TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CRUISE CONTROL FAILED, AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AS A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL SWITCH. THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL 05V388000 - VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL. THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE REPAIR HAD ALREADY BEEN MADE TO THE VEHICLE FOR THE PREVIOUS OWNER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,000, AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000. UPDATED 5/5/08 *CN
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION. AFTER BEING PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY FOR TWO AND A HALF HOURS, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WELL. SMOKE AND FLAMES BEGAN POURING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONTACT'S HOME THEN CAUGHT FIRE AND WAS DAMAGED EXTENSIVELY. THE FIRE MARSHALL BELIEVES THAT THE FIRE WAS DIRECTLY RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V017000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CRUISE CONTROL). THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. 2000 FORD EXPEDITION CAUGHT FIRE. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SAID THAT THE FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. CONSUMER THEN FOUND OUT THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A RECALL FOR THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH. *KB
ON 07/28/2007 MY 2000 FORD EXPEDITION WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVE WAY WE HAD GOTTEN BACK FROM THE STORE AN HOUR AGO WHEN MY LAND LORD COMES KNOCKING ON MY DOOR SAYING YOUR TRUCK IS ON FIRE SO WE WENT OUTSIDE AND IT WAS FLAMING THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND PUT IT OUT I CHECKED FOR ANY RECALLS ON THIS TRUCK AND THERE WAS ONE FOR THE SPEED DEACTIVATION SWITCH I CALLED FORD AND THEY SAID SOMEONE WOULD BE CALLING ME SO A WEEK GOES BY AND I GET THIS LETTER SAYING THAT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO HELP ME IN ANY WAY BECAUSE THEIR RECORDS SHOWED THAT THEY SENT A LETTER IN 03/23/2006 I TOLD THEM THAT I WAS THE 2ND OWNER OF THIS TRUCK AND I NEVER GOT THIS LETTER SO THEY SAID TO BAD NO WE WILL NOT HELP YOU 4 DAYS LATER I GET THIS FORD LETTER SAYING THAT THEIR RECORDS HAD UP DATED AND THAT I WAS NOW THE CURRENT OWNER OF THIS TRUCK TO PLEASE TAKE IT IN TO HAVE THE RECALL DONE TO IT I CALLED BACK AND THE SAME THING THEY SAID NO NO NO. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED FOR AN HOUR BEFORE IT BURST INTO FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND STATED THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN # 05V017000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CRUISE CONTROL). THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 69,864.
1 1/2 HOURS AFTER PARKING THE CAR IN OUR GARAGE WE HEARD SOMETHING IN THE GARAGE AND FOUND THE EXPEDITION ON FIRE. AS A RESULT OUR HOUSE BURNED. *AK

WE HAD BEEN ADVISED REGARDING THE RECALL ON THE SPEED CONTROL. BEFORE THE PART WAS AVAILABLE, WE HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE. AT THE TIME, THE SERVICE DEPT. DEACTIVATED THE SWITCH. BEFORE THE PART WAS INSTALLED, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE AND WAS BEYOND REPAIR. WE INFORMED THE FORD COMPANY AND A LETTER WAS SENT TO US STATING THAT THIS WAS OUR FAULT FOR NOT HAVING THE PART INSTALLED. *TR
THE EXPEDITION CAUGHT ON FIRE AND BURNED TO THE GROUND ON MAY 17, 2007 WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY 5 FEET FROM MY HOUSE AND 5 FEET FROM MY HUSBAND'S TRUCK PARKED IN FRONT OF IT, PART OF MY HUSBANDS TRUCK , FENCE AND HOUSE BURNED. *AK

