SAME AS EVERYONE ELSE DRIVING NORMALLY AND TRUCK COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF 4 DIFFERENT TIMES ALL DIFFERENTLY I CHANGED THE FUEL PUMP DRIVER MODULE HAD FUEL TANK DROPPED AND CHANGED FUEL FILTER AND PUMP I'M NOT GOING TO LIE I LOVE MY BABY SHE'S BEEN GOOD TO ME BESIDES THIS I HAVE 250,000 PLUS MILES ON HER AND COUNTING AND NEVER FACED PROBS TILL NOW I'VE RECENTLY THIS YEAR (TECHNICALLY) REBUILT HER MOTOR AND THAT'S IT . MY 2005 EXPEDITION WAS TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF 40MPH WHEN IT STOPPED ACCELERATING AND DIED IN TRAFFIC WHILE I WAS TAKING MY KIDS TO SCHOOL. I COULDN'T TURN THE STIRRING WHEEL TO GET OFF OF THE ROAD. I WAS DRIVING ON FOUR LANE HIGHWAY IN RIGHT LANE AT 40MPH. I NOTICED THE CAR STARTING TO SLOW DOWN AND WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL IT DID NOT REACT AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO SLOW DOWN. I LOOKED AT MY GAUGES ON THE DASH AND THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS AND ALL GAUGES READ NORMALLY. I THOUGHT I COULD SMELL SMOKE, AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO SLOW DOWN, AND I KNEW I NEEDED TO GET OFF THE ROAD AS TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY. AS I PULLED OFF THE ROAD INTO THE PARKING LOT FOR THE STRIP MALL, THE CAR STALLED, LIGHTS CAME ON THE DASH TO INDICATE THE CAR STALLED AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR, PUT IT IN PARK AND TURN THE CAR OFF. I COULD SMELL SMOKE AND I COULD SEE SMOKE GOING OUT THE CAR WINDOWS FROM INSIDE THE CAR AS I HAD THE WINDOWS OPEN A COUPLE OF INCHES. THERE WAS NO SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I DEBATED WHETHER TO CALL AAA OR 911. AS THE SMOKE INCREASED I CALLED 911. I THEN WENT TO THE CAR TO GET MY PURSE. WHEN I OPENED THE PASSENGER FRONT DOOR THE CAR WAS FILLED WITH SMOKE AND I THOUGHT I COULD SEE FIRE IN THE MIDDLE ROW OF SEAT ON THE FLOOR. I OPENED THE BACK DOOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND SAW FLAMES SHOOTING UP FROM THE FLOOR 6 INCHES HIGH IN THE CENTER OF THE FLOOR. I TRIED TO PUT OUT THE FIRE WITH A SNOW SCRAPER WITH THE BRUSH END, BUT I WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL. I ASKED THE DRY CLEANING LADY IF SHE HAD A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. IT TOOK 30 SECONDS TO GET THE EXTINGUISHER AND ON MY WAY BACK TO THE CAR, I COULD SEE FLAMES UNDER THE CAR AND WHEN I OPENED THE BACK PASSENGER DOOR THE FIRE HAD SPREAD TO THE BACK SEAT. I WAS FEARFUL FOR HOW FAST THE FIRE SPREAD AND THE SMOKE PREVENTED ME FROM REACHING THE FIRE WITH THE EXTINGUISHER. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT THEN ARRIVED AND IT TOOK THEM 15-20 MINUTES TO PUT OUT THE FIRE AS THE FLAMES WERE SHOOTING AT LEAST 20 FEET INTO THE AIR. THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND A WARNING NOTIFICATION APPEARED, INDICATING THERE WAS A CHARGING SYSTEM FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE COMPUTER HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

CARS SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING! I HAVE EXPERIENCE THIS FOUR TIMES AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CAR SHUTS OFF AND THE CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON. TWICE HAVE BEEN ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MILES PER HOUR WITHOUT WARNING. BOTH TIMES I WAS ABLE TO START ENGINE BY PUTTING IT IN NEUTRAL WHILE DRIVING. ALTHOUGH I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND PERFORMING THIS TECHNIQUE AS YOU MAY ACCIDENTALLY PUT THE CAR INTO REVERSE AND AT THAT SPEED IT COULD BE RISKY. HOWEVER, I HAD NO CHOICE BECAUSE OF THE LANE I WAS IN. AS MOST HAVE MENTIONED, THIS IS SERIOUS PROBLEM ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING WITH FAMILY IN VEHICLE. MY WIFE WILL NOT DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE SHE'S AFRAID...I DON'T BLAME HER. FORD SELLS ITSELF AS A FAMILY ORIENTED COMPANY SO LETS PROTECT OUR FAMILIES AND FIX THE PROBLEM. THESE COMPLAINTS DATE AS FAR BACK AS 2005. OUR VEHICLE IS A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION LIMITED. ON TWO OCCASIONS THIS VEHICLE HAS UNEXPEDTEDLY LOST ALL POWER WITH THE MESSAGE "CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE" APPEARING. ON ONE OCCASSION WE WERE MAKING A LEFT TURN ON A BUSY ROAD. WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WE WERE STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC HAVING TO STOP SUDDENLY TO KEEP FROM HITTING US BROADSIDE. TURNING OFF THE IGNITION AND RESTARTING THE CAR MADE THE PROBLEM GO AWAY. LAST WEEK MY WIFE AND SON WERE IN THE VEHICLE COMING TO A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION. WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. MY WIFE HAD TO BREAK HARD AND NARROWLY MISSED HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF HER. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. AFTER RESAEARCHING THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET IT APPEARS THAT BOTH THESE PROBLEMS ARE COMMON WITH THE 2005 EXPEDITION. IF THIS VEHICLE HAS NOT SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED SOMEONE YET IT IS AMAZING AND JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE IT HAPPENS. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS PROBLEM IS BEING IGNORED BY FORD! *TT

