The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost power to the radio, windows, and power steering. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who checked the wiring harness and was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
Vehicle is a Plug In Hybrid, it was left in the garage (first floor of the house) overnight charging the EV battery. Sometime in the night, plugged in, no key in the ignition, the engine started and ran until it ran out of gas (in the garage with the door closed and my son sleeping on the 2nd floor over the garage). We were lucky no one died of carbon monoxide poising. In the morning the 12v engine battery was dead, smelled like it may burned up, my guess is the battery dying confused the computer. The vehicle is out of warranty, taking it to the dealer will cost me $1,000. I'm guessing that replacing the 12V battery will fix it (which is a lot cheaper). I don't plan on ever putting it back in the garage but someone needs to warn everyone else that has one of these!

While researching the issue, the contact discovered a manufacturer’s recall for similar vehicles regarding the failure. The dealer was contacted about the failure and was informed that they were unable to assist him. The contact was referred to the manufacturer. Once the manufacturer was notified of the issue, the contact was informed that there would be no assistance because the Vin was not included in the recall. The contact was given a case number and was referred to the NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, the electrical system malfunctioned causing the instrument panel to become inoperable. There were several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed; however, the dealer was unable to diagnose the vehicle. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic who was unable to diagnose the vehicle as well. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 52,000.
RECENTLY, BOTH OF THE FRONT HEATED AND COOLED SEATS ON MY FORD FUSION STOPPED WORKING. I WENT TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER, WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR, TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT. THEY EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE BURNT CONNECTOR IS DUE TO A FAILURE OF THE SCME MODULE AND THAT BOTH THE CONNECTOR AND SCME WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $596.11. I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT I DON'T BELIEVE THE MODULE IS FAILED, AND THAT REGARDLESS, A MODULE FAILURE SHOULD NEVER RESULT IN A CONNECTOR BURNING AS ALL THIS CIRCUITRY SHOULD BE FUSE PROTECTED AGAINST OVERCURRENT WITHOUT BURNING. I TOLD THEM THAT I BELIEVED THE MODULE APPEARS TO BE FAILED ON THEIR DIAGNOSTICS SYSTEM BECAUSE THE GROUND TO THE MODULE HAS MELTED AND HAS THUS BECOME DISCONNECTED. I COMPLETED SOME INVESTIGATION AND THE FAILURE APPEARS TO BE RELATED TO INSUFFICIENT GROUNDING TO THE SCME MODULE (SEAT CLIMATE CONTROL MODULE) UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT THAT RESULTS IN OVERCURRENT TO A GROUND PIN TO THE SCME, WHICH RESULTS IN THE CONNECTOR MELTING AND BECOMING DISCONNECTED FROM THE SCME. I AM CONCERNED DUE TO FIRE RISK IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT AS WELL AS ANY IMPACT THIS FAILURE MAY HAVE ON THE SEAT AIRBAGS. I WAS ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM MYSELF BY REPLACING THE CONNECTOR AND ADDING A SECOND GROUND WIRE TO THE SCME TO PROVIDE PROPER GROUNDING. ATTACHED IS A PICTURE OF THE MELTED WIRE HARNESS CONNECTOR ON MY CAR.
WHILE DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEED (70 MPH) THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER AS I WAS GOING UP HILL AND IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. I HAD TO MERGE ALL THE WAY TO THE SHOULDER AND COAST DOWN THE HILL 2 MILES TO GET TO A SAFE LOCATION BEFORE PULLING OVER AND GETTING OUT OF THE CAR. THANKFULLY A POLICE OFFICE WAS ABLE TO ESCORT ME OTHERWISE I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE RADIO AND AIR CONDITIONING UNIT BECAME INOPERABLE. ADDITIONALLY, THE WINDOW SWITCH LOCKED INDEPENDENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT REMEDIED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS INDEPENDENTLY REMEDIED AFTER ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO REMAIN IDLING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ROBINSON BROTHERS FORD (11455 AIRLINE HWY, BATON ROUGE, LA 70816, (225) 293-8900) HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE OR PROVIDE A CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN MY CAR STARTING DRIVING STRANGE, VERY ROUGH. THEN THE CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM WAS COMPLETELY GRAYED OUT AND A MESSAGE POPPED UP ON MY DASH 'TEMPORARILY LOST COMMUNICATION WITH CLIMATE SYSTEM' WHILE THIS ERROR MESSAGE IS UP, THE WINDOWS WON'T GO DOWN OR UP, A/C OR HEAT WON'T TURN ON, DASH DOESN'T WORK AT ALL, DOORS WON'T LOCK OR UNLOCK. VERY UNSAFE!
VEHICLE APIM FAILED. THIS IS CONSIDERED TO BE THE HANDSFREE OPTION FOR CELL PHONE USE, STEERING WHELL CONTTOLS, AND CELL BLUE TOOTH OPTION.
