While driving on highway, engine light came on with signal for service stabilink, and engine power is reduced on dashboard. This cause me to lose acceleration control.
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact’s daughter stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle started to misfire. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 76,484.
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while driving at 60 MPH, the "Engine Power Reduced" warning message appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle independently downshifted and decelerated to 35 MPH with the accelerator pedal depressed to the floorboard. The contact was able to regain normal speed after several minutes; however, the warning message remained on the instrument panel. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer however, a diagnostic test showed no codes were retrieved. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 93,400.
An error message appears on the dash, ENGINE POWER REDUCED. It happen three times this morning and twice yesterday - probably a dozen times over the past year. I've had it into the dealer but they could not find anything by the time I got there. It has happened at 35 MPH and between 45-55 MPH, suddenly and with no other warnings. Turning off the engine for a few minutes clears the message on the dah, but the check engine light remains lit. The check engine light will clear eventually - it may be a few hours or two days of driving. Again, I've had it checked on multiple occasions as the car was "certified" by GM, but now the warranty has expired, the issue continues and I see a LOT of reports of the same online.
The reduced engine speed popped up on the dashboard and slowed my speed down to 20 mph in the middle of traffic and it will not correct even though I have turned it off and restarted the engine.
I was at a red light waiting for the light to turn green like normal I press the pedal the car goes at it's normal pace until one day I was at a red light and when I press the pedal the car suddenly shut off and didn't want to start I pulled over called a mechanic couldn't really describe what was going on at the time but i made a appointment for the next day I started up the car up again and it drove and when I reached 30 mph the dashboard flashed engine speed reduce so I took it home and didn't drive to the morning to the mechanic he change a variety of things battery, alternator,sparks plugs, throttlebody ,and mass airflow, and nothing work I finally took it to a dealer and the dealer said it's turbo bypass valve or the actual turbo they don't know which it's either you buy the part and see if it fixes the problem and if it don't buy a whole new turbo
after 4 years My 2017 Malibu Engine light is on now with power reducing power periodically. Thus is dangerous and was not fixed at the dealer. This is serious. Why isn’t there a recall. I know there is a class action suit. The is not acceptable at all.
I PARK MY CAR BUT I GET A SHIFT TO PARK MESSAGE EVEN THOUGH MY CAR IS IN PARK

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE POWER REDUCED MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED TO 20 MPH. THE FAILURE RECURRED ONCE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO CARL BLACK CHEVROLET SERVICE (535 MURFREESBORO PIKE, NASHVILLE, TN 37210) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE PRESSURE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.

The contact stated that while her daughter was at a red light, the engine failed to start-up upon depression of the accelerator as the STOP/START feature failed to operate as needed. The "steering assist reduced, drive with care" warning message appeared on the instrument panel. Her daughter was able to restart the vehicle and resumed normal driving; however, the failure continued to occur intermittently. The contact called the dealer and they informed her that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be diagnosed or repaired. VEHICLE RANDOMLY PRESENTS AN ENGINE FAILURE MAKING IMPOSSIBLE ANY ACCELERATION. ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AS WELL AS THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT. IT DISPLAYS A MESSAGE 'ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED'. THIS FORCES THE DRIVER TO HAVE TO PULL OVER REGARDLESS OF TRAFFIC OR UNSAFE CONDITIONS. THE CAR HAS TO BE TURNED OFF AND BACK ON AFTER APPROXIMATELY 20 SECONDS IN ORDER TO RESET THE TRACTION LIGHT ONLY TO OFF, TO BE ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING.
AUGUST 31, 2019 - PURCHASED A 2017 CHEVY MALIBU AT THE DEALERSHIP APRIL 4TH, 2021 - MY CAR HAD A ROUGH RUNNING ENGINE WITH THE INDICATOR LAMP ON. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK MY CAR TO BE INSPECTED (ATTACHED BELOW), A TECHNICIAN FOUND DTC P0300 SET ALONG WITH A MISFIRE LOW COMPRESSION IN ONE OR MORE CYLINDERS. HE CONCLUDED THE CONDITION WAS CAUSED BY A DAMAGED PISTON. MY MECHANIC SHOWED ME A BULLETIN FROM GM DESCRIBING THIS EXACT ISSUE AND THEN RECOMMEND ME TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THE DEALERSHIP THAT I BOUGHT THE CAR AND OR THE MANUFACTURER. APRIL 5TH, 2021 - THE GM REPS THAT I TALKED TO CONCLUDED THAT MY WARRANTY ENDED AND DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE FROM THE MANUFACTURE. THEY CLAIMED TO NOT FIND THE BULLETINS THAT I ATTACHED TO THIS FORM.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HER HUSBAND WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SCHEDULED TO BE DIAGNOSED AT FAIRGROUND AUTO PLAZA (100 FAIRGROUNDS RD, ROLLA, MO 65401, (573)364-1002) WHICH WAS STILL PENDING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE WAS OPENED. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A RETURN CALL FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.

WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE, A WARNING WILL RANDOMLY APPEAR SAYING 'REDUCED ENGINE POWER' AND WILL REDUCE SPEED TO ABOUT 20MPH AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE ANY FASTER.
CRUISING TO WORK ON I-93 IN CONCORD, NH TRAVELING AROUND 65 MPH. I WENT OUT INTO THE PASSING LANE AND THE CAR TOTALLY LOST POWER. THE "REDUCE ENGINE POWER LIGHT" CAME ON AND VEHICLE WOULD ONLY GO 25-30 MPH. THANKFULLY THERE WASN'T A VEHICLE BEHIND ME. I WOULD HAVE BEEN "KILLED". DROPPED VEHICLE TO CHEVY DEALER. THEY FOUND P2127 STORED IN SYSTEM, RESET ECM ROAD TESTED AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE ANY FAULTS. MILEAGE 75,698. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY AND TOTALLY UNSAFE AND UNACCEPTABLE. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE SHOP AGAIN FOR THE FOURTH TIME, SAME ISSUE. I WILL REPORT EACH INCIDENT SEPARATELY. *TR
I AM A 70 YEAR OLD TEACHER THAT PURCHASED A 2017 CHEVY IMPALA ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO, AND LAST YEAR I BEGAN EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH THE CAR MALFUNCTIONING AND THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATING. I TOOK THE CAR TO CHEVROLET OF TURNERSVILLE, THEY SUPPOSEDLY FIXED IT, BUT THEN THIS PROBLEM RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES WITHIN A MONTH, AND EACH TIME I TOOK IT BACK TO THEM THEY "DIAGNOSED" SOMETHING DIFFERENT. LATER, COME TO FIND OUT, THIS CAR WAS RECALLED FOR "PRE IGNITION ISSUES", SO THEY ISSUED ME A REFUND FOR THE COST OF THOSE "REPAIRS". LAST WEEK, THE SAME EXACT ISSUED RECURRED, SO I TOOK IT BACK TO CHEVY, FOR THEM TO SAY IT WAS MY BATTERY. $400 LATER, I GOT THE CAR BACK, AND WITHIN A MATTER OF DAYS, THE SAME SYMPTOMS OCCURRED SO I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THEM NOW TO SAY THAT MY PISTON HEAD IN ENGINE WAS CRACKED, SO NOW THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WHICH WOULD BE AROUND $8000. I SPOKE WITH THE GENERAL MANAGER AND THE BEST HE COULD DO WAS TO TELL ME HE WOULD "TRY" TO WORK UP SOME NUMBERS TO GET ME INTO ANOTHER CAR. I PLAN TO RETIRE NEXT YEAR, WHICH IS WHY I PURCHASED SOMETHING REASONABLY PRICED AND PRESUMABLY "RELIABLE", SO I WILL SOON BE ON A FIXED INCOME AND CAN'T AFFORD THAT TYPE OF FIX, NOR ANOTHER CAR WITH THE BALANCE OF THIS FAULTY CAR TACKED ON TO THE BALANCE. WITH RESEARCH, I FOUND OUT THAT THE PRE IGNITION ISSUE RESULTS IN THE CRACKING OF THE PISTON HEAD, WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT THE PRE IGNITION ISSUE WAS NEVER CORRECTED PROPERLY. ESPECIALLY SINCE BASED ON 17019 SPI NHTSA, THE FIX DIFFERED FROM WHAT THIS DEALERSHIP DID AND UNDER THIS PLAN THE FIX WAS BEING SERVICED AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER. SINCE THIS ISSUE OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES, I'VE BEEN ON HIGHWAYS, SIDE STREETS, AND STATIONARY AT TRAFFIC SIGNALS WHICH HAVE ALL POSED SAFETY RISKS. *TR
ON TUESDAY, MARCH 3, 2020, I WAS TRAVELING ON THEY HIGHWAY WHEN SUDDENLY MY CAR REDUCED SPEED. AND THE ENGINE POWER REDUCE LIGHT CAME ON. THIS WAS AT APPROXIMATELY 5:30 PM DURING RUSH HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY. THERE WAS NO ALERT PRIOR TO THIS HAPPENING AND A VEHICLE BEHIND ME HAD TO QUICKLY GO AROUND ME. I COULD NOT GO OVER 20 MPH. ABOUT 20 MINS AGO WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE MESSAGES ME SAYING "ENGINE POWER REDUCED" AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY VEHICLES POWER WAS REDUCED. THANKFULLY I WASNT DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY OR ANYTHING BUT THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS AND ALARMING TO ME. I BOUGHT MY 2017 MALIBU IN JULY OF 2019 FROM A CHEVY DEALERSHIP. SINCE I'VE BOUGHT IT MY CAR HAS RAPIDLY SLOWED DOWN WITH NOW WARNING AND MY DASHBOARD READING ENGINE POWER REDUCED. IT'S HAPPENED 5 TIMES SINCE I GOT THE CAR ONE BEING I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND ALMOST GOT HIT BY A SEMI ON MY WAY TO WORK IN MORNING TRAFFIC. I LOOKED UP THIS ISSUE TO SEE WHAT COULD BE CAUSING IT AND TURNS OUT OTHER 2016-2018 MALIBU'S HAVE THE SAME ISSUES. I TOOK IT TO AUTOZONE FOR A DIAGNOSIS AND IT'S THE THROTTLE PEDAL POSITION BEING FARTHER APART THAN ALLOWED. THE DEALERSHIP IS CHARGING ME $200 TO FIX THE ISSUE AND I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS CAR FOR 6 MONTHS.
ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON AND OFF FOR THE PASS YEAR.THIS IS A 2017 AND THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING THIS SOON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY CHANGED THE BATTERY.
