WIFE PULLED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AND WENT INTO LIMP HOME MODE. SHE STOPPED THE VEHICLE, PUT IT INTO PARK AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. FIRST ATTEMPT TO RESTART VEHICLE FAILED, SECOND ATTEMPT, VEHICLE STARTED AND WRENCH SYMBOL ILLUMINATED AND STAYED ON APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES UNTIL SHE ARRIVED AT WORK. SHE HAS ALSO BEEN EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT SURGING FORWARD WHILE DRIVING AND TRANSMISSION BANGING INTO REVERSE WHEN BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. THE RPMS HAVE BEEN SURGING SPORADICALLY WHEN CRANKING THE CAR. TOOK THE CAR TO FORD DEALER ON FRIDAY, 17 MAY 2013, RECEIVED A CALL FROM SERVICE REP. SAYING THAT THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED, BUT HOWEVER, PART IS ON BACKORDER AND THEY ARE SEARCHING NATIONWIDE FOR THE PART TO FIX THE PROBLEM. HE ALSO STATED THAT HE DIDN'T FEEL COMFORTABLE RETURNING THE VEHICLE FOR MY WIFE TO DRIVE UNTIL THE PART IS FOUND DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF HER HAVING A ACCIDENT. HOWEVER, UNTIL THEN, WE ARE OUT A VEHICLE, BECAUSE IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. FORTUNATELY, THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT IS THE MAGIC NUMBER FOR NTHSB TO FORCE FORD INTO ISSUING A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM, HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO BE INJURED OR DIE FOR THIS TO HAPPEN ??????? *TR
I WAS MOVING INTO TRAFFIC AND THE CAR SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD AND THEN STALLED DOWN TO A ROUGH IDLE. THE WENCH SYMBOL WAS ILLUMINATED AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITH A CODE OF P2111. THROTTLE BODY ACTUATOR FAILURE - STUCK OPEN. *TR

IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON DRIVING 60 MPH CAR SLOWED DOWN, WOULD NOT ACCELERATED, JERKED,, WAS ABLE TO EXIT, TURNED OFF RESTARTED , MADE IT WORK OK, DROVE HOME ABOUT 22 MILES, NO PROBLEM. WENT FOR DINNER STOPPED AT RED LIGHT, WOULD NOT GO WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, TURN OFF RESTART, TAKEN TO DEALER ON SATURDAY MORNING WAS TOLD NOT PART OF POWERTRAIN. COST $531 FOR REPAIR, VERY DANGEROUS AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON A MAJOR ROAD IN DALLAS.. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 65 MPH WHEN MY 2011 FORD ESCAPE BEGAN TO DECELERATE RAPIDLY. I TRIED GIVING IT GAS BUT EVEN WITH THE GAS PETAL PUSHED DOWN ALL THE WAY IT STILL WOULDN'T ACCELERATE AT ALL. I HAD TO PULL OVER IN THE EMERGENCY LANE SO I WASN'T HIT BY THE CAR BEHIND ME. WHEN I CAME TO A STOP THE VEHICLE WAS SHAKING AND I NOTICED THAT A FLASHING WRENCH LIGHT WAS DISPLAYED. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF FOR A MINUTE AND THEN RESTARTED IT WITH NO PROBLEMS. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT'S STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN AND THEY WOULD TAKE A LOOK AT IT. *JB
I WAS DRIVING MY 2011 FORD ESCAPE ON A CROWDED I-4 AROUND ORLANDO FLORIDA WHEN I COMPLETELY LOST POWER ON MY VEHICLE. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AS I BROUGHT THE CAR TO A STOP (BRAKING), THE CAR JERKED FORWARD BEFORE STOPPING. I SHUT OFF THE CAR, AND SAT FOR A FEW MOMENTS, WONDERING WHAT TO DO. THE DASH SHOWED A WRENCH SYMBOL, SO I CHECKED THE MANUAL TO SEE WHAT IT MEANT. IT SAID SOMETHING ABOUT A FAULT AND THE POWERTRAIN. I CHECKED TO SEE IF THE CAR WOULD RESTART AND IT DID. