TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A PIECE OF CLOTHING BECAME CAUGHT IN THE IGNITION KEY WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH. THE IGNITION KEY THEN HAPHAZARDLY RELEASED FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO DRIVE NORMALLY WITHOUT THE KEY BEING IN THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE CONTACT REINSERTED THE KEY WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL POWERED ON AND RUNNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE KEY WILL SHIFT FROM THE 'ON' POSITION TO THE 'ACCESSORY' OR 'OFF' POSITION BY ITSELF AND WITHOUT WARNING. THIS SHUTS DOWN THE ENGINE, PS, PB, AIRBAGS.... I FIRST COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS BACK IN 2003/2004 TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD TO REMOVE THE KEYS FORM THE KEY RING. NOW THIS CAR IS UNDER A RECALL (GM RECALL #N14350, NHTSA RECALL #14V400) AND ALL GM AND THE DEALER SAY THEY WILL DO IS SHAVE OFF SOME OF THE PLASTIC FROM THE GM EMBLEM ON THE ORIGINAL KEYS TO MAKE THEM LIGHTER. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY DO NOT EVEN HAVE TO HAVE THE CAR IN THE SHOP - ALL THEY DO IS MODIFY THE PLASTIC EMBLEM ON THE ORIGINAL KEYS. THIS WON'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM AS I DON'T USE THE ORIGINAL GM KEYS AND THERE IS NO PLASTIC TO SHAVE OFF AND I DON'T HAVE A HUGE KEY RING FULL OF KEYS. THIS IS AN IGNITION PROBLEM, NOT A KEY PROBLEM. *TR

2003 CHEVROLET MALIBU ENGINE REFUSED TO START DUE TO IGNITION SYSTEM, REPLACED IGNITION AND KEY, RESET COMPUTER.*CW THE CONSUMER STATED THE ANTI-THEFT LIGHT ILLUMINATED ROUGHLY 50 TIMES WITHIN THE LAST TWO YEARS. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED. THE IGNITION WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE RAN FINE FOR NINE MONTHS, AND THEN THE PROBLEM RETURNED. *JB

SAFETY ISSUE. THE CAR WENT DEAD SEVERAL INSTANCES AT STOP SIGN, WHEN MAKING A TURN, AND WHILE DRIVING. ON JULY 2, 2014, I DID CONTACTED GM AT 800-222-1020 ABOUT THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL FOR MALIBU 2003 AND THEY TOLD ME THAT I WOULD RECEIVE A LETTER TO TAKE TO A GM DEALER BUT I NEVER RECEIVED IT. I DID CALL THEN AGAIN AND NOW I WAS TOLD THAT THE VIN WAS NOT BEING RECALLED. YESTERDAY, I DID REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH AS I CAN NOT RISK A MAJOR ACCIDENT OR LOSS OF LIFE. IF YOU SEND TO MY ADDRESS A SELF-STAMPED ENVELOPE I WILL SEND YOU THE IGNITION SWITCH THAT WAS REPLACED SO YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN OPINION. I AM VERY UPSET OF THIS GAME WITH THE LIFE OF THE CONSUMERS, I READ NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 14V400, BUT I SUGGEST THAT YOU GOOGLE: THEFT SYSTEM CHEVY MALIBU 2003 AND SEE THE TRUTH, SO HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN AFTER THE FORD EXPLORER? WHO REGULATES THIS MESS WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH?

IGNITION SWITCH FAILED. AFTER PUTTING KEYS IN THE IGNITION, IGNITION SWITCH LOCKED AND WOULD NOT START THE CAR. GM HAS A RECALL ON 2003 CHEVY MALIBU'S FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT SAYS THAT THIS VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE A RECALL ON IT?

WE STARTED HAVING DIFFERENT PROBLEMS WITH THE FAN NOT WANTING TO WORK FOR THE AIR CONDITIONING, LIGHTS NOT WANTING TO WORK AND FAILURE TO START. WE HAD IT FIXED BY A LOCAL MECHANIC ON 5/21/2014. I FEEL LIKE THIS IGNITION SWITCH RECALL FROM GM NEEDS TO BE EXTENDED TO OLDER VEHICLES AND THAT THE KEY FOB IS A COVER UP FOR THE BIGGER ISSUE. *TR
