MY 2011 CHEVY TRAVERSE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, ON 9/18/20 AND REFERENCED ERROR CODES P0009 AND P0018. THE CAR IS LOOSES POWER WHEN DRIVEN AND IS GETTING TERRIBLE GAS MILEAGE. IT ONLY HAS 111,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN MAINTAINED ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURER'S GUIDELINES. THE MECHANIC THAT REVIEWED MY CAR INDICATED A TIMING CHAIN ISSUE, WHICH I HAVE FOUND ALL OVER THE INTERNET HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER 2011 TRAVERSE OWNERS. LUCKILY MY CHAIN DID NOT BREAK WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. WHEN WILL CHEVY BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS ISSUE?

BOUGHT CAR CERTIFIED USED IN 4/2014 FROM DEALER WHO PERFORMED RECALL 13079 (WATER PUMP SHAFT LEAK). WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 68 MPH, CAR LOST POWER, OVERHEATED WITH SMOKE COMING FROM HOOD. WIFE WAS DRIVING WITH KIDS IN BACK - COULD HAVE GOTTEN INTO AN ACCIDENT OR CAR COULD HAVE CAUGHT FIRE. LOCAL SHOP SAYS WATER PUMP LEAKED AND FAILED CAUSING COOLANT LEAK. CALLED GM REG. DEFECTIVE RECALL WORK AND FOR REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIR COSTS - THEY REFUSED SAYING ITS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT THE ORIGINAL WORK WASN'T A RECALL BUT A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM. I DISAGREE - CAR COULD HAVE GOTTEN INTO ACCIDENT DUE TO LOST POWER AND COULD HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE. GM SHOULD ISSUE RECALL AND REIMBURSE COSTS FOR DEFECTIVE WORKSMANSHIP.

TL-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE SPEED DECREASED INDEPENDENTLY TO APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH AS THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR NEEDED TO BE CLEANED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO PERFORMED A TUNE UP AND INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000. DJR

