The transmission in my 2004 Honda Accord V6 3.0L is experiencing a serious safety defect. The transmission overheats while driving, begins slipping, and eventually the vehicle will not move at all. When this happens, I lose the ability to accelerate or maintain speed, creating a dangerous situation for me and other drivers. I have to pull over and wait for the transmission to cool before the car will move again. This failure matches the symptoms described in Honda’s prior transmission recall 04V176000 (overheating and gear failure due to lubrication issues). I have contacted Honda about this issue, and they opened Case #16008926, but the problem is ongoing and has not been resolved. The problem is reproducible and happens repeatedly after the transmission warms up. Warning symptoms include overheating and severe slipping before total loss of movement. This is a major safety hazard because the vehicle can suddenly lose power in traffic.
2004 Honda Accord V6 178000k miles Car was just driving fine through all gears then out of nowhere as I was driving on the freeway going approximately 65 mph the car violently jerked because the transmission locked up and my car broke like if i pulled the emergency brake almost causing me to crash into another vehicle. The (RPM) then went up to redline. I pulled over restarted the car and as I tried to drive off, the cars (RPM) was way too high for example if I drove 40mph the (RPM) was at 4,000 revolutions witch can cause damage to the engine, If i went 60 mph and the (RPM) was at redline. So I had a friend tow the vehicle. Once home I drove around the neighborhood and the car won't switch gears it stays at 1st gear ( hence the high RPM) and it violently jerks the whole car very badly I'm assuming when it's supposed to switch gears. I got the following codes ( P0741, P0747) I checked all the solenoids with a professional scanner I was able to activate all the solenoids and all passed the test. Every single one clicked and showed they where in good condition. The next day I go drive it and it drives normal through all gears for an hour and then again it starts jerking violently / braking. I then replaced the solenoids and still the same problem. I did some research online and it seems a lot of people have trouble with these transmissions for this year I'm surprised it isn't recalled as it is very dangerous.
Second gear jumps erratically , loses power and won’t move until you shut the engine off and start again , second gear still jumps afterwards..
One day I was driving on the highway I all of a sudden lost power to acceleration. The rpm went up and I pulled over. Put it back in drive to a lower gear to make it home safe. Never had problems with my car until recently. It seems when I get up over 45mph is when the acceleration gives out.
Several months ago while driving on the freeway, the CEL came on and the engine revved high without any power to the wheels, as if the transmission automatically went into neutral. It eventually went back into gear. The car was subsequently towed back home and is not currently drivable since gears continue to slip.
I was having problems with my transmission and had a mechanic look at it and I was told there was a recall for 04 Honda accords, i was also told it was very dangerous to drive my car while my transmission wasn’t engaging properly

Transmission seems to disengage after 20 minutes of driving and the worse bthong about it is it does it on the highway causing me to pull over shit the car off and wait 5 minutes start it back up put it in the gear and sometimes it doesn't go in the gear it won't go into reverse we'll go in the drive we'll go in the drive 3 won't go in the drive to or one and then I got to shut it off and wait again then I do it all over again and then I'll get driving again and after about 3 minutes 4 minutes it'll do it again and I have to pull over why is it doing this it does it when I'm stopped at a stoplight and when the light turns green I drive and I'll get stuck in the middle of an intersection it'll be in drive but the engine just continues to rev and nothing happens it's scary it's on safe this needs to be a recall this needs to be fixed by Honda s*** it should be obvious that somebody could get killed

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PETERS HONDA OF NASHUA LOCATED AT (300 AMHERST ST, NASHUA, NH 03063) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 04V176000 (POWER TRAIN) HOWEVER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. WAS DRIVING MY DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL IN THE 2004 HONDA ACCORD V6. HEARD A LOUD POP AND IT JUST STOPPED AND REVVED UP IN EVERY GEAR AND WHEN I TRIED PUTTING IT IN PARK IT MADE A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED HOME AND IT HASN'T WORKED SINCE!

