Chronological view of owner reports
I was driving my Ford Edge at approximately 35 mph. As I approached a stoplight, I depressed the brake pedal and it immediately went all the way to the floor with almost no braking action. I was able to get some braking by pumping the brakes continually, avoiding an accident at the light. As a local Pep Boys store had replaced the brake pads about 5 weeks earlier, I chose to slowly and carefully drive the car to their location. The brakes continued to require pumping for any braking action. At Pep Boys, I turned off the vehicle and went inside. They phoned me a few hours later to say that they found that the brakes worked fine. They found no fluid leaks, the master cylinder was full, and they could not duplicate any problem. I did a little research on the internet and found two reports of similar incidents at https://www.vehiclehistory.com/articles/ford-edge-master-cylinder-recalls-a-deeper-dive. The two excerpts read: "Brake Pedals Travel to the Floor "One Ford Edge owner reported that the vehicle suddenly lost braking power. The brake pedal pushed all the way to the floor, and they nearly were involved in a collision. After stopping the vehicle and turning it back on, the brakes began to work normally. "In another consumer complaint, the same issue happened. An independent repair shop reinstalled the master cylinder and manually bled the brake lines to fix the issue." I made an appointment with All American Ford in Old Bridge, NJ and dropped my car there on August 16, 2022. I was notified on August 20 that they could find nothing wrong with the vehicle. There was no warning nor prior symptoms of the brake failure. The brakes have continued to work since I turned the vehicle off at Pep Boys. No warning lamps or messages concerning the failure were displayed. I did come across similar failure reports for Edges that claimed the root cause was a combination of master cylinder, brake power booster and electronic brake control module, but my dealer was unaware.
2014 Edge, The Vehicle won't stop on time, Brake pedal becomes very hard to press and vehicle will continue to roll out into the street. I've heard a beep at 3 different times, brake pedal will then go to the floor, but continues to roll, My child my family is in grave dander while in vehicle. This is a recall if every I've seen one... [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Pressing the brake while parking the car and later driving it on the road. Happened all of a sudden. Loss of break pressure when I put my foot on break peddle to stop. My foot went to the floor! No warning on dash, no idiot light, nothing.
Brake petal sinking to the floor. Brakes have been changed and caliper changed as well.
Brake pedal became very hard to press down, severely limiting the ability to stop the vehicle. The brake booster is available for inspection. It appears that there was a recall for 2009-2013 models but not for the 2014. My car was built and assembled in December of 2013 at the same plant installed the defective boosters. There were no warning lights or indication of a problem. The brake booster has been replaced by a reputable shop.
The contact's mother owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while the brake pedal was depressed, the brake pedal was traveling to the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was unaware if there was a diagnostic test performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undetermined speed, the brake pedal was depressed however, the pedal was hard to depress to the floorboard. Additionally, while starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal squealing sound detected. While driving up hill with the cruise control engaged, the brake pedal was hard to depress and the cruise control failed to disengage. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 128,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE AND WAS DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT RELATED THE FAILURE TO AN UNKNOWN RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 105,000.
Brake Booster issue. Brake pedal feels spongy/soft when trying to stop. Vehicle makes a whirring/hissing noise when letting off the brake pedal. The car feels like it won't stop in time for a stop sign or stop light while going as slow as 25 mph. There is an extended warranty on this make/model, but Ford refuses to honor it and fix it. I have a vehicle with less than 65,000 miles that is undriveable. No warning lights came on the dashboard at all. The brakes got spongy out of no where. No warning. Ford has confirmed the issue. No accidents in the vehicle because I refuse to drive it now.
MY BRAKES MAKE A HISSING SOUND AND IT'S VERY HARD TO BRAKE. THE BRAKE PEDAL HARDLY MOVES WHEN I GO TO USE THE BRAKES.
HARD BREAK WHEN BREAKING, HAVE TO STEP ON BREAK WITH FULL FORCE IN A LONG DISTANCE TO GET A STOP.
WHILE EXITING A PARKING LOT INTO THE MAIN THOROUGHFARE THE BRAKES SUDDENLY BECAME HARD AND UNRESPONSIVE. ADDITIONALLY WE HAVE NOTED A SQUEALING AND HISSING SOUND COMING FROM THE BRAKES WHEN THE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. WE TOOK THE CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND DETERMINED THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE BRAKE BOOSTER SYSTEM. RESEARCH SHOWED THE FORD HAD ISSUED A SAFETY NOTICE (13N02) AND EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE FORD EDGE AND THE LINCOLE MKX VEHICLES FOR THE MODEL YEARS 2010 - 2013. I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND REQUESTED THAT THE SAFETY NOTICE BE EXTENDED TO COVER 2014 AS WELL AS IT IS APPARENT THE ISSUE IS ONGOING AND NOT ISOLATED TO THE MODEL YEARS CURRENTLY COVERED. FORD HAS DECLINED TO COVER THE ISSUE.
30 DAYS AGO THE TRANSMISSION HAD TROUBLE GOING INTO PARK, HAS GOTTEN WORSE, IS NOW PARKED IN GARAGE WITH BLOCK OF WOOD BEHIND WHEELS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EDGE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS LOW SPEEDS, THE ABS FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME STUCK TO THE FLOORBOARD ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHILE ATTEMPTING TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. VELDE FORD (488 US-1, VERO BEACH, FLORIDA 32962, (772) 569-3400) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE VIA TELEPHONE AND STATED THAT EITHER THE MASTER CYLINDER, THE BRAKE BOOSTER, OR THE BRAKE MODULE MAY HAVE BEEN FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FORMALLY DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000.
