TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE BECAME EXTREMELY HOT, THE ENGINE STALLED, AND AN UNKNOWN WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE JOLTED WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V256000 (HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 141,418.

HAVE TRIED AND CALLED FORD DEALERS MECHANICS I FOUND OUT YESTERDAY TECH BULLETIN ISSUED PLUGS COILS NEW COMPUTER COST OVER 2700. DEFECTIVE ENGINE MOUNTS RATTLE FORD NEW IN 2005 COILS WOULD BURN OUT COMPUTER. NEVER ISSUED RECALL OR WARRANTY. CAR IS JUNK STILL PAYING CALLED FORD TOOK INFO. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WOK AT 10:15PM WHEN THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER. THEY DETERMINED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE PCM AND COILS. A FAMILY MEMBER HAD HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH HER 2005 FORD ESCAPE. I CHECKED WITH THE DEALER TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOT. HOWER,INFORMATION ON CARCOMPLAINTS.COM STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED IN OCTOBER, 2014. I WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL. UPON CALLING FORD, I WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL, AND THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY, AND I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE TOTAL COST OF THE REPAIR WAS OVER $2,00,WHICH I FEEL I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR. HOW CAN FORD PICK AND CHOOSE WHICH VEHICLES THEY WILL REPAIR? EVIDENTLY SAFETY IS OF NO CONCERN TO THEM.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE RED TRIANGLE CAME ON AND THE LCD READ HIGH TEMPERATURE WARNING. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND THE ENGINE WASN'T HOT AND THERE WAS PLENTY OF COOLANT FOR THE RADIATOR IN THE RESERVOIR. STARTED VEHICLE AFTER 5 MIN AND DROVE HOME.

WHILE DRIVING, RECEIVED A "STOP SAFELY NOW" WARNING LIGHT AND THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. SECOND TIME IN THREE WEEKS SUCH INCIDENT OCCURRED AND THIS IS AFTER SUPPOSED "SAFETY RECALL" WORK DONE ON THE VEHICLE A FEW MONTHS BACK. PREVIOUS TO THE RECALL, THE CAR ACTUALLY SHUTDOWN NUMEROUS TIMES WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGH RATES OF SPEED ON MAJOR INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS. AFTER THE LIGHT COMES ON, THE GAS PEDAL IS NO LONGER RESPONSIVE AND YOU HAVE TO HOPE YOU CAN COAST OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ONCE YOU STOP SAFELY AND TURN OFF THE CAR, AFTER WAITING 5-10 MINUTES, THE CAR USUALLY COMES BACK ON, WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE IT IS DUE TO SOME SORT OF OVERTEMP CONDITION.

ON TWO OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING THE CAR HAS STALLED. DURING STOPS AT RED LIGHTS-IF I DO NOT HOLD BRAKE AND HIT GAS SIMULTANEOUSLY THE CAR STALLS. IT HAS CUT OFF TWICE WHEN I FAILED TO DO THIS. ALSO, WHILE DRIVING IT LOSES GAS WHILE PRESSING GAS FOR SEVERAL SECONDS THEN SPEEDS UP HASTILY WHERE I WOULD RUN INTO ANOTHER CAR IF I DON'T QUICKLY SLAM BRAKES. HAPPENED END OF JULY AND IN AUGUST 2015. ALSO, HAD OIL CHANGE AT FORD DEALER AND THEY REPORTED NOTHING WRONG.

I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANICS AND THEY FIXED ONE OF THE COILS. IT STILL DID THE SAME THING AFTER I GOT IT BACK[ SPUTTERING]. I WENT TO WAL-MART AND COMING BACK IT CUT OFF ON ME. LUCKILY I WAS AT A STOP, BUT IFI HAD OF BEEN GOING AT FULL SPEED IT WOULD HAVE HURT ME AND MY SEVEN YEAR OLD BECAUSE SINCE IT HAS POWER STEERING, WHEN IT CUT OFF THE STEERING WHEEL GOES STIFF. THE CAR WOULD NOT RUN GOT IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP. TOLD ME IT WAS THE PCM, 6 COILS AND SPARK PLUGS ALL NEEDED TO BE REPLACE ($2K TO FIX). I CALLED FORD THEY SEEM TO KNOW ABOUT THIS ISSUE. TOLD ME EVEN THOUGH THE CAR IS AN 05 IT WAS MADE IN 04 SO THEY COULD NOT HELP. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A PROGRAM TO FIX THIS ISSUE HAD TO BE WITHIN 8 YEARS AND 80K MILES. BAD SPARK PLUGS ARE TO BLAME. I DISAGREED 05 TO 2013 IS 8 YEARS, THEY SAY NO BECAUSE IT WAS MADE 10/14/04 SO IT WOULD PUT ME AT 9 YEARS 71K MILES. I ARGUED IT WAS SOLD IN 05 AND THAT IS WHAT THEY SHOULD GO BY, THEY DISAGREED. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ONLINE SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THE SAME YEAR MAKE AND VEHICLE. *TR

MY SON WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND IT STARTED TO SPUTTER. DID THE SAME THING THE NEXT TIME IT WAS DRIVEN AND HAS EVER SINCE. I HAD IT TO TWO MECHANICS WHICH SAID THAT THE #4 WAS MISFIRING AND START COIL PROBLEM. REPLACED.. NOT WORKING STILL. HAVE TALKED TO TWO DEALERSHIPS ABOUT IT ONE TOLD ME TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THEM. GOING TO ONE CLOSER SO THAT I CAN TALK TO THEM. BOTH SAY THERE IS A PROBLEM. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ FORD COMPANY HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL TO FIX IT. NOT SURE IF I WILL BE ABLE TO AFFORD IT. I PREFER FORD BUT MAY HAVE TO GO WITH A DIFFERENT FORD VEHICLE. WE HAVE HAD EVERYTHING ELSE BUT THERE IS NOTHING LIKE A FORD. OUR LAST FORD TRUCK WAS A 93 AND WE JUST GOT RID OF IT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO STILL RUNNING. I DO NOT WANT TO GIVE UP ON MY FORDS. *TR
