EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR ON MY 2007 HONDA HYBRID - PROBLEMS WITH THE REAR SUSPENSION CAUSING THE REAR TIRES TO WEAR OUT EXCESSIVELY FAST ON THE INNER PORTION OF THE TIRE LEADING TO UNUSUAL TIRE WEAR PATTERNS. *TR
I HAVE A 07' CIVIC SI SEDAN. I HAD TO REPLACE MY REAR TIRES AS WELL. I TRIED TO HAVE THE REAR ALIGNMENT DONE, BUT THE REAR CONTROL ARM WERE OUT AND ARE NOT ADJUSTABLE. THE DEALER STATED THERE IS A PROBLEM W/ THE ARMS BUT IT DID NOT COME OUT INCLUDING THE SI, ONLY THE LX & EX. I HOPE IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THEY INCLUDE THE SI. IT IS THE SAME PART #. *TR
EXCESSIVE VIBRATION WHERE IT FEELS LIKE THE BACK END OF THE CAR IS JUMPING UP AND DOWN. ALSO HAS EXTREMELY LOUD TIRE NOISE. TIRES HAVE EXCESSIVE WEAR. DEALER SAID I JUST NEED NEW TIRES, AND WHEN SEARCHING FOR NEW TIRES ON INTERNET, I DISCOVERED THAT OTHERS HAVE THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I AM HAVING REAR SUSPENSION ARM CONTROL ISSUES WITH MY HONDA I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW IT NOW HAS UNDER 30,000 AND NEEDS THE REAR ARM CONTROLS REPLACED, THIS HAS BEEN RECALLED ON OTHER CIVIC'S BUT NOT ON MINE. I HAVE CONTACTED HONDA CORPORATION, AND HAVE NOT GOTTEN A ANSWER BACK FROM THEM. I HAVE LOOKED ON LIKE TO FIND THAT MANY OTHER CIVIC SI OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID - THE OEM REAR SUSPENSION GEOMETRY WEARS THE INNER EDGE OF THE TIRES EXTREMELY QUICKLY. HONDA ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN (08-001) IDENTIFYING AND CORRECTING THE PROBLEM WITH REPLACEMENT UPPER CONTROL ARMS. THE DEALER/HONDA REFUSES TO COVER PARTS/LABOR CHARGES FOR CORRECTION ON A CAR THAT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY ANYMORE. THIS IS CLEARLY A DESIGN DEFECT THAT IMPACTS SAFETY AND I BELIEVE THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD CORRECT IT AT THEIR EXPENSE. *TR
EXCESSIVE AND PREMATURE REAR TIRE WEAR DUE TO DEFECTIVE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS. *TR
ME AND MY FIANCE PURCHASED A 2007 HONDA CIVIC SI. THIS IS THE SECOND 07 SI WE HAVE OWNED. ON BOTH OF THE CIVICS I HAD THAT PROBLEM WITH 3RD GEAR POPPING OUT AND ALSO GRINDS SOMETIMES GOING INTO 3RD. ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO THE CAR STARTED DRIVING FUNNY, AND THE REAR END WAS SLIGHTLY MOVING SIDE TO SIDE ON THE HIGHWAY. I CHECKED AND NOTICED THE TIRES WERE ALMOST GONE IN THE REAR. WITH ONLY 22000 MILES THE TIRES SHOULD NOT BE WEARING DOWN SO ALL OF THE WIRES ARE SHOWING IN THE TIRE. I WAS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS CAUSING IT. I ALREADY KNEW THE ALIGNMENT WAS OFF, BUT I JUST FELT LIKE SOMETHING ELSE WAS WRONG. I CALLED MY DAD AND TOLD HIM WHAT WAS GOING ON. A COUPLE DAYS LATER HE FOUND A WHOLE BUNCH OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT 2006-2007 CIVICS, WITH EXCESSIVE WEARING OF THE BACK TIRES. IT TURNS OUT THERE ARE A WHOLE BUNCH OF PEOPLE WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. IT IS CAUSED BY BAD CONTROL ARMS IN THE BACK OF THE CAR. I ALSO FOUND OUT THAT HONDA HAS MADE A BULLETIN OF THIS, BUT HAS NOT YET ISSUED A RECALL. I CALLED THE MANAGER TO WHERE WE BOUGHT THE CAR, AND TOLD HIM THAT MY TIRES WE WORE DOWN TO THE WIRES. ACCORDING TO HIM HE CONSIDERED THAT NORMAL WEAR. NOW THAT I KNOW OF THIS PROBLEM, I GOT IN CONTACT WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER WHO IS LOOKING AT MY CAR ON MONDAY. I HAVE PRINTED OFF ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS AND THE PICS OF THEIR TIRES SO I CAN SHOW HIM. IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS ABOUT THE CAR I WOULD HAVE NOT PURCHASED IT. I HAVE ALWAYS OWNED HONDA\'S, BUT I AM NOT VERY IMPRESSED WITH THIS 07 SI. MY 1991 INTEGRA RUNS AND DRIVES A HELL OF A LOT BETTER. I AM ALSO CALLING HONDA\'S CUSTOMER SERVICE TO MAKE A COMPLAINT. THEY WILL ONLY REPAIR CARS TO YOUR COMPLAINT IF YOU HAVE ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS. *TR
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A USED 2007 HONDA CIVIC, AND NOTICED ON MY FIRST DRIVE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THAT THE REAR TIRES MADE QUITE A BIT OF NOISE. UPON INSPECTION BY A LOCAL MECHANIC, HE DETERMINED THAT THE TIRES WERE CUPPED AND UNUSUALLY WORN FOR A CAR WITH ONLY 18,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. I HAD THE TIRES REPLACED. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND FOUND THAT THERE IS A REAR SUSPENSION CONTROL ARM SERVICE BULLETIN FROM HONDA REGARDING THIS PROBLEM, BUT NO OFFICIAL RECALL. I WILL CONTACT MY LOCAL DEALER REGARDING THIS SERVICE BULLETIN, BUT SINCE I HAD THE TIRES REPLACED I'M WORRIED THAT THEY WILL NOT SEE A "PROBLEM" AND WILL NOT FIX THE ISSUE. I FEEL THAT THERE IS ENOUGH EVIDENCE FOR THE NHTSA TO FORCE HONDA TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS, AS THE UNEVEN AND RAPID TIRE WEAR IS AN EXPENSIVE AND POTENTIALLY DEADLY SITUATION CAUSED BY HONDA'S MISTAKE.
UNEVEN TIRE WEAR CAUSED BY REAR SUSPENSION PROBLEMS. I AM NOW ON MY 4TH SET OF TIRES FOR MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC LX SEDAN WITH 58,000 MILES. EACH TIME I HAVE REPLACED THE TIRES, I THOUGHT THE WEAR WAS TIRE RELATED. 6-11-08, I LEARNED FROM THE HONDA DEALER, THE PROBLEMS WAS BECAUSE OF A DEFECTIVE REAR SUSPENSION. HONDA (THE MFG.) HAS DECLINED TO ASSIST WITH THE PAYMENT FOR ANY OF THE TIRES. SOMEONE IS GOING TO HAVE A BAD ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM AND POSSIBLY SEVERE INJURIES. *TR
HONDA INSTALLED "OUT OF TOLERANCE" UPPER CONTROL ARMS (REAR) ON ALL 2006, 2007, AND POSSIBLY SOME 2008 HONDA CIVICS WHICH CAUSES ABNORMAL TIRE WEAR ON THE REAR (CUPPING). I PURCHASED 2007 CIVIC AND BROUGHT THE PROBLEM TO THE DEALERS ATTENTION AT ~6000 MILES. AT THIS TIME HONDA HAD NOT ISSUED A TSB (TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN) AND I ENDED UP HAVING TO REPLACE MY ORIGINAL TIRES. SHORTLY AFTERWARDS, I NOTICED THE SAME KIND OF TIRE WEAR PROBLEM...RESEARCHED (ON MY OWN) AND FOUND THAT HONDA HAD ISSUED TSB...001 (FIRST TSB OF YEAR 2008) I BELIEVE IN FEBRUARY OF 2008 (PROBLEM HAD STARTED IN 2005 WITH INITIAL DELIVERY OF 2006 MODEL CIVICS) I'VE SPENT ALMOST $1,400 IN REPLACING TIRES, COUNTLESS HOURS ON THE PHONE WITH DEALERSHIPS, AND HONDA AMERICA...FINALLY HAVE MY CAR FIXED (ALMOST 6 MONTHS AFTER I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE PROBLEM) AND HAVE NOT BEEN COMPENSATED...I'VE HAD A CASE OPEN WITH HONDA AMERICA SINCE FEBRUARY 2008. *TR
2007 HONDA CIVIC HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TIRES. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE TIRES HAVE UNEVEN WEAR CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE CONTROL ARMS. *NJ THE MANUFACTURER WAS WILLING TO REPLACE THE REAR CONTROL ARMS, BUT NOT THE TIRES. *JB
MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC EX STARTED TO VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND THERE WAS AN INCREDIBLY LOUD "HOWLING" NOISE COMING FROM THE BACK TIRES. I TOOK IT IN REPEATEDLY AND WAS TOLD THAT MY TIRES WERE FINE, AND THAT ESSENTIALLY I WAS IMAGINING THIS PROBLEM AND OR BLOWING IT OUT OF PROPORTION. IT WAS ONLY RECENTLY THAT I LEARNED OF HONDA'S SERVICE BULLETIN 08-001 FOR UNEVEN AND OR RAPID TIRE WEAR. WITH INFORMATION IN HAND, I WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO WHICH THEY ACTED LIKE THEY KNEW NOTHING OF THE BULLETIN. AFTER KEEPING MY CAR FOR THE DAY, THEY SAID IN THE FIRST CALL THAT IT WAS DUE TO LACK OF ROTATION (EVEN THOUGH) I ROTATE EVERY 10K ,THEN THEY CALL BACK AND SAY THAT MY BACK TWO TIRES ARE WORN-OUT; BUT THE WEAR IS NOT COMPARABLE TO THE WEAR THAT WOULD FALL UNDER THE BULLETIN. THEY THEN PROCEED TO TELL ME THAT IT IS TYPICAL TO HAVE TO REPLACE YOUR TIRES EVERY 30-40K MILES. I HAVE OWNED 7 HONDAS AND HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE TIRES THAT SOON. IT IS JUST AMAZING TO ME THAT I HAVE DETAILED EVERY SYMPTOM IN THAT BULLETIN, PRIOR TO EVEN KNOWING THAT IT EXISTED AND THEY ARE GOING TO TELL ME THAT IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM. I AM TAKING IT TO ANOTHER HONDA DEALERSHIP AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS RESOLVED. I AM SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED IN HONDA. *TR
REAR CONTROL ARM NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT HONDA FOR SOME REASON DOESN'T WANT TO DO A RECALL ON. THIS PROBLEM HAS MADE MY TIRES WEAR FASTER THAN USUAL. HONDA IS OFFERING VERY LITTLE TOWARDS REPLACING MY TIRES. I HAVE 17,000 MILES ON MY CAR. MY PART WAS ORDERED A WEEK AGO AND STILL WAITING FOR IT TO COME IN. THIS IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I FEEL HONDA SHOULD PUT NEW TIRES ON MY LEASED CAR. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND I WORRY ABOUT MY LONG DISTANCE DRIVING. IS THIS PART GOING TO BREAK AND HAVE MY TIRES FALL OFF???? I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINANT WITH HONDA. I THINK HONDA SHOULD STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND REPLACE THE TIRES. *TR
TIRE VIBRATION STARTED AT 5,000 MILES. DEALER ROTATED AND BALANCED TIRES AND SAID YOU ARE ALL SET. DRIVING HOME ON THE HIGHWAY NOTICED VIBRATION WAS STILL PRESENT. NEXT VISIT TOOK SERVICE FOR A RIDE AND THEY SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE BAD REAR WHEEL BEARING THAT THEY DID NOT STOCK. LEFT THE CAR FOR TWO DAYS AND WHEN I CAME PICK THE CAR UP THEY SAID WE CHANGED THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BEARING? I SAID I WAS TOLD THEY WERE CHANGING THE REARS? THEY SAID NOPE THE RIGHT FRONT WAS THE PROBLEM. DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED IT WAS THE SAME AS BEFORE. CALLED THE DEALER AND ASKED IF ANYONE ACTUALLY TEST DROVE THE CAR AFTER REPAIR. MECHANIC SAID THE CAR WAS FINE? BROUGHT THE CAR BACK AGAIN AND TOOK THE SERVICE MANAGER FOR A RIDE HE SAID YES IT SOUNDS LIKE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS. LEFT THE CAR AGAIN FOR TWO DAYS AND WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR THEY SAID THEY CHANGED THE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS AND A RECALL THAT CAME IN FOR THE REAR ABS SENSOR AND SEALS. DRIVING HOME SAME VIBRATION. ALSO A RATTLE COMING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE DASH AREA WAS NEVER FIXED IN FOUR TRIES. I NOW HAVE 34,000 MILES AND THE TIRES ARE COMPLETELY WORN OUT AND THIS WOULD SUGGEST THAT THEIR IS A SEVERE SUSPENSION PROBLEMS WITH THE 2007 CIVIC LX. DEALER HAS NO CLUE. PLEASE READ ALL THE COMPLAINTS ON TIRE WEAR AND IF YOU ARE THINKING HONDA THINK AGAIN. *TR
