STEERING BECAME ERRATIC & UNCONTROLABLE WHILE DRIVING AT 55MPH. STEERING WHEEL SHOOK . IT WAS A DEATH WOBBLE AND ALMOST CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THIS HAS HAPPENED FOUR TIMES IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS. THIS IS A 2013 FORD F-350 WITH 102,000 MILES. EACH TIME TRUCK HAD IT HAPPEN, IT WAS AFTER A EXPANSION JOINT IN ROAD WAS GONE OVER. TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO FORD DEALER & WE ARE WAITING FOR THEIR ASSEMENT OF THE PROBLEM.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-350. The contact stated while driving 65-75 MPH over a bumpy road surface, the vehicle experienced a death wobble. The contact stated that the steering wheel and the front end of the vehicle were shuddering violently, nearly causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle. The contact stated that upon decelerating to 20 MPH, the vehicle failure ceased, and the contact pulled over to the side of the road temporarily. The contact resumed driving. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to Ford Campaign Number: 20N04. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.

When hitting a bump in the road at highway speed, the front end of the truck will began to wobble and oscillate uncontrollably. Had to stop by the side of the road to get it to stop. Took it to the local Ford dealership and they are replacing all the steering components in the front end at my expense…$2100. This is apparently a known issue with 2009 and later Ford Super Duty trucks. This is an extremely dangerous situation and should be rectified by Ford at no cost to owners.

I have had a few instances where the steering wheel gets a little shaky when hitting a bump but had a significant event that recently happened. I was traveling about 70 mph, with 3 other individuals in the truck with me. We were on a relatively smooth highway, one that is very well maintained. We went over a bridge and as we came off of the bridge and over the “joint” between the road and the bridge, the steering wheel began to violently shake, worse than anything I have ever experienced. I was white-knuckled trying to keep control of the vehicle, all the while slowing down on the highway. The truck was drifting left as it was shaking and I finally was able to come to almost a complete stop, which is when the shaking stopped. The shaking lasted maybe 20 -30 seconds. There was no warning, no lights or messages on the dash…and the “joint” between the road and the bridge was not very rough. I am thankful no one was hurt and there wasn’t much traffic around us when it happened. I am also thankful I wasn’t hauling my horse trailer and horses when it happened because it could have turned out much worse. I have scheduled an appointment with the dealership to take the vehicle in. I can’t possibly chance this happening again…especially with a horse trailer hooked up.

I was driving on the freeway when I hit a small bump and the steering wheel began to shake uncontrollably. Luckily, I was able to merge to the shoulder for safety. Only after I stopped completely did the shaking stop. Signs of the famous "death wobble" on these trucks. Ford needs to fix! Veer dangerous and scary.

My vehicle is currently at 79,200 miles and have recently experienced what is called the Death Wobble. Any bump in the road causes my steering to violently shake back and forth until I slow down and regain control. At this time it’s unknown what is causing the problem and an appointment with my dealer isn’t available until December 17, three months from now. We use this vehicle to tow a12,000 pound fifth wheel. At this point I’m afraid to tow with this vehicle. Currently the vehicle is covered under Ford’s extended warranty until Feb 28.

WHEN MY TRUCK HITS A BUMP AT 40-60MPH, MY TRUCK BEGINS TO GO INTO A DEATH WOBBLE WHERE THE STEERING WHEEL AND TIRED SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY UNTIL I STOP THE VEHICLE. I HAVE SPENT A TON OF MONEY TRYING TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD MY TRUCK IN AND OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP TRYING TO FIX IT WITH NO RESOLVE. I HAVE A VIDEO TO SEND YOU BUT THIS WEBSITE ONLY ACCEPTS PHOTOS AND DOCUMENTS.

SEVERAL DIFFERENT TIMES WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS RANGING FROM 55 TO 65 MPH I HAVE HIT A SMALL BUMP OR UNEVEN PAVEMENT WHICH HAS CAUSED MY TRUCK TO GO INTO AN UNCONTROLLABLE DEATH WOBBLE. IT SHAKES SO VIOLENTLY THAT I ALMOST LOSE CONTROL AND HAVE TO SLOW TO ALMOST A STOP BEFORE IT QUITS.

