TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP AND ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE HESITATED BEFORE MOVING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE BECAME WORSE OVER TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FIFTH GEAR HAD BECOME INOPERABLE AND THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE KEPT FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.

I WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP.BWHIND A VEHICLE AT A STOP LIGHT. WHEN I RELEASED THE GAS, MY VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD AND HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. FRON THAT DAY FORWARD, MY VEHICLE HAD FREQUENTLY SURGED FORWARD OR REVED UP QHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP. NOW, MY VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF WHILE I'M DRIVING WITH NO WARNING. THE ONLY LIGHT I SEE IS THE WRENCH LIGHT AND THAT'S ONLY WHILE THE VEHICLE IS ROLLING TO A STOP AFTER SHUTTING OFF.

THE VEHICLE BEGAN HAVING DIFFICULTY SHIFTING INTO 2ND AND 3RD GEARS IN NOVEMBER 2014. APPARENTLY, THERE WAS A LEAK ON THE DRIVER-SIDE AXLE SHAFT THAT CAUSED TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVELS TO DROP. INITIALLY, WE PERCEIVED THIS ISSUE TO BE RELATED TO COLD WEATHER, BUT THE LEAK WAS DISCOVERED WHEN WE FINALLY TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP TO DISCOVER THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM IN MARCH 2015. A SEAL ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE WAS LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID, RESULTING IN A REPAIR BILL OF $471. WHILE CHECKING ONLINE TO SEE IF THIS WAS AN APPROPRIATE COST FOR THE REPAIR, I DISCOVERED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM IN BOTH 2010 FORD ESCAPE MODELS AND FORD FUSION MODELS. THE INDIVIDUAL WE SPOKE TO AT THE DEALERSHIP WHEN PICKING UP THE VEHICLE INFORMED US THAT THEY WERE WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AS WELL. HE INSTRUCTED US TO SAVE THE RECEIPTS IN THE EVENT OF A FUTURE RECALL. FORD HAD ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING THIS PROBLEM WITH THE AXLE SEAL, SO THE COMPANY IS WELL AWARE OF THIS ISSUE ALSO. *TR

MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE HAS BEEN STALLING!!! I HAVE ALREADY GOT THE THROTTLE BODY UPDATE LAST WEEK! THAT IS NOT THE FIX. I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH MY CAR (THE TRANSMISSION WAS BAD- RECALLED, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP ON ME DRIVING THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH WITH MY KID- RECALLED, THE THROTTLE BODY- FIXED LAST WEEK IN THE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION UPDATE/RECALL) AND YET IT IS STILL STALLING. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND JUST AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. THIS 5 YEAR OLD CAR HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT A DEATH TRAP FOR ME AND MY TODDLER. NO ONE CAN TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE STALLING. WAS DRIVING ALONG AT 55 MPH WHEN OUT OF THE BLUE THE ENGINE SPUTTERED AND CAR SHOOK. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAD NO ACCELERATION FROM THE GAS PEDAL, THE CAR WAS HARD TO STEER AND ALMOST NO BRAKES. WHEN I FINALLY STOPPED THE CAR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON ALONG WITH THE THROTTLE CONTROL/POWER TRAIN WRENCH LIGHT AND THE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM LIGHT BLINKING. THE CAR ENTERED INTO FAILURE MODE EFFECTS MANAGEMENT (FMEM) MODE OR LIMP MODE WHEN IT WAS ON HIGH WAY, MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP (MIL) OR WRENCH LAMP WERE BOTH ON THE DASH. I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT GAVE IT GAS. THE CAR WENT CLUNK AND THEN STOPPED MOVING BUT ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. LUCKILY I GOT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SHUT IT OFF WAITED A BUT THEN TRIED TO START IT. AT FIRST IT HESITATED BUT STARTED. 2 DAYS LATER IT DID IT AGAIN. HAD IT ON A COMPUTER NOTHING SHOWED UP. 2 WEEKS LATER ON A SATURDAY IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THEN ON MONDAY GOING TO WORK IT DID IT AGAIN. TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 30-40 MPH WHEN THE WRENCH INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER. I COASTED INTO A PULL OFF ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. RESTARTED A FEW MINUTES LATER AND WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE. IN APPROXIMATELY FIVE MINUTES, AT THE SAME APPROXIMATE SPEED, THE WRENCH INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER. AGAIN I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND THEN RESTARTED. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND ANY CODES STORED IN THE SYSTEM AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE RECALLED "REPROGRAMMING" WAS COMPLETED ON THE CAR. THEY HAVE OFFERED TO KEEP MY VEHICLE FOR AN ADDITIONAL DAY TO TRY TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM AND TO CHECK A FEW ADDITIONAL ITEMS. *TR