THIS COMPLAINT CONCERNS THE DEFECT ON THE HONDA 2006-2007 CIVIC OF THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS. I HAD MINE REPLACED AFTER ONLY 15 MONTHS OF USE BECAUSE THEY WERE INCORRECTLY MANUFACTURED, CAUSING LOUD VIBRATIONS AT NORMAL HIGHWAY DRIVING SPEEDS. THIS DEFECT ALSO CAUSED EXCESSIVE AND NOT NORMAL WARE ON MY TIRES CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO REPLACE THEM AT MY OWN EXPENSE INSTEAD OF ON HONDA'S DOLLAR AS THEY WORE DOWN DUE TO A HONDA RELATED ISSUE. *TR
FACSIMILE FROM CONGRESSMAN JACK KINGSTON ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT, WHO IS SEEKING ASSISTANCE REGARDING PROBLEMS HE IS EXPERIENCING WITH THE REAR SWING ARMS OF HIS 2007 HONDA CIVIC. *NJ THE CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD TIRE NOISE AND NOTICED THE REAR TIRES WERE TILTED INWARD, INDICATING THE ALIGNMENT WAS INCORRECT. ALL FOUR TIRES WERE WORN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT WAS THE SWING ARMS THAT WERE DESIGNED IMPROPERLY THAT CAUSED THE TIRES TO WEAR EXCESSIVELY. *JB
I PURCHASED A 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID IN SEPTEMBER OF 2007. I FOLLOW REGULAR MAINTENANCE SCHEDULES AS RECOMMENDED BY MY DEALER. AS OF 8-18-2008, MY VEHICLE HAD OVER 12000 MILES ON IT. THE DAY PRIOR TO A REGULARLY SCHEDULED OIL CHANGE, TIRE ROTATION AND MISC. INSPECTION, I ENCOUNTERED A FLAT TIRE. UPON INSPECTION OF THE FLAT TIRE AND OTHER REAR TIRE, IT WAS NOTED THAT BOTH REAR TIRES WERE COMPLETELY BALD. BOTH TIRES WERE REPLACED THAT SAME DAY. ON THE FOLLOWING DAY, I TOOK MY CAR TO MY SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT AT THE HONDA DEALER. I EXPRESSED MY CONCERN THAT I FELT THERE WAS A PROBLEM THAT LED TO PREMATURE WEAR ON THE REAR TIRES AND THAT I ALSO WANTED TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE COST OF THE NEW TIRES. IN MY CONVERSATION WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY SUSPECTED THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO A "CONTROL ARM" ISSUE AND HE TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE SEEN THIS ISSUE MANY TIMES BEGINNING WITH THE 2006 MODEL. ULTIMATELY, THEY REPLACED/ REPAIRED THE CONTROL ARM AT NO CHARGE, PHOTOGRAPHED THE TIRES, RETAINED THE DAMAGED TIRES AND OFFERED TO ATTEMPT TO SECURE A REFUND TO COVER THE COST OF NEW TIRES. I EXPRESSED MY STRONG OPINION THAT HONDA SHOULD HAVE MADE THIS POTENTIAL PROBLEM AWARE TO ALL HONDA CUSTOMERS. I BELIEVE IT IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND I FEEL FORTUNATE THAT MY FAMILY AND I WERE NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO RAPID WEAR OF THE TIRES. AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE, I DID SOME INTERNET RESEARCH AND WAS ASTOUNDED TO READ OF MANY INCIDENTS THAT WERE NEARLY IDENTICAL TO MINE. IT LOOKS AS THOUGH THIS ISSUE IS VERY COMMON TO THE HONDA CIVIC AND MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME COMPLAINTS. THIS ISSUE NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION AND I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF ALL INDIVIDUALS RIDING/DRIVING IN THESE VEHICLES. I AM CONSIDERING SELLING MY CIVIC HYBRID. I WILL CONTINUE TO TRY TO BRING ATTENTION TO THIS ISSUE. *TR
