The contact owns a 2006 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while coming to a stop, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to function as intended. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle returned to normal function afterwards. The local dealer was contacted; however, the dealer refused to diagnose the vehicle because of its age of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while the contact's husband was driving at a slow speed, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to function as intended. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to stop and continued rolling forward. The contact's husband stated that the vehicle came to a stop once the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, he had to forcefully depress the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving to his residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V208000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 165,000.
Random brake loss due to hydraulic control unit for ABS. The loss of brakes on more than 5 occasions has nearly caused several accidents as brakes fail to engage in traffic situations. The problem cannot be reproduced by automotive repair shops due to the random nature of the events. Inspection of the component does not reveal any problem. The component functions properly 80% of the time. There has never been any warning of any sort prior to the event happening which is why the severity of the incidents are not only surprising but have put me and other drivers at risk. These HCU components have had similar failures in other ford vehicles. Recalls are listed for those vehicles such as the MZk, Fusion, Millan.

BRAKES FAILED AT LOW SPEED AVOIDING INCIDENT. LOST VACUUM TO BRAKING SYSTEM RESULTING IN STIFF MANUAL STYLE BRAKING. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V208000(SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:VACUUM:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS WAS THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. LATER, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE CONTACT ENGAGED THE BRAKES AS HARD AS POSSIBLE BUT THE BRAKES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT ABRUPTLY APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS RESISTANT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER VACUUM HOSES WERE DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. SHE CALLED THE DEALER THAT PERFORMED THE RECALL AND WAS ADVISED TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN TO HAVE THE REPAIR WORK PERFORMED AT THE MANUFACTURER'S EXPENSE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.

I OWN A 2006 FORD F150 TRUCK WITH 44,000 MILES ON IT. OVER THE PAST MONTH OR SO IT HAS DEVELOPED A SEVERE BRAKING ISSUE WHICH WHEN UNDER MODERATE TO HEAVY BRAKING CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO SHUDDER SEVERELY AND MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO STOP. IT OCCURS EVERTIME YOU APPLY THE BRAKES. I HAVE SPOKEN TO OTHER F150 OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE ON THE SAME VEHICLE AND THE 2007 MODEL ALSO. THE BRAKE PADS ARE IN GOOD CONDITION, HOWEVER THE BREAK ROTORS HAVE A VERY UNUSUAL SCRATCH PATTERNS RUNNING FROM THE CENTER OF THE BRAKE ROTOR SURFACE TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE SURFACE. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS ON A VEHICLE BEFORE. I DO KNOW THAT ONE FELLOW HAD TO REPLACE ALL 4 OF HIS BRAKE ROTORS ON A 2007 MODEL TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, NOT NORMAL IF YOU ASK ME. I HAVE SEEN THIS SAME COMPLAINT ON OTHER CONSUMER WEB SITES FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE POWER ASSIST VACUUM FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO LOCATE A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V208000 -SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: POWER ASSIST: VACUUM: HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALER THAT HIV VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED TAKING THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000.

