ENGINE TURNS OFF WHEN DRIVING. THIS HAPPENS AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS IN VARYING CONDITIONS; IE. DRIVING SLOW, DRIVING FAST, ON THE HIGHWAY ON SIDE STREETS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED ACCELERATING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED AS PART OF A MANUFACTURER CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM. APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
I WAS DRIVING HOME ON A 6 LANE HIGHWAY YESTERDAY AFTER WORK. POSTED SPEED LIMIT 65 MPH. MY CRUISE CONTROL WAS SET AT 65, I WAS IN A CENTER LANE WHEN MY VEHICLE MADE A LOUD CLUNK AND THE CRUISE CONTROL CUT OFF AND I STARTED LOSING POWER TO THE CAR.THE ENGINE WAS ON BUT PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL DID NOTHING. I WAS TRYING TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY WITH CARS SPEEDING AND SWERVING ALL AROUND ME. I WAS PETRIFIED. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THE CAR WAS TAKEN FOR SERVICE TODAY. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR AND IT WAS ON AN EXTENDED WARRANTY SO I DID NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. THE RECEIPT CLEARLY STATES THIS IS RECALL NOTICE 13N03. I HAVE NOW READ ABOUT THIS ONLINE AND YOU GUYS ARE LETTING FORD CALL THIS A "CUSTOMER SERVICE SATISFACTION PROGRAM". WELL, YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE KILLED. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR NOT NOTIFYING CUSTOMERS OF A DEFAULT WITH A VEHICLE THAT ENDANGERS PEOPLE. I NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER AND I COULD OF DIED YESTERDAY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND GOING AROUND A WINDING PART OF THE ROAD. I WAS COASTING DUE TO THE MULTIPLE CONSECUTIVE TURNS WHEN MY CAR SHUT OFF WHILE GOING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH. LUCKILY TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AND I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND RESTART MY CAR WHILE COASTING. SINCE THIS EVENT IT HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 30 TIMES, ALWAYS AROUND LOW OR IDLE SPEEDS AND MORE OFTEN AFTER RUNNING LONGER. I PURCHASED THIS CAR SECOND HAND IN MARCH OF 2015. I HAVE NEVER HAD SUCH A FRUSTRATING PROBLEM OR UNSAFE FEELING WITH OR WHILE DRIVING A VEHICLE.

SLOWING TO STOP AT STOP LIGHT IN LINE OF TRAFFIC ON 10/6/2014, LIGHT TURNED GREEN, TRAFFIC MOVING, ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE, FOUND CAR UNABLE TO DO SO, LOOKED AT DASH, SOME LIGHTS WERE ON (REMEMBER BATTERY LIGHT,CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND POSSIBLE OIL LIGHT), BUT AS I WAS IN TRAFFIC, I WAS IN A BIT OF A PANIC, I PUT CAR IN PARK AND TURNED KEY. CAR STARTED UP AND WAS ABLE TO RUN NORMALLY. ON 10/10/14 IN TRAFFIC DRIVING AT 25 MILES AN HOUR SLOWING TO ADJUST TO TRAFFIC, AS ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED TO MAINTAIN THIS SPEED AND KEEP UP WITH TRAFFIC, CAR DOES NOT ACCELERATE AS GAS IS PRESSED, LOOK DOWN AT DASH, LIGHTS ARE ON, REMEMBER BATTERY LIGHT, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, ANOTHER ONE, POSSIBLE OIL, I WAS ABLE TO STEER CAR OFF ROAD INTO PARKING LOT. STOPPED CAR, PUT IN PARK RESTARTED AND AGAIN WAS ABLE TO RUN NORMALLY. **THIS SAME THING HAPPENED ABOUT A YEAR AGO, WAS SLOWLY DRIVING INTO THE DRIVEWAY AT WORK, AND THE CAR JUST WOULDN'T GO.... I STOPPED, PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTARTED IT, AND HAVE NOT HAD THIS PROBLEM AGAIN UNTIL NOW. AT THAT TIME, I HAD THE BATTERY CHECKED AND BATTERY WAS FINE. WAS ACCELERATING WHEN THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO SHUT OFF. VEHICLE RESTARTED AND ABOUT A MONTH LATER DID IT AGAIN PULLING AWAY FROM AN INTERSECTION. DEALER CONFIRMED IT WAS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY AND CHARGED 100 DOLLARS TO FIX. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON A 4 LINE HIGHWAY IN THE PASSING LANE. MY CAR LOST POWER AND THE GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT WORK. I HAD TO PULL INTO THE TURNING LANE BECAUSE A CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST REARENDED ME. HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED IN A YEAR. LAST TIME THE GARAGE HAD MY CAR FOR 5 DAYS AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. MY CAR WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. AFTER LOOKING O LINE LAST EVE AND TODAY I FOUND THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM SOME NOT AS LUCKY AS IAM. THE GARAGE TOLD ME TODAY THAT IT IS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY AND WILL COST ME 300$ OR MORE. ON MONDAY NOVEMBER 5TH, 2013 I WAS DRIVING MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE DOWN THE FREEWAY AT 9PM GOING HOME. I HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES WHEN THE ENGINE FELT LIKE IT HESITATED AND STUMBLED. I REALIZED THAT I COULD NOT GET THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE SO I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THERE WAS A WRENCH SYMBOL ON THE DASH BOARD. I EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE ON SUNDAY NOVEMBER 11TH, 2013 I WAS DRIVING FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES AND THE VEHICLE STUMBLED AGAIN AND THE SYMBOL CAME ON THE DASH. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WAITED 5 MINUTES. IT STARTED UP AND DID NOT HAVE ANY ISSUES UNTIL TODAY TUESDAY NOVEMBER 12TH, 2013. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT ABOUT 70 MILES AN HOUR AND THE ENGINE STUMBLED AGAIN. I PULLED OFF THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, WAITED 10 MINUTES AND THE CAR STARTED UP WITH NO FAULT CODE ON DASH. I DROVE HOME THE BACK ROADS. AFTER INVESTIGATING ONLINE I CAME ACROSS THE ARTICLE THAT THIS IS A RECURRING EVENT FOR THE FORD ESCAPES. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE BELTLINE, THE VEHICLE STOPPED RESPONDING TO THE ACCELERATOR. I PUT ON HAZARD LIGHTS, CHANGED TWO LANES TO GET TO THE RIGHT-HAND SHOULDER, AND STOPPED. FORTUNATELY THE TRAFFIC WAS NOT HEAVY AT THE TIME (9:30PM). RESTARTING THE VEHICLE FIXED THE PROBLEM, AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. HOWEVER DUE TO THE SAFETY HAZARD, I HAVE NOT DRIVEN IT SINCE. *TR
PULLED OUT ONTO A VERY BUSY SECONDARY ROADWAY...APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR AND IT JUST SAT THERE WHILE ONCOMING TRAFFIC CLOSED IN ON ME. THIS WAS THE FIRST OF MANY HESITATIONS THAT NEARLY GOT ME KILLED. TO MAKE IT WORSE...WHEN POWER COMES BACK IT COMES BACK SO FAST IT THROWS YOU BACK IN THE SEAT...ACTUALLY BURNING RUBBER. AFTER A YEAR OF INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WITH THIS I TOOK IT INTO FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY DIAGNOSED A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY....TROUBLE CODE P2112. SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ROUTINE MAINTENANCE I EXPECTED FORD TO TAKE CARE OF IT. THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME $400 DOLLARS TO FIX A PROBLEM THEY CREATED WITH SUBSTANDARD PARTS. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING 60MPH IN MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE ON THE HIGHWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN AN ORANGE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND MY CAR IMMEDIATELY DROPS TO LESS THAN 10MPH. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO GET TO THE MEDIAN WITH OUT INCIDENT. THE CAR DID START UP AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO GET TO A MECHANIC AFTER IT DID THE SAME THING ABOUT 10X IN A 15 MILE DRIVE. THE MECHANIC SAID THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME IN LESS THAN A MONTH HE HAD REPLACED THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY IN A 4 CYLINDER FORD ESCAPE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS!! *TR
EARLIER IN THE DAY, THE CAR LUNGED AND IT FELT LIKE IT HAD DROPPED OUT OF GEAR. LATER THAT EVENING WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM VACATION, I LOST ALL ACCELERATION FROM THE PEDAL. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO COAST OFF THE HIGHWAY AND GET OUT OF THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, LET IT SIT FOR A MINUTE AND THEN RESTARTED. IT WENT INTO GEAR AND I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR HOME. IT DID THIS ABOUT 4 MORE TIMES OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS. A COMPUTER TEST SHOWED IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. I JUST REPLACED AND THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE RESOLVED. THIS FAILURE COULD HAVE PLACED MY FAMILY IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, ESPECIALLY IF WE WOULD HAVE BEEN CROSSING TRAFFIC WHEN ALL ACCELERATION WAS LOST. *TR