DASH CODE APPEARED READING UNABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH CLIMATE CONTROL IN TURN RENDERING ALL TOUCH SCREEN APPLICATIONS AND THE ABILITY TO CONTROL ANY AND ALL OF THE VEHICLES RIGHT SIDE TO FUNCTION. ( WINDOWS, DOORS, LOCKS, ETC.) THIS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAY
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD FUSION ENERGI. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PULL THE ELECTRICAL CHARGER OUT OF THE VEHICLE, THE CHARGER WAS EXTREMELY HOT. THE CHARGER BURNED THE CONTACT'S HAND. THERE WERE NO INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT DROPPED THE CHARGER AND IT LANDED ON THE REAR DRIVER'S SEAT AND BURNED A HOLE IN THE SEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO KEN GARFF FORD (597 E 1000 SOUTH, AMERICAN FORK, UT 84003), BUT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE WHY THE CHARGER BECAME SO HOT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000.
WITHIN THE PAST 4 MONTHS, AS OF TODAY, APRIL 08,2019, I HAVE FOUND ALL MY WINDOWS DOWN ON MY VEHICLE WHEN PARKED. IT HAS HAPPENED TWICE AT WORK, ONCE AT HOME, AND ONCE AT SHOPPING MALL. ON TODAY, APRIL 08,2019 I ENTERED WORK AT 5:45AM(LIGHT RAIN). AT 9:30AM, I EXITED MY WORK AREA TO GO TO ANOTHER BUILDING, AND FOUND ALL FOUR(4)OF MY WINDOWS DOWN AND IT WAS POURING DOWN RAINING. MY VEHICLE WAS ALSO FULL OF HOUSEHOLD ITEMS PURCHASED. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED BY ANY OTHER OWNERS OF THIS CAR. THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WHICH HAS NOW HAPPENED 4 TIMES. THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM GOES DOWN. THE DASH GOES DARK, THE A/C DOES NOT WORK, THE TURN SIGNALS DON'T WORK, THE DOORS AND WINDOWS WILL NOT WORK AND I CANNOT EVEN GET OUT OF THE CAR. IT DOES NOT HELP TO TURN OFF AND RESTART THE CAR, EVERYTHING WILL START WORKING EVENTUALLY ON ITS OWN. I CAN STEER AND BRAKE, BUT THAT IS ALL. THIS LAST TIME I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE AND WAS FRIGHTENED THAT I WOULD BE HIT BEFORE I COULD GET ON THE SHOULDER. WHEN I TOOK IT IN, AS USUAL, THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT I CONTACT FORD FOR A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE. THEY DENIED MY REQUEST, SAYING I WAS OUTSIDE THE TIME PERIOD FOR FILING. THE CASE NUMBER IS FMA CAS-22012807. I BOUGHT THE CAR AT RACEWAY FORD IN HARTSVILLE, SC, WHERE I RESIDED, IN MARCH OF 2016. I FIRST HAD TROUBLE WITH IT IN JUNE, 2016 AND TOOK IT IN. THE AGAIN IN DECEMBER, 2016 AND JANUARY, 2018. I HAVE SINCE MOVED TO DES MOINES, IA AND HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN IN JULY, 2019. THE CAR HAS LESS THEN 19,000 MILES AND I FEEL VERY DANGEROUS. IN JANUARY, 2018 THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE COMPUTER SYSTEM BUT THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. I HOPE THERE IS SOMETHING THAT THE NHTSA CAN HELP WITH.
RECEIVE ERROR "TEMPORARILY LOST COMMUNICATION WITH THE CLIMATE SYSTEM". UNABLE TO OPERATE THE CLIMATE SYSTEM, WINDOWS, DOOR LOCKS AND RADIO VOLUME. THIS OCCURS FREQUENTLY AND IS A SAFETY CONCERN, ESPECIALLY IN HOT WEATHER UNABLE TO OPERATE WINDOWS OR AC.
ATTEMPTED TO START VEHICLE, WOULD NOT START. REMOVED TRIM AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A WIRING ISSUE FROM THE BATTERY JUNCTION BOX (BJB) TO THE STARTER. FOUND WIRING AND CONNECTOR CORRODED. TECHNICIAN HAD TO CLEAN CONNECTOR, REPAIR/REPLACE WIRE, APPLY DI-ELECTRIC GREASE. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AT TIME ISSUE WAS DISCOVERED.
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR ON A CITY STREET MY HUSBAND WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, AND MY SON WAS SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT. MY HUSBAND GOT WARM, AND PUSHED THE AUTOMATIC BUTTON TO ROLL DOWN HIS WINDOW. I INSTANTLY THOUGHT THIS WAS ODD SINCE I ALWAYS KEEP THE WINDOW'S LOCKED SO THAT MY SON CAN NOT PLAY WITH THE WINDOWS. I CHECKED, AND FOUND THAT THE LIGHT WAS ON INDICATING THAT THE LOCK WAS ACTIVE. I THEN PULLED OVER, AND ROLLED UP HIS WINDOW, UNLOCKED THE WINDOW, RE-LOCKED IT, AND HAD HIM DO IT AGAIN. WHILE THE CAR WAS RUNNING I HAD THE THOUGHT TO CHECK THE DOOR LOCKS AS WELL. HE WAS ALSO ABLE TO OPEN HIS DOOR AFTER PRESSING THE LOCK BUTTON!
