2015 GMC Sierra 1500 Brakes

The Truck has something wrong with the Trailer braking system. with no notice it display "Service Trailer Braking system" in the DIC. This will cause loss of brakes to the trailer and make it very difficult to stop with the trailer. Everything functions properly and at a random moment they will just stop working.

Purchased GMC Sierra C1500 new in 2015 from a dealership in Orange County, CA. Experienced multiple issues over the past 4 years with the "Trailer Brake System" Service light and loud beeping which has created multiple safety issues making the vehicle undrivable at times. The last incident was while on a cross country road trip through extreme heat in the Southwest from Texas to California in June and most recently while visiting Orange County. The beeping noise almost caused a couple of accidents as the hands free phone system was inoperable due to the loud warning beeping noise as it went on and off about 50 times. We were required to take several risky maneuvers to pull the vehicle off heavy highway traffic at high speeds to stop the engine and restart in an attempt to reset the warning beeping system without success. The truck was checked in for service on 07.20.2022 at Tustin Buick GMC. Mr. John Boozer, Service Advisor. 714.669.3699. The total cost of repairs is $465 plus car rental of $80. Additional costs in April of 2019 for the repairs included fuse replacement, check of wiring harness and attempt to stop the beeping noise was $150. The defective wiring harness originally installed by GMC when the truck was built will be preserved and is available should your agency request it. Total costs out of pocket to replace or fix this factory defective part is $695. GMC has made no effort to address this issue or offer any recall notices related the failure of the "Trailer Brake Warning System". Thank you for your attention to this matter.

On July 18, 2022 my trailer brakes suddenly stopped functioning ( a few hours from home) Not only did did the trailer brakes stop functioning, but this warning message didn't popped up just one time, it kept coming again and again and again and again, relentlessy chiming and distracting me from driving. it covered my speedometer readout. it prevented me from receiving or making voice commands. the service warning chime also prevented the turn signal from functioning. So for a full 4 hours I was constantly reminded and was unable to receive calls or make voice commands. i absolutely wont hesitate to say the vehicle was not safe to drive in that condition. your vehicle's defect endangered my life. I will not hesitate to say your vehicle was not safe to drive in that condition. Your vehicles defect endangered my life! Lastly, my vehicle did not want to start the next morning!!

I keep getting a dashboard warning saying "service trailer brake system". from what i have found, this is due to an inexpensive wiring harness being used. It's very distracting and even if i dismiss the error, it keeps coming back up.

Trailer Brake System Service.

Was driving in a parking lot. When driving slow My brakes got stiff and I couldn’t stop it was so stiff it didn’t want to stop I had my kids and wife. Scary and unsafe. Told GMC there was a recall they said it was already fixed with my situation. But just cuz you see on the computer it doesn’t mean it’s fixed. So they said I got to pay but it’s in a recall already but properly not reboot right.

The brake pedal gets hard to push down when slowing down and especially when backing up slowly. After looking into some things I'm pretty sure the problem is with the vacuum pump.

Service Trailer Brake Brake System error keeps flashing.

The component that malfunctioned is the vehicle braking system at slow speeds. I first experienced the problem at a restaurant drive thru line. After several stops as the line advanced, the braking system failed (extremely hard pedal) and car kept advancing and if someone would have been directly in front of me ( at a normal distance for a drive thru ) I would have made contact with them at a slow speed. I checked with my dealer the next day and they said that there were no reported problems for this issue on my vehicle. No warning lamps or messages present but it seems to me to be similar to the recall ( N192268490 ) as it only happens at slow speed with repeated application of the brake. There were no symptoms of the problem prior to this incident and it took me completely by surprise. I took the vehicle in to a service facility and they test drove it and said that they did not recreate the failure but I believe that they didn't try repeated braking at slow speed as I requested. I feel that there is a problem and that it only shows up during the aforementioned driving conditions. I have checked your website and the manufacturers and my truck VIN doesn't show up for their computer reprogramming recall but think that maybe it should.

