TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD MUSTANG. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO DECREASE IN SPEED WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS DEACTIVATED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE CONTACT SHUT THE ENGINE OFF WHILE DRIVING IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 99V062001 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 165,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD MUSTANG. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER MAKING A LEFT TURN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO HIGHER SPEEDS. WHEN HE TRIED TO APPLY THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND HE CRASHED INTO AN EMBANKMENT. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED DUE TO HIM IMMEDIATELY EJECTING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PENDING AN INVESTIGATION. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILES WERE APPROXIMATELY 134,000.
HIGH IDLE SPEED AFTER USING THE CRUISE CONTROL ON 5.11.2008. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN ON-GOING WITHOUT THE USE OF THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WAS SOON DETACHED AND THE CONDITION DISAPPEARED. THE IDLE IS NOW FINE,BUT CANNOT USE THE CRUISE CONTROL BECAUSE THE CONDITION WILL RETURN. THE PROBLEM IS QUITE SIMILAR TO THE FORD RECALL NUMBER 99V-062.001, BUT AFTER CONTACTING FORD SERVICE LINE ON 5.25.2008, I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE (1999 FORD MUSTANG COBRA 4.6 4VDOHC) WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *TR
ACCELERATOR STICKING WOT ON CARPET ON 1999 MUSTANG COBRA COUPE. DON'T HAVE A SPECIFIC DATE. CAR WAS TRADED. I THOUGHT IT WAS SPECIFIC TO MY CAR. I BROKE 3 ACCELERATOR PEDALS DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD. I THOUGHT THE PEDAL WAS JUST CHEAP. NOW REALIZE THE CARPET BEING TORN WAS DUE TO PEDAL AND NOT ME BASED ON SOME OF THE INFORMATION I HAVE SEEN ON THE NET.
DRIVING AT 75 MPH ON CRUISE CONTROL. NEEDED TO SLOW DOWN SO TAPPED BRAKE PEDAL. CRUISE WOULD NOT RELEASE. HIT BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN. NO RESPONSE. POUNDED BRAKE PEDAL AND FINALLY CRUISE CANCELLED. DEALERSHIP FOUND CAUSE TO BE A BROKEN WIRE ON THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH. LUCKILY HAD ROOM IN TRAFFIC TO HANDLE THE PROBLEM. NEXT STEP WAS TO HIT CRUISE OFF BUTTON.
UNPREDICTABLE PROBLEM. OCCASIONALLY, 5 TO 15 SECONDS AFTER I FIRST START MY 1999 MUSTANG GT, THE ENGINE WILL RAPIDLY INCREASE IN RPM AND THEN RETURN TO NORMAL. IF THE CAR IS IN DRIVE OR REVERSE AND I DO NOT HAVE MY FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR WILL JUMP FORWARD OR BACKWARD. I NOTICE THE PROBLEM MOSTLY WHEN I FIRST PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE. IT MAY HAPPEN 3 OR 4 TIMES IN ONE MONTH AND MAY NOT HAPPEN AGAIN FOR 2 OR 3 MONTHS. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE BRAKE APPLIED FIRMLY, I THINK THE CAR COULD EASILY JUMP 5 FEET BEFORE GETTING A FOOT ON THE BRAKE. I CURRENTLY HAVE 29,000 MILES ON MY CAR. I PURCHASED IT NEW IN THE MIDDLE OF 1999. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW. DURING A PREVIOUS IN WARRANTY REPAIR, I TOLD THE DEALER ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THAT SOMETIMES IT ALSO HAD A ROUGH IDLE. THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE EITHER OF THE PROBLEMS DURING TESTING. NOW THE CAR HAS A SPORADIC COLD IDLE PROBLEM WHICH HAS GOTTEN WORSE. I DO NOT KNOW IF IT IS RELATED. I WOULD GUESS THE "RAPID RPM INCREASE AT IDLE PROBLEM" HAS OCCURED BETWEEN 25 AND 50 TIMES WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR. AT FIRST, I THOUGHT MAYBE I WAS BUMPING THE GAS PEDAL. AFTER REPEAT OCCURENCES I STARTED PAYING CLOSE ATTENTION. MY FOOT NEVER TOUCHED THE GAS PEDAL WHEN THE CAR JUMPED UNPREDICTABLY. I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THIS CAR. FOR THE MOST PART, I AM A VERY HAPPY CUSTOMER OF FORD MOTOR CO. HOWEVER, THIS PROBLEM CONCERNS ME GREATLY FROM A POINT OF SAFETY BECUASE PEDESTRIANS COULD BE WALKING IN FRONT OF OR BEHIND THE CAR WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS.
