Subframe on passenger side is rusted through creating a safety hazard. I was unaware of this issue on 1999-2002 Honda Accords but when researching for the cause of a noise coming from the front end found plenty of articles but no corrective action from Honda.
I WAS DRIVING ON CITY WHEN I HEARD METAL NOISE FROM RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SIDE I HAD IT CHECK ED AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE K FRAME-SUBFRAME HAD RUSTED AND CRACKED ONLY ON PASSENGER SIDE RIGHT I CHECKED ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAD THIS PROBLEM DUE THAT THE AC WAS DRIPPING WATER ON TOP OF IT IT WAS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT
SUBFRAME RUST-OUT OF FRONT ENGINE CRADLE BACK BEAM ON RIGHT (PASSENGER) SIDE, BOTH BEHIND AND IN FRONT OF THE LOWER CONTROL ARM. LARGE HOLE IN FRAME WAS NOTED DURING OTHER REPAIR WORK AND MATCHES NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND PICTURES OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS THAT CAN BE FOUND ONLINE. DEALER SAYS THERE IS NO RECALL OR OTHER CORRECTIVE ACTION FROM HONDA.
PAINT LOOKS LIKE A BRILLO PAD WAS TAKEN TO IT
PASSENGER SIDE ENGINE CRADLE RUSTED OUT. SWAY BAR BUSHING BROKE OFF WHILE DRIVING HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED HOME VEHICLE MILEAGE IS 260514
THE SUB-FRAME ON PASSENGER'S SIDE OF CAR HAS SIGNIFICANT RUST THROUGH, PRESUMABLY DUE TO A POORLY PLACED AIR CONDITIONER CONDENSATE DRAIN, WHICH DRIPS WATER ON THE AFFECTED COMPONENT. THIS IS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW. THE TOP PART OF THE COMPONENTS IS MOSTLY EATEN AWAY BY RUST. THE PART HAS NOT BROKEN, YET, BUT IT EVENTUALLY WILL. THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE SAME COMPONENT IS UNAFFECTED. THE REMAINDER OF THE CAR IS IN GOOD SHAPE FOR ITS AGE.
PAINT BUBBLES ON THE FRONT ROOF NEAR THE WINDSHIELD HAS RESULTED IN WINDSHIELD SEAL TO DISINTEGRATE AND LEAK WATER WHEN IT RAINS. CAN'T RUN THE CAR THROUGH CARWASH! EXPECT THE WATER LEAK TO DAMAGE INTERNAL ELECTRONICS IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
AFTER A LONG TRIP OUT WEST WE NOTICED A NOISE IN THE FRONT END, WE HAD THE CAR LOOKED AT AND THEY SAID THE SUB FRAME ON RIGHT SIDE WAS RUSTED OUT. WE CONSIDER OURSELVES LUCKY NOTHING HAPPENED ON THE TRIP. FROM OHIO TO SOUTH DAKOTA.
STRUCTURAL DESIGN FLAW RAPIDLY CORRODES FRONT SUBFRAME. VEHICLE FAILED STATE INSPECTION AFTER SIGNIFICANT CORROSION OF PASSENGER-SIDE FRONT SUBFRAME COMPROMISED STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY. LOCALIZED CORROSION OCCURRING SUDDENLY DURING HOT SUMMER MONTHS ALMOST CERTAINLY RELATED TO FAULTY PLACEMENT OF AIR CONDITIONING DRAIN HOSE. MECHANIC RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT OF ENTIRE SUBFRAME, REPAIR COST QUOTED AT $1,700. VEHICLE DEEMED UNSAFE TO DRIVE PENDING THIS NECESSARY STRUCTURAL REPAIR. CURRENT VEHICLE MILEAGE IS 123,000.
FRONT SUB-FRAME OR ENGINE CRADLE IS RUSTED AND BROKEN. ITS VERY UNUSUAL IN HONDA. MY WHOLE CAR WAS RUST FREE EXCEPT THAT PART. THERE ARE LOT OF CUSTOMERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS ISSUE.

WHILE DRIVING MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD IT MADE LOUD BANGING NOISE. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE MECHANIC TO DISCOVER THAT THE SUB-FRAME WAS RUSTED. AFTER INVESTIGATING, I COME TO FIND OUT THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO ALOT OF HONDA ACCORDS MADE IN (1999-2002). NHTSA NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS BEFORE SOME IS KILLED BECAUSE OF HONDA FAILED ENGINEERING. THE COST TO REPLACE THE SUB-FRAME IS ABOUT $1300.00 + INCIDENTALS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE SUBFRAME WAS CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 185,000.

