Engine check engine light come on and off. Transmission slipping in second gear. Took it to the local dealership for diagnostic. Was told that the torque convertor needed replacing. Had the convertor replaced but did not solve the problem.

The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle several times until the gear shifter responded as needed. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that an unknown part needed to be replaced; however, the part was discontinued. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 233,693.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the gear shifter seized and the vehicle was difficult to shift into gear. The contact stated that the gear shift indicator showed that the vehicle was in park(P) however, the transmission was in reverse(R). The contact also stated that the parking brake was inoperable. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed with a fractured shifter cable. The failure recurred recently and the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 144,000.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at 35 MPH, she heard an abnormal whining sound coming from the front of the vehicle and she noticed a strong abnormal odor. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact continued to drive the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the 4WD differential transfer unit had failed and was leaking fluid. The dealer advised the contact that the failure was unserviceable and the entire transfer unit needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under an unknown contract. The contact contacted other unknown dealers who also advised her the failure was unserviceable and the entire transfer unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 111,500.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle made an abnormal clanging sound, jerked, and hesitated to respond. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact also stated that the vehicle would fail to reverse upon placing the gear shifter reverse. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the failure was diagnosed as a defective transfer case. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that his VIN was not subjected to a recall for the transmission. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA for further assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
2010 FORD EDGE AWD TRANSFER CASE JUST FAILED 01/30/19 APPROX. 85,000 MILES. WE HAVE HAD ALL OIL SERVICE DONE AT FORD DEALER. THEY ADVERTISE THEY CHECK AND TOP OFF ALL FLUIDS I GUESS THEY MISSED A FEW. WE JUST HAD IT TO THE DEALER PRIOR TO OUR WARRANTY ENDING IN NOVEMBER 2018 FOR ENGINE OIL LEAK AND OTHER ITEMS TO BE REPAIRED. IF THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM THAT FORD HAS BEEN AWARE OF WHY WEREN'T THE DEALERS AT LEAST NOTIFIED TO INSPECT AND CHECK THE FLUID IN TRANSFER CASE. IS FORD GOING TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM OR LIKE EVERYONE ELSE AND MYSELF I WILL BE STUCK WITH A REPAIR BILL OF $2500.00 - $3500.00 THIS IS NOT WRIGHT FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS FOR QUITE SOME TIME.