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE EXPRESSWAY GOING 70 MILES AN HOUR AND MY CAR ALL OF A SUDDEN WENT INTO SAFE MODE AND DROPPED TO 10 MILES AN HOUR IN A MATTER OF SECONDS. I CAME VERY CLOSE TO BEING REAR ENDED BY THE CAR BEHIND ME AND I HAD TO SWERVE OFF THE ROAD INTO LOOSE GRAVEL AND ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF MY CAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO HANK GRAFF CHEVROLET WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND THEY SAID THE THROTTLE BODY HAD WENT OUT ALONG WITH THE RACK AND PINION. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $2500.00. I CALLED THE DETROIT ZONE OFFICE AND [XXX] TOLD ME THAT EVERYTHING WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY EXCEPT FOR THE ALIGNMENT. I THEN RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE SERVICE WRITER A FEW DAYS LATER AND WAS TOLD THAT GM WOULD NOT COVER IT. I TALKED TO THE ZONE OFFICE AGAIN AND ASKED WHY WOULDN'T THIS BE COVERED, IT IS A SAFETY ITEM AND OTHER TRAVERSES HAVE HAD RECALLS FOR THE THROTTLE BODY. I WAS TOLD SORRY MINE WAS NOT ONE OF THEM AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY. I FEEL THAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS AS IT CAN CAUSE SOME MAJOR ACCIDENTS OR EVEN DEATHS IF THIS HAPPENS TO SOMEONE ELSE. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT THIS DID NOT RESULT IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. MY CAR HAS ONLY 69000 MILES ON IT, WHY WOULD THESE PARTS FAIL AT SUCH A LOW MILEAGE. LUCKILY, SHE WAS IN TRAFFIC AND NOT GOING FULL HIGHWAY SPEED OR ELSE SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR ACCIDENT HURTING MANY PEOPLE INVOLVED. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2010 TRAVERSE FOR THIS SAME ISSUE, AND EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE PLENTY OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE ON THE 2011 (HTTP://FORUMS.EDMUNDS.COM/DISCUSSION/14979/CHEVROLET/TRAVERSE/CHEVY-TRAVERSE-STABILITRAK-TRACTION-CONTROL-PROBLEMS), NO RECALLS HAVE BEEN ISSUED. DO THERE HAVE TO BE DEATHS INVOLVED WITH THIS ISSUE BEFORE CHEVY DECIDES FIX THIS ISSUE? THE COMPLAINTS ALSO INCLUDE THE DEALERSHIP ATTEMPTING A BUNCH OF ATTEMPTED FIXES, WITH SOME OF THEM CORRECTING THE PROBLEM AND SOME NOT (THROTTLE BODY BEING ONE). IN THIS STATE, THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE, AND ITS NOT DUE TO CUSTOMER ABUSE OR HIGH MILEAGE PARTS. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY CHEVY AND CORRECTED ASAP. THIS VEHICLE AND MANY OTHER GENERAL MOTORS CARS LIKE IT HAVE BEEN ON MANY POST AND FORUMS ON THE INTERNET AT LEAST IN THE HUNDREDS. I HAVE PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE USED AND THEREFORE THE DATE OF THE INCIDENTS ARE RECENT. I WOULD DESCRIBE THIS A DESIGN PROBLEM. IF THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED ON A SLIGHT INCLINE AND THE TRANSMISSION IS IN DRIVE AND YOU THEN TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO PROCEED (AS YOU WOULD DO WHEN STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT), THE CAR WILL ROLL BACKWARDS UNTIL THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED ENOUGH TO OVERCOME THE INCLINE. THIS COULD BE A DANGER IF A PEDESTRIAN IS WALKING BEHIND YOUR VEHICLE OR YOU COULD ROLL BACK INTO A VEHICLE BEHIND YOU. IF YOU ARE ON AN INCLINE (FACING DOWNHILL) IN REVERSE GEAR, THE CAR WILL ROLL FORWARD UNTIL THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED ENOUGH TO OVERCOME THE INCLINE. THIS REQUIRES THE DRIVER TO STEP ON THE BRAKE SO AS NOT TO ROLL WITH ONE FOOT AND DEPRESS THE GAS PEDAL WITH THE OTHER SO AS NOT TO ROLL. THE CHEVROLET DEALER SHIP DESCRIBES THIS AS NORMAL AND IS DUE TO THE 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION AND THE STANDARDS FOR FUEL ECONOMY. I WAS TOLD THEIR IS NO CURE FOR THIS SUCH AS RAISING THE IDLE SPEED FOR THE ENGINE, REPROGRAMMING THE ECM (CONTROL MODULE OR OTHER FIX. GENERAL MOTORS DOES OFFER A FEATURE ON SOME MODELS WHICH IS A HILL HOLD ASSIST SO IT MUST BE A CONCERN TO MANY CUSTOMERS. I AM WRITING TO INFORM YOU OF A RECENT SAFETY ISSUE WE HAD WITH OUR 2011 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 25, 2012, I WAS PARKED IN SAID VEHICLE WITH THE KEYS OUT OF THE IGNITION, PUMPING GAS AT SMOKIN JOES ON INDIAN HILL IN LEWISTON. I HAD ALL THREE OF MY CHILDREN, AGES 8, 6, AND 5 IN THE VEHICLE. WHILE PUMPING GAS, MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROLL, RIPPING THE GAS NOZZLE FROM MY CAR, SPILLING GAS. I BEGAN TO RUN AFTER MY CAR AND THANKFULLY IT STOPPED JUST BEFORE ENTERING ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I THANK THE GRACE OF GOD THAT MY CHILDREN WERE NOT INJURED'MY HUSBAND LOOKED AT THE GEAR SHIFTER AND HE WAS ABLE TO POP IT OUT OF GEAR WITHOUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND HIS FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL. ON THURSDAY, APRIL 26, 2012 I TOOK MY CAR INTO KIPO. THEY LOOKED AT MY VEHICLE AND ALSO CONFIRMED OUR FINDINGS, THAT THE CAR DOES, IN FACT, SLIP OUT OF GEAR WHEN THE KEY IS OUT OF THE IGNITION AND THE FOOT IS OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL'CONTACT WITH BILL WIRTHEIM, GM OF PADDOCK CHEVROLET, WHERE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. MR. WIRTHEIM CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS, WHO THEN DECLARED MY VEHICLE UNDER GM INVESTIGATION. A DRIVER FROM PADDOCK CAME TO OUR HOME TO PICK UP OUR VEHICLE. WE WERE CONTACTED BY JUSTIN,A REPRESENTATIVE FROM GM ON MAY 3. GM RETURN PHONE CALL FROM HIM UNTIL MONDAY, MAY 7. HE JUST WANTED A RECAP OF WHAT HAPPENED. THAT SAME DAY, MY HUSBAND FOLLOWED UP WITH PADDOCK, WHO CLAIMED THEY BELIEVED THE VEHICLE TO HAVE BEEN ALREADY REPAIRED BY KIPO, WHICH IT WAS NOT. THIS AFTERNOON, BILL WIRTHEIM CONTACTED MY HUSBAND AND TOLD HIM THEY WILL FIX THE VEHICLE AND WE CAN HAVE IT BACK. APPARENTLY THERE WAS A LIQUID THAT HAD PREVIOUSLY SPILLED OVER THE GEAR SHIFTER THAT SHORTED OUT. WE ARE NOT SATISFIED WITH THIS RESPONSE. THIS WASN'T JUST AN ISSUE OF A GEAR SHIFTER SHORTING OUT WHILE PARKED IN OUR DRIVEWAY. OUR CHILDREN WERE IN THE CAR THAT WAS PARKED ON AN INCLINE OF A BUSY GAS STATION AND INTERSECTION AND COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED.

