THE INDICATOR SHOWED UPON STARTING THE CAR, A RED WARNING LIGHT "ENGINE CHECK". I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME LESS THAN A MILE IN AT A SLOW SPEED, NO ACCELERATION WAS POSSIBLE. THE NEXT MORNING MY HUSBAND FOLLOWED ME TO THE NEAREST LOCAL CAR REPAIR SHOP WHICH IS 12 MILES FROM MY HOME. AGAIN, NO ACCELERATION WAS POSSIBLE. THE CAR REQUIRED THAT THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY BE REPLACED. THERE IS A FIELD SERVICE ACTION ON THIS MODEL. THE PREVIOUS YEAR THE CAR HAD BEEN TAKEN TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP, WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED, FOR A VOLUNTARY SAFETY DEFECT CHECK FOR THIS SAME ISSUE. APPARENTLY THE TEMPORARY FIX, REPROGRAMMING THE CONTROL, THAT WAS PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE THE PREVIOUS YEAR WAS NOT SATISFACTORY TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THIS IS A DANGER TO OPERATING VEHICLES, SINCE THERE IS NO WARNING UNTIL THE SERVICE GOES OUT IN THE PERFORMANCE OF THIS PART. FORTUNATELY I WAS NEAR MY HOME AT THE TIME OF THE OCCURRENCE AND WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET TO A CAR REPAIR SHOP DOWN A RURAL ROAD FOR REPAIRS. I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR ON A CITY STREET OR HIGHWAY. BASICALLY THE CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN TOWED IN FOR REPAIRS. *TR
FOR THE FIRST TIME THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING, I WAS TURNING LEFT ONTO MY MOTHER'S STREET, GOING APPROXIMATELY 20/25 MPH. THERE WAS NO WARNING, THE VEHICLE JUST SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF, PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, AND RESTART THE CAR WITHOUT A PROBLEM. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ABOUT 4 WEEKS LATER AND AGAIN, I WAS GOING SLOW AS I WAS IN MY PARKING GARAGE AT WORK, APPROXIMATELY 15/20 MPH WHEN MY CAR SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT ANY WARNING SIGNS. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, RESTARTED AND STARTED DRIVING AGAIN. AS I WAS APPROACHING ANOTHER LEVEL IN THE PARKING GARAGE, THE SAME THING HAPPENED-THE CAR SHUT OFF. I WAS ABLE TO PUT IT IN PARK AND START DRIVING. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AS CARS HAVE ALMOST REAR ENDED ME AND I DRIVE WITH MY 2 YOUNG SONS IN THE CAR. PREVIOUS TO THESE INCIDENCES I TOOK MY CAR TO FORD FOR RECALLS REGARDING THE THROTTLE BODY, WHICH CAN APPARENTLY CAUSE THIS PROBLEM TO OCCUR. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE I-75 WHEN I EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER MY CAR TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. I TURNED MY CAR OFF, WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND RESTARTED MY CAR. THE CAR WHEN INTO DRIVE AND ACCELERATED WITH NO PROBLEM. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A MAJOR HIGHWAY THAT I TRAVEL DAILY TO AND FROM WORK IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THANKFULLY, I WAS NOT HIT IN THE REAR OF THE CAR BY ONCOMING SEMI TRUCKS. I WOULD APPRECIATE SOME ADVICE ON THIS PROBLEM. *TR
ENGINE STALLED AT 70 MPH WITHOUT WARNING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. STILL HAD POWER STEERING. NEEDED TO CROSS THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC WITHOUT ENGINE POWER. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. ATTEMPTED TO RESTART ENGINE APPROXIMATELY 10 TIMES. EACH TIME ENGINE WOULD START, IDLE FOR SEVERAL SECONDS, AND THEN CUT OFF. EVENTUALLY WAS ABLE TO START ENGINE, PUT ENGINE INTO NEUTRAL AND REVVED ENGINE TO MODERATE RPM SPEED. SEEMED TO RESET ISSUE AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AWAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AS THE WRENCH WARNING ICON ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSE OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
CAME HOME FROM A 45 MILE TRIP. PULLED UP IN FRONT OF OUR HOME. I PUT THE VEHICLE INTO REVERSE & THE ENGINE DIED. FORD HAD JUST REPROGRAMMED THIS VEHICLE PER A RECALL ONLY ABOUT 1,000 MILES BEFORE THIS ENGINE FAILURE. I HAD NOTICED SINCE THE REPROGRAMMING THAT THE ENGINE HESITATED AT TIMES & SOUNDED/FELT LIKE AT OTHER TIMES LIKE THE ENGINE WAS GOING TO DIE. FORD REPLACED SPARK PLUGS 1, 2, & 4 STATING THAT THEY WERE INTERMITTENTLY MISFIRING UNDER LOAD. SINCE SPARK PLUGS WERE REPLACED VEHICLE NO LONGER HESITATES BUT THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO SOUND/FEEL LIKE IT IS GOING TO DIE AT TIMES. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THERE WAS A GROWLING NOISE AND THE VEHICLE JERKED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,104.
MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE BEGAN STALLING OUT FROM A STOPPED POSITION AROUND THE BEGINNING OF FEBRUARY. THIS WAS AFTER DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND COMING TO A STOP AT THE EXIT RAMP LIGHT. THIS HAS, THUS FAR, OCCURRED TWICE OFF THE HIGHWAY. (AND ONCE IN A VERY QUICK, CROWDED, DANGEROUS OFF RAMP INTERSECTION.) OTHER INCIDENTS INCLUDE MULTIPLE TIMES STALLING FROM A COMPLETE STOP AFTER DRIVING A PERIOD OF TIME (APPROXIMATELY 10-15 MINUTES), AND MULTIPLE TIMES STALLING OUT AT APPROXIMATELY 3-5 MPH WHILE IN A PARKING LOT. I NOW HAVE TO KEEP MY FOOT ON THE PEDAL WHILE IDLING AT A LIGHT. ANOTHER PROBLEM IS THAT THE ESCAPE IS SURGING WHEN SLOWING BEFORE A STOP. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED IN THE BEGINNING OF JANUARY 2014 AND HAS PROGRESSIVELY INCREASED. *TR

I WAS STOPPED, WAITING TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN AND MID-TURN, THE CAR TURNED OFF. FORTUNATELY, THERE WASN'T ANY TRAFFIC APPROACHING MY CAR OR THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT SUDDENLY ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC AND STATED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM. IN ADDITION, FUEL WAS LEAKING INTO THE CHARCOAL CANISTER CAUSED BY A PURGED SOLENOID. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,456.
I WAS STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT AND AS I ACCELERATED TO GO THROUGH WHEN IT TURNED GREEN, THE CAR JUST COMPLETELY DIED - NO WARNING. IT RESTARTED RIGHT AWAY SO I CONTINUED ON MY WAY. ABOUT AN HOUR LATER, I HAD JUST TURNED INTO MY NEIGHBORHOOD, SO I WAS GOING ABOUT 10-15 MPH AND IT DIED AGAIN. WE TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP AND SINCE IT WAS NOT DYING FOR THEM, THEY TOLD US THEY COULD NOT PINPOINT THE PROBLEM. WE WENT FOR PROBABLY 9 MONTHS WITHOUT THIS HAPPENING AGAIN, AND THEN ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO, WE WERE DRIVING ABOUT 55 MPH AND IT JUST RANDOMLY DIED AGAIN. WE TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP THIS TIME AND THEY TOLD US THAT IT WAS THE PURGE VALVE. $1500 LATER, THE PROBLEM IS STILL NOT FIXED. TODAY, IT DIED 3 TIMES IN A MATTER OF 5 MINUTES, ALL INSIDE OF A PARKING GARAGE. THIS CAR IS TOO NEW TO BE POURING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS INTO IT - ESPECIALLY IF THIS PROBLEM IS AS COMMON AS IT SEEMS. *TR

WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD MY ESCAPE WILL ALL OF A SUDDEN START TO SHUTTER. THE RPM WILL GO DOWN TO 1 AND THEN FLUCTUATE BETWEEN 1 AND 2. THE GAS PEDDLE WILL NOT RESPOND. THE ENGINE LIGHT AND SMALL WRENCH LIGHT APPEAR ON THE DASH. I HAVE TO PULL OFF ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT IT OFF. SOMETIMES IT WOULD CRANK BACK UP WITH NO MORE PROBLEMS FOR A FEW DAYS OR WEEKS. BUT OTHER TIMES THE CAR WILL ONLY TRAVEL A FEW YARDS BEFORE DOING IT AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING WITH A LIGHT ON. FINALLY IT HAPPENED ONE DAY WHEN I WAS CLOSE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND SAID MY THROTTLE BODY WAS DIRTY. THEY CHARGED ME $406 TO "CLEAN" IT. THE NEXT DAY AFTER PULLING INTO THE PARKING LOT WHILE IN PARK IT STARTED DOING THE SHUTTER THING AGAIN. I TOOK IT STRAIGHT BACK AND WITHOUT A LIGHT ON THE DASH THEY COULDN'T TELL ME WHAT WAS WRONG. IT DID THIS 4 MORE TIMES UNTIL MY FIANCE' AND I WERE ON THE INTERSTATE GOING 75 AND IT DID IT AND JERKED SO BADLY WE ALMOST WRECKED. HIS