FROM BOTH A STOP OR AFTER SLOWING DOWN AND UPON ACCILERATION, THE TRANSMISSION WILL SLIP AND THEN CATCH REAL HARD. IT DOES IT WHEN I START FROM A STOPPED POSITION AND IT ALSO DOES IT WHEN I SLOW DOWN FOR TRAFFIC ON THE FREEWAY THEN TRY TO GET BACK UP TO SPEED. WHEN IT CATCHES IT FEELS LIKE THE CAR HAS BEEN HIT HARD FROM THE REAR. THIS IS NOT DURING A FAST START OR FAST ACCILERATION, IT IS FROM JUST NORMAL DRIVING, KEEPING UP WITH NORMAL TRAFFIC. IT HAS HAPPENED ON MANY OCCASIONS AND IS NOT CONSISTANT WITH WHEN IT HAPPENS. IT HAPPENS ONLY WHEN THE CAR IS MOVING AND HAPPENS BOTH IN TOWN, ON HIGHWAYS AND FREEWAYS. IT HAS HAPPENED AT ALL SPEEDS AND IN ALL WEATHER. IT CAUSES A LOT OF FEAR AND I CAN SEE ME HITTING THE BRAKES SOMETIME WHICH COULD ACTUALLY CAUSE SOMEONE TO RUN INTO ME AS A RESULT. THIS IS NOT NORMAL AND WHEN I HAD IT CHECKED BY THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THE TRANSMISSION IS STARTING TO SLIP. THIS IS NOT A NORMAL SLIP OF THE TRANSMISSION, IT IS A COMPLETE LOSS OF OPERATION THEN CATCHING AND SLAMMING THE GEARS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO JUMP FORWARD. I AM CERTAIN THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS BEING DAMAGED WITH EACH OCCURRANCE. I WANT TO EMPHASIZE THAT THIS HAPPENS UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS, DRIVING SANELY, NOT HOT RODDING OR FAST ACCILERATION. IT IS JUST DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH NORMAL TRAFFIC. IT HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES AND I AM ALWAYS ON THE ALERT FOR IT SO IF IT STARTS I MIGHT BE ABLE TO TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS BEFORE IT WINDS UP TO HIGH TO MINIMIZE THE SLAMMING OF THE GEARS. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR WITH 105K MILES ON IT THE CAR HAS 245K NOW
ACCORDING TO A FORD DEALERSHIP THE PTU (POWER TRANSFER UNIT) ON MY EDGE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. PROBLEM IS THAT FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS FOR 10 YEARS. THIS ISSUE AFFECTS MODEL YEARS 2007 THROUGH 2017. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE FROM A RECALL PERSPECTIVE? I WAS ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE WITH THIS CONDITION. I BECAME AWARE OF THE ISSUE WHILE DRIVING AROUND TOWN AND ON THE EXPRESSWAY. SIGNIFICANT VIBRATION, GRINDING, AND HIGHER PITCH SOUND WHILE IN MOTION.
TOOK CAR IN JUST TO HAVE TIRES CHANGED AND AFTER I LEFT VEHICLE SMELLED LIKE SOMETHING WAS BURNING AS WELL AS A HOWLING NOISE WHEN I WENT UP THE HIGHWAY. ON TOP OF ALL THIS IT HAD A DRAG WHICH DAILY HAD GOTTEN WORSE. BROUGHT CAR BACK TO WHERE I HAD THE TIRES PUT ON AND THEY SAID THINGS DO GO WHEN YOU PUT SOMETHING NEW ON CAR. THEY CHECK THE CAR AND SAID I NEED INNER AND OUTER TIE RODS. THEY DO THE WORK, NEVER TEST DROVE THE CAR AND I LEAVE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I BRING IT BACK IMMEDIATELY AND NOW THEY SAY, "YOUR TRANNY IS WHINING SO TAKE IT TO A TRANSMISSION PLACE. MAYBE YOUR PUMP ISN'T WORKING IN TRANNY." I TAKE IT TO A TRANSMISSION PLACE AND THEY DIAGNOSE IT. THE POWER TRANSFER CASE IS SHOT!! CAN'T EVEN FIX IT, GEARS ARE ALL BURNT OUT ETC, NEEDS A NEW ONE TO THE TUNE OF $1900.00. THIS CAR JUST TURNED 70,000 MILES. I WENT ON COMPUTER AND COULDN'T BELIEVE THE INFO I GOT AS FAR AS THIS HAPPENING TO SO MANY PPL. SAME MAKE AND MODEL, SOME ONLY HAD 50,000 MILES ON THEIR CAR. UNBELIEVABLE, NO RECALL, AND FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM FOR AT LEAST 8 YRS.? THEY INSTALLED THIS CASE RIGHT NEXT TO EXHAUST WHICH GETS HOT AND EVAPORATES THE FLUID IN THIS CASE. FLUID THAT IS SUPPOSE TO BE FOREVER FOR THE LIFE OF THE CAR. NO PLUG IN THESE BOXES SO NO ONE...EVEN YOUR MECHANIC WOULDN'T BE CHECKING IT'S FLUID. ALL THESE COMPLAINTS, FORD KNOWS ABOUT THIS ISSUE BECAUSE THEY HAVE SINCE CHANGE THE POWER TRANSFER CASES AND EVERYONE WITH THESE VEHICLES ARE STUCK WITH AN OUTRAGEOUS BILL!!! WE NEED A CLASS ACTION SUIT STARTED OVER THIS WHICH I'LL BE CHECKING INTO. SHAME ON YOU FORD. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WAS NAMED ONE OF THE SAFEST TO DRIVE BUT I'LL TELL YA, NO MORE FORDS FOR ME!!!