I WAS TRAVELING W/B ON I-96 NEAR THE OKEMOS EXIT WHEN MY 2005 FORD EXPEDITION'S ENGINE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. A WARNING STATING, "CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL" CAME ON. I EXITED THE EXPRESS WAY. THE ENGINE STILL RAN IN IDLE, BUT WOULD NOT RUN ANY FASTER THAN THAT. I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT BEGAN RUNNING NORMALLY AGAIN. APPROXIMATELY FIVE MINUTES LATER, WHILE I WAS EXITING A PARKING LOT, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RUN AT ALL AND THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND IT RAN FINE. HOWEVER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS NOW ILLUMINATED. I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE AND HAVE OBSERVED THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR MANY PEOPLE. THERE ARE FORUMS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM FOUND ON COUNTLESS WEBSITES. FURTHERMORE, THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAVELING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION WHEN THIS OCCURRED I COULD HAVE BEEN HIT. THIS EXPEDITION HAS HAD MANY ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS INCLUDING: TURN SIGNAL FAILURE, FUEL PUMP MODULE FAILURE, LIGHTS AND SIGNALS RANDOMLY NOT WORKING, WIPERS RANDOMLY NOT WORKING, ETC. I HAVE SPENT A LOT OF MONEY REPAIRING THESE ISSUES. I AM FED UP WITH THEM AND I AM CONTACTING YOU TODAY BECAUSE THE ELECTRICAL ISSUES IN THIS CAR ARE FINALLY BECOMING UNSAFE. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED FORD AND AM WAITING FOR A RESPONSE. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS APPROXIMATELY 92,000 MILES ON IT AND IS STILL UNDER AN EXTENDED POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. *TR

THERE WERE 5 PEOPLE IN THE VEHICLE INCLUDING TWO YOUNG CHILDREN. VERY DANGEROUS! THIS HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING. AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES, THE VEHICLE STARTED UP AGAIN WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. MY 2005 FORD EXPEDITION WILL SUDDENLY TURN OFF WHILE IN MOTION WITH NO WARNING. THERE IS NO PATTERN TO DETERMINE WHEN IT WILL TURN OFF. IN THE 6 MONTHS I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE, IT HAS TURNED OFF CLOSE TO A DOZEN TIMES, AT SPEEDS RANGING FROM 20 MILES AN HOUR TO FULL FREEWAY SPEED. THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT TURNS ON. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A REPUTABLE MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AS THE CODE REPORTED THAT THE ERROR OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF - WHICH IS TECHNICALLY IMPOSSIBLE. RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE, AND IT IS OBVIOUSLY DANGEROUS FOR A VEHICLE TO TURN OFF WHILE IT IS IN MOTION. I AM ALMOST 6 MONTHS PREGNANT AND TRANSPORT 4 YOUNG CHILDREN TO AND FROM SCHOOL. WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH IN MORNING RUSH HOUR ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY A MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DISPLAY BOARD STATING CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE SENSOR VEHICLE THEN IMMEDIATELY DIED AND I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER ATTEMPTING TO AVOID ANY COLLISIONS. ONCE I CAME TO A STOP I PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND TURNED THE IGNITION OFF. AFTER A FEW MINUTES I RESTARTED THE CAR WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. THE MESSAGE ON THE DISPLAY SCREEN WAS NO LONGER THERE BUT THE CHECK ENGINE WAS ON. FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE DAY I HAD NO FURTHER ISSUES. THE FOLLOWING DAY AFTER WORK IT HAPPENED AGAIN IN 5:00 TRAFFIC. ONCE RETURNING HOME I BEGAN TO DO SOME RESEARCH ON THIS ISSUE. TO MY SURPRISE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING THIS ISSUE. THERE ARE 100'S OF POST ON LINE IN MULTIPLE PLACES INQUIRING ABOUT THIS ISSUE. MY CONCERN IS THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY AND OTHERS THAT MAY BE ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS ISSUE OCCURS. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 65MPH AND THE "CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL" LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN MY VEHICLE ENGINE SHUT OFF. I HAD TO PULL OVER WITH NO POWER AND LITTLE ABILITY TO TURN BEFORE VEHICLE WOULD RESTART. IT HAS DONE THIS NOW THREE TIMES. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE COST FOR REPAIRS BUT DUE TO THE HIGH EXPENSE ($500) I AM NOT ABLE AT THIS TIME TO FIX. *TR