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE, AND APPROXIMATELY 10-15 MINUTES LATER IT DID IT AGAIN. THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL. I MADE IT TO MY DESTINATION AND CALLED MY HUSBAND. HE CHECKED THE INTERNET TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND WAS SHOCKED TO SEE ALL THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS. THANKFULLY, HE READ THAT IF I STAYED UNDER 60 MPH AND DIDN'T DRIVE TOO LONG IT SHOULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN. I TOOK THE BACK WAY HOME AND ALTHOUGH IT WAS MUCH LONGER I MADE IT WITHOUT A FURTHER PROBLEM. WHY IS THIS PROBLEM PART(THROTTLE VALVE) NOT RECALLED. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, AND FOR SAFETY REASONS WHY AREN'T THE OWNERS OF THESE 2011 ESCAPE'S MADE IMMEDIATELY AWARE OF THIS HAZARD. THIS WAS THE CLOSEST I CAME TO A FATAL ACCIDENT AND NOT NECESSARILY MY OWN. *TR
THE SUV STARTS SLOWING DOWN, LOSING POWER AND THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON. I PULLED OVER ,CUT SUV OFF WAIT ABOUT 15MIN AND START SUV BACK UP L WRENCH LIGHT IS NOT ON. MY 2011 FORD ESCAPE HAS NOW HAD SERVICE THREE TIMES IN TWO YEARS FOR "BUCKING/SLIPPING" IN THE TRANSMISSION. THE "BUCKING/SLIPPING" IS EXPERIENCED WITH ALL GEARS BUT GENERALLY WORSE BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD AND JUST STARTING OUT. IT IS ALSO BAD WHEN THE CAR HAS BEEN IDLE FOR MANY DAYS. ALL THREE TIMES ITS BEEN IN FOR SERVICE AT THE FORD DEALER THEY SAY ITS THE ADAPTIVE TRANSMISSION THAT IS THE CULPRIT. THEY REDO THE ALGORITHMS ITS FINE FOR A WEEK THEN GOES BACK TO NORMAL. THE LATEST SERVICE ALSO INCLUDED HAVING THE TRANSMISSION AXLE SEALS REPLACED. *TR
WHEN THE WEATHER STARTED GETTING COLDER, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED OUT HARD TO SHIFT. I TRAVEL FOR WORK AND WHEN I AM IN HEAVY TRAFFIC IT IS DANGEROUS, BECAUSE IT TAKES A WHILE FOR THE CAR TO SHIFT OUT. WHEN IT DOES FINALLY SHIFT, IT IS A HARD SHIFT AND HARD TO CONTROL. *TR

DRIVING IN THE CENTER LANE OF A 3-LANE HIGHWAY I HEARD A LOUD "THUNK" FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT & FELT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SLOWING DOWN. WHEN I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR, I FELT NO RESPONSE & LOOKED AT THE DASH TO SEE THE WRENCH LIGHT ON. I LOOKED OVER TO MAKE SURE THE GEAR SHIFT WAS STILL IN DRIVE, THINKING MAYBE IT HAS SLIPPED INTO NEUTRAL. I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR AGAIN - NOTHING. VEHICLE HAD A STRONG SHAKING/VIBRATION I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER OUT OF TRAFFIC. I SHUT THE CAR OFF & WAS ABLE TO ABLE TO RESTART WITHOUT THE WRENCH LIGHT COMING ON AGAIN. I WILL BE TAKING THE CAR TO FORD DEALER TO BE CHECKED BECAUSE "STALLING" ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY IS NOT SOMETHING I WANT TO EXPERIENCE AGAIN. HOPE THEY FIX THIS PROBLEM!!!! *TR
TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE 57 IN ILLINOIS THAT FEEDS DIRECTLY INTO INTERSTATE 94 AT 60MPH, 6AM AND STILL DARK OUTSIDE. JUST FEET AWAY FROM THE INTERSECTION OF 57 GOING INTO 94, THE CAR BEGAN TO DECELERATE AND WITHIN LITERALLY SECONDS 50-40-30-20...0, THE CAR STOPPED. THE "WRENCH" SIGN WAS SHOWING ON THE DASHBOARD. LUCKILY, I WAS NEXT TO THE SHOULDER, AND WITH ON RESPONSE TO THE GAS PEDAL, PULLED OVER. I ENDED UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION OF BOTH INTERSTATES - 57 AND 94 ON THE SHOULDER THEY SHARED. THE PERSON BEHIND ME PULLED SHARPLY OVER INTO THE NEXT LANE TO AVOID ME. SITTING THERE NERVOUSLY, CARS WERE WHIZZING BY ME. I CALLED THE NON-EMERGENCY NUMBER AND CONNECTED TO THE STATE POLICE WHO ASKED MY LOCATION AND ASSURED ME A TOW TRUCK WOULD COME. AS I SAT THERE NERVOUSLY PRAYING THAT ONCOMING TRAFFIC SAW MY HAZARD LIGHTS, I WONDERED HOW SOMETHING LIKE THIS COULD HAPPEN SO RAPIDLY AND WITHOUT WARNING. LUCKILY, THE TOW TRUCK CAME WITHIN 10 MINUTES AND WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF A STATE POLICE CAR NAVIGATED THROUGH 3 LANES OF ONCOMING, FAST GOING TRAFFIC TO GET ME TO A SAFE AREA ON THE OTHER SIDE OF 94. