SUDDEN ENGINE FAILURE AT 65,000 MILES WHEN DRIVING AT ABOUT 45 MILES PER HOUR. THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SERVICED SAID THERE WAS A LOSS OF ANTIFREEZE AND THE ENGINE OVERHEATED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I WAS STRANDED ON THE AIRPORT ROAD WITH NO FEEDER AND HAD TO CALL 911. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHTS TO GO ON OR ANY WARNING. WHEN READING OTHER POST ON INTERNET THE CAR BEHAVED JUST AS THOSE WHO HAD CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS A WATER PUMP FAILURE. THIS WAS THE FORD DURATEC ENGINE WHERE THE WATER PUMP IS DRIVEN WITH THE TIMING CHAIN AND IF IT FAILS THE WATER ENTERS THE OIL SYSTEM AND DESTROYS THE ENGINE.
I WAS AT A STOPPED LIGHT WHEN THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR LOCKED UP AND BEGAN SHAKING. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN. I WASN'T ABLE TO USE THE GAS OR BRAKES SO I TURNED THE CAR BACK OFF IMMEDIATELY AGAIN. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE WATER PUMP BURST AND ALL OF THE COOLANT RAN INTO THE ENGINE CAUSING IT TO FAIL. I'VE ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR FIVE YEARS AND MAINTENANCE HAS ALWAYS BEEN UP TO DATE VIA FORD DEALERSHIPS. DURING THESE VARIOUS MAINTENANCE CHECKS, FORD HAS NEVER NOTIFIED ME OF ANY POSSIBLE ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE AND NOW MY ENGINE HAS FAILED AND I'VE NEVER HAD ANY OTHER ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE.
WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY A LIGHT THAT LOOKS LIKE A WRENCH COMES ON, THE VEHICLE STARTS RUNNING ROUGH AND THEN THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF, IT'S HARD TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS PROBLEM HAS REPEATED ITSELF 4 TIMES ONLY WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. AFTER TURNING OFF THE ENGINE AND REMOVING THE KEY, I CAN RE-START THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUE. ONCE IT HAPPENED AGAIN MAYBE 2 MINUTES LATER. MY MECHANIC BELIEVES IT IS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY PART. HE ALSO TOLD ME FORD HAS HAD A RECALL ON THIS SPECIFIC PART ON EDGE'S.
MY CAR STARTED LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID, AND AS I CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT IT STARTED TO CUT OFF. I TOOK IT TO TWO DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOPS FOR SECOND OPINION. THEY BOTH TOLD ME THAT THE ENGINE WAS GONE. THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON IT, AND IT'S A 2010 HOW CAN THAT BE? I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ENGINE RECALL FOR THIS CAR. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR AN ENGINE PLEASE HELP ME BECAUSE THIS IS NOT RIGHT. I KNOW THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL ON A FUEL LEAK FOR THIS MODEL CAR. I'VE ALSO RESEARCHED SOMETHINGS ABOUT ENGINE RECALLS AND FOUND THAT THERE IS, BUT I WANT TO KNOW FOR SURE WHEN I TAKE THE CAR TO THE FORD REPAIR SHOP. PLEASE HELP ME. OUR 2010 FORD EDGE IN THE PAST FEW YEARS HAS STALLED AFTER MAKING A SLOW TURN ON 4 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. DURING THE FIRST 3 OCCURANCES THE WE COULD THE CAR IMMEDIATELY. THE LAST OCCURANCE WAS LAST FRIDAY AFTER COMING OUT OF A SLOW TURN THE CAR LOST ALL FUNCTIONALITY AND I WAS ABLE TO ROLL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN AND IT HAD TO BE TOWED. WHEN IT GOT TO THE AUTO SHOP IT STARTED AGAIN AND THE MECHANIC COULD NOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM OR FIND A PROBLEM WITH THEIR COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS. NEEDLESS TO SAY THE UNEXPLAINED ENGINE FAILURE WAS NOT FIXED. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE ANYMORE BECAUSE OF THE POTENTIAL OF A SERIOUS ACCIDENT RESULTING IN INJURY OR DEATH.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2010 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED AND WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AN IMPOUND LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. UPON RESTART, THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 16,500.
