On January 25, 2026, my 2016 Ford Edge experienced a catastrophic brake system failure corresponding to NHTSA Safety Recall 25V-544. The front brake jounce hose ruptured at the crimp, resulting in the immediate and total loss of brake fluid and zero braking pressure. The vehicle is effectively without brakes and is unsafe to operate. I attempted to schedule service with the authorized dealer (Pat Armstrong Ford in Wenatchee, WA). The dealer refused to intake the vehicle or authorize a safety rental/loaner, citing that "no remedy is currently available" from Ford Motor Company. I am currently stranded with a vehicle that has actively failed due to the safety defect described in the recall. The manufacturer's inability to provide a timely remedy, combined with the dealership's refusal to provide alternate transportation for a "Vehicle Off Road" (VOR) condition, presents an immediate safety risk. I have attached photos verifying the ruptured hose and fluid saturation.

This issue is one that was made a recall already as of recent, I had gotten my brake lines flushed and refilled and filled to correct amount and yet soon after or not to too long after I had the issue with breaking, I thought it was my brake pads but it indeed was not when I got home and the engine cooled down I checked the brake fluid reservoir and it had been almost empty, I added more and filled it again and since then it hasn’t been a problem again, but when it was a problem, I was going highway speeds when I then felt the car was off on the braking I was actually concerned if I was going to be able to stop in time especially when i was hitting the exit ramp. It no longer has been an issue since I refilled the reservoir but i don’t know if it’ll happen again or not and when and where I’ll be next time it happens. Since I now know it’s a recall and it wasn’t just a one off with just my car I am now reporting this.

My brake pressure dropped rapidly and the ABS and brake system warnings lit up. I added brake fluid and it leaked out from the rear passenger side brake line. Took car to dealer and they confirmed a recall on the brake lines and replaced the lines. I was responsible for the repair cost and the dealer was not able to process reimbursement until unknown date of Ford completing recall instructions.

The front brake hose ruptured and the brakes went out. This is consistent with the recall NHTSA Campaign # 20V469000. Ford dealer is refusing to fix it saying only the rear hose is covered. But it clearly states in the recall released on Aug 2020 it is the Front hose.

For the 3rd time in 9 years, my car's brakes stopped working. Submitted complaint to NHTSA back in 2020 the 2nd time it happened (the 1st time under warranty). In January 2025 left work to drive 17 miles home, only to find that the minute I drove into traffic my brakes weren't working again, straight to the floor! Drove 20 minutes to nearest dealer in traffic with hazards on while consistently pulling the emergency brake - it was an awful experience! Next day they say brake hoses were broken and fluid was EVERYWHERE! I heard one employee tell another, "What is going on with these cars and their brake hoses?" This time I had to pay over $1,000 to get it fixed. I'm warning everyone I know NOT to buy this car! My 3 experiences have been so horrid that it absolutely has made me realize that Ford is just not for me or my family!

Wife picking up grandkids from school called to say brake pedal had been going to the floor. Told her not to move it. As I pulled up behind the car noticed the R/R ground was wet. Master cylinder was low on fluid. Had towed to private shop. Diagnosed as R/R brake hose leaking. The hose wasn't damaged but was leaking where the fittings are attached to the hose. Shop said it's a manufacture's defect.

A recall was performed on 01-17-23 at roughly 54,000miles by Krause Ford Woodstock, GA – Brake lines were replaced. The passenger rear rubber hose has already failed where the hose is crimped at the fitting by the steel hose that comes from the master cylinder. Driver almost crashed due to not being able to stop in a normal distance due to the pedal going to the floor and the brake system failing due to no fluid pressure to the brakes. The passenger side rear brake hose is leaking severely, causing soft breaks. Making it very difficult to stop. This happened suddenly and did not experience any issues prior to the hose starting to leak. It will be towed to Ford for inspection and repair. We had no warning lamps or messages prior to the hose leaking.

Back left break line suddenly ruptured causing immediate inability to use breaks. I was parked and went to apply the breaks before putting the vehicle into drive when I noticed the break pedal went to the floor. I slowly moved the vehicle to a parking place and the brake fluid light came on and I was hardly able to stop. There is a recall for the front break lines but not the back lines.

Brakes failed and car rolled forward while stopped at a traffic light because of right rear brake line failure. This is the THIRD brake line failure on this vehicle. The first two were left and right front hoses, which ended up being subject of a recall, but only after I had mine fail and repaired. To this date, Ford has refused to reimburse me for those repairs.

I have issue with brake hoses rupture while driving and loose brake capability (as Ford did not include all VINs affected I had to paid for repair, now they issue Customer Satisfaction Program 22N02 and they do not want to refund). NHTSA must make sure Ford is responsible for their issues on a safety topic as they are clearly not being.

In September/October of 2022 my passenger side right real break line ruptured. Not even a month later my front right brake line ruptured. Today my left rear brake line ruptured. All 3 times my pedal went to the floor, making it dangerously difficult to actually stop my car endangering my life and the lives of those around me on the road. No light has come on to indicate there's a problem with my braking system, any of the 3 times that this has occurred.

A 3nd flexible brake line blew out and I lost my brakes for the 3nd time on this vehicle. The first two lines that blew out were both left and right front. This 3rd one was in the rear and as a result I instructed my mechanic to replace both rear lines. Again and luckily no one was injured or crash occurred as a result of this failure which put my wife and I at a great risk. We were able to slowly and carefully bring the car to our mechanic immediately thus no tow was required. No police or first responders were needed. There was no indication of failure until the brake pedal went immediately all the way to the floor. This is my third filing report and the story is the same for the prior cases of 11512958 and 11512963.

The electronic emergency/parking brake has failed/malfunctioned. After searching online, I discovered that other people have the same issue. As I recall, at least one of the posters said that a Ford technician told them that the wiring harness was made too short and the wires rub on the frame and fray causing an electrical short which renders the emergency brake useless. This appears to be a manufacturer's defect, in my opinion.

Driving home after dropping my kids off to school slowing down for a red light, all of a sudden the brake pedal goes limp, car barely responds afterwards... I start pumping the pedal like crazy and yanking the E brake lever and barely stop before hitting someone... Car has been in the dealership (North Central Ford in Richardson, TX) 2 or 3 times since 2020; one for a transmission bushing recall I believe, and brake line was NEVER mentioned. They showed each instance for service in their system to me on their monitor, and showed that it never appeared to the service techs for them to inform me of the recall. They said they didn't know why it wouldn't show up. Ford really dropped the ball here, the only thing that saved me was quick thinking on the e-brake.

May 2022

My brakes began leaking. I noticed this when the pedal sank to the floor during a prolonged deceleration and I had to pump the brakes to successfully stop the car. No warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms appeared prior to the soft brake pedal. I took the vehicle to a local dealer (Priority Ford in Norfolk VA, see invoice for phone and address), who diagnosed it as leaking rear brake lines and replaced two lines. My safety and the safety of others was certainly put at risk. The reason I knew how to recognize and respond to the brake leak was that it has happened to me before -- my 2016 Ford Edge had a front brake line fail earlier, prior to Ford issuing a safety recall for front brake line leaks. Now my rear brake lines have failed... I suspect it warrants a similar safety recall.