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF FROM NEUTRAL AND RESTARTING THE CAR RESPONDED NORMALLY. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP WITHOUT INCIDENT WHERE THE THROTTLE WAS REPLACED AFTER 45 MINUTES OF WORK. I ASK THE FORD REPRESENTATIVE WOULD THIS BE REPORTED TO FORD, HE STATED IT WOULD. I ASK COULD THIS HAPPEN AGAIN, HE SAID MOST LIKELY NOT. HE STATE THEY GET "LOTS OF ESCAPES WITH THIS PROBLEM AND THERE WILL PROBABLY BE A RECALL." THIS WAS ONE OF THE MOST SCARIOUS SITUATIONS I HAVE BEEN IN!!! THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR ACCIDENT IF THE CAR HAD STOPPED MINUTES LATER. I WAS MAKING A LEFT OFF OF A BRIDGE AND IT JUST STOPPED GOING FORWARD AND THE THROTTLE WOULDN'T GO. I COULD PUSH GAS PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN AND NOTHING CHANGED I SHUT IT OFF AND IT WAS FINE FOR A COUPLE DAYS THEN SAME THING. SOMETIMES IT GOES A WEEK OR MORE WITH OUT ANY PROBLEM. *JS
VEHICLE HAS STALLED MULTIPLE TIMES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHICH FORD APPARENTLY CALLS "LIMP MODE". ALL POWER TO THE MOTOR WAS GONE. AS THIS ONLY HAS HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, I FEARED FOR MY LIFE THAT I WOULD GET REAR ENDED. APPARENTLY FORD KNOWS OF A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY BUT SINCE THE CAR NEVER KEEPS THE CODE IN THE COMPUTER, FORD WILL NOT DO ANY REPAIRS TO IT. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND AM WORRIED SOMEONE WILL BE KILLED BY THIS PROBLEM AND THE UNWILLINGNESS OF FORD TO REPAIR IT. ONCE I COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN OFF THE MOTOR.... WAIT A MINUTE... AND RESTART THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES TO ME ALREADY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 55 MPH. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LUNGE FORWARD AND THEN STOPPED RUNNING. I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF OF THE HIGHWAY, BUT IT WAS DARK. I LET THE CAR SIT FOR A MOMENT. IT THEN STARTED UP AND I WENT BACK ON THE ROAD. IT THEN BEGAN TO LUNGE AND STOPPED AGAIN. THE WRENCH LIGHT SHOWED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BOTH TIMES. BY THE MANUAL, IT SHOWED A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS FAULTY, BUT THAT DUE TO THE MILEAGE, IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. I PAID $426.00 TO GET IT FIXED. WHEN I PICKED THE VEHICLE UP I ASKED THEM IF THIS WAS A RECALL AS I SAW COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET. THE TECHNICIAN SAID NOT YET, BUT TO KEEP MY PAPERWORK AS IT PROBABLY WOULD BE A RECALL AT SOME POINT. *TR
I WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN AS I STRAIGHTEN OUT MY CAR FROM THE TURN MY CAR LOST POWER. I HAD MY FOOT ON THE GAS BUT WASN'T GOING FORWARD AND THE VEHICLE WAS SHAKING REALLY BAD. THE IRONIC THING IS I FELT A TUG HERE AND THERE BEFORE BUT I THOUGHT I WAS BEING PARANOID. I DON'T THINK I WAS!!! THANK GOODNESS I HAD TURNED OUT OF TRAFFIC. I DIDN'T WANT TO TURN IT ON AGAIN I REMEMBERED I HAD A TOW CARD FROM WHEN I BOUGHT MY VEHICLE. IF THIS IS SOME DEFECT I NEED TO KNOW. I HAD MY LAST VEHICLE FOR 11 YEARS AND NEVER DID SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN. I