Every few months one of my low beam headlamps goes out, and I replace it to stay in compliance with local traffic laws. Within the last week, both low beam headlights went out, and both sockets show burn damage that is similar to the issue reported in NHTSA recall: 04V086000. I am concerned that even if I replace both the lights and the sockets, there may be something else going on that could cause a fire. I'd like NHTSA to look into this please. Thank you

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS AND DOME LIGHT FLICKERED. ADDITIONALLY, WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDISCLOSED SPEED, THE HEADLIGHTS BECAME INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE POWER WINDOW SWITCH WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AUTOSPORT HONDA (1201 US-22, BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP, NJ 08807) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE IN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.*DT CONSUMER STATED SHE ALSO HAD BRAKE ISSUES AS THEY SEIZED UP AND PIECES OF THE BOTTOM WAS RUSTED.*JB

HEADLIGHTS, BRAKE LIGHTS, TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS CONTINUE TO BURN OUT. ON A MONTHLY BASIS WE ARE PAYING TO HAVE THEM REPLACED. THEN WE GET STOPPED FOR ONE BEING OUT, TAKE IT TO OUR MECHANIC AND THEY ARE WORKING. NOTHING SHORT OF FRUSTRATING. THESE OCCUR WHEN DRIVING AND WHEN STOPPED. ALL DRIVING SITUATIONS. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR THE 20 OR SO MONTHS AND APPEARS TO BE COMING MORE FREQUENTLY.

PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM DOES NOT FUNCTION... HAVE REPLACED BULB EVERY FEW MONTHS FOR THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS, BUT THIS TIME (SINCE FEB. 2019) THERE IS NO RECOVERY. I HAVE REPLACED THE BULB, SOCKET AND CONNECTOR, CHECKED FUSES...HI BEAM AND PARKING/SIGNAL BULBS ALL FULLY FUNCTIONAL, BUT NO LOW BEAM ON PASSENGER SIDE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS AND WELL KNOWN DEFECT THAT A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR IN THE 2005 MODELS. HONDA, IN CERTAIN MODEL YEARS, OF WHICH 2006 IS ONE, HAS SO FAR REFUSED TO OFFER REMEDY . THERE ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH INSTANCES OF THIS UNIQUE HAZARD TO JUSTIFY A RECALL, AND ONE IS LONG OVERDUE.

THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS HAVE STOPPED WORKING OVER SIX (6) TIMES IN TWO PLUS (2+) YEARS (CAR PURCHASED USED, 11/2015). SPENT A COUPLE HUNDRED DOLLARS ON REPLACEMENT BULBS; REPLACED THE HOUSING UNIT TO SEE IF THAT CORRECTED THE ISSUE AND IT WORKED FOR A FEW MONTHS; FINALLY IN APRIL 2018 WENT TO HALL HONDA (VIRGINIA BEACH, VA) TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. THEY JUST SAID THE BULB WAS BAD AND REPLACED IT. I DRIVE WITH LIGHTS ON DURING THE DAY AND YESTERDAY (7/20/2018) I NOTICED THAT MY LIGHTS WEREN'T REFLECTING ON THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME WHILE DRIVING. ONCE PARKED, I CHECKED AND LOW BEAMS NOT OPERATIONAL, BUT HIGH BEAMS WORK. THIS MORNING I CALLED HALL HONDA AND HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TO GO IN TODAY (7/21/2018) AT 1:45 PM. I HAVE PRINTED OUT INFO FROM ONLINE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE. THERE WAS A RECALL, BUT IT ONLY WENT TO THE CAR YEAR 2005. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE SINCE HEADLIGHTS ARE NEEDED WHEN DRIVING IN RAIN (IT IS THE LAW HERE IN VA) OR WHEN IT IS DUSK/DARK. LISTING YESTERDAY AS THE DATE THIS HAPPENED, ALTHOUGH IT HAPPENED FIRST TO ME FEBRUARY 2016. I ALSO CHECKED OFF THE ELECTRICAL AND LIGHTING BOXES, SINCE I AM NOT QUALIFIED TO DETERMINE WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF THIS SAFETY ISSUE.

HEADLIGHT BULBS CONTINUE TO BLOW. THEN CAN BLOW AFTER A COUPLE OF MONTHS OR A YEAR AFTER INSTALLATION. BUT THEY BLOW OFTEN ENOUGH THAT WHEN THEY GO, I IMMEDIATELY GO TO THE STORE TO BUY REPLACEMENTS. JUST THIS EVENING, I HAD A THE RIGHT SIDE GO WHEN I REPLACE THE LEFT SIDE JUST YESTERDAY. I FEAR THAT BOTH MAY GO AT THE SAME TIME WHEN MY WIFE OR I ARE BEHIND THE WHEEL WITH OUR INFANT IN THE BACKSEAT. THE BULBS HAVE BLOWN WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD, AS WELL AS WHEN PARKED. SINCE WE ACQUIRED THIS VEHICLE IN 2009, I HAVE REPLACED OVER A DOZEN BULBS. I HAVE ONLY RECENTLY STARTED SAVING RECEIPTS TO BETTER TRACK THIS ISSUE.

WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND IS WHY HONDA AMERICA IS NOT RESPONDING, WHAT IS THE NHSTA DOING TO APPLY PRESSURE TO ISSUE A SERVICE BULLETIN?

LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS FAIL EVERY FEW MONTHS, SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING, NECESSITATING REPLACEMENT. IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. MANY PEOPLE WITH THE 2006 CR-V HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS ISSUE TO HONDA, THE NHTSA AND ALL OVER THE INTERNET. WHY HASN'T HONDA ISSUED A RECALL? HONDA DID HAVE A RECALL FOR THE 2002-2004 CR-V FOR THE SAME ISSUE, BUT NOT FOR THE LATER YEARS, SAYING THAT THE HEADLIGHT SYSTEM WAS DIFFERENT IN NEWER MODELS. MAYBE, BUT CLEARLY THE DEFECT/HAZARD IS IN THE 2006 MODEL AS WELL. I HAVE REPORTED THIS ISSUE TO HONDA BEFORE AND DID SO AGAIN TODAY, AND IT IS AMERICAN HONDA CASE # N012014-12-2301127. I INSISTED THAT THEY TAKE A HARD LOOK AT COMPLAINTS ABOUT LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT FAILURE IN THE 2006 CR-V THAT HAVE BEEN FILED WITH HONDA AND THE NHTSA AND ISSUE A RECALL, AS THEY DID FOR THE OLDER MODELS. *TR

2006 HONDA CRV SINCE APRIL 2013 I HAVE GONE THROUGH 17 HEADLIGHT BULBS. THAT IS THE MOST I HAVE EVER HAD TO PUT IN ANY OF MY CARS. IF YOU TYPE IN TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEMS WITH 2006 HEADLIGHTS YOU WILL SEE THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHER PEOPLE THAT ARE HAVING THIS VERY SAME ISSUE. I WOULD LIKE TO THINK THAT YOU AS A COMPANY WOULD WANT TO GET THIS PROBLEM FIXED OR AT LEAST LOOK AT GETTING A FIX. WHEN I TALKED WITH MY AREA DEALER HE DIDN'T SEEM TO THINK THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD PROFESSIONAL PEOPLE INSTALL THEM THAT KNOW BETTER THAN TO TOUCH THE BULB AND THEY HAVE GOTTEN TO THE POINT THAT THEY WON'T INSTALL THEM FOR ME ANYMORE. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN GOING THROUGH HEADLIGHTS LIKE CRAZY FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS. APPROX. EVERY TWO MONTHS EITHER THE RIGHT OR LEFT SIDE GOES WITHOUT WARNING. MOST RECENTLY I DECIDED TO INSTALL HIGHER END BULBS THINKING THAT MAYBE THE LITTLE 8.00 DOLLAR ONES WERE THE PROBLEM. WRONG! I PUT A SET OF 50.00 BULBS IN EACH SIDE AT THE SAME TIME AND LESS THAN A MONTH LATER THE DRIVERS SIDE WENT OUT! I DRIVE ON VERY DARK RURAL ROADS AT NIGHT COMING HOME FROM WORK AND IF BOTH OF THESE LIGHTS FAIL AT THE SAME TIME I COULD BE SERIOUSLY HURT. *TR

