WITH LESS THAN 6,500 MILES, THE CIVIC SI CONTINUES TO GRIND ON 3RD GEAR ON A DAY TO DAY BASIS. TODAY FEBRUARY 17TH 2008, WHILE SHIFTING AT HIGHER RPM'S, 2ND GEAR REFUSES TO ENGAGE WHICH CAUSED THE GEAR TO GRIND ATROCIOUSLY. SEVERAL COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN FILED AND OWNERS ARE HAVE YET TO BE CONTACTED WITH INFORMATION REGARDING THIS. THIS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM CAUSES THE CAR TO SLOW DOWN EXCESSIVELY WHILE SHIFTING PROBLEM IS OCCURRING AND IS A SAFETY HAZARD FOR MYSELF AND DRIVER BEHIND ME. *TR
I OWN A STANDARD TRANSMISSION 2007 CIVIC SI. I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO 1ST GEAR AND STARTED MOVING. I THEN TRIED TO SHIFT FROM 1ST GEAR INTO 2ND AT APPROXIMATELY 3500 RPM. I HAD THE CLUTCH PEDAL FULLY DEPRESSED BUT COULD NOT PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO 2ND GEAR. I PUT THE TRANSMISSION BACK INTO NEUTRAL AND TRIED AGAIN TO SHIFT INTO 2ND GEAR. SECOND GEAR FINALLY ENGAGED BUT WAS ACCOMPANIED WITH A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. THIS SITUATION WAS DANGEROUS BECAUSE I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION WITH NO POWER. I WAS FOCUSED ON TRYING TO FIGURE WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR AND COULD NOT FOCUS ON THE ROAD. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE YET TO REMEDY THIS SITUATION. I AM TAKING MY CAR TO MY DEALERSHIP TO SEE WHAT IS WRONG.*CN
2007 HONDA CIVIC SI (5,000 MILES ON CAR). THE SIX SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION HAS A PROBLEM WHEN SHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. IT SOMETIMES WILL NOT GO INTO GEAR OR WILL POP OUT OF 3RD. THIS CREATES A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO AVOID AN ONCOMING CAR. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP KEEPS SAYING THAT THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. LOOK ON THE INTERNET AND YOU WILL HAVE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS OF THE VERY SAME THING ON THIS MODEL CAR. *TR
2007 HONDA CIVIC SI, COMPLAINT IS REGARDING THE MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS 3RD GEAR ENGAGEMENT. AT TIMES ITS ENGAGEMENT MAY VARY FROM BEING TIGHT TO GRINDING AND MAY EVEN DISENGAGE OR (POP OUT OF GEAR). THIS MAY LEAD TO A MOMENTARY LAPSE IN CONCENTRATION AND AT TIMES A SOMEWHAT LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLES DRIVEABILITY WHEN THIS OCCURS ABRUPTLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY. IF THIS EVENT OCCURS AT AN INAPPROPRIATE TIME WHEN DRIVING, IT IS MY OPINION THAT IT MAY HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO LEAD TO ACCIDENT'S CAUSING INJURY. *CN
I PURCHASED HONDA CIVIC SI 2007,FROM NORM REEVES HONDA SUPP.DEALER. ON 7/31/07 SOMEONE REAR ENDED MY BUMPER, THE CAR WAS REPAIRED, A COUPLE MONTHS LATER THE CAR CAN NOT GO IN GEAR AT ALL. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 5,800 MILEAGES USED .BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALER, THEY REPLACED BEARING, DISK. PRESSURE, DISK FRICTION, AND FLYWHEEL. IT COST ME $ 1512.15 PLUS $200.00 TOWING. THE DEALER REFUSE TO PAY FOR REPAIRS, THEY SAID IT IS NOT IN THE WARRANTY. PLEASE HELP ME TO RECOVER THIS COST. THANK MUCH FOR YOUR HELP. *TR