BOUGHT A NEW CAR SO THAT I DON'T GET STRANDED AND I DID GET STRANDED. I HAD IT TOWED TO MAXWELL FORD AFTER THEY TESTED IT TODAY I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE POWER TRAIN WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVED TO THE SHOULDER BUT THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO BE RESTART AND DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER HOWEVER, THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,690. UPDATED 01/05/13*LJ UPDATED 02/11/2013*JS

8/18/12 WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 60 MPH MY TRUCK SUDDENLY LOST POWER. THE WRENCH LIGHT ON THE DASH CAME ON AND THE TRUCK BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN IN THE MIST OF TRAFFIC. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE AND NEEDED TO PULL OVER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. AFTER MUCH EFFORT I WAS ABLE TO DO SO. IT WAS A VERY SCARY SITUATION. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES BEFORE RESTARTING THE ENGINE. IT STARTED UP OKAY AND I PULLED OUT AND STAYED IN THE RIGHT LANE. A FOURTH OF A MILE LATER IT DID IT AGAIN. THIS TIME THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. CARS WERE BLOWING THERE HORNS AND I ALMOST GOT HIT A COUPLE OF TIMES. MY DAUGHTER WAS IN THE CAR WITH ME IT SCARED HER SO BAD SHE BEGAN TO CRY. WE WERE A GOOD DISTANCE FROM HOME. I DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO OR WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH THE TRUCK. I'D ONLY HAD IT FOUR MONTHS. IF THERE WERE OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS HAPPENING, WHY HASN'T SOMETHING BEEN DONE? A RECALL MAYBE? -HARSH JERKING WHILE FOOT ON BRAKE AND SHIFTING FROM ANY GEAR TO DRIVE, IT'S AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION -AT THE SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, BRAKING FOR THE STOP SIGN, IT JERKED FORWARD FIRST BEFORE SPEED WAS REDUCED FORTUNATELY, IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS TRANSMISSION CENTER SUPPORT DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER IN AN ACCIDENT AND IT WAS PURCHASED NEW. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED 14.5 MONTHS AFTER I TOOK OWNERSHIP OF THE VEHICLE AND HAD ABOUT 9,330 MILES ON IT. IT WAS A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN IT JERKED FORWARD BEFORE SPEED WAS REDUCED AND FOR A NEW VEHICLE TO HAVE "TRANSMISSION CENTER SUPPORT DAMAGE" - CERTAINLY NOT CONFIDENT THAT IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN BEFORE 20,000 MILES. *TR
WHILE CRUISING AT CONSTANT SPEED ON THE INTERSTATE, THE "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON AND CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN. FIRST REACTION WAS TO PRESS ACCELERATOR PEDAL BUT IT WAS UNRESPONSIVE ONLY BY LUCK WE WERE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WERE ABLE TO COAST TO A SAFE STOP. AFTER STOPPING, THE CAR WAS PLACED IN PARK AND THE ENGINE REMAINED ON BUT IDLED VERY ROUGH. THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CLEARED AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL APPEARED TO WORK AGAIN SO WE TRIED TO DRIVE ON. A SHORT DISTANCE LATER THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND THE SAME THING WITH THE GAS PEDAL. AT THAT POINT WE CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND TRANSPORTED THE CAR TO A LOCAL FORD REPAIR SHOP. THE FORD SHOP CLAIMED THERE WERE NO CODES STORED AND EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT OK AND SAID MAYBE WE RAN THROUGH SOME WATER AND SENT US ON OUR WAY. TWO DAYS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN UNDER IDENTICAL CONDITIONS. WE WERE ABLE TO GET IT TO A DIFFERENT FORD SHOP AND THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. THEY ALSO STATED THERE WERE NO CODES BUT APPARENTLY OUR WORD WAS GOOD ENOUGH THIS TIME. THE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR COMMENTED THEY HAVE SEEN THIS ISSUE FREQUENTLY. I ALSO WAS DISCUSSING THIS WITH A COWORKER AND FOUND OUT THEY HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN ON THEIR 2011 ESCAPE. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURE OR DESIGN OF THIS PART OR PROGRAMMING. IF FORD DOESN'T ADDRESS THIS SOON, THERE WILL BE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS IF THERE HASN'T BEEN ALREADY. *TR
WHEN VEHICLE PARKED AND THEN STARTED AND FOOT ON BRAKE WENT TO PUT SELECTOR IN REVERSE AND AND NOTHING HAPPENED AND WHEN IT ENGAGED INTO REVERSE IT ENGAGE LOUD AND HARD INTO GEAR AND HAS DONE THIS ABOUT 3 TIMES NOW IN THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS. *TR
WHILE TOWING MY 2011 FORD ESCAPE LIMITED BEHIND MY RV BUS, THE TRANSMISSION BURNED UP. I DID EVERYTHING THAT WAS TAUGHT TO ME BY FORD DEALERSHIP IN GURNEE, IL, CAMPING WORLD IN FOX LAKE, IL AND THE FORD MANUAL. THE MADISON, TENNESSEE FORD DEALERSHIP TRIED TO BLAME ROADMASTER FOR THE PROBLEM. ROADMASTER IS THE MAKER OF THE TOWING SYSTEM (BARS, ELECTRICAL WIRING FOR LIGHTS AND THE EVEN BRAKE SYSTEM). THAT MADE NO SENSE AT ALL. I CHALLENGED THEM ON THAT AND THEN THEY ASKED ME TO GO OVER WHAT I DO TO TOW THE VEHICLE AND AFTER I EXPLAINED ALL THE STEPS, THEY SAID THAT I DID EVERYTHING CORRECTLY. I DROVE NO FASTER THAN 60 MPH IN MY WHOLE TRIP (CHICAGO TO NASHVILLE) AND EVEN STOPPED EVERY 3-4 HOURS TO START THE VEHICLE AND GO THROUGH THE GEARS, AS TAUGHT. THIS VEHICLE HAS 7600 MILES ON IT AND JUST 1200 MILES TOWING ON IT. SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS DEALERSHIP AND FORD DOES NOT WANT TO ADMIT THAT ITS OWN TRANSMISSION DID NOT WANT TO LUBE ITSELF TO KEEP IT FROM BURNING UP. FORD HAS NOT ANSWERED ANY OF MY 2 EMAILS SENT TO THEM ABOUT THIS AND THE DEALERSHIP JUST KEEPS BRUSHING ME OFF. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THEY NEEDED PERMISSION FROM ME TO TAKE APART THE TRANSMISSION TO SEE WHAT THEY NEED TO REPLACE. WHY, I DO NOT KNOW THAT THEY NEEDED PERMISSION. I HAD IT TOWED THERE TO GET REPAIRED. IT IS CLEARLY SOME DEFECT WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION, THEY JUST DO NOT WANT TO OWN UP TO IT. THE CONSUMER SENT IN AN UPDATE VIA PORTABLE: JUST WANTED TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE ON THIS. FORD CALLED ME YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AND SAID THAT THEY WILL PAY FOR EVERYTHING NOW. I TOLD THEM I WAS DOING THESE COMPLAINTS AND FINALLY SOMEONE CALLED ME. SO, UNKNOWN IF YOU STILL WANT TO POST IT OR NOT. I WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW OF THIS. IT MAY TAKE A WEEK OR SO BEFORE I CAN GET MY CAR, THE DEALERSHIP IS CLAIMING IT MAY TAKE THAT LONG TO GET THE PARTS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REVERSING AT A LOW SPEED IN THE DRIVEWAY, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND A LOUD GRINDING NOISE WAS HEARD. THE VEHICLE THEN LUNGED FORWARD WHEN SHIFTING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR, CAUSING A CLANKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE TSB CHIP WAS REPLACED, AND THE PCM WAS REPROGRAMMED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, AS THE CONTACT ALSO FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,750.