I PURCHASED MY 2006 CRV IN 2010. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT MULTIPLE TIMES. I DO NOT HAVE EXACT DATES, NOT REALIZING THERE WAS A PROBLEM UNTIL JULY 2014 WHEN I HAD MY MECHANIC DO A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND FOUND THERE TO BE A SHORT IN THE WIRING IN THE STEERING COLUMN. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS, I FOUND THAT ALMOST ONE MILLION CRV'S HAVE BEEN RECALLED SINCE 2002 FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. I SPOKE TO HONDA'S CUSTOMER SERVICE/RESOLUTION CENTER AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON MY VEHICLE SPECIFICALLY ALTHOUGH THE PROBLEM IS THE EXACT SAME ONE ALL OF THE RECALLED CRV'S HAVE. HONDA WOULD NOT ASSIST ME FURTHER AND TOLD ME THAT I NEED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM OUT OF POCKET. I HAVE ALREADY HAD BOTH HEADLIGHTS GO OUT SIMULTANEOUSLY WHILE DRIVING TO WORK IN THE DARK ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAPPENED ON TWO OCCASIONS, ALTHOUGH IT IS COMMONLY THE DRIVERS SIDE BULB THAT BURNS OUT SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR. I HAVE BEEN PULLED OVER NOT KNOWING MY HEADLIGHT WAS OUT. THIS CONTINUES TO BE A PROBLEM AND I AM TOLD THE COST OF THE REPAIR WILL BE OVER $300. BASED ON THE NUMBER OF CRV'S WITH THE SAME DEFECT, I FEEL THAT HONDA SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS REPAIR AND A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED FOR MY VEHICLE BEFORE I CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AS A RESULT OF LOSING MY HEADLIGHTS WHILE DRIVING IN THE DARK AGAIN. THE LOWBEAM HEADLIGHTS ON OUR 2006 HONDA CRV HAVE FAILED/BURNED OUT NUMEROUS TIMES. SEVERAL TIMES, BOTH LOWBEAMS (RIGHT AND LEFT) HAVE FAILED WHILE WE WERE DRIVING, WHICH IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. SINCE APPROXIMATELY 2008, THE LIGHTS HAVE BURNED OUT SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR, EVERY YEAR. WE HAVE CONTACTED THE HONDA DEALERSHIP AS WELL AS THE AMERICAN HONDA CORPORATE OFFICE AND HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE RUNAROUND. THEY REFUSE TO ISSUE A RECALL OR EVEN INSPECT THE LIGHTS. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD TO HAVE A "DIAGNOSTIC" CONDUCTED BY THE DEALERSHIP FOR $120 OUT OF OUR POCKET. HONDA SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE SINCE THIS IS CLEARLY AN ISSUE RELATED TO THEIR FAULTY PRODUCT. THEY ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE FOR THE 2003 AND 2004 CRV MODELS. THE SAME ISSUE IS OCCURRING WITH THE 2006 MODEL. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ALL OVER THE INTERNET, YET HONDA REFUSES TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AND A POTENTIAL CLASS ACTION. I HAD A BRAKE LIGHT GO OUT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE 2006 CR-V. I REPLACED THE LIGHT BULB, BUT WHEN YOU PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL, IF THE HEADLIGHTS ARE ON, THE BREAK LIGHT WILL NOT WORK. I TALKED WITH NUMEROUS PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET AND AT THE AUTO PARTS STORE WHO HAVE HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SAME MODEL OF VEHICLE AS MINE (CR-V). MY HONDA MASTER MECHANIC BELIEVES THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS ELECTRICAL PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY OF THESE THAT HE HAS SEEN AND THAT HAVE BEEN SEEN BY DEALERSHIPS. IS THERE A REASON WHY HONDA HAS NOT RECALLED THE 2006 HONDA CR-V FOR THIS ELECTRICAL PROBLEM? I BOUGHT 6 DIFFERENT LIGHTS, THINKING THAT MAYBE I JUST BOUGHT A BAD LIGHT OR LIGHTS. MY WIFE AND I HAVE OWNED OUR HONDA CRV SINCE EARLY 2006. IT HAS HAD NUMEROUS ELECTRICAL ISSUES, SPECIFICALLY ISSUES WITH THE HEADLIGHTS AND INTERIOR LIGHTS. WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHT BULBS AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR SINCE PURCHASING THE CRV. IT IS CLEARLY A MAJOR DEFECT WITH THE HONDA CRV ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET BY OTHERS WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. HONDA IS RESPONSIBLE AND NEEDS TO RECALL THE CRV AND FIX THE ISSUE. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER HONDA AGAIN. *TR

WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SUFFERED A RIGHT HAND LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT FAILURE. SINCE THIS FIRST FAILURE THE BULB OF THIS HEADLIGHT HAS HAD TO BE REPLACED APPROXIMATELY 10 TIMES, AND CONTINUOUSLY BURNS OUT AGAIN. THE FUSES REMAIN GOOD, THE RELAYS REMAIN GOOD. IT APPEARS THERE IS A WIRING HARNESS PROBLEM AFFECTING THIS YEAR MODEL AS A GOOGLE SEARCH REVEALS HUNDREDS OF OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE EXPERIENCING A SAME OR SIMILAR ISSUE. MOST REFERENCE A HEAT DAMAGED WIRING CONNECTOR UNDERNEATH THE STEERING COLUMN. *TR

MY LOW-BEAM HEADLIGHTS HAVE FAILED AT LEAST 4 TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR. AT ONE POINT BOTH HEADLIGHTS WERE OUT WHEN I WENT TO START THE CAR IN THE EVENING. I'VE TAKEN THE CAR TO A LOCAL VENDOR (NOT THE DEALER). INITIALLY, THEY DID SOME ELECTRICAL WORK, STATING THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE SYSTEM, BUT HAVE SINCE REPLACED THE BULBS 4 TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR. HONDA INFORMS ME THAT MY VIN IS NOT PART OF THEIR HEADLIGHT RECALL. *TR