ON JAN 31, 2007 IN THE PARKING LOT AT 9935 WALKER IN CYPRESS, CA. THE INCIDENT (FIRE) STARTED APPROXIMATELY AT 5:30 PM. THE 2000 FORD EXPEDITION WAS PARKED FOR APPROXIMATELY 1:00 HR BEFORE THE FIRE STARTED, A PASSER BY SAW THE FIRE START IN THE LEFT FRONT SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. MY SON DRIVING THE CAR AT THE TIME CAME OUT FROM WORK AND THE WHOLE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. ORANGE COUNTY FIRE AND CYPRESS POLICE DEPARTMENT WAS ON SITE. WHEN I ARRIVED THE FIRE WAS OUT, AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RULED OUT ARSON. A PASSER BY IN ANOTHER FORD EXPEDITION TOLD US AT THE SITE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL SWITCH. I LOOKED INTO IT ON THE INTERNET AND YES THERE IS, 2000 FORD EXPEDITION RECALL 05V017000 RELEASED ON 27 JAN 2005. I AM THE SECOND OR THIRD PARTY OWNER AND DIDN'T KNOW ANY THING ABOUT THE RECALL. I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY THE NEXT DAY. *JB
TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACTS VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE DUE TO THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE4 AND THERE WAS NO NEED TO CONTACT THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OR OBTAIN A REPORT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,291. THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE WIRING HARNESS WERE ATTACHED TO THE SWITCH AND DAMAGED DURING THE FIRE. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DAMAGES TO THE VEHICLE. THEY DEALER STATED THAT THEY SENT HIM FIVE NOTICES AND HE DIDN'T RESPOND TO ANY OF THEM. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE DIDN'T RECEIVE ANY OF THEM. THE CONTACT WAS THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE CAR. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 83,296. *AK
TL* - THE 2000 FORD EXPEDITION'S SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH OVERHEATED AND CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CONTACT SAW SMOKE IN THE VEHICLE. THE IGNITION WAS OFF AND THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY HER NEIGHBOR THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE WAS CONTAINED TO THE CRUISE CONTROL COMPARTMENT. THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND WAS INJURED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. PER NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER : 05V017000; THIS CONDITION COULD LEAD TO A FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS, AND WAS NOT SEEN BY A DEALER. THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL# 05V388000 WHICH PERTAINED TO THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A PARKING LOT AT AN APARTMENT COMPLEX, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE ORIGINATED FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THERE WERE FOUR-FIVE OTHER VEHICLES DAMAGED AS A RESULT OF THE FIRE. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL # 05V017000, REGARDING THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL;CRUISE CONTROL. THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT.
2000 FORD EXPEDITION BRAKES FAILED AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. UPON INSPECTION MECHANIC DETERMINED THERE WAS A FAULTY CRUISE CONTROL PART. *KB *JB
DT: TRUCK STARTED SMOKING AND CAUGHT ON FIRE IN PARKING LOT. THE FIRE OCCURED PRIOR TO THE CONSUMER RECEIVING THE RECALL NOTICE FOR THE FAULTY CRUISE CONTROL WHICH CAUSED THE FIRE. THE TRUCK WAS TOTALED. *AK *NM
ON AUGUST 7, 2005, MY WIFE, 3 YEAR OLD SON AND I DROVE OUR 2000 FORD EXPEDITION UP TO WISCONSIN TO MY UNCLE'S LAKE COTTAGE. THE TRIP WAS AROUND 120 MILES ONE WAY. WE DROVE HOME, ANOTHER 120 MILES, AND PARKED THE EXPEDITION IN OUR GARAGE ABOUT 7:30 PM. IT HAD RUN FLAWLESSLY, AND THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS EVIDENT WITH THE VEHICLE. AT ABOUT 2:30 AM ON AUGUST 8, MY WIFE AND I AWOKE TO THE SOUND OF OUR SMOKE DETECTORS IN OUR HOUSE, AND THE HOUSE WAS FILLED WITH SMOKE. MY WIFE RAN AHEAD OF ME OUT OF THE HOUSE, AND I CRAWLED INTO OUR SON'S ROOM DOWN THE HALL. HE WAS STILL ASLEEP, AND I REACHED UP, FELT HIS BODY, GRABBED HIM AND TORE DOWN THE STAIRS OUT THE FRONT DOOR. OUR NEIGHBORS WERE ALREADY OUTSIDE AS THEY HAD HEARD CRACKLING AND BANGING FROM THE GARAGE- IT WAS TOTALLY SWALLOWED BY FLAMES. I HAD A '98 F-150 4X4 THAT WAS PARKED OUTSIDE THE GARAGE, AND WHEN THE GARAGE DOOR FELL AND THE WHOLE HOUSE WENT UP IN FLAMES, IT CAUGHT ON FIRE TOO AND WAS TOTALED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENTS FROM 5 TOWNS ALL SHOWED UP AND PUT THE FIRE OUT. BY THE TIME THEY ARRIVED, OUR HOUSE AND BOTH VEHICLES WERE COMPLETELY DESTROYED, AND THE EAST SIDE OF OUR NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE HAD THE SIDING, WINDOWS AND ROOFING BURNED OFF.....THAT HOUSE IS OVER 75 FEET AWAY FROM OURS. MY WIFE, MY SON, OUR DOG, AND I ALL GOT OUT SAFE - WE LOST OUR FAMILY CAT. WE LOST NEARLY EVERY SINGLE MATERIAL POSSESSION WE OWN IN THIS FIRE....AND FURTHER INVESTIGATION BY OUR INSURANCE COMPANIES AND FORD HAVE DEEMED IT WAS INDEED THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH THAT STARTED THE FIRE. WE NOW ARE LIVING IN A RENTAL HOUSE WAITING FOR OUR BURNED HOUSE TO BE REBUILT....IT HAS BEEN NEARLY 4 MONTHS AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE DUE TO PERMIT COMPLICATIONS. *JB