I PLACED SEVERAL CALLS AND FOUND OUT HOW TO RESET. I TURNED THE KEY, WITHOUT TURNING THE ENGINE, PUMPED THE GAS PEDAL THREE TIMES, AND TURNED THE CAR FULLY OFF. I THEN TURNED THE CAR ON, AND THE LIGHT WAS NO LONGER ON. IT NOW SEEMS TO BE WORKING FINE. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 20 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR STARTED THRUSTING FORWARD. IT WAS ALMOST LIKE MY CAR HAD DIED AND WHEN I WOULD STEP ON THE GAS IT WOULDN'T WORK AND THERE WAS NO RPM'S. THE FIRST TIME I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT AND MY CAR HAD DIED AND I STOPPED TRAFFIC FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES. WHEN I WOULD TURN MY CAR OFF AND RE-START IT WOULD FINALLY WORK. TRAVELING ON FREEWAY IN FORT WORTH AND CAR WENT INTO "LIMP MODE". WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE "WRENCH" LIGHT IMMEDIATELY CAME ON AS WELL AS THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, THEN AFTER ABOUT 30 SECONDS, WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND PROCEED APPROX. 4 MORE MILES BEFORE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. AT THIS POINT I CONTACTED THE DEALER WHO I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM AND THEY SENT A TOW TRUCK OUT THE NEXT MORNING. *TR

I WAS ON I-630 CROSSING OVER TO FINANCIAL PARKWAY IN LITTLE ROCK WHEN MY VEHICLE LOST POWER AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I WAS ABLE TO CROSS THE INTERSECTION AND PULL INTO A BANK PARKING LOT WHERE I REQUESTED A WRECKER TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO THE CRAIN FORD DEALERSHIP. INITIAL TESTING REVEALED NO PROBLEM BUT AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES THE PROBLEM RE-OCCURRED FOR THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN AND THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED AT A TOTAL COST OF 480.97 AS THE WARRANTY ON THE PART HAD EXPIRED 214 MILES PREVIOUSLY. I HAVE SINCE BECOME AWARE THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND IS LIKELY THE RESULT OF A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY AT THE POINT OF MANUFACTURE. *TR

RAN A VEHICLE HEALTH REPORT AND IT SHOWED: URGENT POWERTRAIN MALFUNCTION / REDUCED POWER TURNED OFF CAR, LET SIT FOR A MINUTE, RESTARTED AND DROVE FINE. WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY I SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION, BEGAN TO LOSE SPEED AND NOTICED THE WRENCH LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD CAME ON. I HAD TO PULL OVER ONTO THE SHOULDER WHILE SEMI TRUCKS AND CARS BLEW PAST ME. AS I WAS TRYING TO CONTACT ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE, I RESTARTED THE CAR AND NOTICED THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS GONE. I WAS THEN ABLE TO GET BACK ON THE ROAD AND CONTINUED TO MY DESTINATION WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. I TOOK MY CAR INTO A CERTIFIED FORD DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AND THEY ADVISED THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND LOCATED NO STORED CODES IN THE COMPUTER. YESTERDAY ON 06/11/2013 THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE I WAS ON THE EXPRESSWAY. I HAD TO GET ON THE SHOULDER WAIT A FEW MINUTES AND RESTART THE CAR. BOTH TIMES I WAS SO GRATEFUL MY 19 MONTH WAS NOT IN THE CAR WITH ME WHICH IS UNUSUAL. I PLAN ON TAKING IT AGAIN TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT BUT I'M ANTICIPATING THE SAME RESPONSE. *TR

AS WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WE LOST POWER, HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE THEN STARTED LURCHING FORWARD AND WE HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF TO MAKE IT STOP. WHEN WE RESTARTED THE CAR IT WOULD DRIVE FINE FOR A FEW MILES THEN LOSE POWER AGAIN AND AGAIN BEGIN TO LURCH FORWARD. THIS HAPPENED 4 SEPARATE TIMES BEFORE WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS MODEL FORD AND IT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. *TR

WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE, THE ENGINE SOUNDS ROUGH. THE ENGINE WON'T ACCELERATE WHEN THIS OCCURS. A SMALL WRENCH ICON LIGHTS UP ON THE DASHBOARD. I HAVE TO PULL OVER, TURN OFF THE VEHICLE, THEN RESTART IT. IT THEN SOUNDS AND DRIVES NORMALLY, UNTIL THE NEXT TIME THIS OCCURS, WHICH CAN BE ONLY DAYS LATER. IT IS LIKELY A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY. I HAVE SEEN MANY MENTIONS OF THIS SAME PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET. IT SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TR
