WHILE DRIVING ON 270 IN GAITHERSBURG MARYLAND, MY FORD ESCAPE STALLED. THIS WAS THE THIRD TIME MY VEHICLE STALLED. THE PREVIOUS TIMES IT WAS ON SHADY GROVE ROAD. THANKFULLY, WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON 270 I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT INCIDENT. I TOOK MY CAR TO FORD SHEEHY IN GAITHERSBURG RIGHT AWAY AND I HAD TO RENT A CAR UNTIL MY VEHICLE WAS FIXED. THE MECHANIC SAID THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY, WHICH WAS DEFECTIVE. I PAID $527.67. FOUR MONTHS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT BACK TO FORD SHEEHY. THIS TIME IT WAS THE PURGE VALVE. I HAD TO PAY $557.79 SO WITHIN THE SPACE OF FOUR MONTHS I HAD OVER $1,000 IN REPAIRS ON A VEHICLE THAT I BARELY DRIVE. WHEN I GO OUT OF TOWN, I RENT A CAR INSTEAD OF DRIVING MY FORD ESCAPE, BECAUSE I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING LONG DISTANCES. AFTER COMPLAINING TO FORD THROUGH EMAIL, THEY DENIED THERE WAS A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY GOING IN A STEADY 55 MILES PER HOUR. I WANTED TO INCREASE THE SPEED BUT NO GAIN IN SPEED. PRESSING THE ACCELERATION PADDLE SPEED IS STILL DROPPING FAST. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THAN RESTARTED THE CAR. AFTER ABOUT 10 MILES SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN, BUT THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY WARNING BEFORE THAT , THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING SO WRONG WITH MY CAR. I WISH IT WOULD HAVE GIVEN ME SOME WARNING AHEAD OF TIME. THE FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. LUCKY US, WE DID NOT GET HURT. VERY DANGEROUS AND VERY SCARY FOR PASSENGERS AND CARS PASSING. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND WAS INFORMED THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. DRIVING UP A HILL AND THE CAR STALLED. NO POWER. WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER, SHUT OFF ENGINE AND RESTART. CAR STALLED TWO MORE TIMES BEFORE I COULD GET IT HOME. ONCE FROM A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION LIGHT WHICH RESULTED IN A STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION ALMOST CAUSING A WRECK. THE SECOND TIME AS I SLOWED DOWN TO MAKE A TURN. TOOK IT IMMEDIATELY TO A FORD DEALER. DEFECTIVE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY WHICH IS ON BACKORDER. THEY HAVE HAD MY CAR A WEEK NOW. MAY BE ANOTHER WEEK BEFORE PART COMES IN. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PART BREAKDOWN AND FORD NEEDS TO FIX IT FREE. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AND THE TRUCK JUST STOP. IT WOULD NOT GO UNTIL I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON AGAIN. THEN, IT TOOK OFF FAST AND SLOWED DOWN AGAIN. WE HAD TO PUSH THE CAR HOME! LUCKILY, WE WAS NOT TOO FAR FROM HOME. WE WAS ON OUR WAY TO CHURCH, INSTEAD PUSHING A HEAVY TRUCK IN OUR GOOD CLOTHES. A HOT MESS. WE HAD THIS TRUCK A OUT 11 MONTHS. I BOUGHT A WARRANTY BUT GUESS WHAT IT DID NOT COVER THE THROTTLE BODY. ITS AT THE FORD DEALER CAUSING $410.00 THAT I DO NOT HAVE; PLUS THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER. IT COULD TAKE UP TO 3 WEEKS TO GET HERE. *TR
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE HAS STALLED. THE FIRST COUPLE OF TIMES IT WOULD TURN OFF WHILE I WAS AT A RED LIGHT OR AT A STOP SIGN, IT THEN STARTED TURNING OFF WHILE I WAS IN ACTIVE DRIVING. MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSIS RESULTED DEFECTS WITH THE THROTTLE BODY PARTICULARLY PART 9E926 - BODY ASY-AIR CHARGE. THE WARRANTY DOCUMENTATION STATES THE PART IS NOT A COVERED REPAIRED IN MY STATE HOWEVER IT IS COVERED IN CALIFORNIA UP TO 7 YEARS OR 70,000 MILES. THE PART REQUIRED IS CURRENTLY ON NATIONAL BACKORDER. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND MY ENGINE STALLED I TURNED OFF OF THE MAIN ROAD AND PUSHED ON THE BRAKE. AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN MY CAR BEGAN TO IDLE VERY ROUGH AND JUMPY. I PUT IT IN PARK AND TURNED IT OFF. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND HAD TO PUSH ON THE GAS PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT STARTED DROVE AWAY AND IT WAS FINE COUPLE MONTHS LATER THE SAME THING EXCEPT. IT WILL NOW ONLY GO A MILE OR SO BEFORE IT HAPPENS AGAIN. IT HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 10 TIMES IN 2 DAYS. I'VE CALLED SEVERAL DEALERS TO GET A PART AND THEY ARE ALL ON BACK ORDER WHICH TELLS ME THERE ARE LOTS OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS PART. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE DEALERS POSSESSION FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 18,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 24,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION; GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT WORK. VEHICLE MOVED VERY SLOWLY. THROTTLE CONTROL/POWERTRAIN WARNING LIGHT APPEARED (WRENCH). VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. WARNING LIGHT DID NOT REAPPEAR AND CAR RAN NORMALLY. AFTER SOME ONLINE RESEARCH, I FOUND MANY ESCAPE OWNERS (NOT JUST 2010 OWNERS, BUT OTHER YEARS AS WELL) DESCRIBING VERY SIMILAR INCIDENTS. MY MECHANIC CHECKED WITH FORD DEALER FOR THROTTLE BODY PART AND WAS TOLD THEY HAD PLENTY ON HAND SINCE THIS PART SEEMED TO BE IN DEMAND. COST ME $313 DOLLARS. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 65MPH MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. MY SPEED DROPPED TO A CRAWL AND I WAS FORCED TO DRIFT TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE. AT THIS POINT THE CAR WAS JERKING BACK AND FORTH AND WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RE-STARTED, AND DROVE NO MORE THEN 45 MPH TO MY DEALERSHIP. ABOUT 1 WEEK AFTER THE FIRST OCCURRENCE, IT HAPPENED AGAIN AT A VERY LOW SPEED, APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH. I AGAIN PULLED OVER AND NOTICED A WRENCH ILLUMINATED ON THE CONTROL PANEL. AGAIN I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, NO RESOLUTION. THE DEALERSHIP IS NOW ASKING ME TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH A DIAGNOSTIC DEVICE ATTACHED TO CAPTURE DATA AT THE NEXT FAILURE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN! I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS SUDDEN LOSS OF ACCELERATION WILL RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT AND POSSIBLE INJURY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT ABOUT 80 MPH AND SUDDENLY MY CAR JERKED, AND LOST ALL CONTROL OF ACCELERATION. MY CAR WENT FROM 80-15 IN JUST A MATTER OF SECONDS. NO MATTER HOW HARD I PRESSED THE GAS, I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. THANKFULLY I WAS IN THE FAST LANE AND WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND A FEW MINUTES LATER I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT AGAIN. VERY SCARY. MY CAR IS AT THE SHOP NOW AND AS OF YESTERDAY THEY HAVEN'T FOUND A PROBLEM. I HAVE RESEARCHED IT AND TOLD THEM IT SOUNDS LIKE THE THROTTLE BODY IS BAD. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS OF COMPLAINTS. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND FORD SHOULD HAVE A RECALL IMMEDIATELY. IT'S A SHAME I'M TERRIFIED OF DRIVING MY TWO YEAR OLD AROUND IN MY TWO YEAR OLD CAR. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED AND LOCATED THE FAILURE AS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY COVER. THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY TWENTY-FIVE TIMES. THE DEALER MADE AN UPDATE TO THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER SOFTWARE AND THE FAILURE SEEMED TO BE RESOLVED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 41,438 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS LOCATED AT THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY AND RELAY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND A CLAIM WAS FILED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000.

AS HE REMOVED HIS FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF HIM. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND WAS SCHEDULE TO BE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE BODY DAMAGE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPAIRED BEFORE THE VEHICLE COULD BE INSPECTED FOR INTERNAL FAILURES. THE CONTACT AND A PASSENGER WERE REPORTED INJURED. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS INSPECTED FIVE TIMES PRIOR IN REGARDS TO THE FAILURE PRIOR TO THE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V222000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). THERE WERE NO FURTHER REPAIRS. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 22,000.