I HAVE A OR SHOULD I SAY HAD A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION. ON MONDAY JANUARY 3, 2005 MY CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT STARTED BLINKING ON MY DASHBOARD. ON WED. JAN.5, 2004 I DROVE IT TO WORK, PARKED IT IN THE PARKING LOT AT 7:30AM AND AT 9:30AM THEY RAN IN TO TELL ME MY CAR WAS ON FIRE. THE CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS! THE FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE.*AK

FIRE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT THE FIRE STARTED IN THE FRONT ENGINE AREA. THERE WERE NO INDICATION WHATSOEVER THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG WITH THIS VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD REGULAR MULTI-POINT INSPECTIONS. LATER CONSUMER FINDS THAT FORD HAS HAD PROBLEMS (PER CHANNEL 7 LOCAL NEWS) WITH CRUISE CONTROL ISSUES. AFTER THIS HAPPENED, FORD WAS NOTIFIED, BUT WOULDN'T TALK TO CONSUMER. *TT THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THE DEALER REPLACED THE ABS SENSOR. A WORN IDLER ARM CAUSED NOISE AND VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. *NM

THE FIRE DEPTARTMENT WAS CALLED, AND THEY DETERMINED THAT THE FIRE ORIGINATED UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. SHE HAS NOT YET TALKED TO FORD. THE VEHICLE HAS CRUISE CONTROL. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TOLD HER THERE WAS A RECALL 05V017000. SHE WAS NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER, AND S NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. *AK
DT: THE CONSUMER HAS FORD EXPEDITION 2000. VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN GARAGE AT APPROXIMATELY 10:00 AM ON AUGUST 2, 2005. VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND GARAGE WAS CLOSED, AND AT APPROXIMATELY 1:00 PM, AFTER SMELLING SMOKE THEY DISCOVERED AN INTENSE FIRE UNDER THE HOOD THAT AGGRESSIVELY GREW AND WITHIN A COUPLE OF MINUTES AND CONSUMED THE ENTIRE GARAGE.HOME AND BUSINESS. THEIR HOME IS OVER 80 PERCENT BURNED, THEY LOST BOTH VEHICLES IN FIRE. THE PEOPLE ESCAPED THE FIRE. *AK *NM