WHILE GOING SLOWLY AND TURNING, MY BRAKES FAILED TO STOP ME. THERE WAS NO PRESSURE FOR THE BRAKES. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. I ALMOST RAN INTO THE BACK OF A CAR.

Brakes do not work under slow speeds. Pumping breaks at slow speeds (parking lot speeds) causes break pedal to stiffen and the vehicle's breaks are not responsive. When this happens, I feel what seems to be ABS engaging (break pedal pulsates). The pulsating is only noticable in the break pedal. This behavior seems more prevalent in inclement weather.

BRAKES BECOMES HARD WHEN BACKING UP AT VERY LOW SPEED AND SOMETIMES IT FEEL LIKE THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE IS ACTIVATED. USUALLY HAPPEN WHEN BACKING UP

Whenever I connect a trailer to my vehicle I will lose all brake pressure when in reverse. It only happens when in reverse and connected to a trailer. I will have to pump my brakes to the floor and there's no braking power. This does not happen when I do not have a trailer connected.

MY BRAKE ASSIST SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON IN MY TRUCK AND THE BRAKES ARE ACTING WEIRD AT LOW SPEEDS. I KNOW THERE IS ALREADY A RECALL FOR THIS IN 2015 GMC SIERRA'S BUT APPARENTLY MINE ISN'T INCLUDED. THIS IS APPARENTLY A PROBLEM FOR ALL 2015 GMC'S SO HOW DO I GET MINE INCLUDED. I ALREADY CONTACTED MY LOCAL GM DEALER AND THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT UNLESS I PAY FOR IT. IT'S OBVIOUSLY A KNOWN PROBLEM AND A BIGGER PROBLEM THAN THEY ARE ADMITTING. HELP ME GET ALL 2015 GMC ON THE RECALL LIST BEFORE SOMEONE ELSE GETS HURT OR KILLED

VACUUM ISSUE WITH BRAKES. BACKING UP VEHICLE WITH UTILITY TRAILER WHEN BRAKE PEDAL IS PRESSED THEIR IS HESITATION AND LACK OF EASE WHEN PRESSING PEDAL. THEN IF PRESS PEDAL AFTER THAT THERE IS NO MOVEMENT AND PEDAL IS LIKE PUSHING ROCK WITH FOOT, NO SOFTNESS, NO MOVEMENT ALL. HAVE NOTICED THIS OCCASIONALLY FOR THE PAST 8 OR 10 MONTHS BEFORE FINDING THIS PLACE HERE TO NOTE MY ISSUE

AT LOW SPEEDS THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NON-RESPONSIVE AND PULSES WHILE MAKING A NOISE. IT HAS HAPPEN TWICE, ONCE IN A DRIVE THRU AND ANOTHER TIME BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. APPEARS TO BE A VACUUM ASSIST ISSUE. ONCE THE TRUCK WAS PLACE IN NEUTRAL AND THE RPM'S WERE INCREASED THE ISSUE WENT AWAY

WAITING IN LINE A COSTCO GAS STATION HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL OF A SUDDEN THE BRAKE PEDAL GOT HARD AND THE TRUCK WILL NOT STOP ALMOST HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME

AT LOW SPEEDS AFTER PUMPING BRAKES I HAVE NO BRAKE PRESSURE AND CANNOT STOP. PEDAL BOTTOMS OUT. ONCE I START MOVING AGAIN BRAKES COME BACK AGAIN.