STEERING STARTS TO SHAKE ANYWHERE FROM 30 MPH TO 70MPH

2 WEEKS AGO I GOT THE TERRIBLE "DEATH WOBBLE" AND ALMOST WRECKED THE TRUCK AS WELL AS ME ALMOST HAVING A HEART ATTACK . I WAS GOING 60 MPH (SPEED LIMIT IS 65) ON A DUAL LANE HIGHWAY AND HIT A SMALL POTHOLE AND HIT THE BRAKES MAKING IT 10 TIMES WORSE. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CHECKED EVERYTHING OUT AND IT SEEMED TO BE OK. HAD IT CHECKED OUT BY A MECHANIC FRIEND AND WE REPLACED THE STEERING STABILIZER. DID GOOD FOR 2 WEEKS AND RAN UP ON STOPPED TRAFFIC AND THE WORST HAPPENED TWICE AS BAD AS THE FIRST TIME. TRUCK HAS 57,000 MILES AND I AM THE 2ND OWNER AND HAD NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS UNTIL NOW. I RESEARCHED THIS AND FOUND OUT ABOUT THE DEATH WOBBLE AND IT SEEMS LIKE THERE ARE MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND SEEMS TO BE NO REPAIR FOR IT. MAYBE THE BEST FIX IS TO BUY A NEW OTHER BRAND TYPE OF TRUCK. I HAVE BEEN A FAITHFUL FORD BUYER UNTIL THIS HAS COME UP UNLESS THERE IS A RECALL OR REPAIR TO BE MADE

WHILE TRAVELING ABOVE 50MPH OR SO, THE TRUCK HAS VIOLENTLY SHOOK AFTER HITTING A MINOR BUMP IN THE ROAD, CAUSING DIFFICULTY STEERING THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE PULLING TO ONE SIDE. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, WITH EACH TIME BEING EXACTLY THE SAME. THE VEHICLE WILL BE DRIVING SMOOTHLY, AND THEN EXPERIENCE A VIOLENT REPETITIVE SHAKING. EACH TIME, THE DRIVER HAS HAD TO BRAKE IMMEDIATELY IN ORDER TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE VEHICLE SLOWED TO APPROXIMATELY 20MPH OR LOWER, THE VEHICLE REGAINED CONTROL. VISUAL EXAMINATIONS OF THE VEHICLE RETURNED NO LOOSE OR BROKEN PARTS, AND THE VIOLENT VIBRATIONS WERE NOT EVIDENT BY ANY MARKINGS OR OTHER DISTURBANCES UNDER THE VEHICLE. AFTER DOING SOME INITIAL RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THAT OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED ALMOST IDENTICAL SITUATIONS, AND IS CHARACTERIZED AS "DEATH WOBBLE". THE VEHICLE DOES NOT SEEM SAFE TO DRIVE, AND THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE ANY RECALLS FROM FORD ON THIS KNOWN AND WIDESPREAD ISSUE.

WHEN RUNNING OVER ANY BUMP AT SPEEDS ABOVE 30 MPH, THE FRONT END SHAKES VIOLENTLY. I'VE RECENTLY HAD THE FRONT END ALIGNED BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUES.

THE TRUCK DEVELOPED A DEATH WOBBLE, WHICH IS COMMONLY EXPLAINED ON THE INTERNET AND HAS SEEMED TO PLAGUE FORD SUPERDUTYS WITH SOLID FRONT AXLES. MY DEATH WOBBLE DEVELOPED WHILE STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY, WHICH WAS EXPLAINED IN DETAIL WITH SYMPTOMS AND EXPERIENCE. DEALER CLAIMS THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A PROBLEM. IN THE END THEY REPLACED THE STEERING STABILIZER, WHICH ULTIMATELY DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE EXPERIENCED DEATH WOBBLE CAN ONLY BE DESCRIBED AS FRIGHTENING, IT BEARS NO WARNING AND HAPPENS IN A SPLIT SECOND. THE DEATH WOBBLE HAS ONLY OCCURED AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 50MPH. THE SIMPLIEST EXPLAINATION IS THAT ANY BUMP IN THE ROAD, LARGE OR SMALL, CAN UPSET THE VEHICLE AND SEND IT INTO A VIOLENT SHAKE, SHUTTER AND OCSILATION THAT IS UNCONTROLLABLE TO AVOID, STOP OR CONTROL THE OCCURANCE. THIS SCARIEST PART IS THIS HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY FREQUENTLY WITH SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 70MPH AND THE ONLY RECOURSE IS TO SLOW DOWN AND MANUEVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THE DEATH WOBBLE OFFERS NO CONTROL OR STEERING CAPABILITIES TO THE VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY MY SPOUSE OR KIDS WILL NEVER DRIVE THIS TRUCK FOR FEAR OF WHAT COULD HAPPEN.. UNFORTUNATELY MY FAMILY DOES HAVE TO TRAVEL IN THIS VEHICLE AS IT IS A DAILY DRIVER. THE FACT THAT THIS IS AN EXTREME FLAW, DEFECT AND DANGER IS ONLY COMPOUND WHEN YOUR ONLY RECOURSE TO STOP THE VIOLENT WOBBLE IS TO PULL OVER OR STOP IMMEDIATELY ONLY ADDS TO THE DANGERS OF THE UNCERTAINTY OF TRAFFIC AROUND YOU.