HONDA CIVIC HYBRID, CAR WAS WORKING FINE AT PURCHASE, ONCE THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED IT HAS BEEN OCCURRING FREQUENTLY EVER SINCE. THE MALFUNCTION MOSTLY OCCURS AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN PARKED IS THE HOT SUN, ONCE ENGINE IS STARTED WITHIN 3-10 MINUTES ENGINE WILL RUN ROUGH, THE IMA SYSTEM (INTEGRATED MOTOR ASSIST) WILL START CHARGING THE IMA BATTERY (158 VOLT NICKEL METAL HYDRIDE BATTERY) THEN SUDDENLY EMPTY THE COMPLETE CHARGE OF THE IMA BATTERY WITHIN 10 SECONDS. WHILE THE IMA SYSTEM IS MALFUNCTIONING WHICH IS USUALLY 5-20 MINUTES THE BRAKING IS SEVERELY AFFECTED; WHEN LETTING OFF THE ACCELERATOR THE CAR DOES NOT WANT TO SLOW DOWN, IT FEELS LIKE THE CRUISE CONTROL IS ON AND BRAKING FORCE IS GREATLY REDUCED. ALSO, WHILE THE IMA SYSTEM IS MALFUNCTIONING, THE IMA ASSIST ELECTRIC MOTOR STOPS WORKING AND THE ACCELERATION IS SEVERELY REDUCED TO THE POINT THAT IT IS DIFFICULT TO ACCELERATE WITH THE TRAFFIC, IF YOU HAD TO ACCELERATE IN A HURRY TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT, IT WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE WHILE MALFUNCTIONING. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS SEVERAL TIMES PER WEEK DURING THE WARMER MONTHS, SOMETIMES SEVERAL TIMES PER DAY. ALSO, SINCE THIS MALFUNCTION HAS STARTED THE GAS MILEAGE HAS SEVERELY DROPPED. CAR HAS BEEN IN FOR SERVICE SEVERAL TIMES AND I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY HONDA THAT THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT MANY CIVIC HYBRIDS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM AND HONDA IS NOT CURRENTLY ADDRESSING THIS. THIS MALFUNCTION MAKES THIS CAR AN UNSAFE HAZARD TO DRIVE.*TR

THEY ADMIT TRANSMISSION FIX WILL BE COMING OUT IN 2008, BUT ONLY CERTAIN VIN#'S ARE COVERED. I AM NOT UNDERSTANDING THIS SINCE IT HAS BEEN A PROBLEM EVEN IN OTHER YEAR AND MAKES WITH SAME ISSUES! 2001 HONDA CIVIC WITH 65,000 MILES HAS HAD TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS REQUIRING REPLACEMENT/REPAIR ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS; EACH TIME WITH THE SAME PROBLEM...THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS BEFORE ENGAGING FULLY IN DRIVE, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LEAP FORWARD WITHOUT PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR, CREATING A DANGEROUS CONDITION. MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER HAS REPAIRED OR REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION 3 TIMES, STATING THIS IS A CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS ON CERTAIN MODELS OF HONDA FOR 2001. THE PROBLEM HAS NOW RECURRED AT 65,000 MILES. THE MANUFACTURER IS FULLY AWARE OF THE DEFECT WHICH REPEATEDLY MANIFESTS ITSELF OVER THE LIFE OF THIS VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS FULLY AWARE THE PROBLEM WAS PRESENT ON THE CAR WHEN I BOUGHT IT. HOW LONG WILL NHTSA ALLOW THE MANUFACTURER TO IGNORE A SERIOUS DEFECT AND LET A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS CONDITION CONTINUE? JUDGING FROM THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS LISTED ON YOUR WEBSITE, THE PROBLEM IS FOUND ON A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF 2001 HONDAS EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. SINCE THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, EVEN WHEN REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION, I BELIEVE THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD RECALL THE VEHICLE AND PROVIDE A REDESIGNED TRANSMISSION TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. OTHERWISE THESE VEHICLES WILL BECOME MORE DANGEROUS AS THEY AGE. *TR
WHEN ACCELERATING, SHIFTING INTO THIRD GEAR IS NEVER RELIABLE. WHEN YOU SHIFT FROM 2ND GEAR TO 3RD, IT GRINDS AND THEN POPS OUT. THIS LEADS ME TO OVER REV THE ENGINE. CURRENTLY, THERE IS NO SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS PROBLEM NOR IS THEIR A RECALL. *TR
THIRD GEAR INTERMITTENTLY DOES NOT ENGAGE OR IS VERY DIFFICULT TO ENGAGE. IS ESPECIALLY BAD WHEN IT IS COLD OUT. *TR
EXCESSIVE PROBLEMS WITH TRANSMISSION. PARTICULARLY THIRD GEAR, WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PUT SHIFT LEVER INTO THIRD GEAR SYNCHRONIZERS GRIND AND ON OCCASION SHIFT LEVER POPS FROM GEAR INTO NEUTRAL. *TR
