VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL AT HIGHWAY SPEED WITH NO THROTTLE RESPONSE. COASTED VEHICLE TO A STOP AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. CONTINUED DOWN THE ROAD AS IT STALLED TWO MORE TIMES TO THE NEAREST DEALER. THEY SCANNED AND GAVE US CODE P2111 TECH SAID THAT WE NEEDED A THROTTLE BOTTLE AND IT WAS ON A NATIONWIDE BACK ORDER. TECH ALSO SAID THERE WERE 3 OTHER VEHICLES ON THE LOT WAITING FOR THE SAME PART. TRIED TO ORDER PART AND THEY WANTED CASH UP FRONT, IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH ENGINE LOST POWER MAINTENANCE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER STOPPING AND SHUTTING DOWN THE ENGINE. ENGINE WAS HARD TO RESTART. ENGINE STARTED AND I RESUMED DRIVING. NOW THIS IS A REGULAR OCCURRENCE HAPPENING WITH NO WARNING. THE CODE IN THE COMPUTER IS P2112, THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM STUCK CLOSED. IT HAPPENS AT VARIOUS SPEED INCLUDING INTERSTATE SPEEDS. WHILE LOOKING FOR A REPLACEMENT PART I FOUND THIS IS HAPPENING TO A LOT OF ESCAPE OWNERS AND A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR EARLIER MODELS. IT APPEARS TO ME FORD HAS YET TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I AM RELUCTANT TO INVEST THE $500-$600 FOR THE REPAIR IF IT IS JUST GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE ENGINE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED BECAUSE THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 66,000. *TR
ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY RAN ROUGH AND LOST MOST ACCELERATION POWER. FORCED TO DRIVE ON TO CENTER MEDIAN TO AVOIDS ACCIDENT. BROUGHT TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD WAS FAULTY CHARCOAL CANISTER SENSOR. AND OTHER COMPONENTS. *TR
I WAS EXITING OFF I-295 WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED TO RUN ROUGH AND THEN I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE GAS PEDAL. WHEN I PUSHED ON IT THE ENGINE DID NOTHING BUT IDLE VERY ROUGHLY. THE ENGINE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I COASTED TO A STOP AND PUT IT IN PARK. THE CAR CONTINUED TO RUN ROUGHLY. *TR
I HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR MONTHS WITH MY ENGINE SURGING AND ALMOST PULLING AND DRAGGING ALMOST LIKE SLOWING TO A STOP. I DO NOT KNOW A LOT ABOUT CARS SO I JUST CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT. FINALLY ONE MORNING IN APRIL I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK AT 5AM. I WAS TURNING ONTO THE HIGHWAY WHEN WHILE I WAS PRESSING ON THE GAS WITHOUT WARNING ALL POWER WAS LOST. THE ENGINE CUT OFF AND I WAS ABLE TO COAST OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. THANK GOD IT HAPPENED RIGHT BEFORE MERGING ONTO HIGHWAY RAMP INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC BECAUSE I COULD HAVE POSSIBLE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED IN A CRASH OR HAVE BEEN A CRASH FATALITY. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTO STORE TO HAVE BATTERY CHANGED. JUST A WEEK LATER THE PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN. THIS TIME THE SURGES WERE MORE EVIDENT AFTER I WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. IT FELT AS IF THE VEHICLE WOULD START DECELERATING AND LOOSING POWER WHILE I WAS FLOORING THE GAS EVEN ON THE HIGHWAY. I BECAME NERVOUS ABOUT THIS WHERE I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO BE CHECKED OUT AT FORD WHERE I WAS THEN TOLD THAT IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY DEVICE. I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THERE MIGHT BE A NATIONAL RECALL ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I AM VERY UPSET BECAUSE NO WARNINGS WERE GIVEN ABOUT THIS POTENTIAL PROBLEM BECAUSE OF THE POSSIBLE DANGERS WITH THESE OCCURRENCES. MY VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY, BUT TO HAVE THIS TYPE OF CONCERNING ISSUE NOW, WHO KNOWS WHAT'S TO COME. I REALLY WANT OUT OF THIS VEHICLE AND WOULD LIKE THE OPTION TO TRADE IT IN NOW. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE COMPUTER WAS READING AN ERROR AND THE VALVE ASSEMBLY FAILED, WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000.