CAR WILL NOT MOVE BEFORE IT WARMS UP IS THIS A PROBLEM. I PUT IT IN GEAR AND NOTHING HAPPENS
THE POWER TRANSMISSION UNIT (PTU) IS FAILING SINCE THERE'S NO DRAIN PLUG IN IT. SAME MODEL CAR IN POLICE DEPARTMENT AND MIDDLE EAST ASIA GET THE PTU WITH DRAIN PLUG AND A COOLING SYSTEM!
FORD EDGE IS HAVING A MULTI YEAR PROBLEM WITH THE AWD PTU (POWER TRANSFER UNIT)...FORD SAYS THAT THE FLUID IN THE PTU IS A LIFETIME FLUID, MEANING IT DOESN'T EVER HAVE TO BE CHANGED...IT DOES NOT EVEN HAVE A DRAIN PLUG...BUT IT IS INSTALLED VERY CLOSE TO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM, WHICH OVERHEATS THE FLUID EVERY TIME IT IS DRIVEN...EVENTUALLY THE FLUID TURNS TO A SOLID GREASE LIKE GUNK THAT WEARS DOWN THE GEARS AND BEARINGS AND MECHANICS SAY CAN EVEN LOCK UP THE DRIVE SYSTEM, CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. INSTEAD OF A $75 LUBE JOB TO REPLACE THE GEAR FLUID, REPLACING THE PTU COSTS ANYWHERE FROM $1500 TO SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS. MY FORD EDGE PTU JUST WENT BAD AND I'M NOW FINDING OUT THAT THOUSANDS OF EDGE OWNERS ARE BEING FACED WITH THIS DILEMMA ALSO...I STARTED TO HEAR THE GEARS GRINDING WHEN GOING INTO A TURN AND EVENTUALLY THERE WAS A CONSTANT GRINDING NOISE EVEN WHILE GOING FORWARD
HEARING A "COINS IN A CAN " SOUND COMING FROM THE CAR AS YOU ARE DRIVING IT. FOUND OUT IT TO BE THE POWER TRANSFER UNIT. IN DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THIS, IT LOOKS LIKE THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE COMPLAINED AND REPORTED THIS SAME ISSUE. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THERE WASN'T A RECALL CREATED FOR THIS ISSUE AND REPLACEMENT AS THIS IS A COSTLY $2000 PART. NOT COST EFFECTIVE FOR OUR CARS THAT ARE OLDER AND AREN'T WORTH BUT $5000 MAYBE.
WHEN PULLING AWAY FROM A DEAD STOP ,THE TRANSMISSION WILL OCCASIONALLY NOT ENGAGE WHICH FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING INTO A "NEUTRAL" FEELING AND THEN WILL BANG INTO GEAR . IT ALSO FEELS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION WILL SLIP OUT GEAR AND THEN REENGAGE WHILE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. LAST THE ACCELERATION IS NOT THERE WHEN MERGING INTO HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR JUST ACCELERATING ,THE GAS PEDDLE IS PUSHED BUT THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE CAUSING A RISKY SITUATION WHEN TRAFFIC IS BEARING DOWN ON YOU AND YOU CAN NOT GET SAFELY UP TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2010 FORD EDGE. WHILE STATIONARY, THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE REVERSE POSITION AND THE KEYS WERE REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS INTO A POND. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED FROM THE POND TO THE CONTACT'S DRIVEWAY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000.
POWER TRANSFER UNIT IS LEAKING. I SEE THROUGH RESEARCH AND TALKING WITH DEALERS THEY REPLACE A LOT OF THESE PTU'S. REPLACEMENT WITH PARTS AND LABOR IS $1,800.