(1) NORMAL DRIVING OF MANUAL TRANSMISSION. (2) EVERYDAY WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP 3RD GEAR MISSES, DOESN'T LOCK INTO GEAR, OR POPS OUT OF GEAR AND GRINDS. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE IS DIFFICULT TO DRIVE AND BACKS UP TRAFFIC DUE TO THE SLOW ACCELERATION. *TR

I OWN A 2007 HONDA CIVIC SI. I HAVE HEARD A POPPING TYPE SOUND COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE CAR OR ON THE DRIVETRAIN. I HEAR IT WHEN GOING INTO OR OUT OF DRIVEWAYS. MY 2001 HONDA CIVIC, DIED ON ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY. I COULDN'T ACCELERATE SO I HAD TO PUSH IT OUT OF THE FREEWAY. I TOWED TO A FAMILY MECHANIC, AND HE SAID THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REBUILT. IT WAS GOIN G TO COST ME $1800 FOR IT. MY CAR ONLY HAS 78,000 MILES, IT IS RIDICULOUS FOR THIS TO HAPPENED WHEN YOU TAKE GOOD CARE OF THE CAR, I HAD JUST DONE DE 60,000 MILE SERVICE, AND THE TRANSMISSION STILL DIED. I HAVE CALLED HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND THEY SAID THERE IS NMOTHING THEY CAN DO. I HAVE CHECKED ONLINE, AND THERE IS A LOT OF CARS THAT ARE SUFFERING THE SAME THING, IT IS DEFINITELY A MANUFACTURE PROBLEM, SOME TYPE OF FAILURE. *TR
THE HONDA CIVIC SI MANUAL TRANSMISSION CAN BE VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVEN COLD. WHEN SHIFTING INTO THIRD GEAR THERE IS FEELING THAT THE GEAR ISN'T ALL THE WAY IN. WHEN THE CLUTCH IS RELEASED THE GEAR WILL POP OUT. THIS PROBLEM IS ALSO COMMON IN OTHER HONDA VEHICLE'S SUCH AS THE RSX. THIS PROBLEM INCREASES THE CHANCES OF BEING REAR ENDED AND ALSO PUTS TREMENDOUS WEAR ON THE TRANSMISSION AS THE GEAR POPS AND GRINDS. HONDA SERVICE TELLS ME THAT ITS IS MY DRIVING THAT IS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM BUT OVER A THOUSAND THREADS HAS BEEN POSTED ONLINE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. HONDA HAS DONE NOTHING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM EXCEPT CALL US POOR DRIVERS. *JB
THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION SHIFTS BADLY, AND THERE HAVE BEEN OCCASIONS WHEN IT WON'T GO INTO GEAR. ALSO, WHEN COLD, AND IN LOWER GEARS, IT IS VERY HESITANT AND CHOPPY. I BELIEVE IT'S THE THROTTLE. MANY TIMES, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE WEATHER IS COLDER, THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION WILL POP OUT OF THIRD GEAR/GRIND/OR WILL NOT EVEN ENGAGE IN THIRD. THIS IS DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC OR WHEN TURNING A CORNER BECAUSE IT CAUSES A QUICK DECELERATION AND THE PERSON BEHIND YOU CAN'T ANTICIPATE THAT YOU ARE GOING TO SLOW DOWN SUDDENLY BECAUSE THERE IS NO BRAKING INVOLVED. NOT TO MENTION, AFTER THIS OCCURS, THE ENGINE REVS DUE TO THE MISSED GEAR, AND YOU HAVE TO QUICKLY SHIFT INTO SECOND OR FOURTH GEAR TO GET GOING ONCE AGAIN. THIS IS A HIGH RATE PROBLEM AND CAN BE PROVEN WITH A SIMPLE WWW SEARCH- IT IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET CAR FORUMS AND EVEN HAS BEEN REPORTED BY EDMUNDS.COM. SOME PEOPLE SAY THEIR DEALER IS REPLACING THE TRANS FLUID AS A FIX AND IT HELPS, OTHERS ARE DOING IT AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE BECAUSE THEIR DEALER REFUSES TO ASSIST. MY DEALER WON'T ADMIT TO THE ISSUE. *JB

I BOUGHT A 2007 HONDA CIVIC SI ON DECEMBER 18, 2006. IN LESS THAN 700 MILES THE CLUTCH BURNED OUT. HONDA AMERICA AGREED TO PAY FOR THE LABOR TO REPAIR IT, BUT WANTED ME TO PAY FOR THE PARTS. ( ABOUT $300) THEY ALSO AGREED TO PAY FOR A RENTAL CAR FOR FOUR DAYS WHILE MY CAR WAS BEING REPAIRED. I SEE NO REASON WHY I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PARTS, SINCE I CONSIDER THE PROBLEM TO BE A FACTORY DEFECT. THE CAR HAS A SIX SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. I KNOW HOW TO DRIVE A STANDARD, AND I'M CONVINCED THAT I DID NOTHING TO CAUSE THIS PROBLEM. *NM
