The contact owns a 2006 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH at night, the driver's side low beam headlight had failed to operate as needed. The contact stated that the high-beam headlights operated as needed; however, the driver's side low-beam headlight was inoperable. The contact stated that no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local mechanic who replaced the driver's side headlight bulb. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that the failure had become a recurring failure and had recently occurred to the passenger’s side low beam headlight. The contact researched online and became aware of similar failures with other vehicles. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

Low-beam headlight bulb repeatedly fails in 2006 Honda CR-V, more often on the driver’s side, requiring replacement two to three times per year. This has occurred since the car was purchased in 2011 over ten years ago. Recall is needed for this common problem.
PROBLEM: HEADLIGHT BULB BLOWOUT AT ANY TIME; DRIVING OR STATIONARY. THE HEADLIGHTS ON THIS VEHICLE ACCORDING TO HONDA ARE DESIGNED TO RUN OFF THE BATTERY, NOT THE ALTERNATOR. IF THE BATTERY VOLTAGE DROPS SIGNIFICANTLY, THE CAR IS DESIGNED TO PUSH THE BATTERY VOLTAGE BACK UP. THIS CAUSES VOLTAGE SPIKES THAT BLOW OUT THE HEADLIGHT BULBS. THIS IS DESCRIBED ONLINE AT WWW.CARCOMPLAINTS.COM. FOR EXAMPLE: CR-V176,000 MILES PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM DOES NOT FUNCTION... HAVE REPLACED BULB EVERY FEW MONTHS FOR THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS, BUT THIS TIME (SINCE FEB. 2019) THERE IS NO RECOVERY. I HAVE REPLACED THE BULB, SOCKET AND CONNECTOR, CHECKED FUSES...HI BEAM AND PARKING/SIGNAL BULBS ALL FULLY FUNCTIONAL, BUT NO LOW BEAM ON PASSENGER SIDE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS AND WELL KNOWN DEFECT THAT A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR IN THE 2005 MODELS. HONDA, IN CERTAIN MODEL YEARS, OF WHICH 2006 IS ONE, HAS SO FAR REFUSED TO OFFER REMEDY. THERE ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH INSTANCES OF THIS UNIQUE HAZARD TO JUSTIFY A RECALL, AND ONE IS LONG OVERDUE.- STOCKTON, CA, USA TAKATA RECALL LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT STOPS WORKING HEADLIGHT BULBS CONTINUE TO BLOW. THEN CAN BLOW AFTER A COUPLE OF MONTHS- MERCED, CA, USA CR-V 150,000 MILES HEADLIGHT BULBS CONTINUE TO BLOW. THEN CAN BLOW AFTER A COUPLE OF MONTHS OR A YEAR AFTER INSTALLATION. BUT THEY BLOW OFTEN ENOUGH THAT WHEN THEY GO, I IMMEDIATELY GO TO THE STORE TO BUY REPLACEMENTS. JUST THIS EVENING, I HAD A THE RIGHT SIDE GO WHEN I REPLACE THE LEFT SIDE JUST YESTERDAY. I FEAR THAT BOTH MAY GO AT THE SAME TIME WHEN MY WIFE OR I ARE BEHIND THE WHEEL WITH OUR INFANT IN THE BACKSEAT. THE BULBS HAVE BLOWN WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD, AS WELL AS WHEN PARKED. SINCE WE ACQUIRED THIS VEHICLE IN 2009, I HAVE REPLACED OVER A DOZEN BULBS. I HAVE ONLY RECENTLY STARTED SAVING RECEIPTS TO BETTER TRACK THIS ISSUE.- NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI, USA
HEADLIGHTS GO OUT EVERY 2-3 MONTHS SO CONSTANTLY CHANGING BULBS. VERY INCONVENIENT AND DANGEROUS.
VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED USED IN MAY 2018. THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT HAS BURNED OUT EVERY 4-7 WEEKS SINCE. NO SOLUTIONS FROM TWO DIFFERENT HONDA MECHANICS. HAVE READ MANY SIMILAR ACCOUNTS. HAVE TRIED H1 BULBS FROM DIFFERENT MANUFACTURERS, BATTERY WAS CHECKED FOR POWER SURGES, NO MOISTURE, NO REPORTED ACCIDENTS, RUBBER BOOTS IN PLACE, DIDN'T TOUCH THE BULBS, REPLACED THE 'SOCKET' WITH OEM PART, ETC. NO ONE HAS A SOLUTION. ABOUT 130,000 MILES WHEN FIRST TOOK PLACE DURING MY TIME SO FAR. SEEMS TO GO OUT WHEN DRIVING. BULB HAS SLIGHT BURN MARK ON IT AFTER GOING OUT.

THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT THE DAY I BOUGHT MY VEHICE AND HAVE READ THAT THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR PREVIOUS YEARS BUT NOT THIS ONE. MANY VEHICLE OWNERS COMPLAIN OF REPLACING THEIR BULBS EVERY MONTH OR TWO AND SOME HAVE SAID THAT BOTH HAVE GONE OUT ON THEM DURING A LONG ROAD TRIP. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE! PLEASE ADDRESS THIS! I REALLY DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING FAR DISTANCES AND AT NIGHT.
WE STOPPED AT A GAS STATION ON A LONG TRIP AND WHEN WE GOT BACK IN CAR HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT AND EVEN WITH NEW BULBS ARE VERY DIM. HAVE TO DRIVE WITH HIGH BEAMS TO SEE TO DRIVE. VERY UNSAFE.
I HAVE A 2006 HONDA CRV SE THAT THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS KEEP GOING OUT ON. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO BE FIXED, AND THEY SAID IT WAS A EXPOSED WIRE GOING TO THE FUSE BOX. I CONTINUE TO HAVE THE PROBLEM THOUGH. MY DRIVERS SIDE WENT OUT A MONTH AGO AGAIN, AND THEN CAME BACK ON FOR A WEEK. THEN THE DRIVERS SIDE LIGHTS WENT OUT AGAIN. I WENT TO LEAVE WORK LAST NIGH, AND NOW BOTH LOW BEAMS ARE NOT WORKING. I HAVE CONTACTED THE RECALL DEPARTMENT, AND THEY TELL ME I HAVE NO OPEN RECALLS ON MY CAR. I PAID $400 LESS THAN 8 MONTHS AGO TO FIX THIS, AND NOW I HAVE A WORSE PROBLEM. THE DEALER SAYS I'M PAST MY WARRANTY ON THE REPAIR, SO I WILL HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT TO SEE WHAT THE ISSUE IS. I AM ALSO HAVING AN ISSUE WITH ALL LIGHTS INSIDE AND OUT STROBING AND PULSING. I HAVE READ MANY PEOPLE HAVING THIS. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN, AND MY NEXT STEP IS TO CALL THE NHTSA TO REPORT THE PROBLEM. I AM URGING ANYONE HAVING ISSUES TO CALL THE HONDA RECALL LINE TO REPORT THE PROBLEM. THEY WILL NOT DO A RECALL TO FIX THE PROBLEM UNTIL THEY HAVE ENOUGH COMPLAINTS. THIS WAS MY FIRST HONDA AS I AM A TOYOTA GIRL, BUT I DECIDED TO GIVE THEM A SHOT. I DON'T THINK I WILL BE LOOKING AT HONDA'S NEXT YEAR WHEN I GO TO DO MY TRADE IN. THE DRIVERS SIDE LOW BEAM BULB FAILS AFTER LESS THAN 2 MONTHS OF REPLACEMENT RECURRING ISSUE. I HAVE INSTALLED 2 DIFFERENT MANUFACTURES BULBS PLUS ONE OEM BULB WITH SAME FAILURE OCCURRING IN 3 MONTHS OR LESS AND LESS THAN 2K MILES. BULB HAS FAILED BOTH IN MOTION AND STATIONARY MODE.

OVER THE LAST 12-16 MONTHS, THE LOW-BEAM BULB FOR THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE FAILED APPROXIMATELY EVERY 1-2 MONTHS. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO RESEARCH THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET, IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ACROSS MULTIPLE YEARS OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. IN FACT, IT APPEARS THAT THEY HAD ISSUED RECALLS ON AN EARLIER MODEL YEAR OF THIS VEHICLE BUT HAVE RESISTED RECALLING ADDITIONAL MODEL YEARS. I HAVE NOT YET DETERMINED THE CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM ON MY VEHICLE. THE PASSENGER LOW-BEAM BULB SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN EFFECTED MORE THAN THE DRIVER SIDE. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO TRACK THE TIMING OF THE BULB FAILURES, AND I BELIEVE THAT IT MAY BE RELATED TO LONG DISTANCE TRIPS OF OVER 100 MILES. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE AN AUTOMOTIVE ELECTRICAL COMPANY LOOK AT IT AND TRY TO TRACE THE FAULT.