SUDDEN, UNINTENDED ACCELERATION OF MY 2010 FORD EDGE VEHICLE: I TURNED INTO MY HOUSE DRIVEWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 5 TO 10 MILES/HOUR SPEED. AS SOON AS I TURNED INTO MY DRIVEWAY, THE CAR SUDDENLY AND UNINTENTIONALLY ACCELERATED. I COULD NOT CONTROL THE CAR. I SWERVED TO AVOID MY GARAGE, BUT ENDED UP DAMAGING BADLY ONE GARAGE DOOR AND THE OUTER CORNER OF MY GARAGE WALL. THE CAR THEN CRASHED AGAINST A TREE IN MY LAWN AND CAME TO A STOP. THERE WAS BAD DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE CAR. I WAS THE ONLY ONE IN THE CAR. I WAS NOT HURT. THERE WAS NO INJURY TO ANYONE ELSE. I CALLED IN THE POLICE. WHEN THE OFFICER ASKED ME WHAT HAPPENED, I TOLD HIM THAT I MIGHT HAVE ACCELERATED THE CAR IN ERROR, BUT I WAS NOT SURE IF THERE WAS AN ELECTRONIC PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. IN THE MONTH PRECEDING THE ACCIDENT, ON 2 OR 3 OCCASIONS, THE RPM GAUGE IN THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY JUMP FROM APPROXIMATELY 1500 RPM TO APPROXIMATELY 3500 RPM FOR NO OBVIOUS REASON, THERE WILL BE A SLIGHT JERK IN THE CAR BUT NO ACCELERATION OF THE CAR. WITHIN A FEW SECONDS, THE RPM WILL GO BACK DOWN TO APPROXIMATELY 1500 RPM BY ITSELF. I DID NOT REMEMBER THESE INCIDENTS WHEN I SPOKE TO THE INVESTIGATING POLICE OFFICER. THESE 2 TO 3 EPISODES IN THE MONTH PRECEDING THE ACCIDENT MAKES ME SUSPECT THAT THE PROBLEM IS NOT DUE TO HUMAN ERROR, BUT DUE TO AN ELECTRONIC PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. MY INSURANCE COMPANY HAS EVALUATED THE DAMAGE TO MY CAR AND MY HOME AND IS IN THE PROCESS OF SETTLING THE CLAIMS. THE CAR IS IN THE COLLISION SHOP RECOMMENDED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND IS CONSIDERED REPAIRABLE. HOWEVER, I AM NOT COMFORTABLE DRIVING THIS CAR AGAIN UNTIL A PROBLEM IN THE CAR IS RULED OUT. I E-MAILED FORD MOTOR COMPANY CUSTOMER RELATIONS. THEY PROMISED TO RESPOND WITHIN 3 BUSINESS DAYS, BUT HAVE NOT DONE SO. HENCE, I AM CONTACTING NHTSA. *TR
MY 2010 FORD EDGE ALSO HAD THE IDLE STALL PROBLEM. AT 4500 MILES THE PROBLEM STARTED. TOOK MY VEHICLE IN AND THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO RECREATE THE STALL FROM COMPUTER. THERE IS A RECALL FROM THE MFG FOR THE IDLE CONTROLLER. HOWEVER, THERE IS A BACKORDER FOR THE PART UNTIL THE END OF SEPTEMBER. MY DEALER LOCATED A PART FROM ANOTHER DEALER AND WILL BE REPLACING IT TOMORROW IF THE PART ARRIVES. I ALSO REFUSED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL PROBLEM IS RESOLVED. I HAVEN'T RECEIVED ANY RECALL NOTICES FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY. *TR
DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH AND 2010 FORD EDGE COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. I HAD NO WARNING, ALL GAUGES WERE OFF, NO POWER, AND NO HAZARD LIGHTS. FORD HAS HAD THE CAR FOR 10 DAYS TRYING TO FIX IT. THEY HAVE PUT 200 MILES ON IT AND BROUGHT IN A FORD ENGINEER (SPECIALIST) TO TRY AND LOCATE AND FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, CANNOT FIGURE WHAT CAUSED IT AND HAVE NOT REPLACED NOR FIXED ANY PARTS ON THE CAR. THEY WANT TO RELEASE THE CAR BACK TO ME TO WAIT AND SEE IF AND WHEN IT HAPPENS AGAIN. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE AS THIS CAR HAS A KNOWN SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT WITH POTENTIAL CATASTROPHIC CONSEQUENCES. *TR
I AM HAVING WHAT MAY BE A VERY SERIOUS HEALTH/HAZARD ISSUE WITH MY 2008 FORD EDGE. THE PROBLEM IS WHEN YOU DRIVE THE VEHICLE OIL IS LEAKING FROM THE TRANSMISSION/PTU SEAL ON TO THE MUFFLER/LEADPIPE,BURNING ,AND SENDING TOXIC FUMES THROUGH THE FRESH AIR SYSTEM. I HAD TO PULL OVER TODAY TO AIR THE VEHICLE OUT, IN WHICH IT HAS LEFT ME SICK FROM THE BURNING FUMES. WHEN SITTING OIL IS LEAKING ONTO THE GROUND. I HAVE CONTACTED MY FORD DEALER, IN WHICH THEY HAVE ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR WITH FORD UPDATED SEALS. THE ISSUE THAT I AM DEALING WITH IS WHAT I BELIEVE IS A SERIOUS HEALTH RISK TO THE DRIVER OR PASSENGERS OF THIS VEHICLE. I ASK FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE IN THIS MATTER. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2010 EDGE LIMITED FOR A GIFT & THE NEXT DAY I NOTICED THE STRONG ODOR OF ANTIFREEZE COMING FROM THE HEATING SYSTEM. MY WIFE ALSO NOTICED THE SAME ODOR WHEN SHE DROVE IT CHRISTMAS DAY. SHE HAS TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER IT WAS PURCHASED FROM & THE LOCAL DEALER & BOTH SAY THEY CAN NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM. IT IS VERY NOTICEABLE WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD, THEN COMES & GOES THROUGH OUT THE DAY. BEING A MECHANIC FOR OVER 35 YEARS TELLS ME THE HEATER CORE AND OR RELATED COMPONENTS HAVE A VERY SMALL COOLANT LEAK. WE HAVE TO CRACK A WINDOW OR OPEN THE SUNROOF WHEN THE HEAT IS ON TO LET THE FUMES ESCAPE OR YOU CAN STAND TO BE IN THE CAR. *TR
