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
CONSUMERS 2004 HONDA ACCORD WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL AND HAS EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS. *TS ***NO ANSWER REQUIRED*** THE CONSUMER HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEDUCTIBLE. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES HONDA SHOULD REIMBURSE HIM THE AMOUNT OF THE DEDUCTIBLE. *NM
TRANSMISSION ON 2004 ACCORD STOPPING AT LIGHT WOULD NOT MOVE. HAD DEALER TOW CAR. NEEDS NEW TRANSMISSION WITH ONLY 19,000 MILES ON THIS . THIS IS A PROBLEM AND CAN CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH. *JB
MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS ON FEBRUARY 14TH, 2005: THE GEARS WOULD ENGAGE HARSHLY WHEN ACCELERATING ON CITY STREETS AND ON FREEWAY ON-RAMPS. THERE WERE A FEW INSTANCES WHEN THE ENGINE "OVER-REVVED" ON THE FREEWAY BECAUSE OF A SHIFTING PROBLEM. I EXPERIENCED TOTAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE ON FEBRUARY 14TH, 2005, WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS. THE VEHICLE WAS INOPERABLE, AND HAD TO BE TAKEN TO A MECHANIC. I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE TRANSMISSION UNDERWENT EXTENSIVE DAMAGE AND HAD TO BE REBUILT. THE MECHANIC ADVISED ME TO CONTACT AMERICAN HONDA AND TRY TO GET THEM TO REPAIR OR REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION FREE OF CHARGE, SINCE MY VEHICLE MAY HAVE BEEN RECALLED UNDER NHTSA BULLETIN 04V176000. HONDA WOULD NOT HONOR MY REQUEST, AS IT THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED AFTER THE DATES SPECIFIED IN THE BULLETIN. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE HAD AN ODOMETER READING OF ONLY 42,200 MILES WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED; NEVERTHELESS, AMERICAN HONDA REFUSES TO ACT UPON MY REQUEST FOR SERVICE AND REPAIR. I BELIEVE BULLETIN 04V176000 SHOULD BE AMENDED TO INCLUDE MORE-RECENTLY MANUFACTURED 2004 V-6 ACCORD SEDANS. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A RECALL #04V176000 ON THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FOR THE VEHICLE. AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN MAKING A HOWLING NOISE AND HAS NOT BEEN FUCTIONING PROPERLY. THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE TRANSFER CASE. THIS HAPPENED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND INCREASED WITH RPM'S. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP ON THREE OCCASIONS AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN REMEDIED. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED.
I HAVE A 2004 HONDA ACCORD LX WITH A FOUR CYLINDER ENGINE. LAST YEAR I REPORTED A DEFECT WHEREBY THE VEHICLE WAS ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE WHILE I WAS IN THE ACT OF STOPPING. I HAD TO USE BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL AND KICK THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO GET THE ENGINE TO COME BACK TO IDLE. WHEN I PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL THE ENGINE RPM'S WENT UP TO ALMOST 6000. I HAD THE VEHICLE CHECKED BY HERB CHAMBERS HONDA, IN BURLINGTON, MASS AND THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. HOWEVER, ON DEC 8, 2005, I WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN INTO A PARKING LOT AT A VERY LOW RATE OF SPEED AND THE VEHICLE DID THE VERY SAME THING! IT TOOK BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL, THE ENGINE SPED UP TO ALMOST 6000 RPM'S, KICK THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND FINALLY THE ENGINE DROPPED TO IDLE. THIS CONCERNS ME GREATLY. I'M SEVENTY YEARS OLD AND I RECOGNIZED THE PROBLEM, BUT MY WIFE WHO IS SEVENTY-TWO AND WHO DOESN'T USE THE CAR TOO OFTEN, MAY NOT RECOGNIZE THE PROBLEM, BE ABLE TO THINK OF THE SOLUTION AND HANDLE THE VEHICLE ALL AT ONCE. AFTER STARTING VEHICLE SURGES FORWARD WHEN SHIFTING GEARS INTERMITTENTLY. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
THREE MONTHS AGO I PURCHASED A NEW HONDA ACCORD AND ON NOVEMBER 28TH I NOTICED A UNSUAL SMELL AND PROCEDEED TO TAKE THE CAR INTO THE LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE CLUTCH ON MY VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED AND WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. LATER I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A WEAR AND TEAR ITEM AND THAT IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED. *AK
I OWNED A 2004 HONDA ACCORD 2 DOOR COUPE. I FILED FOR LEMON LAW BECAUSE AMERICAN HONDA REFUSED TO FIX A MAJOR TRANSMISSION OIL LEAK IN THE CAR. I HAVE WON THE LEMON LAW CASE, BUT WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT AMERICAN HONDA WAS NOT GOING TO RECALL ALL THE CARS WITH THAT TRANSMISSION, I FELT LIKE I HAD TO DO SOMETHING. THE PROBLEM IS DUE TO A LOW VENT VALVE ON THE SIX SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION ONLY HOLDS 2 QUARTS OF OIL. I PURCHASED THE CAR IN 9/2004. FROM 9/2004 TO 9/2005, I WITNESSED WELL OVER A QUART OF OIL SPILL OUT AND ONTO THE BOTTOM OF THE TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE. I HAVE A DETAILED OUTLINE THAT I CAN E-MAIL YOU ON REQUEST OUTLINING ALL OF THE VISITS TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE OUTCOME OF EACH VISIT. THE LOCATION WHERE THIS OIL COMES OUT, IS ALSO WHERE THE CLUTCH IS LOCATED. I HAD NOTICED CLUTCH SLIPPAGE SOON AFTER BUYING THE CAR. I AM ASSUMING THE CLUTCH WAS SLIPPING DUE TO THE OIL SOAKING THE CLUTCH PLATE AND DISK. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A FULL RECALL DONE ON ALL OF THESE TRANSMISSIONS. AMERICAN HONDA ADMITTED THAT THEY HAVE MODIFIED THE 2005 TRANSMISSION TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE, BUT WILL NOT RECALL THE OLD TRANSMISSION. *JB
PER NHTS RECALL RESULTS, I UNDERSTAND MY VEHICLE (2004 HONDA ACCORD 12,00 MILES) NEEDED TO BE RECALLED FOR AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. I CALLED HONDA AND WAS INFORMED THAT MY VEHICLE VIN # WAS NOT AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL. I AM CONFUSED AND CONCERNED SINCE NHTS STATED MY VEHICLE IS AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL.

BOUGHT A HONDA ACCORD 2004 V6 EX 3 WEEKS GO. ABOUT ONE WEEK AFTER I HAD THE CAR I NOTICED A HUMMING NOISE FROM THE TRANSMISSION. ROBERTSON HONDA IS JERKING ME AROUND TELLING ME THEY DON'T HEAR ONE. NOW I FIND OUT FROM YOUR WEB SITE THERE IS A TSB ABOUT THIS VERY ISSUE WITH AT LEAST ONE COMPLAINT FROM THE PRIOR YEAR WITH THE SAME ISSUE. LAST HONDA CAR I BUY.*AK
A RECALL FOR TRANSMISSION SECOND GEAR INSPECTION WAS ISSUED. THE CONSUMER CALLED TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT, AND DEALER STATED THAT NEXT AVAILABLE DATE IS NOT UNTIL DECEMBER. *AK
