2018 Chrysler 300 Electrical System

Box 21-8004 Auburn Hills, MI 48321-8004 RE: FORMAL COMPLAINT – Safety Defect (Rearview Camera Failure) Vehicle 1: 2012 Chrysler 300S (VIN: [XXX] ) Vehicle 2: 2018 Chrysler 300S (VIN: [XXX] ) To the Chrysler Customer Care Team: I am a loyal, multi-vehicle Chrysler owner currently residing in San Diego County. I am writing to formally report a persistent and dangerous safety defect affecting both of my Chrysler 300S vehicles. Description of Defect: In both vehicles, the factory-installed backup camera has failed completely. When the vehicles are shifted into reverse, the infotainment screen remains blank or black. This failure significantly reduces rearward visibility, creating a severe safety risk for pedestrians and property, especially given the known blind spots of the 300S model. Legal and Safety Context: As you are aware, Chrysler has issued multiple recent recalls (including Recall 24V-436) regarding rearview camera software failures. Furthermore, for the 2018 model, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 111 mandates a functional rear visibility system. The identical failure across two different model years suggests a fundamental defect in the camera hardware or wiring harnesses used in this vehicle line. Requested Resolution: As a long-term supporter of the Chrysler brand, I am requesting a Goodwill Repair for both vehicles. I ask that Chrysler authorize a local authorized dealer in San Diego (Chula Vista/National City) to inspect and repair these camera systems at no cost to me. Please respond to this request in writing within 10 business days. I have also opened a report with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to document these failures. Malfunction of display LCD screen has become delaminated causing loss of hands free communication, navigation, temperature controls, & settings. LCD screen sporadically goes off & on without being able to control display causing a beeping sound as it randomly jumps between screen settings.

Chrysler needs to recall this issue. Many people are having this same screen issue. Chrysler, Please do something about this. This has been known to be a safety issue, as when it gets bad enough, the screen will black out. Delamination on screens has been known to cause the screen to black out, especially during backing, and buttons will randomly be pushed. Chrysler, recall this issue. Thank you.

The touchscreen that controls everything is going nuts. Cant get the music to work anymore, air blows then heat. back vizor goes up an down. yes i'll take it wherever Its distracting It can be taken anywhere to verify this I dont know who to take it too but i can cant see the warning messages cause its off majority

There’s been some sort of liquid in the tv screen for a while but now the tv does what it wants, makes random phone calls, changes radio stations, it just glitches all crazy pushing random buttons or just doesn’t work at all

The touchscreen that controls the heating, defrost, radio, and various items cycles from one screen to the next is turning on and off each selected item rapidly. For example: one minute the defrost will be on, the next the radio will appear, then the phone, next other items. As it does this, it shuts items off like the heat and defrost. I believe that to be dangerous as the windshield will fog over impairing vision and it is generally distracting my concentration from the road. I have been online and there are numerous complaint and forums about this dangerous issue that should be addressed by the manufacturer.

My car radio is delaminated causing the radio or other controls to not function properly. Buttons are pressed without me touching the screen. Other Chrysler users have the same issues and it’s a safety problem

Touch screen on dash is delaminating, and progressively getting worse. This is causing the touch screen to be completely inoperable, and touch screen must be powered off while driving or it will randomly call people, change A/C setting, etc.

The audio system screen has become delaminated. This causes buttons to be selected at random by the unit. Climate control constantly changes. When in the phone mode, it will hang up current call and call other contacts listed on the attached phone. The radio switches stations and audio functions at random. Cannot use the GPS unit because it will change to previously used addresses.

The screen is bubbling or delaminating on the radio/head unit. It will randomly select or unselect any item on the screen. Sometimes when using the backup camera it is very hard to see. Sometimes it does not disengage from the backup screen, you will have to shut car off and restart when that occurs. This has been going on for about 1 year.

My vehicle has a backup camera and also controls different functions of my vehicle the screen will completely blank or when I put into reverse the screen will show a distorted view on the screen or I will get bold colored lines on the screen with distorted views. I took a picture of the screen and took it to a Chrysler dealership while my vehicle was still under warranty the service advisor told me that he had never seen that before and they would have to keep my vehicle and see if it did it when they had it.I told him that I never know when it will do it .