4 MONTHS AGO THE DISPLAY PORTRAYED A MESSAGE STATING, TRAILER BRAKE WARNING, HAVE SYSTEM CHECKED. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE ATTEMPTED ON NUMEROUS TO HAVE MY VEHICLE CHECKED. BUT AS OF THIS DATE I HAVE NOT BEEN TO HAVE ANY DEALERSHIP LOOK AT MY VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY DEALERSHIP THAT THE VEHICLE COMPUTER SHOWS A HISTORY BUT NO CURRENT ERROR CODES, AND THEY CAN NOT WORK ON VEHICLE UNTIL IT HAS CURRENT CODES. SO I HAVE A TRUCK THAT IS DESIGNED TO TOW CARGO/VEHICLE BUT I AM NOT ABLE TO USE MY TRUCK FOR THAT PURPOSE BECAUSE OF THIS WARNING MESSAGE. I HAVE CONTACTED DEALERSHIPS, CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH GMC AND EVEN FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TENNESSEE DEPT OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS, BUT NO ONE WANTS TO HELP WITH MY PROBLEM. I HAVE NOTICED ON THE INTERNET THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS ISSUE. DANGEROUS SITUATION SHOULD SOMEONE USE VEHICLE TOWING. BIGGEST PROBLEM GM DOES NOT WANT TO EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THEY HAVE A PROBLEM.

DURING PARKING (LOW SPEEDS) MY BRAKE PEDAL BEGAN MAKING NOISE. WHEN STOPPING IN THE PARKING SPOT, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS VERY STIFF AND COULD ONLY PRESS IT DOWN 1/2"-1", BARELY ABLE TO STOP.

BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY IN REVERSE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND BRAKE WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE LIKE IT SHOULD. THIS VEHICLE HAD A RECALL ALREADY ON IT FOR THE VACUUM PUMP FAILING CAUSING A LOSS OF BRAKING POWER. I GOT THE RECALL REMEDIED ( SUPPOSEDLY BY INCREASING THE VACUUM PRESSURE BUT NOW 6 TO 7 MONTHS LATER THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DRIVING IN LOW SPEEDS DOWN RESIDENTIAL AREAS WITH KIDS PLAYING ETC AND YOUR BRAKES FAIL YOU THIS ULTIMATELY CAN CAUSE VERY SERIOUS INJURY IF NOT DEATH. AND TO KNOW THEY PUT A RECALL OUT THAT SUPPOSEDLY FIXES THE ISSUE AND IT DOSENT FIX ANYTHING MAKES IT WORSE BECAUSE YOUR CHEAP AND DONT WANT TO REPLACE A VACUUM PUMP IS UTTERLY DISTURBING AND DISGUSTING

MY TRUCK STILL HAS THE HARD BRAKING ISSUE EVEN THOUGH THE RECALL HAS BEEN PERFORMED. I RECEIVED A SECOND LETTER AND TOOK IT BACK INTO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE REPROGRAM HAD ALREADY BEEN PERFORMED AND THAT WAS ALL THEY COULD DO. I HAD IT AT THE MECHANIC FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD I WAS GOING TO NEED A NEW BRAKE VACUUM. HE EXPERIENCED THE SAME HARD BREAKING ISSUE WHEN HE WAS TEST DRIVING IT. I TRAVEL AND DRIVE MY TRUCK A LOT AND MAKES ME VERY NERVOUS THIS IS GOING TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.

THE BRAKES FAILED AS MY SON APPROACHED AN INTERSECTION. SUBSEQUENTLY, HE STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE BROADSIDE. EXTENSIVE DAMAGE WAS SUSTAINED TO BOTH VEHICLES. THE DRIVER REPORTED THAT HE PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP. AFTER I INVESTIGATED FURTHER FOR AN EXPLANANTION,I DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON HIS BRAKE SYSTEM THAT MIGHT EXPLAIN BRAKE FAILURE. THE CRASH OCCURRED ON A CITY STREET.

DURING REAL SLOW SPEED MY BRAKES WILL GET EXTREMELY HARD TO PRESS. DURING THIS TIME THE TRUCK WILL BECOME HARD TO STOP. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN PARKING OR IN A DRIVE- THRU.

IN SLOW TRAFFIC TODAY I ALMOST SLAMMED INTO THE BACK OF A CAR! THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR,AND HAD A SHUTTER FEELIN TERRIBLE!! THIS IS SCARY AND NEEDS RECALLED NOW!! I HEARD IT WAS BUT CAME UP NO WITH MY VIN#?? BUT MY YEAR IS SUPPOSED TO BE RECALLED...THIS NEEDS FIXED IM NOT HAPPY AFTER TODAY..