WHILE OUR SON WAS DRIVING HIS 2004 ACCORD THE TRANSMISSION, WITHOUT WARNING OR ANY INDICATION, WENT OUT AND HE LOST POWER WHILE GOING APPROXIMATELY 40MPH. IT IS APPARENT WITH EXTENSIVE RESEARCH THAT I HAVE DONE THAT TRANSMISSIONS IN THESE VEHICLES HAVE BEEN A KNOWN PROBLEM AND HONDA CORPORATE IS UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING TO INVESTIGATE WHAT CAUSED THE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE HAS HAD REGULAR MAINTENANCE DONE AND ALL THE PAPERWORK FOR ANYTHING MAJOR BEING DONE. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW IF YOU MAINTAIN A VEHICLE THAT SOMETHING LIKE THIS CAN OCCUR WITHOUT WARNING OR NO INDICATIONS THAT IS WAS ABOUT TO GO OUT.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED, BUT THE CONTACT WAS PLACED ON HOLD AND THEN THE CALL DISCONNECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 175,000.
HELLO, I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE COULD HELP ME WITH THIS. I OWN A 2004 HONDA ACCORD WHICH HAS LESS THAN 84K MILES. IT RECENTLY VERY SUDDENLY HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. NOW, A MECHANIC HAS DETERMINED IT MUST BE REPLACED. I THINK I FOUND AN APPLICABLE RECALL, RECALL NHTSA ID NUMBER: 04V176000 HONDA/AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. I LOOKED UP THE VIN NUMBER IN YOUR LOOKUP TOOL, BUT IT DID NOT SHOW UP. HOWEVER, I THINK THIS IS BECAUSE THE CAR AND/OR RECALL IS OVER 15 YEARS OLD. I BELIEVE I HAVE FOUND DOCUMENTS ON YOUR SITE THAT SHOW THAT THE VIN FALLS WITHIN THE POSSIBLY EFFECTED VEHICLES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE GEAR SHIFT FAILED AND SHIFTED INTO FIRST GEAR WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE AS LISTED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 04V176000 (POWER TRAIN). THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. WHILE PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC TRANSMISSION SLIPPING VERY BAD ALMOST CAUSE REAR END COLLISION. NOW SLIPS IN ALL GEARS. ALL MAINTENANCE WORK DONE AS REQUIRED BUT APPEARS TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED. CAR HAS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF VERY WELL AND NOW HAS 150K, BUT STILL THIS IS A SHOCK TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN TO HONDA AND I SEE ALL OVER THE INTERNET HONDA TRANSMISSION ISSUES

WHEN THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED INTO DRIVE, THE VEHICLE DID NOT MOVE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. IN ADDITION, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. CAR STOPPED WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY STREET. TRANSMISSION FAILURE.
THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED INTO NEUTRAL WHILE DRIVING, LUCKILY NO ACCIDENT, BUT LEFT ME STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION! COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS!
I WAS DRIVING ON AN EXPRESS WAY, AND ALL OF SUDDENLY THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT ENGAGE AND SLIP TO NEUTRAL WHILE MY ENGINE REV UP TO HIGHER RPM. MY SPEED LIMIT WENT FROM 50 TO ALMOST ZERO, BUT LUCKILY TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AND I WAS ABLE TO MOVE TO THE SHOULDER SAFELY. SAME THING HAPPENED TO MY SON A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO. I HAD MY TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGED YESTERDAY HOPING THIS WILL PREVENT IT FROM HAPPENING AGAIN.