AS A RESULT, THE SUBFRAME FRACTURED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS RUSTED AND FRACTURED. THE FRONT SUBFRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 220,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
THE CAR MADE A KNOCKING SOUND AND PULLS TO THE RIGHT AT 55 MILES PER HOUR. MECHANIC NOTICED THE SUB FRAME ON THE RIGHT FRONT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS RUSTED OUT AND STATED IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. ENTIRE FRONT SUB FRAME TO BE REPLACED. NO EVIDENCE OF RUST ON THE REST OF THE SUB FRAME OR UNDERCARRIAGE.
A MONTH AND A HALF AGO I TOOK MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD FOR EXHAUST REPAIR, THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE SUBFRAME THAT HOLD THE CAR ENGINE MOTOR HAS COMPLETELY RUSTED, I WENT AHEAD AND TO THE CAR TO HONDA MOTORCAR DEALER BECAUSE OF DEFECTIVE HOOD LATCH SWITCH THAT MADE THE FACTORY CAR ALARM SYSTEM TO GO OFF NON-STOP, I LIVING A NIGHTMARE. NWAY THE DEALER WANTED AND STILL WANT 400 TO REPLACE THE HOOD LATCH SWITCH, THE DEALER ALSO SAID THE SAME THING THE MECHANIC HAD SAID EARLIER THAT THE VEHICLE SUBFRAME IS RUSTED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED, THEY NEED ALMOST 1200 DOLLARS TO DO SO. THIS A MAJOR STRUCTURAL COMPONENT OF THE VEHICLE THAT CAN ACCIDENT AND DEATH. I NEED TO DRIVE MY CAR EVERY DAY FOR WORK PURPOSES. HOW COMES THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THIS MAJOR STRUCTURAL COMPONENT THAT HOLDS THE VEHICLE TOGETHER. *TR
THE AC RUBBER HOSE LEAKS WATER AND DRIPS ON THE SUB FRAME CAUSING THE SUB FRAME TO RUST OUT. THE RUST TOTALLY CRACKED THE SUB FRAME, WHICH IN TURN, CAUSED THE SUSPENSION TO THE BE LOOSE. FROM WHAT I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE, THIS HAS HAPPENED TO HUNDRED OF CONSUMERS. MY HUSBAND HAS MADE A VIDEO AND HAS TAKEN THE STEPS TO WARN THE CONSUMERS OF A CARS WHICH WERE ENGINEERED SO POORLY, AND COULD RISK THE LIVES OF ANY ONE DRIVING THIS MODEL. I WONDER WHO IS IN CHARGE OF SAFETY FOR VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BY HONDA--THE COMPLAINTS FROM HUNDREDS OF CONSUMERS REGARDING THE SAME ISSUE DATED WAY BACK 2009, BUT IT SEEMED THAT NEITHER HONDA, NOR THE GOVERNMENT DID ANYTHING TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. I HOPE YOU ACT, BEFORE PEOPLE GET KILLED DUE TO THIS SAFETY HAZARD. I LEARNED WHEN I CHANGE MY OIL. I NOTICE THE SUBFRAME HAVE FELL OFF AND RUST OUT. I CALL THE HONDA DEALER AND THEY SENT ME TO V MAIL. *TR

I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE MECHANIC FOR TWO ISSUES: A POSSIBLE BRAKE FLUID LEAK, AND A WEAK TO ALMOST NONFUNCTIONAL A/C IN THE SUMMER MONTHS. HE TOLD ME THAT MY FRONT PASSENGER SEAT SUBFRAME WAS COMPLETELY ROTTED OUT DUE TO RUST (THE RUST WAS NOT MENTIONED WHATSOEVER DURING THE CAR'S INSPECTION ONLY 6 MONTHS PRIOR) AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. CHECKED ONLINE AND IT SEEMS TO BE A WIDELY PREVALENT ISSUE WITH GEN 6 ACCORDS (98 - 02). I'VE LIVED IN A SNOWY CITY FOR THE LIFE OF THE CAR, BUT THERE IS NO APPRECIABLE RUST ANYWHERE ELSE ON THE CAR. ONLY IN THIS ONE SPOT, WHICH IS DIRECTLY UNDER THE A/C DRAIN. HONDA CHANGED THE LOCATION OF THE A/C DRAIN IN 2003 (WITH THEIR 7TH GEN ACCORDS), AND THIS PROBLEM IS NOT AN ISSUE ON THOSE CARS. HONDA HAS SAID THAT IT IS JUST A COINCIDENCE, BUT THEY ARE BETTER OFF PUTTING OUT A RECALL AND COVERING THE COST OF REPLACING THESE FRONT PASSENGER SUBFRAMES THAN HAVING TO PAY FOR A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ONCE SOMEBODY IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED BECAUSE OF A ROTTING SUBFRAME. WHILE I THINK THAT MY WEAK A/C MAY BE WHAT CAUSED THE ACCELERATION OF THIS SUBFRAME ROT, IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE WITH THE SUBFRAME AND HONDA HAS MADE NO ATTEMPTS TO RECONCILE THE ISSUE. FORD DID A RECALL ON A 12 YEAR OLD CAR WHEN THEY DISCOVERED A DESIGN FLAW. I AM CONSULTING LAWYERS AT THIS TIME TO DETERMINE IF THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT BEFORE THERE IS A REPORT OF SOMEBODY DYING DUE TO THIS. *JS
FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF SUBFRAME ROTTED. DRIVER SIDE IS GOOD. INSPECTOR SAID HONDA WILL NOT FIX. THIS IS INEXCUSABLE. WHEN WILL NHTSA DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. SHOULD I CALL MY CONGRESS MAN TO GET THIS PROBLEM TO BE KNOWN TO THE MASS PUBLIC. I CANT BELIEVE THAT SOMEONE HASN'T BEEN KILLED WITH THIS BLATANTLY OBVIOUS DISREGARD FOR FAMILES WHO USE THESE CARS, AND NOT KNOW THE DANGER.REMINDS ME OF WHEN I CONTACTED THE NHSTA ON MY TOYOTA TACOMA FRAME RUSTING OFF THE TRUCK AND HAVING MY DAUGHTER IN THE TRUCK PRAYING WE COULD MAKE IT HOME. I ENDED UP SELLING THE TRUCK FOR HALF THE PRICE OF IT TO ONLY HEAR A MONTH LATER THAT TOYOTA WAS AT LEAST WILLING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. BUT TO LATE FOR ME AND A LOT OF OTHER OWNERS. *TR