FATHER HAD A DIAGNOSTIC CODE READER TO HOOK UP TO CARS AND THE CODES CAME BACK AS THE THROTTLE BODY DOOR WAS JAMMED OPEN AND THE OTHER CODE SAID IT WAS JAMMED OPEN AT THE SAME TIME? WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID A TON OF PEOPLE WERE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE BUT TO CLEAN IT AGAIN. WE SAID NO BECAUSE THAT DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM LAST TIME. INSTEAD WE WANTED TO BUY A NEW THROTTLE BODY. THE DEALER SAID IT IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER BECAUSE EVERYONE IS HAVING HUGE PROBLEMS WITH THROTTLE BODY PARTS SO WE WOULD HAVE TO TOUGH IT OUT UNTIL SOME CAME AVAILABLE. LUCKILY MY FIANCE CALLED ANOTHER DEALER WHO HAPPENED TO HAVE ONE THAT THEY EMERGENCY ORDERED FOR SOMEONE ELSE. ONCE WE HAVE THAT ONE INSTALLED WE WILL BE OUT ABOUT 1000 FOR SOMETHING ON A CAR THAT IS NOT OLD AND VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF. I WILL NEVER BUY FORD AGAIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 5 MPH AND PREPARING TO STOP FOR A TRAFFIC STOP WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE OIL AND BATTERY WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, WHICH PROCEEDED TO OPERATE NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,150.
THREE TIMES MY CAR GAS DIED WITH ONLY 28K MILES ON IT. FIRST TIME I START THE CAR PROCEED TO DRIVE UP TO FOVE MPH AND HAVE A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER. PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND THE RPMS DO NOT RAISE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES, BOTH ON THE EXPRESSWAY WHERE I HAD TO COAST TO A STOP IN THE FAR LEFT LANE AND I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED. TURN THE CAR ON AND OFF AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY THE FIRST TWO TIMES, INCLUDING THE WRENCH LIGHT. THIRD TIME THE ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON. OWNED THE CAR FOR A SMIDGE OVER THREE YEARS AND MY WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER THIS. THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE. *TR
THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE EXACT CONDITION AS DESCRIBED IN NHTSA INVESTIGATION # PE13003. TRAVELING STEADILY AT 30 MPH, FELT A SUDDEN 'THUMP' FROM THE DRIVETRAIN. THE 'WRENCH' INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON THE INDICATOR PANEL AND VEHICLE WENT INTO "LIMP HOME MODE' AND ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN AT LOW RPM (@ 900). THE THROTTLE DID NOT RESPOND AND VEHICLE COULD NOT BE ACCELERATED. ELECTRICAL AND HYDRAULIC POWER WAS MAINTAINED, PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD AND STOPPED NORMALLY. ONCE IN PARK THE ENGINE BEGAN TO REV ERRATICALLY AT LOWER RPMS. TURNED OFF ENGINE, REMOVED KEY. I HAVE AN OBD SCANNER WHICH I USED TO CHECK FOR CODES - DELIVERED CODE "P2111". WE WERE ONLY A FEW BLOCKS FROM OUR HOME, RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATION AND SUCCESSFULLY DROVE HOME AND HAS CONTINUED NORMAL OPERATION TO PRESENT TIME (MARCH 11, 2013). *TR

DRIVING 40 MPH AND MY CAR JUST STALLED. CAR STUTTERED, QUIT AND WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. LUCKILY IT WAS A SUNDAY MORNING AND ROADS WEREN'T TO BUSY. I COASTED TO A SIDE ROAD, PULLED OVER, WAITED A COUPLE MINUTES AND RESTARTED. I JUST BOUGHT THIS USED 2010 FORD ESCAPE LIMITED A WEEK AGO. I GUESS I SHOULD HAVE GOOGLED THE VEHICLE SOONER. :(