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A BUSY CITY ROAD WITH MY 4 YEAR OLD IN THE BACKSEAT. THEY THEN OPENED THE DOOR WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THIS SCARED ME AS MY CAR IS SET TO LOCK AUTOMATICALLY WHILE DRIVING. I QUICKLY PULLED OVER, SHUT THE DOOR, GOT IN, AND RE-LOCKED THE DOOR. ONCE THE DOOR WAS RE-LOCKED I CLIMBED INTO THE BACKSEAT WITH THE CAR STILL RUNNING AND WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR AGAIN. I THEN EXITED THE OPEN DOOR, AND WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE "LOCKED" DRIVERS DOOR, AND GET BACK IN. I THEN LOCKED THE DOORS AGAIN, AND TRIED OPENING THE DRIVERS DOOR, AND IT OPENED. I SHUT MY CAR OFF, TURNED IT BACK ON, LOCKED MY DOORS, TRIED OPENING THE DOOR, AND IT WAS LOCKED. THIS IS NOT SAFE FOR MY CHILD! I HAVE READ OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM OTHERS WITH THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL, AND THOUGHT THAT THIS SHOULD BE DOCUMENTED WITH NHTSA.
THE 12-VOLT BATTERY ON THE ENERGI MODEL WILL NOT HOLD A CHARGE. REPEATED JUMP STARTS ARE REQUIRED. DESPITE BEING UNDER WARRANTY, 2 FORD DEALERS CLAIMED THEY DON'T KNOW THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM AND REFUSED TO REPLACE THE BATTERY. NO WONDER FORD DROPPED THIS MODEL. IT IS A DISASTER THAT FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE.
THE HEATING WILL ONLY WORK FOR THE FIRST 10 MINUTES OF THE DRIVE. THEN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM FREEZES AND THE HEAT SHUTS OFF. THE RADIO WILL TURN ON TO FULL VOLUME AND YOU CAN'T TURN OFF THE RADIO, OR TURN DOWN THE VOLUME. THE HEAT WILL NOT TURN BACK ON AND ALL THE COMPUTER FUNCTIONS STOP WORKING. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG AND THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME $5000 TO START TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
WHILE I WAS DRIVING 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE MY 2016 FUSION WITH ON 8000 MILES ON SHUT DOWN LIKE I WAS OUT OF GAS. ALL MY DASH LIGHTS CAME ON TELLING ME TO CHECK MANUAL AND MY CHECK ENGINE. WAS ABLE TO GET OVER SOME ONE TO PUT MY CAR ON A MACHINE TO TELL ME WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT. AN ERROR CODE OF P2111 CAME UP SAYING MY THROTTLE WAS OPEN. NEW CAR I'M THE ONLY OWNER I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS IS. AS I'M LOOKING UP INFORMATION ABOUT THE THROTTLE I CAN SEE THEY'VE HAD RECALLS ON THIS PART BEFORE. MY AIR BAG LIGHT IN EVERYTHING CAME ON SEAT BELT UNLOCKED. *TR
FORD SYNC SYSTEM. SINCE THE DATE OF PURCHASE THE SYNC SYSTEM WILL NOT WORK. IT IS CONSTANTLY LOOSING HANDS FREE DEVICES AND NOT RECOGNIZING ANY VOICE COMMANDS. I HAVE CALLED FORD CUSTOMER CARE, HAD THE DEALERSHIP TRY AND FIX THE PROBLEM NUMEROUS TIMES, CALLED SYNC AND HAVE BEEN HOLD TO DO A MASTER REST AND TO TAKE THE BATTERY CABLES OFF. I'M HAVING TO DO THIS EVERY DAY. I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY HOWEVER IT'S COSTING ME $50.00 TO HAVE IT REPROGRAMMED PLEASE HELP WITH THIS SO OTHER FORD CUSTOMERS DON'T EXPERIENCE THE SAME ISSUE

THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO RETRIEVE A FAULT CODE. THE BATTERY WAS RECHARGED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER TWO TO THREE DAYS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHILE ENTERING THE FREEWAY MY CAR LOSS POWER AND BEGAN TO QUICKLY DECELERATE. THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO MOVE TO THE SHOULDER BEFORE THE CAR THAT I WAS PULLING IN FRONT OF HAD TO TAKE ACTION TO KEEP FROM HITTING ME. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND WRENCH ICON APPEARED AFTER THE INCIDENT HAPPENED. THE FORD DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