2007 HONDA CIVIC LX VIBRATES EXCESSIVELY AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH SHAKING DRIVER AND PASSENGERS TO THE POINT THAT CONVERSATION VIA BLUETOOTH HANDS FREE DEVICE IS GREATLY IMPAIRED. THE VIBRATION HAS ALREADY LED TO EARLY TIRE WEAR AND THE VEHICLE PULLS TO THE RIGHT WHEN DRIVING. I HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR WHEEL ALIGNMENT TWICE AND REPLACED BOTH REAR TIRES ONCE AND A SECOND REAR TIRE A SECOND TIME SEEMINGLY DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. I ALSO FEAR DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE OR THAT THERE WILL BE THREATENED VEHICLE SAFETY, AS THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT IS SHAKING APART AT TIMES. THE VIBRATION/SHAKING OCCURS ALL TIMES THAT THE VEHICLE APPROACHES 70 MPH AND MANY TIMES AT SLOWER SPEEDS. ON-LINE RESEARCH HAS SHOWN A TOO-SHORT REAR ARM IN THE VEHICLE SUSPENSION CAUSING A NUMBER OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS IN SEVERAL 2007 VEHICLES. HONDA HAS SO FAR SHOWN NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF A PROBLEM IN THIS ARENA NOR OFFERED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *TR
2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID HAS DAMAGED TIRES. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE TIRES ARE DAMAGED DUE TO DEFECTIVE PART ON CAR. WOULD LIKE KNOW WHY HONDA WON'T REPLACE THE TIRES. *NJ THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A VIBRATION COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THEY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND A TIRE ROTATION, BECAUSE THERE WAS A DEFECTIVE PART IN THE REAR END CAUSING THE VIBRATION. THE DEALER RECOMMEND REPLACING THE REAR TIRES.*JB
2006, 2007, AND SOME 2008 HONDA CIVICS HAVE "OUT OF SPEC" UPPER CONTROL ARMS ON THE REAR SUSPENSION WHICH RESULTS IN EXCESS NEGATIVE CAMBER, IMPROPER WEAR OF REAR TIRES. *TR
THE REAR CONTROL ARMS ARE KNOWN TO BE DEFECTIVE IN HONDA CIVICS. I HAVE HAD MY CAR REPAIRED BUT DUE TO TIRE WEAR THIS COULD RESULT IN A SAFETY ISSUE IF PEOPLE DO NOT PUSH THEIR DEALERSHIPS TO MAKE THE REPAIR. AS OF YET AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CORP HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALLED EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS SUSPENSION PROBLEM. THEY HAVE ISSUED A TSB, 08-001, ON THIS PROBLEM. *TR
THERE IS EXCESSIVE WEAR OF REAR TIRES ON THE CIVIC. TIRES ARE BALD AFTER LESS THAN 5,000 MILES, WHILE THE FRONT LOOK BRAND NEW. HONDA SAYS NO PROBLEM, BUT THEY NEED TO ADDRESS REAR TIRE WEAR. HAVE HAD 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND STILL THE TIRES ARE BALD AFTER TOO FEW OF MILES. MAKES NO SENSE ON A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CAR. THIS CAR IS DANGEROUS. *TR