DEC 17,2016 A SEVERE JERKING WHILE DRIVING ON A VILLAGE MAIN ST. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I STOPPED CAR, GOT CAR MANUAL, SAW THAT IT WAS POWER TRAIN PROBLEM. I BEGAN GOOGLING AND WILL SEE MY MECHANIC ON MONDAY. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED ABOUT 3WKS AGO I LOST DRIVING POWER AND DROVE MY WIFE TO WORK ON IDLE POWER. WHEN I GOT HOME I SHUT OFF CAR AND STARTED AGAIN AND IT WORKED OK (EXCEPT FOR MILD JERKING) UNTIL NOW (3WKS LATER). MY MECHANIC SAID (AFTER 1ST INCIDENT) THAT IT WAS A THROTTLE PROBLEM, ALTHOUGH HE FOUND NO CODE ERROR. MY WIFE AND I LOVE THIS CAR AND SO DO OUR LITTLE NIECE AND NEPHEW, BUT IT IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. WE JUST GOT BACK FROM TEXAS (4000 MI) BEFORE ALL THIS HAPPENED AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. MY NEXT STEP WILL BE TO WRITE TO OUR AUTHORITIES BECAUSE THIS SEEMS TO BE A DANGEROUS NATIONAL PROBLEM. ALL THOSE AFFECTED SHOULD DO THE SAME.

CAR HAS HAD A "DRAGGING" FEELING. HAS BEEN MAKING INTERMITTENT NOISE BUT UNABLE TO IDENTIFY PROBLEM. FINALLY HAD A DIAGNOSIS OF PTU FAILURE TO THE TUNE OF $2000.00. MY LAST "MADE IN USA" CAR. HERE I COME HONDA.
I WAS DRIVING UP HILL AT 40MPH, I FIRST NOTICED MY RPMS DROPPING, THEN MY SPEED. CAME HOME AND CALLED DEALERSHIP, AS MY VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY, CAR WAS TOWED TO FAIRFIELD FORD. THEY CALLED LATER TO TELL ME IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY AND HE TOOK IT APART AND CLEANED IT. HE SAID AT THIS TIME, IT WAS FINE. OF COURSE, THIS WAS THE ONE THING NOT COVERED BY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. WITHIN 2 WEEKS, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. IT WAS INTERMITTENT. SO I HAD MY MECHANIC REPLACE THE PART. *TR
FOUND A TRANSMISSION LEAK ON THE FLOOR OF GARAGE. TOOK TO LOCAL TRANSMISSION MECHANIC WHERE HE DETERMINED THAT THE POWER TRANSFER UNIT REQUIRED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER A REVIEW OF THE INTERNET, FOUND THIS TO BE A PROBLEMATIC ISSUE WITH THE FORD EDGE. COMMUNICATED WITH FORD, HOWEVER NO ASSISTANCE ON MY $1,569.91 COST WAS PROVIDED ...UPDATED 03/31/15 *BF *TR
VEHICLE DEVELOPED A CLANKING / CLUNKING SOUND. FELT LIKE IT WAS DRAGGING SOMETHING VERY HEAVY, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFT POINTS SEEMED TO BE DELAYED AND SHIFTING TO A HIGHER GEAR HAPPENED AT A VERY HIGH RPM. STOPPED VEHICLE AND TURNED IT OFF. NOISES WENT AWAY AFTER RESTARTING, BUT ACCELERATION WAS VERY SLUGGISH AND IT DIDN'T SHIFT TO A HIGHER GEAR UNTIL A VERY HIGH RPM, THE GAS PEDAL HAD TO BE PUSHED TO THE FLOOR. TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP AND IT WAS TEST DRIVEN AND PUT ON THE LIFT. CHECKED FOR ANY MALFUNCTION CODES. THE MECHANIC COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF VEHICLE. THE FORCE CAUSED THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE TO ABNORMALLY ACCELERATE APPROXIMATELY ONE-HALF A MILE AND CRASH INTO THE REAR OF A THIRD VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PARK ON A STEEP INCLINE IN SAN FRANCISCO ON A RAINY DAY, BECAUSE I WAS AWARE THAT MY VEHICLE TENDS TO ROLL BACKWARDS UPON RELEASING THE BRAKE (EVEN WHEN IN DRIVE), I DECIDED TO NOT PARK IN THAT SPOT AND WAS VERY CAREFUL TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE AND GUN THE GAS SO THE CAR WOULD MOVE FORWARD AND NOT ROLL BACK INTO ANYTHING BEHIND ME. I HAD SUCCESSFULLY USED THIS TECHNIQUE BEFORE, BUT THIS TIME GUNNING THE GAS STILL RESULTED IN MY ROLLING BACKWARDS AND CAUSED A COLLISION. AFTER THE COLLISION, REAPPLYING THE GAS MADE THE CAR MOVE FORWARD, BUT NOW THE DAMAGE WAS DONE. I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS IS A GEAR SELECTOR PROBLEM, AN ISSUE WITH THE CAR IN THE GREAT DEAL IT ROLLS BACK ON HILLS, OR A COMBINATION OF BOTH, BUT THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE AND WAS NOT BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION WHEN PURCHASING THE VEHICLE OR IN ANY OF THE SAFETY INFORMATION WE READ TO DATE ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THE HILLY ENVIRONMENT IN THE BAY AREA. IF THE VEHICLE HAD A MANUAL 4WD SELECTOR LIKE MY OLD FORD RANGER DID, SWITCHING THIS ON WOULD RESOLVE THIS ISSUE ON HILLS, AND ALLOWING IT TO BE SHUT OFF DURING NORMAL DRIVES WOULD STILL RESERVE THE FUEL ECONOMY THAT FORD WAS GOING FOR WITH THIS MODEL. *TR
MY FORD EDGE 2010 HAS ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THE CAR NOW HAS 76,000 MILES BUT ABOUT EVERY 20,000 MILES I HAVE A VIOLENT TRANSMISSION SHIFT. IT IS EITHER THE TRANSMISSION OR THE ALL WHEEL DRIVE CONTROLS. THE CAR WILL BE GOING ALONG AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE IS A LOUD NOISE AND JERKING BACK AND FORTH FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE TRANNY IS FALLING OUT OR HAS ROCKS IN IT. I TOOK IT TO FORD MANY TIMES AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT ALL THEY DO IS UPDATE THE SOFTWARE ( AND CHARGE ME). THEY KEEP SAYING THERE IS A FIX FOR THE ISSUE IN THE SOFTWARE BUT IT DOESN'T FIX THE ISSUE. THEY GAVE ME AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER BECAUSE THEY DON'T CARE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. I ASKED WHY THEY DON'T PULL THE TRANNY PAN IN LOOK FOR LOOSE METAL OR ISSUES AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE TO CHARGE ME. THE DEALER TOLD ME THEY HAVE TO PAY THERE OWN GUYS TO LOOK FOR THE PROBLEM AND THEY DON'T GET REIMBURSED BY FORD FOR THIS SO THEY AREN'T GOING TO DO ANYTHING EXCEPT PUT A RECORDER ON MY CAR FOR 30 DAYS AGAIN. I TOLD THEM IT IS INTERMITTENT. THEY OFFERED TO SELL ME A NEW CAR OR FIND ANOTHER EDGE WITH 76,000 AND PUT ME IN THAT. I TOLD THEM I DIDN'T WANT TO SPEND MONEY ON ANOTHER CAR BECAUSE I JUST SPENT 34,000 ON THIS ONE AND GIVING ME ANOTHER EDGE THE SAME AGE I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT PROBLEMS I COULD HAVE WITH THAT. IN OTHER WORDS FORD ISN'T WORRIED ABOUT MY ISSUE UNTIL SOMEONE GETS HURT. THE WARRANTY DOESN'T MEAN A THING TO THEM.