MY CHEVY TRAVERSE ROLLS BACK WHEN STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN ON A HILL BEFORE APPLYING THE GAS, WHEN YOU ATTEMPT TO TAKE OFF, YOU REALLY HAVE TO REV UP THE ENGINE OR LEAVE YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHILE APPLYING THE GAS OR IT WILL ROLL BACK. THIS HAPPENS ON ANY INCLINE NO MATTER SIZE. THE DEALER STATED THIS IS HOW THE CAR IS DESIGNED. WHAT MANUFACTURER WOULD DESIGN SOMETHING UNSAFE LIKE THAT? I FEAR FOR MY SAFETY IN THE SNOW AND ICE. MY SECOND INCIDENT INVOLVED BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE, I BACKED APPROX 4 FT AND THEN HAD TO GO OVER A 3" SPEED BUMP, BUT MY CAR WOULDN'T CONTINUE TO GO BACKWARDS, UNTIL I REVVED UP TO 2000 RPMS. THEN IF FINALLY MADE IT OVER THE 3" HUMP. THEY SAY THIS IS NORMAL FOR THE 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION I HAVE BECAUSE OF THE "GREEN' ENVIRONMENT CHANGES MADE TO GIVE IT MORE FUEL ECONOMY. GREEN ENVIRONMENT OVER SAFETY WHAT IS OUR GOVERNMENT THINKING, IF THIS IS REALLY THE TRUTH. I AM NOW CONCERNED I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO KEEP MY CAR IN MY GARAGE, WHEN THE SNOW AND ICE FALL AS I WON'T BE ABLE TO REV IT THAT HIGH OR I WILL WRECK MY VEHICLE INTO THE SIDE OF MY GARAGE. THIS CHEVY TRAVERSE ROLLS BACK WHEN STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN ON A HILL. WHEN YOU ATTEMPT TO TAKE OFF, YOU REALLY HAVE TO REV UP THE ENGINE OR IT WILL ROLL BACK. THIS HAPPENS ON ANY INCLINE NO MATTER SIZE. THE DEALER STATED THIS IS HOW THE CAR IS DESIGNED. WHAT MANUFACTURER WOULD DESIGN SOMETHING LIKE THAT? MY 16 YEAR OLD IS DRIVING NOW, AND I WON'T ALLOW HER TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE OF SAFETY ISSUES. I WOULD LIKE TO TRADE THIS CAR IN FOR SOMETHING SAFER, BUT THAT WOULD NOT BE ECONOMICALLY SMART SINCE I JUST PURCHASED IT 7 MONTHS AGO. I ALSO THINK THE HEADREST NEED TO BE REDESIGNED. THEY PROTRUDE TOWARD YOUR HEAD AND PUSHES YOUR HEAD FORWARD. NOT COMFORTABLE AT ALL. I WISH I COULD HAVE TEST DROVE THIS CAR FOR WEEK, I WOULD HAVE NEVER PURCHASED IT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. WHILE ON AN INCLINE WITH THE BRAKE DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARD WHEN HE REMOVED HIS FOOT FROM THE BRAKE TO THE ACCELERATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS INSPECTED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,133. UPDATED 10/21/11 *BF UPDATED 12/23/11

WHEN REVERSING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY I CANNOT PUT IT IN DRIVE OR STOP IT. I HAD TO PUT IT IN PARK TURN IT OFF AND PRESS THE EMERGENCY BRAKES IN ORDER FOR IT TO STOP ROLLING DOWN THE HILL. THIS HAS NOW OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 4X. LAST NIGHT IT HAPPENED AGAIN BUT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE DIDN'T WORK THE ENGINE MADE A WHINING/SCREECHING NOISE AND THE CAR SLAMMED INTO ROCKS AND A FIRE HYDRANT. WHICH TORE OFF MY BACK BUMPER. I HAD BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALERSHIP WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN FOR SERVICE AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. AFTER IT HAPPENED AN ADDITIONAL 3 TIMES THEY TOLD ME TO CALL THEM THE NEXT TIME IT HAPPENED AND THEY WOULD COME PICK IT UP. SINCE THIS HAPPENED AGAIN LAST NIGHT THEY HAVE YET TO PICK IT UP. THEY WERE CLOSED AND WONT BE OPEN AGAIN UNTIL AROUND 8AM CENTRAL TIME. I AM FORTUNATE THAT THIS DID NOT HAPPEN ON A MAJOR ROADWAY. *TR
