DT: CONTACT OWNS A 1999 CHEVROLET TAHOE. WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES AS HE WAS ENTERING THE GARAGE THE BRAKES WOULD NOT WORK. THE PEDAL WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR BUT WOULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE SO HE PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK. HE DID NOT HAVE TIME TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS INDICATING THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. THISWAS THE FIRST TIME THAT THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES. RECALL 05V379000 FOR THE 2000-2002 MODELS WAS ISSUED, BUT NOT ON THE 1999 MODEL. THE DEALERSHIP AND THE MANUFACTURER SAID THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE 1999 CHEVROLET TAHOE, AND THIS VEHICLE WAS IDENTICAL TO THE 1999 CHEVROLET TAHOE.*AK
THE ABS ACTIVATED WHEN BRAKING INCREASING THE VEHICLE'S STOPPING DISTANCE. THE ABS BRAKES MADE NOISE WHEN THEY WERE ACTIVATED AND NOW IT ACTIVATES ON DRY PAYMENT. *NM IN COLD WEATHER, THE ABS BRAKES WOULD ACTIVATE ON THE VERY FIRST STOP IN THE MORNING. THE FRONT BRAKE PADS WERE WEARING UNEVEN FROM LEFT TO RIGHT. *SC *JB
DT: WITHOUT WARNING THE BRAKES WILL NOT WORK. THE CONSUMER HAS TO HIT THE BRAKES HARD AT TIMES TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THE CONSMER SAID THERE IS A RECALL IN CANADA ON THESE BRAKES. THE DEALER SAID THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CALLED YET. *AK *SC *JB
DT: THE CONTACT COMPLAINED ABOUT AN ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEM. THERE WAS NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 05V379000. THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATED AT LOW SPEEDS, LESS THAN 5 MPH. THE DEALERSHIP AND THE MANUFACTURER HAVE BEEN CONTACTED. THEY TOLD THE CONTACT THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, AND SINCE THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT REGULARLY SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP, THEY WILL NOT CONSIDER ASSISTING HIM. THE REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE TO THE VEHICLE AT CONTACT'S EXPENSE. *AK
I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT TODAY. THE REASON FOR THE ACCIDENT IS THAT MY ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ENGAGED AT LESS THAN 15 MPH THEREFORE NOT ALLOWING ME TO STOP IN TIME. THE BRAKE ACTUALLY FELT AS IF THEY WERE NOT WORKING AT ALL. I WAS INFORMED THAT NEWER MODELS WERE INCLUDED IN A RECALL IN THE SALT BELT, BUT NOT IN MN. WHAT CAN WE DO TO FIX THE PROBLEM? ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ON 1999 CHEVROLET TAHOE HAVE FAILED CAUSING BRAKING PROBLEMS WHEN COMING TO A STOP. GM DID NOT INCLUDE THE 1999 YEAR TAHOE IN THEIR RECALL LEAVING THE COST OF REPAIR UP TO ME. *JB
1999 CHEVROLET TAHOE EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE EQUIPMENT.*MR THE ABS ACTIVATED AT LOW SPEEDS AND WHILE ON DRY PAVEMENT WHICH REDUCED THE BRAKING EFFECT AND INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE ABS LIGHT NOW REMAINS ON WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. THE DEALER SUGGESTED THAT THE ABS MODULE BE REPLACED AFTER THE FIRST ATTEMPT TO CLEAN THE CORROSION ON THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR DID NOT WORK. *JB
DT: A LOW SPEEDS ON SNOW OR LOOSE GRAVEL THE ABS WILL NOT LET VEHICLE STOP AT REASONABLE DISTANCES.*AK
ABS ACTIVATES AT SPEEDS UNDER 10MPH WHETHER APPLYING THE BRAKES OR NOT. THERE IS INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR. HAS ALMOST CAUSED ACCIDENT ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION.
OCCASIONALLY WHILE BRAKING ON DRY AND CLEAR PAVEMENT MY 1999 CHEVY TAHOE WILL APPEAR TO ACTIVATE THE ABS SYSTEM. THIS OCCURS AT LOW SPEED AND EXTENDS THE STOPPING DISTANCE OF THE VEHICLE. FIRST OBSERVED ABOUT JANUARY 2005. *SC *JB

DT: THE CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT AN ABS BRAKE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM FIRST STARTED IN APRIL 2005. THE BRAKES CATCH AT LOW SPEEDS. IT HAS HAPPENED AROUND 40-50 TIMES. NHTSA RECALL 05V379000 AND GM RECALL NUMBER 05068 WAS ISSUED. WHEN THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, THEY SAID THAT THE CONSUMER'S STATE OF RESIDENCE AND VIN WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. ORIGINAL OWNER OF 1999 TAHOE. SINCE PURCHASE, I HAVE FELT THAT THE TRUCK WAS NOT STOPPING WELL, EVEN AT LOW SPEEDS. I RETURNED TO DEALER AND THEY CONTINUED TO SAY NOTHING WAS WRONG. SINCE THAT TIME, I HAVE HAD FOUR DIFFERENT DEALERS IN THREE STATES AND TWO PRIVATE MECHANICS LOOK AT IT. ALL HAVE SAID IT "PERFORMS AS INTENDED". THE BRAKES WERE WORKED ON SEVEN TIMES THAT I HAVE RECORDS FOR. AT 17K MILES, 32K MILES, REAR BRAKES WERE CLEANED AND ADJUSTED. AT 36K, FRONT ROTORS WERE RESURFACED, REAR BRAKES CLEANED/ADJUSTED. AT 47K, FRONT ROTORS WERE REPLACED AND REAR DRUMS WERE TURNED. REPLACED PADS. REARS ADJUSTED AT 59K. AT 72K, REPLACED FRONT BRAKES AND MACHINED ROTORS. CLEANED/ADJUSTED REARS. THIS CONTINUES ON EVERY 20K MILES OR SO AND STILL THE TRUCK DOES NOT STOP UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS EVEN AT LOW SPEEDS. THE REAR BRAKE ADJUSTMENTS ONLY LAST ABOUT TWO WEEKS, THEN BACK TO THE SAME THING. LUCKILY, I HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT YET BUT HAVE HAD TO PULL TO THE SIDE TO AVOID HITTING CAR IN FRONT OF ME. *NM