WHILE DRIVING OUR 2005 FORD EXPEDITION THE "CHECK THROTTLE" LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY QUIT RUNNING AND FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP. WE CALLED OUR FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THEY THOUGHT A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM. WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THEN THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. IT COSTS US $626.37. WE HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM ON 2005 FORD EXPEDITIONS. WAS TOLD WHEN WE CALLED FORD HEADQUARTERS THAT WE NEEDED TO FILE A COMPLAINT. *TR

AS I WAS DRIVING TO MY OFFICE SHORTLY AFTER NOON TODAY, AN ALERT APPEARED "CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE SYSTEM." MY EXPEDITION WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, I COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT AND TRIED TO ACCELERATE, BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED MY VEHICLE - I COULD THEN ACCELERATE MY VEHICLE AND CONTINUED TO MY OFFICE. THIS IS WAS A VERY SCARY INCIDENT, THANKFULLY I WAS THE ONLY ONE IN MY VEHICLE TODAY; MY GRANDSON IS SOMETIMES WITH ME. I AM ALSO THANKFUL THAT I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE, SO I WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO THE PARKING LOT. *TR

I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 70MPH WHEN THE MESSAGE CENTER TONE SOUNDED AND THE MESSAGE READ "CHECK THROTTLE CONTROL". THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN, HOWEVER, THE ACCELERATOR BECAME INOPERABLE. IT SEEMS AS IF A LOT OF 05 EXPEDITION OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS JUST WAY TO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE WITH THIS ISSUE. I NEVER DRIVE IN THE MIDDLE LANE ON HIGHWAYS NOW FOR FEAR THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN AT ANY TIME. *TR

THIS IS THE 5TH TIME THIS PARTICULAR MALFUNCTION HAS OCCURRED WITHIN A 4 MONTH PERIOD. WHILE CRUISING AT LOW SPEED (5-15 MPH) IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATES AND THE VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN. WITH THE VEHICLE ENGINE OFF THERE ISN'T ANY POWER STEERING AND DRIVER MUST MANEUVER SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, PLACE VEHICLE IN PARK AND RESTART THE ENGINE. THE ERROR MESSAGE IS ABOUT THE THROTTLE CONTROL AND THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD WITH 64,000 MILES. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN ESPECIALLY AT HIGH RATES OF SPEED AND THE PART IS NOT COVERED BY THE VEHICLE WARRANTY. I WENT TO THE FORD DEALER WHERE WE PURCHASED VEHICLE AND WAS CHARGED $684.00 TO REPLACE THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL. THAT'S WHEN I LEARNED THAT THIS MALFUNCTION HAS RECENTLY BEEN OCCURRING ON SEVERAL 2005 FORD EXPEDITION VEHICLES IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS. APPARENTLY, THERE IS NO FORD RECALL FOR THIS PART AND IT IS A TRUE SAFETY CONCERN FOR ALL FORD EXPEDITION OWNERS. *TR

ON MY 2005 FORD EXPEDITION I HAVE GOTTEN AN ALERT OF "CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE SYSTEM". ON TWO OCCASIONS WHEN THIS ALERT HAS SOUNDED, THE VEHICLE HAS DIED OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAVEL AND I HAD TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROADWAY TO RESTART. ON TWO OTHER OCCASIONS WHEN THIS ALERT HAS SOUNDED, THE VEHICLE DID NOT DIE BUT I WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE. I HAD TO STOP AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN YOU ARE TRAVELING DOWN THE ROADWAY AND YOUR CAR EITHER DIES OUT OR LOSSES POWER. AFTER THE SECOND OCCURANCE I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY FOUND NOTHING WHEN HOOKED UP TO THE COMPUTER. THEY COULD DO NOTHING. THE VEHICLE RUNS FINE OTHER THAN THIS. THERE IS NO WARNING WHATSOEVER THAT THIS IS GOING TO OCCUR. *TR

WHILE DRIVING, CHECK ENGINE THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON. THE CAR ESSENTIALLY SHUTS DOWN - LOSES ACCELERATION, POWER STEERING, ETC. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES...DECEMBER 10, 2008, FEBRUARY 23, 2009, AND MARCH 2, 2009. THE CAR WILL START AGAIN IF YOU TURN IT OFF AND RE-START IT. THIS CAN BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IF IT HAPPENS AT A POINT WHERE IT'S HARD TO PULL OVER. AFTER READING MESSAGE BOARDS, IT SEEMS TO BE A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM IN 2005 EXPEDITIONS. *TR