CAR SEEMS TO LOOSE POWER. ALTHOUGH THE ENGINE IS STILL RUNNING IT SEEMS TO NOT BE ABLE TO ACCELERATE OR MOVE. I HAVE TO TURN ON MY BLINKERS AND COAST TO A SAFE PLACE AND STOP AND RESTART MY ENGINE. *TR

I HAD MY 2MONTH OLD GREAT GRANDDAUGHTER WITH ME AS I WAS TAKING HER HOME. I WAS A BLOCK FROM ENTERING THE FREEWAY AND THE CAR JUST QUIT RUNNING. I TRIED TO START IT BUT IT KEPT DYING. FINALLY IT STARTED AND I WENT 10 MILES AN HOUR BACK HOME WHICH WAS ONLY A FEW BLOCKS FROM THERE. I HAD IT TOWED TO FORD THE NEXT MORNING. THEY CALLED TODAY 9/20 THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER IT AND IT WAS ON BACK ORDER AS ALOT OF ESCAPES HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS PART AS THIS COULD CAUSE A VERY BAD ACCIDENT AND WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IF WE WERE ON THE FREEWAY. FIRST INCIDENT 1-3-12, TOOK TO FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. THEN ON 8-10-13 THE CAR JUST DIED GOING UP MY DRIVE WAY, BUT IT CRANKED RIGHT BACK UP. THEN ON 8-11-13 THE ENGINE QUIT AGAIN GOING ABOUT 10 MPH. IT CRANKED RIGHT BACK UP. I TOOK IT IN TO FORD DEALERSHIP ON TUESDAY 8-13-13 AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I , THEN SAW ON THE NEWS A REPORT ABOUT FORD ESCAPES STALLING AND THE THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. THIS EXAMPLE ON THE NEWS HAPPENED ON AN EXPRESSWAY. FORTUNATELY THEY WERE NOT HURT. MY QUESTION IS HOW DO I KNOW FOR SURE IF THE THROTTLE BODY IS BAD AGAIN ON MY ESCAPE.? IT STALLED 2 TIMES WHILE MOVING, BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. *TR
DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 60MPH WHEN CAR SLOWED DOWN TO 10-15MPH. HAD TO PLACE MY EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON IN ORDER NOT TO GET HIT BY PASSING VEHICLES AND MOVE TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND IT TURNS OUT ITS THE THROTTLE BODY THATS MALFUCTIONING. THE WARRANTY I PURCHASED DOES NOT COVER THIS TYPE OF PART, I DONT EVEN HAVE A YEAR WITH THIS VEHICLE. IN DOING MY RESEARCH I FIND OUT THAT THERE HAS BEEN AN INVESTIGATION ON THIS VEHICLE ON FORESAID PROBLEM AROUND THE TIME I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THE INVESTIGATION IS STILL OPENED. INVESTIGATION NUMBER PE13-003. THE FORD DEALERSHIP IS CHARGING ME CLOSE TO $700 IN ORDER TO GET THIS PART FIXED. THEY DID NOT PROVIDE THIS INFORMATION TO ME I HAD TO LOOK IT UP MYSELF. THEY ALSO DID NOT PROVIDE ME WITH A RENTER CAR I HAD TO PURCHASE ONE ON MY OWN. ITS JUST UNFAIR. *TR

THE CODE CAME BACK AS P2112 : THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM CLOSED; EXPLANATION ECM HAS DETECTED THE THROTTLE PLATE IS AT A LOWER ANGLE THAN COMMANDED PROBABLE CAUSE BINDING THROTTLE STUCK CLOSED. *TR
WHILE ENTERING A MAIN HIGHWAY FROM AN EXIT, DURING ACCELERATION THE VEHICLE BEGAN "SPLUTTERING" AND STALLED. CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED SUCCESSFULLY. AGAIN, LEAVING A PARKING LOT ONTO A MAIN HIGHWAY PULLING OUT OF MEDIAN BEGIN "SPLUTTERING" AND STALLED. CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED SUCCESSFULLY. AGAIN, STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, WHEN LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND BEGAN ACCELERATING, CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. CAR WAS RESTARTED AND TOOK TO LOCAL DEALER FOR INSPECTION. FOUND TO NEED A NEW THROTTLE BODY. UPON RESEARCH, FOUND THAT THIS HAS BEEN A FREQUENT COMPLAINT. THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO RESULT IN FATALITIES. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN SUDDENLY THE CAR MADE A VERY HARD JERK; IT FELT LIKE THE ENGINE FELL TO THE GROUND, AND THEN NO POWER WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDDLE. I HAVE SEEN MANY REPORTS ON LINE OF THE SAME DEFECTIVE PART. BESIDES THIS BEING A COSTLY EXPERIENCE [IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A WARRANTY] IT IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN THIS PART GOES OUT.