TIRE NOISE STARTED DEVELOP MONTHS AGO, AND GOT WORSE ON HONDA CIVIC 2007 WITH LESS THAN 8000 MILES. TODAY, HONDA S/B 08-001 WAS DONE, BUT TIRES ARE NOT REPLACED. ALL FOUR TIRES HAVE QUITE NOTICEABLE CUPPING, ESPECIALLY REAR INSIDE. SINCE I DRIVE CAREFULLY TO ACHIEVE 49MPG AVG I GOT ON THIS HYBRID ON SUBURBAN BLVDS, I BELIEVE HONDA NEEDS TO REPLACE TIRES AT THEIR COST AS WELL WITHOUT PRORATED SCHEDULE MENTIONED ON THE S/B. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 HONDA CIVIC. RECENTLY NOTICED A NOISE FROM THE UNDERCARRIAGE, WHICH SOUNDED LIKE WHAT I HAVE HEARD BEFORE AS A RESULT OF TIRE WEAR. BUT WITH JUST OVER 15,000 MILES, DIDN'T THINK THIS WAS LIKELY. CONTACTED THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE AN ASSESSMENT DONE. THE DEALER CONFIRMED ALL FOUR TIRES BAD, INSIDE TIRE WEAR AND CUPPING. SUGGESTED I REPLACE THE TIRES WITH A NEW SET OF KUMHO BRAND TIRES, REPLACE THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS AND DO A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT. TIRE TREADWEAR 6/32 AND 7/32. SINCE I HAD NOT ROTATED THE TIRES, I FIGURED THE FRONT TREADWEAR WAS PARTIALLY MY FAULT, BUT HAD CONCERNS ABOUT THE REAR TIRES BECAUSE I COULD NOT REMEMBER SUCH PROBLEMS IN PRIOR AUTOMOBILES I HAVE OWNED. WAS ALSO PUZZLED BY THE NEED TO REPLACE THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS IN A CAR WITH 15,772 MILES. WOULD HAVE HAD THE WORK DONE THOUGH, AS WE WERE HEADED ON VACATION, BUT ESTIMATED WORK TIME WAS 3 HOURS. MECHANIC SAID NO SAFETY PROBLEMS AND I DECIDED TO CONTINUE ON TO TENNESSEE ON VACATION. BESIDES, WANTED TIME TO THINK ABOUT THE REAR TIRES AND CONTROL ARMS. TONIGHT WAS RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM ON THE WWW. AND EASILY FOUND INDIVIDUAL STORIES FROM CIVIC OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS. ONE WEB SITE HAD INFORMATION ABOUT HONDA FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGING REAR SUSPENSION PROBLEMS AND CONTROL ARM REPLACEMENT TO SOLVE IT. IN SOME CASES THEY REIMBURSE FOR TIRE REPLACEMENTS. WHAT CONCERNS ME THOUGH IS THAT IF THERE IS A REAR SUSPENSION PROBLEM AND THE CONTROL ARMS SOLVE IT, HOW LONG WILL THAT FIX THE PROBLEM. ARE THEY USING THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT, OR A BEEFED UP CONTROL ARM. IF SOME IMPROVEMENT IN THE ARMS HASN'T BEEN DONE, THEN A NEW SET OF TIRES WILL ONLY START WEARING WITH THE FIRST MILES DRIVEN AND HONDA OWNERS WILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM IN 15 - 20, 000 MILES. *TR
MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC (CURRENTLY 42,000 MILES) HAS A LOUD NOISE AND VIBRATION WHEN DRIVING. THE SOUND HAS BECOME WORSE AS THE MORE MILES I DRIVE. WHEN THE REAR TIRES ARE RUBBED ACROSS, FLAT SPOTS ON THE TIRES CAN BE FELT. HONDA WROTE A REPAIR FORUM STATING THAT THE CAUSE OF THIS IS THE IMPROPER DESIGN OF THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS. THESE ARMS ARE TOO SHORT CAUSING THE CAMBER OF THE WHEELS TO BE INCORRECT. I HAVE CALLED HONDA CORPORATION AT LEAST 4 TIMES AND HAVE CONTACTED OURISMAN HONDA OF LAUREL (WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE) AT LEAST 5 TIMES. NEITHER ONE HAS BEEN OF ANY HELP. TOM ALEXANDER (SERVICE MANAGER) FROM OURISMAN HONDA OF LAUREL HAS NOT RETURNED MY PHONE CALLS. HE TOLD ME THAT SINCE MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY (PAST 36,000 MILES) THEN HE WOULD LOOK AT MY CASE AS GOODWILL (AS IN HE LOOKED AT MY SERVICE HISTORY LIKE OIL CHANGES AND SUCH WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND WILL BASE HIS DECISION ON REPLACEMENT AT NO COST ON THIS, RIDICULOUS). I WANT MY REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS REPLACED WITH NO COST SINCE THE PART WAS INCORRECTLY DESIGNED. *TR