WITH SLIGHTLY OVER 70,000 MILES ON MY 2014 FORD EDGE THE BRAKE BOOSTER IS BAD AND I AM HAVING TO REPLACE IT.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON A CITY STREET CAME TO A STOP LIGHT WENT TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT FELT LIKE THE VEHICLE HAD NO BRAKES AND WAS NOT STOPPING. PUSHED THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE FINALLY CAME TO A STOP. THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT EXTREMELY HARD TO PUSH TO GET THE BRAKES TO STOP THE VEHICLE. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY FOUND THE BRAKE BOOSTER FAILED. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 33,874 MILES CURRENTLY ON IT.
BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT 20,239 MILES. LESS THAN 2 YEARS LATER THE REPLACEMENT BRAKE BOOSTER FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 42,480 MILES. IT SEEMS EVERY 2 YEARS OR 20,000 MILES THE BRAKE BOOSTER FAILS. FORTUNATELY WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED, IT WAS RIGHT AFTER START UP AND BACKING OUT OF PARKING SPACES. THE PEDAL BECAME STIFF WITH NO STOPPING POWER. I HAD THE BOOSTER REPLACED IN BOTH INSTANCES IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE FIRST SYMPTOMS OF FAILURE OCCURRED. FORTUNATELY THE FAILURES DID NOT OCCUR WHILE ON CITY STREETS OR HIGHWAYS. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2011 THRU 2013 FORD EDGE MODELS. YOU MAY CONSIDER INCLUDING THE 2014 EDGE FOR A RECALL AS WELL.
BOUGHT THE 2014 FORD EDGE BRAND NEW. IN MARCH 2015. (JANUARY 23, 2017) @ 21680 MILES: HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR BRAKE PADS/ROTORS AND SERVICED CALIPERS (PARTS & LABOR COST: $385.05). (APRIL 2, 2018) @ 32000 MILES: HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKE PADS/ROTORS AND SERVICED CALIPERS (PARTS/LABOR COST: $400). MY DEALER SAYS "IT'S DUE TO THE HARSH CENTRAL NEW YORK WINTERS AND ITS NORMAL WEAR & TEAR;THEREFORE NOT COVERED UNDER THE 3 YR 36 MONTH WARRANTY". I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY BOTH REAR AND FRONT BRAKES SYSTEMS HAVE HAD PROBLEMS AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I WOULD AT LEAST EXPECT THE BRAKE SYSTEM TO PERFORM AT EXCEPTIONAL LEVEL GREATER THAN THE MY MILES DRIVEN TO DATE OF 32000 MILES. IN THE PAST, I HAVE DRIVEN TOYOTA'S AND JEEP'S AND NEVER EXPERIENCED BRAKE ISSUES AND/OR REPAIRS IN LESS THAN 45000 MILES. FORD SHOULD REALLY PAY MORE ATTENTION TO THE QUALITY OR THEIR PRODUCT AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL AS THE "BRAKING SYSTEM" STINKS AND IS UNACCEPTABLE.
AT 60,000 MILES MY 2014 FORD EDGE MASTER CYLINDER FAILED WHILE DRIVING AT AROUND 10 MPH ON MY STREET AS I WAS GETTING READY TO PARK WHICH EFFECTED BRAKING. THIS CAUSED ME TO HIT THE HIGH CONCRETE CURB IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE AND MESS UP MY FRONT BUMPER. I ENDED UP HAVING TO PULL THE LOWER BUMPER COVER OFF TO KEEP IT FROM DRAGGING THE GROUND. THE MASTER DOESN'T COMPLETELY FAIL THOUGH, IT WORKS FOR ABOUT A DOZEN STOPS AND THEN THE PEDAL GETS SOFT FOR ONE STOP. UPON CALLING FORD THIS IS ONE OF THE VIN NUMBERS THAT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THERE ARE SO MANY FAILURES OF THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND MASTER CYLINDER WITH A LOT OF FORD MODELS THAT HAVE THE SAME ENGINE, BUT I'M SUPPOSE TO BELIEVE THEY GOT THE PROBLEM FIXED BEFORE MY VEHICLES...I HAVE A FEELING THAT AS VEHICLES START TO HIT THE SAME MILEAGE AROUND MY YEAR THERE WILL BE A LOT MORE OF THESE ISSUES POPPING UP.
WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT APROX 50MPH MY CAR RAN OUT OF BRAKES COMPLETELY. THE CAR, A 2014 EDGE, IS AROUND 56000MILES WITH ALL SERVICES UPTODATED PERFORMED BY A FORD DEALER. IN THE LATEST SERVICE THE CHANGE THE REAR BRAKE PADS
WHEN THE VEHICLE SITS OVERNIGHT IN THE GARAGE AND I FIRST BACK OUT THE REAR BRAKES MAKE A GRINDING NOISE LIKE THE PADS ARE STICKING. WHEN I START FORWARD IN DRIVE IT STOPS. THE REAR ROTORS ARE BEING GROOVED WITH THIS MARKS. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 23,000 MILES ON IT. WHEN I CONTACTED FORD I WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKES ARE ONLY COVERED FOR 12 MONTHS OR 12,000 MILES
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EDGE. WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH, THE BRAKES AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. MA 07/30/15 UPDATED 10/19/2017*CN