WHEN SLOWING DOWN VEHICLE IDLE SPEED DROPS,AND SUDDENLY PICKS UP, CAUSING CAR TO LURCH FORWARD. *AK
THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN JULY 1999. THE VEHICLE WILL SUDDENLY ACCELERATE TO 40 MPH WITHOUT GIVING ANY GAS. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER PAUL CORNIES FORD RICHMOND ST. CHATHAM ONT. ON 6 OCCASIONS, EVERY 6 MONTHS FOR THIS PROBLEM. I FEEL COMPELLED TO MAKE YOUR AGENCY AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AS THIS SITUATION IS VERY UNSAFE . COMPUTER CONTROLLED IDLE DEFECTIVE, IDLE SURGES UNPREDICTABLY. OCCURS MOSTLY WHEN STOPPED. IDLE FLUCTUATES BETWEEN 500 AND 1000. SOMETIMES WILL STALL AND OTHER TIMES WILL LURCH FORWARD AGAINST THE BRAKES. IF A/C IS TURNED ON, THE CONDITION IS WORSE. CAR HAS BEEN RETURNED TO DEALER AND THEY "CAN'T" FIX IT BECAUSE IT IS A COMPUTER CONTROLLED PROBLEM.*JB
CONSUMER HAD AN ACCIDENT DUE TO A DEFECT WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SPEED CABLE AS MENTIONED IN RECALL 99 V 062 001. THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF RECALL DUE TO VIN. *AK. CONSUMER STATES THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS SET AT 53 MPH, CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO HIT THE BRAKES AFTER SEEING A VEHICLE STOPPED, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN, AND CONSUMER HIT THE OTHER VEHICLE, CONSUMER SUFFERED NECK INJURIES.*JB
CAR IDLES TOO HIGH, WILL MAINTIAN SPEED WITH NO PEDAL PRESSURE. IN TRAFFIC MUST BRAKE CONTINUALLY TO SLOW CAR DOWN. CAR INITIALLY WOULD NOT IDLE AT ALL, IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE WAS REPLACED. NOW CAR HAS VARYING HIGH IDLE. AFTER FOUR REPAIR ATTEMPTS PROBLEM STILL EXISTS.*AK
THE CAR LURCHES FORWARD OR BACKWARD WITHOUT WARNING AFTER PLACING IN GEAR. RPMS GO DOWN, THEN SURGE CAUSING VEHICLE TO "LAUNCH" WHATEVER DIRECTION YOU'RE AIMED AT. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON OR 1 1/2 YEARS. 25 DAYS IN SHOP TO NO AVAIL. BLAINE @ FORD CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE, IS WELL AWARE OF IT (FILE # 203312)YET NOTHING IS BEING DONE. WHILE MAKING A STOP THE VEHICLE VEHICLE WOULD ACCLERATE, CAUSING VEHICLE TO LOSE CONTROL. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL LETTER (99V062) REGARDING A POSSIBLE DEFECTIVE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE. CONSUMER BROUGHT IN THE VEHICLE AT 7:30 A.M. FOR REPAIRS AND WAS TOLD TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE AT 4:30. CONSUMER ARRIVED AT 4:37 AND THE REPAIRS WERE NOT DONE, BUT VEHICLE HAD AN EXTRA 32 MILES ON IT AS IF IT HAD BEEN DRIVEN AFTER DELIVERY. REPAIRS STILL HAVE NOT BEEN DONE DUE TO LACK OF PARTS AND POOR. *YC

WHILE WAITING TO GO INTO TRAFFIC VEHICLE LEAPED AHEAD, CAUSING CONSUMER TO HIT A PICKUP TRUCK. ONE INJURY WAS SUSTAINED. *AK
I WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON I-85 WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 65 ON A CLEAR DAY. THE VEHICLE WENT INTO A SKID, AND BEFORE I COULD STOP THE SKID I HIT THE GUARDRAIL. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON THE CRUISE CONTROL FOR MY VEHICLE (RECALL 99S09) WHICH I BELIEVE CONTRIBUTED TO THIS ACCIDENT.