TRANSMISSION SLIPPING AND GRINDING. TOOK IT TO OUR TRUSTED MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE TRANSMISSION IS FAILING AND HAS TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 128,000 MILES. THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL #: 04V176000 FOR 2003/2004 HONDAS DUE TO TRANSMISSION FAILURE WHICH COULD LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT. I CONTACTED HONDA AND THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO HELP.
I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK, EXITING THE DOWNTOWN AREA AND ENTERING THE FREEWAY, WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT RE-ENGAGE WITHOUT MOVING THE SHIFTER DOWN TO THE D3 GEAR FIRST. I WAS ABLE TO LIMP THE CAR USING THIS METHOD TO THE NEAREST TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP. THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR SEVERAL MORE TIMES ON THE DRIVE TO THE REPAIR FACILITY. IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A FAULTY THIRD CLUTCH AND A REPAIR ESTIMATE OF $3200-3400 FOR A REBUILT TRANSMISSION. I CHOSE A DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOP, WITH AN EQUALLY GOOD REPUTATION, AND HAD THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT FOR $2700. IT HAS BEEN BACK TO THE SAME REPAIR SHOP 3 TIMES AFTER THE REBUILD WITH SIMILAR SYMPTOMS. THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE RECURRING SLIPPAGE. RESEARCH REVEALS THAT HUNDREDS OF OTHER HONDA ACCORD OWNERS HAVE ENCOUNTERED THE SAME ISSUE OF TRANSMISSION FAILURE. IT APPEARS TO BE THE SAME PARTS FAILING IN A MAJORITY OF INSTANCES. THE TRANSMISSION WILL SLIP OUT OF GEAR FROM A DEAD STOP, IN MOTION AT SLOW SPEEDS OR MODERATE SPEEDS WITH NO DETECTABLE PATTERN. THE TRANSMISSION FAILING WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION CREATES AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, POTENTIALLY FATAL, DRIVING SITUATION. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. HONDA HAS ISSUED A RECALL ON THIS TRANSMISSION ALREADY BUT NOT FOR THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE DOESN'T QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL. *TR
THE CAR WAS JUST AMAZING WHEN I BOUGHT IT. EVEN THO I PURCHASED IT USED I WENT STRAIGHT TO A SERVICE SHOP HAD THE OIL CHANGED AND COMPLETE TUNE UP DONE EXPECTING TO ENJOY THIS CAR I HAVE ALWAYS HEARD GREAT THINGS ABOUT. THE FIRST COUPLE MONTHS WERE GREAT, NO WORRIES. THEN IT SEEMS LIKE OUT OF NO WHERE I NOTICED A SLIGHT DIFFERENCE IN THE WAY IT DROVE, JUST THE COMPLETE FEELING OF THE CAR WAS DIFFERENT. THE NEXT DAY I WENT OUT TO EAT AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED HARD. OKAY I THOUGHT JUST NEED TO PAY ATTENTION, THAT NIGHT WHEN HEADING TO THE STORE IS WHEN IT BECAME CONSTANT, SHIFTING FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE A HARD SHIFT, FROM 1TO2 SLIP 2TO3 SLIP, THEN ONCE IT HEATED UP STOPPED. TODAY IS THE SECOND DAY OF HAVING TO DRIVE IT AND THE LIGHT FOR THE ENGINE CAME ON. THE CAR HAS ONLY 160,000 MILES ON IT, SUPPOSEDLY STILL IN ITS PRIME ACCORDING TO EARLY HONDA OWNERS, MY COUSIN HAD A EARLY 90'S MODEL ACCORD I KNOW LIVED TO ALMOST 300,000 ON THE SAME ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION. WHAT MAKES THIS GENERATION NOT ACCOUNTABLE OR NOT AS WORTHY OF THE SAME QUALITY THAT HAS GIVEN HONDA THE LOYALTY OF CUSTOMERS IT HAS NOW. THEY HAVE THE AUDACITY TO TURN A BLIND EYE ON THIS PROBLEM, KNOWING THAT THESE PROBLEMS ARE A SELF INFLICTED AND THE DIRECT RESULT OF CHEAP PARTS AND A DESIGN FLAW THEY ALLOWED TO BE MASS PRODUCED KNOWING, THE "CERTAINTY" OF MASS FAILURE IT WOULD CREATE AFTER THE WARRANTY FREEING THEM OF LIABILITY. LEAVING THE DEDICATED CUSTOMERS, THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE HELPED HONDA BUILD THERE FOOT HOLD ON THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY IN THE USA, IN THE WIND. WHERE IS THE JUSTICE, THE ACCOUNTABILITY, KNOWINGLY PRODUCING A PRODUCT THAT'S DESIGN IS INADEQUATE, KNOWING DUE TO IMPROPER FLUID CONTROL OR LACK OF PROPER FLUID FLOW WILL UNDOUBTEDLY CAUSE FAILURE OF THE POWERTRAIN.