MY 2011 ESCAPE CAME TO A STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND I WAS PREPARING TO MAKE A RIGHT ON RED, WHEN I BEGAN TO ACCELERATE INTO TRAFFIC THE ENGINE STALLED. THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A POTENTIALLY DEADLY ACCIDENT. I BELIEVE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THE BATTERY LIGHT WERE BOTH ILLUMINATED AFTER IT STALLED. THE VEHICLE STARTED PROPERLY AFTER I PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE. FORD MUST ADDRESS THIS POTENTIALLY FATAL PROBLEM WITH IT'S ENGINE DESIGN. *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING, MY VEHICLE WITH NO WARNING LOST POWER. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT ROUGHLY. I COULD PRESS THE ACCELERATOR, BUT IT NO LONGER CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE. AFTER WAITING FOR HELP TO ARRIVE, I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN TRIED TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE STARTED FINE. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHO THOUGHT THE THROTTLE BOX MAY BE BAD. I PAID TO HAVE IT CLEANED OUT AND FOR A GAS ADDITIVE TO DECREASE THE LIKELIHOOD THAT IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER, MY ESCAPE STALLED AGAIN IN THE SAME WAY AND WITH THE SAME RESULTS. IT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES NOW SINCE MAY 2ND. I REALIZE THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE FAILURE OF THE THROTTLE BODY IN FORD ESCAPES INCLUDING THE 2011 MODEL. WHAT IS DESCRIBED IN THE THROTTLE BODY FAILURE SITUATIONS IS EXACTLY WHAT I AM EXPERIENCING WITH MY VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE TO BE IN CURB LANES AND ABLE TO MANEUVER SAFELY OFF THE ROAD EACH OF THE TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED. IF I HAPPEN TO BE IN A CENTER HIGHWAY LANE WHEN IT HAPPENS, I MAY NOT BE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO RESTART MY VEHICLE SAFELY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THERE WAS A SUDDEN REDUCTION IN THE ENGINE POWER WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THERE WAS AN OPEN INVESTIGATION ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: DP12006 (ENGINE). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
DRIVING ALONG AND ENGINE HESITATED LIKE IT CUT OUT IS HOW IT FELT. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIME SINCE THEN. WHEN IT DOES THIS IT IS LIKE IT LOST POWER AS THOUGH THE ENGINE IGNITION WAS TURN OFF. *TR
DRIVING ON INTERSTATE AT 65-70 MPH AND ENGINE SHUTS DOWN. I HAVE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD PUT IN PARK AND RESTART IT. THE ENGINE REMAINS RUNNING WHEN THIS HAPPENS BUT ONLY AT A IDLE. AND A VERY ROUGH IDOL. THIS HAPPENED 4 TIMES LAST WEEK. VERY SCARY WHEN ON INTERSTATE! WHEN I TURN IT OFF AND RESTART IT SEEMS FINE UNTIL IT HAPPENS NEXT TIME. *TR
WHILE ENTERING THE HIGHWAY AND GETTING UP TO SPEED, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO LOSE POWER. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME IT HAS HAPPENED IN A 2 WEEK PERIOD, THE LATEST BEING THE DATE IDENTIFIED ABOVE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT 55MPH GOING EAST ON 301. I STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN TO TURN LEFT ONTO 305, CROSSING OVER 301 WEST. AFTER STOPPING, I ACCELERATED TO CROSS OVER 301 WEST TO TURN ONTO 305 AND THE ENGINE DIED. LUCKILY I HAD ENOUGH MOMENTUM TO DRIFT ACROSS THE ROAD AND MADE IT SAFELY ONTO THE SHOULDER OF 301. IF I DIDN'T I WOULD HAVE BEEN T-BONED BY CARS TRAVELING <55+MPH. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT APPROX 55 TO 60 MILES PER HOUR I SUDDENLY, WITHOUT ANY KIND OF WARNING, LIGHT ETC, BEGAN TO QUICKLY SLOW DOWN. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING BUT I DID NOT HAVE ANY FORWARD POWER. I PULLED OVER, TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON, THE ENGINE LIGHT AND WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, THE WRENCH LIGHT WENT OUT BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. I STARTED IT BACK UP, DROVE DOWN THE BERM AT ABOUT 15-20 AND IT DID IT AGAIN; I STOPPED TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON AND MANAGED TO GET OFF THE INTERESTATE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY; THIS WAS THE THROTTLE BODY THAT CAME ON THE VEHICLE. ABOUT $382.00 LATER MY CAR SEEMS TO BE DOING OKAY. MY POINT.....THIS IS DANGEROUS, EXTREMELY DANGEROUS - LUCKILY I DIDN'T HAVE A TRACTOR TRAILER BEARING DOWN ON ME....HOWEVER, THERE WERE SEVERAL HORNS AND ABRUPT STOPS. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THESE IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. *TR
WHILE SITTING AT A BUSY INTERSECTION, THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY...NO WARNING OR NO INDICATION THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTART. A FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL OTHER TIMES. LAST NIGHT, I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH WHEN IT SHUT DOWN AGAIN. I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED BY THE CAR BEHIND ME. I TRAVEL 35 MILES EACH WAY TO WORK...INCLUDING SOME HIGHWAYS WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT IS 55MPH. I'M AFRAID IT WILL HAPPEN THERE AND I'LL BE REAR-ENDED BY SOME TAIL-GATER. *TR
ON THE 5TH DAY OF USE OF MY NEW VEHICLE, I WAS RIDING AT 60 MPH ON A RAINY DAY WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER STOP WORKING, MY WINDOWS START FOGGING. THERE WAS NO CAR LIGHT ALARMS, CAR TEMPERATURE NORMAL (NO THERMOSTAT ALARM). I TOOK THE CAT TO FORD SERVICE, IT TOOK 4 DAYS TO FIX THE PROBLEM, FINDING OUT THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE THERMOSTAT AND AS A CONSEQUENCE IT AFECT THE AIR CONDITIONER. *TT
2011 FORD ESCAPE ENGINE STALLS AT RANDOM TIMES: I BOUGHT THE CAR AS A FORD CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED VEHICLE IN AUGUST 2012. IN NOVEMBER THE STALLING ISSUE STARTED. IT'S HAPPENED TO ME THREE TIMES NOW. THE CAR JUST SHUTS OFF AND GOES INTO SOME TYPE OF IDLE MODE AND A LITTLE ORANGE WRENCH APPEARS ON THE DASH. TWO TIMES ON THE INTERSTATE AND AGAIN ONE MORNING COMING INTO WORK. WHEN IT STALLED ON THE FREEWAY I WAS TRAVELING AT 70 MPH AND HAD TO PULL OFF INTO THE GRASS -- HIT SOMETHING AND BLEW A FRONT TIRE. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. AFTER CHANGING THE FRONT TIRE IT STARTED RIGHT BACK UP BUT ONLY MADE IT 45 MINUTES BEFORE STALLING AGAIN (THIS TIME AT 45 MPH AND ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD). HAD SAME STALLING ISSUE ON THE WAY TO WORK BUT AT A LOWER SPEED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE TO THE NORMAL SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT THERE WERE NO ERROR CODES. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR DUPLICATING THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO STATED A CONSUMER REPRESENTATIVE WILL CONTACT HIM WITHIN THE NEXT TWO DAYS. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,800.
