEVER NOTICED ANYTHING THIS WAS SHEAR CHANCE IN SPOTTING PROBLEM I FEEL THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. A HIGH SPEED BLOWOUT ON INTER STATE, THE ONLY PLACE SHE DRIVES FAST TO VISIT KIDS WOULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHE. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE REAR AXLE THAT WAS AFFECTING THE TIRES. 2007 CHEVY IMPALA - REAR SUSPENSION PROBLEM RESULTS IN DANGEROUS STABILITY ISSUES IN ICE, SNOW, AND RAIN. THE REAR END OF THE CAR SLIDES AROUND MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO STAY ON THE ROAD AND IN MY LANE. ALSO RESULTS IN UNEVEN AND FAST TIRE WEAR. GM HAS ADMITTED THERE IS AN ISSUE (BULLETIN 08032), BUT WILL ONLY APPLY TO GOVERNMENT CARS. *TR
THIS COMPLAINT IS ABOUT MY 2007 CHEVY IMPALA. ON 3/31/10 I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY COMING BACK FROM FLORIDA WHEN MY REAR TIRE STARTED LOOSING AIR. I IMMEDIATELY GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND FOUND A TIRE REPAIR SHOP IN BARNESVILLE GA. THEY LOOKED AT MY BACK TIRES AND BOTH WERE WORN ON THE INSIDE AS THOUGH MY REAR END WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT. I HAD TO GET 2 NEW TIRES FOR THE BACK. THE ORIGINAL TIRES HAD 37,000 MILES ON THEM. COST OF THE NEW TIRES WERE $296.23. THEN WHEN I GOT BACK HOME I TOOK IT TO THE CHEVY DEALER WHERE THEY SAID I NEEDED A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT AT A COST OF $89.95. I RECENTLY READ IN THE PAPER THAT THIS PROBLEM MAY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE SPINDLE ROD THAT THE DEALER SHOULD HAVE KNOWN ABOUT. *TR

TRAVELING EASTBOUND ON I-90, LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNING CAME ON, I PULLED OVER TO CHECK MY TIRES AND NOTICED THAT JUST THE INSIDE OF MY REAR TIRES WERE WORN DOWN TO THE BELTS, HOWEVER VERY LITTLE WEAR ON THE OUT SIDE OF THE TIRE. I VISUALLY CHECKED THE TIRE PRIOR TO GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY AND DID NOT NOTICE ANY WEAR. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, I FOUND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE.
REAR TIRES WEARING TOO PREMATURELY DUE TO BAD ENGINEERING AND DESIGN IN THE 2007 CHEVY IMPALA. I'M AT 50,000 MILES AND SECOND SET OF TIRES IS WEARING TOO SOON AS WELL. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE SUSPENSION & SPINDLE RODS ANGLING THE TIRES IN THE WRONG POSITION CAUSING THE CAR TO BE UNSAFE DURING ANY ICE, SNOW AND OR SLIPPERY CONDITIONS. GM HAS RECALLED ALL POLICE VEHICLES TO FIX THE PROBLEM IN THE EXACT MODEL CAR. HOWEVER, THEY ARE LEAVING THE INDIVIDUAL OWNER TO SCRAMBLE AND FIND A SOLUTION, KNOWING IT'S A DANGEROUS SITUATION. I HAD HEARD ABOUT A RECALL ON THE 20007- 2008 CHEVY IMPALA. IT INVOLVES THE SPINDLE RODS ON THE REAR SUSPENSION. I HAVE A 2007 IMPALA AND THE BAD SPINDLE RODS ARE EFFECTING MY REAR TIRES. I PURCHASED 4 TIRES IN 2009. AS OF TODAY, MY REAR TIRES NEED REPLACING REALLY SOON DUE TO THIS PROBLEM WITH THE SPINDLE RODS. *TR
THE CAR HAS ALIGNMENT PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING I NEVER FELT CONFIDENT ABOUT THE FEEL AND FELT LIKE TRACTION WAS NOT WAS NOT GOOD. ORIGINAL SET OF TIRES PREMATURELY FAILED AROUND 30,000 MILES. EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE INSIDE. WHEN COMPLAINED THE DEALER SAID IT NEEDED ALIGNMENT AND PERFORMED ON THE FRONT WHEELS. AFTER THAT I REPLACED ALL 4 TIRES. UPON EXAMINING THE TIRES RECENTLY I REALIZED THAT THE REAR TIRES ARE WEARING UNEVENLY, INSIDE WAS WEARING FAST. THE ROAD NOSE FROM THE REAR WHEELS WAS INCREASING STEADILY. HOWEVER THE FRONT TIRES SEEMS TO BE FINE. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER WITH THE PROBLEM, HE SUGGESTED ALL WHEEL ALIGNMENT FOR WHICH I WILL HAVE TO PAY. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO DEFECTIVE PARTS/INSPECTION PRIOR TO DELIVERY.

ON 9/08/09 I WENT TO A LOCAL TIRE DEALER TO REPAIR 2 SLOW LEAKS IN MY TIRES. I WAS ADVISED THE TIRES BADLY NEEDED ALIGNED. ON 9/09/09 I GOT MY ALIGNMENT. THE REPAIRMAN ADVISED ME THE TIRES WERE ALL WORN BADLY, AND I NEEDED NEW ONES BEFORE WINTER.AT THAT TIME MY MILEAGE WAS ABOUT 16,900 MILES. ON 11/02/09 I BOUGHT 4 NEW TIRES FOR A COSDT OF $425.79 OUT OF NECESSITY FOR UPCOMING WINTER DRIVING. I THOUGHT IT WAS VERY ODD THAT I NEEDED NEW TIRES ON THE IMPALA THAT I HAD PURCHASED TWO YEARS AGO, BUT I TRUST MY TIRE MAN, SO I DID NOT QUESTION WHAT HE TOLD ME I NEEDED TO DO. IT HAS BEEN ALMOST TWO YEARS AGAIN, SO NOW I AM CONCERNED ABOUT WHTHER I NEED NEW TIRES AGAIN ALREADY DUE TO THIS GM PROBLEM OF DEFECTIVE SPINDLE RODS, WHICH CONNECT THE SUSPENSION TO THE REAR WHEELS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR TIRES WERE REPLACED THREE TIMES WITHIN THE LAST YEAR DUE TO EXCESSIVE TREAD WEAR AND BLOWOUTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE REAR SUSPENSION WAS REALIGNED AND THE STRUTS WERE REPLACED, BUT THE REPAIRS DID NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THERE WAS AN ARM KIT THAT COULD BE INSTALLED ON THE VEHICLE TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE SITUATION AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ARM KIT WOULD NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE. ADDITIONAL REPAIRS WERE NOT PERFORMED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,059 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