MY 1999 CHEVY TAHOE HAS A CONDITION WHERE IF THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED WHILE THE VEHICLE IS TRAVELING AT A SPEED GREATER THAN 3.7 MPH BUT LESS THAN 10 MPH, I GET UNWANTED ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) ACTIVATION. NO ACCIDENTS HAVE BEEN CAUSE BY THIS YET, BUT IT HAS BEEN VERY CLOSE MANY TIMES.

ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ON MY TAHOE STARTED ACTIVATING AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN OR STOPPING ON CLEAR/DRY ROADWAYS. IT TOOK LONGER TO STOP, AND THE FIRST FEW TIMES IT HAPPENED I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO STOP WITHOUT SMASHING INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, OR THAT THERE WAS NO CAR IN THE INTERSECTION WHEN I WENT PAST THE STOP SIGN A FEW FEET. I WAS TOLD BY A MECHANIC FRIEND THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY A DIRTY OR DEFECTIVE ABS SENSOR. HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT GM DOES NOT SELL THE SENSOR SEPERATELY AND YOU HAVE TO BUY THE ENTIRE WHEEL HUB, WHICH COSTS AROUND $500 PER WHEEL. I HAVE NOT HAD IT REPAIRED YET DUE TO THE COST. I SIMPLY ALLOW MYSELF MORE TIME TO STOP. I WAS TOLD THAT I COULD DISABLE THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. I AM HESITANT TO DO THAT BECAUSE I FEEL I HAVE BETTER CONTROL WITH THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES THAN CONVENTIONAL BRAKES WITH THE WEATHER IN THE AREA WHERE I LIVE.
CHEVY TAHOE 1999, WE HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR FOUR YEARS AND PUT 40,000 + MILES ON IT, IT NOW HAS 102,000 MILES. IN THAT TIME FRAME WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT ROTERS AND PADS FOUR TIMES. IN JANUARY OF 2002 I HAD AN ACCIDENT AT SLOW SPEED IN SLUSHY ROAD CONDITIONS WHERE THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP OVER A TRAVEL DISTANCE OF 100'+/- IT WAS BLAMED ON DRIVER ERROR AND POOR ROAD CONDITIONS, SINCE THAT TIME WE HAD A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE FRONT BRAKES WITH NO ACCIDENT AND FORTUNATELY NO INJURY. A THIRD INCIDENT RESULTED IN NO PROPERTY DAMAGE OR ACCIDENT.
CONTACT STATES: POOR BRAKE PERFORMANCE ON 1999 CHEVROLET, TAHOE. THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM WASN'T WORKING . *AK
ABS INTERMIDENTLY WORKING AT SLOW SPEEDS. MECHANIC THOUGHT CLEANING OFF THE ABS SENSORS WOULD HELP. INSTEAD MECHANIC HAD TO REPLACE PADS, ROTORS,CALIPERS AND SLIDES AND WHEEL CYLINDER. MY 1999 TAHOE ONLY HAD 65,890 MILES ON 2/14/05 WHEN REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. COST $785.00 AND IS WELL DOCUMENTED. MECHANIC IS GM CERTIFIED AND WAS SURPRISED AT THE AMOUNT OF REPAIRS NEEDED.

I SPOKE TO CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT EVEN THOUGH I WAS EXPERIENCING ABS BRAKING PROBLEMS, MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. DT: BEGINNING IN JULY, THE CONSUMER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES DURING LOW SPEED BRAKE APPLICATIONS. WHEN APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, THE BRAKES WOULD GRAB. THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD FLUCTUATE. THERE WAS A FEELING LIKE BEING ON ICE. THE PROBLEM HAPPENED ABOUT 85-90 PERCENT OF THE TIME. THE PROBLEM BECAME WORSE WITH TIME. THE CONSUMER CHECKED ON THE RECALL 05V379000. HIS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. THEY STATED THAT THE OWNER HAS THE OLD WHEEL SPEED SENSORS AND THOSE WERE NOT AFFECTED BY THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER WOULD LIKE TO ALERT NHTSA THAT HIS VEHICLE STILL HAS THE EXACT PROBLEM LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER HAS NOT REPAIRED IT YET. ON OCTOBER 04, 2005 GM REVISES FORM 573 REMOVING 1999 CHEVROLET TAHOE AND OTHERS. THERE IS NO INDICATION THAT NHTSA HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THE REMOVAL OF THIS MODEL YEAR, NOR IF THIS WOULD STILL SATISFY PE05-020 / GM679 1999 CHEVROLET TAHOE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THIS SAFETY RECALL AS ORIGINALLY IDENTIFIED BY GM AND ACKNOWLEDGED BY NHTSA. *NM