WE HAVE A CORRODED ABS BRAKE WIRE ON OUR 2006 FORD F150 TRUCK. THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. WE TOOK IT TO OUR DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER OUR EXTENDED WARRANTY DUE TO CORROSION. I CALLED FORD ESP AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING (DOES NOT STATE THIS IN COVERAGES). WHEN I ASKED ABOUT ANY COVERED PART NOT BEING COVERED IF IT HAS ANY CORROSION ON IT, I WAS TOLD IT DOES NOT COVER CORROSION. PLEASE SEE ODI#10278394. COMPLAINT CONTINUED. TRUCK TAKEN TO GARAGE TO BE FIXED IN JANUARY 09 BECAUSE OF VIBRATION IN STEERING FROM BRAKES. OCT, GUARANTEE RUN OUT, AND BRAKES STILL NOT FIXED. VIBRATION CONTINUED. ORDERED NEW PERFORMANCE ROTORS AND PADS. UPON INSTALLATION OF THESE ITEMS I INSPECTED CALIPERS AND FOUND CRACKS AND CHIPS IN CYLINDER PLUNGERS WHICH CONNECT TO PUSH THE PADS. I WOULD SAY THIS CAME FROM CONSTANT VIBRATION OF THE FRONT BRAKES WHICH FORD DID NOT FIX FOR EIGHT MONTHS. THE CENTER PLUNGER OF THESE CALIPER PISTONS ARE MADE OF A FIBER BOARD WHICH WILL NOT STAND UP TO VIBRATION, FIBER BOARD IS A VERY HARD AND BRITTLE MATERIAL WHICH IS GOOD FOR HEAT AND WEAR BUT NOT VIBRATION. CALIBERS HAVE TO BE REPLACED. OF COURSE AT MY EXPENSE. TRUCK IS UNDRIVEABLE AND THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND DEATH IF BREAKDOWN OF THIS FIBER BOARD TYPE MATERIAL SHOULD FAIL WITHOUT NOTICE. BRAKE DEFECT 2006 FORD 4X4 XLT PICKUP. VIBRATION IN VEHICLE WHEN STOPPING. *TR
BRAKES WORKED FINE UPON ARRIVING AT STORE. UPON LEAVING PARKING LOT AS I APPROACHED STREET, I APPLIED BRAKES TO LEARN THAT THE VEHICLE HAD NO BRAKES. I PRESSED THE BRAKES VERY HARD AND WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY STOP. I WAS PROBABLY TRAVELING AT LESS THAN 5-10 MPH LEAVING PARKING. I CHECKED BRAKE FLUID AND ANY ENGINE CODES, ALL WERE NORMAL. I PROCEEDED TO THE HOUSE CAREFULLY ALLOWING FOR MAXIMUM DISTANCE. BY PRESSING VERY HARD ON BRAKE PEDAL, I WAS ABLE GRADUALLY COME TO A STOP. ON MONDAY, 11/19/2007, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. THE VEHICLE THIS MORNING HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT VISIBLE. THE TROUBLE WAS QUICKLY DIAGNOSE BY SERVICE MECHANIC AS A BROKEN VACUUM LINE BEHIND THE ENGINE. THE SMALL COUNTRY DEALERSHIP RELATED THAT THEY REPLACED THE SAME LINE ON A SIMILAR VEHICLE THE WEEK BEFORE. THE DEALERSHIP WAS IN SOUTHEAST GEORGIA AND THE NEAREST PART WAS IN MEMPHIS, TN AND WOULD TAKE 2 DAYS TO ARRIVE. PLUS, THE MANIFOLD AND OTHER PARTS HAD TO BE REMOVED TO GET TO LINE. IT TOOK SOME 6 HOURS OF LABOR TO REPLACE. THE PARTS AND LABOR WAS $767.80 AND THE RENTAL CAR WAS $112.19. THE SERVICE ON THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETED IN THE AFTERNOON OF 11/21/2007. THE MILEAGE ON THE TRUCK WAS 43996 MILES WHEN TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE. *TR

BRAKE BOOSTER RECALL NOTICE ON 2006 F150 HARLEY. ON SEPTEMBER 13, 2008 I LEFT MY VEHICLE IN PARAMUS FORD N.J. FOR RECALL REPAIR AND OTHER ISSUES. WHEN I RETURNED THE MANAGER DIDN'T HAVE TIME FOR RECALL. ON SEPTEMBER 26, 08 I HIT ANOTHER CAR BECAUSE BRAKES DIDN'T STOP. I HOPE THAT SOMEONE LOOKS INTO THESE BRAKING SYSTEM BECAUSE THIS WAS A SCARY ACCIDENT WITH OUT BEING PREPARED. *TR
PULSATING BRAKES AT 12K MILES - DEALER CHOSE TO TURN THE ROTORS PER FORD. PULSATING BRAKES AGAIN AT 20K - IDENTIFIED BY DEALER TO TURN ROTORS AGAIN - "THEY ARE WITHIN FORD SPECS REQUIRING TURNING VS. REPLACING". CONTACTED FORD - (OF COURSE, THOSE THAT ANSWER THE PHONE ARE NOT TECHNICAL - SO THEY COULD NOT EXPLAIN THE SPECS OR PROVIDE THEM) EXPLAINED THAT THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM - SHOULD REPLACE. FORD HAD IDENTIFIED THAT THESE ROTORS ARE WITHIN SPEC - WILL NOT REPLACE WILL ONLY TURN. LIMITED WARRANTY PROVIDES FOR REPAIR IF AVAILABLE - NOT REPLACE. 2 TURNS IN 20K ON A VEHICLE THAT IS 3 YEARS OLD. NOT ACCEPTABLE. $38K VEHICLE AND $400 WARRANTY REPAIR FOR NEW ROTORS IS TOO MUCH FOR FORD TO SWALLOW. NICE WARRANTY - QUESTION IS, WILL THE ROTORS OUTLAST THE WARRANTY?? *TR

HE CONSULTED SEVERAL DEALERS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO HAVE THE REPAIR PERFORMED, AND ALL OF THEM STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT HE COULD BE SERIOUSLY INJURED IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 22,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 500.

THE VEHICLE FINALLY STARTED, AND WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO BACK UP THE VEHICLE, HE REALIZED THAT THE POWER BRAKES FAILED. HE STRUCK A VEHICLE PARKED BEHIND HIM.