I AM A ONE TIME OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS CONSTANTLY BURNING OUT BOTH SIDES, DOES NOT MATTER WHICH BRAND IS USED. THE LIGHTS BURN OUT ANYTIME 1-3 MONTHS OF USE AFTER CHANGE OUT. THIS IS EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS! AND VERY EXPENSIVE! LIVING IN ALASKA WE DEPEND ON OUR HEADLIGHTS MORE THAN NORMAL TO AVOID SEVER ACCIDENTS IN LOW LIGHT CONDITIONS, IE VEHICLES, ICE /SNOW/RAIN, HUMANS, MOOSE, CARIBOU ETC. HONDA SHOULD HAVE RECALLED AND REPAIRED THIS CONDITION MANY YEARS AGO! THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY CONDITION! THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR THE LAST 9 YEARS 2007 TO 2016, I AVERAGE 8-10 BULBS A YEAR @ $6-$15 A BULB AND CHANGING THEM OUT IN SUB-0 TEMPS IS NO FUN! THE VEHICLE HAS NO SET PATTERN AS TO WHEN THIS HAPPENS PARKED OR DRIVING AND HIGH BEAM USE IS A MUST AT TIMES WITH OUT GETTING PULLED OVER. THE VEHICLE STARTED AT 96,000 MILES AND NOW HAS 130,000 MILES

I QUESTIONED THE LIKELIHOOD OF SUCH AN OCCURRENCE, BUT WAS NOT GIVEN ANY RESPONSE THAT INDICATED A "KNOWN ISSUE" WITH THE HEADLIGHTS/WIRING. JUST A FEW HOURS LATER, THE NEW LOW-BEAM BULB I BOUGHT THUR. 11 JUNE, WENT OUT! NEVER GOT HIGHBEAM REPLACED BECAUSE PARTS DEPT. WAS OUT OF THEM. I WENT ONLINE & FOUND THE FOLLOWING SERIOUS PROBLEMS REPORTED ON LINK BELOW BY MANY CRV OWNERS -- LOTS OF OTHER 2006 CRVS EXPERIENCED RECURRING FAILURE! LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS CONSTANTLY NEED TO BE REPLACED. GOING THROUGH MY 3RD REPLACEMENT IN ABOUT A YEAR. USUALLY ONE GOES OUT AND THEN SHORTLY AFTER, THE OTHER ONE GOES OUT. I HAD THEM BOTH REPLACED ABOUT A MONTH AND HALF AGO. I WAS LEAVING WORK AND TURNED ON THE HEADLIGHTS AND WITHIN A SECOND, THEY BOTH WENT OUT. IT WAS DARK SO I HAD TO DRIVE HOME WITH MY HIGH BEAMS ON.
SENSE THE FALL/WINTER OF 2010 I HAVE CHANGE THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ON MY VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY EIGHT TIMES. LATELY THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE BEEN GOING OUT BETWEEN THREE MONTHS AND THE SHORTEST TIME BEING 15 MINUTES. *TR

ALL PRECAUTIONS WERE TAKEN, INCLUDING NOT TOUCHING THE BASE WITH BARE SKIN, OR GLASS - WITH ANYTHING. THE LAST TIME - 34 DAYS PRIOR TO LAST FAILURE - OWNER APPLIED TERMINAL GREASE TO BULB TERMINALS, EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS PLENTY ALREADY IN PLACE. RESEARCHING THE INTERNET, OWNER NOTED STORIES OF CORROSION OR HEAT DAMAGE ON TERMINALS OF HEADLIGHT SWITCHES OF CERTAIN HONDA MODELS. OWNER DISASSEMBLED HIS STEERING COLUMN, AND FOUND NO EVIDENCE. OWNER ALSO NOTICED EARLY ON (2013) WHAT APPEARED TO BE FLICKERING OR PULSING OF HEADLIGHTS AT NIGHT. OWNER INSTALLED PERMANENT DIGITAL VOLTMETER TO BATTERY, AND NOTICED NO FLUCTUATIONS IN VOLTAGE, WITH A STEADY VOLTAGE OF 14.15V UNDER NORMAL NIGHTTIME CONDITIONS. THE LAST PAIR OF BULBS TO BURN OUT WERE EXAMINED. OWNER NOTED THAT THE COILED PORTION OF THE TUNGSTEN ELEMENT WAS COMPLETELY INTACT. THE WIRE JUST BEFORE OR JUST AFTER THE COILED PORTION HAD BEEN INTERRUPTED, AND A SMALL BALL OF MOLTEN TUNGSTEN WAS AT THE END OF THE SEVERED WIRE OPPOSITE THE COIL.
