Chronological view of owner reports
The vehicle has been diagnosed with transmission problem even though it has only 39835 miles and I'm the original owner. Yes, it could be available for inspection. So far, my issue seems to not be a risk yet, only that the problem is there. It would be a risk if problem gets worse. One can read about other CR-V owners issues on various sites. There is a rather lengthy list. My particular issue is a loud whining when I am trying to accelerate to 40 mph, then whining continues along with road noise and vibration. It was confirmed at an independent service center. It has not been inspected by manufacturer, police or insurance. There are no warning lamps or messages yet. It is a recurring issue every time I drive the vehicle
My car began stalling in the middle of driving. Multiple warning lights came on the dash and have continued to stay on. It struggles to go up hills as well as going over approximately 40MPH. It seems to be unable to shift gears
CVT Transmission while driving 55 or over starts changing to neutral then drive then reverse which jerks the heck out of you a continues. It also vibrates in park. Driving under 45mph it doesn’t happen. We were on the interstate and had to pull over. This is scary since I’m a single woman on the road. I have read that thousands of other owners of certain years with the CVT transmission have had the same problems. This should be a recall!!!
- While driving, sudden smoke from the engine and burned rubber smell occurred. - Upon pulling over, the drive belt was atop the engine burned cut. - Diagnosis by an authorized Honda dealer revealed the water pump seized thereby snapping the drive belt. Mileage on vehicle 33,849. Summary: - The water pump seized suddenly with no warning. As a result, the drive belt/serpentine belt melted and snapped while driving. This occurred for no known or commonly seen reason at such low mileage. with absolutely no warning lamps, messages or symptoms prior to failure.
This safety issue was not revealed to me at purchase. Vehicle is a push button start and stop and does not have an electronic parking break. Vehicle can be turned off while in Drive, however the gear train does not remain engaged. INCIDENT: The car was moved by my husband who does not drive the car and is accustom to driving a keyed vehicle with ignition interlock. He is also hard of hearing and did not hear quite beeping. When he moved the vehicle driving the car to the inclined driveway, he turned car off using the push button without putting the car in PARK. The car remained motionless until he opened the door and got out. The car began to roll backwards where the door knocked him down and ran over his foot. My husband sustained minor injury. However the car continued to roll about 50 feet before colliding into a stand of trees before it was stopped. The car sustained significant rear end damage. This is a SAFETY issue. I called American Honda to report this issue. They claimed they knew nothing of the above stated design problem and suggested I take the vehicle into the dealership for a diagnostic. I did and Serra Honda of Brighton ran a diagnostic and reported :That the car can be turned off while in drive and that the car does not have any system that will prevent the car from moving if the car is not in Park. The car is operating as designed and will roll if not in park. My complaint #at American Honda is case #[XXX]. There are many reports on the internet concerning Honda CRV, Civic and Accord, for certain models and years that have this problem. There should be a recall to correct this obvious safety in design issue. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Dies when in reverse has happened multiple times at startup
I put my car in reverse and it stalled. It began rolling backwards. The battery light came on. I live near two churches and people were leaving church. My vehicle rolled backward and nearly hit the car behind me. I'm so grateful that none of the people leaving church were hit- the area is so busy and everyone has to walk to their cars parallel parked on the side of the road. I started rolling backwards rapidly and neither they nor I would have had any warning that was about to happen. That's just a bit of luck. I was surprised to find this is a well known issue described in Honda Service Bulletin 18-072 and reported frequently to the NHTSA. It's just chance I didn't hit a car or person since the stall occurred on an incline and in a busy area. I'm just so shocked the car hasn't been recalled to fix this dangerous problem.
ENGINE STALL AFTER A FEW SECONDS BACKING UP. POSSIBLE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM FROM WHAT I HAVE READ. 22,000 MILE VEHICLE, PURCHASED NEW 3-16-2016 STARTS FINE, THE AFTER I BACK A FEW SECONDS LATER, MOTOR ABRUPTLY STALLS. VERY INTERMITTENT, HAPPENS ONLY UPON STARTING IN AM, ONCE EVERY FEW WEEKS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HONDA CR-V. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY. THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN NEUTRAL AND THEN IN PARK. ALSO, THE BATTERY AND CHECK ENGINE INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AND TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN UNKNOWN HONDA DEALER IN SAN LEANDRO, CALIFORNIA WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THERE WAS NO FAILURE WITH THE VEHICLE. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO DRIVER'S ERROR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT PROVIDED.
THE CAR VIBRATES LIKE CRAZY WHEN I COME TO A STOP WHILE THE CAR IS IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. THE VIBRATION IS COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND IT GOES IN AND OUT CONSTANTLY. FOR EXAMPLE STANDING ON RED LIGHT AND OR STOP SIGNS. I REACHED OUT TO HONDA AND THEY HAVE INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT. IN 2015/2016 HONDA CRV THEY PUT THE NEW ENGINE AND NEW CVT TRANSMISSION WHICH IS GARBAGE AND IS MAKING THESE VIBRATIONS. PLEASE HELP AS HONDA IS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THANKS
I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH A LAG IN THE TAKE OFF IN MY VEHICLE CAUSED BY AN ISSUE WITH THE HONDA CVT OR CONSTANT VELOCITY TRANSMISSION. IT OCCURS AT THE MOST INCONVENIENT TIMES AND IS NOT PREDICTABLE. THE LAG OR PAUSE HAPPENS WHEN MERGING AND WHEN TRYING TO AVOID BEING HIT. THE SITUATION I AM TOLD BY HONDA SERVICE CENTER IS CAUSED BY AN OIL PRESSURE ISSUE TO THE CVT TRANSMISSION. HONDA IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND HAS NOT FIXED IT. I HAS BEEN TO D PATRICK HONDA ON 04/17/2019 IN EVANSVILLE INDIANA.THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION BECAUSE YOU DONT KNOW IF THE VEHICLE WILL ACCELERATE OR NOT.
2016 HONDA CRV HESITATES WHEN GOING FROM STOP BELIEVE TO BE THE CVT
OVER THE PAST YEAR OR SO, AFTER I BACK MY CAR OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY (SLIGHT INCLINE) INTO THE STREET, I PLACE MY CAR'S GEAR IN DRIVE. ON TWO OCCASIONS, THE CAR HESITATED GOING FORWARD REGARDLESS OF THE AMOUNT OF ACCELERATION TO THE ENGINE; IN OTHER WORDS, THE CAR BASICALLY SAT IN THE STREET REQUIRING ME TO NURSE IT FORWARD UNTIL THE DRIVE GEAR FULLY ENGAGED. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND LEFT IT WITH THEM FOR A WEEK. THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THAT THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND, THEREFORE, THEY CAN'T FIX IT. MY FRUSTRATION IS THAT BOTH HONDA AND THE DEALERSHIP LEAVE ME WITH THE BELIEF THAT I AM THE ONLY OWNER OF A HONDA EXPERIENCING THE STATED PROBLEM; IT IS ESPECIALLY OF CONCERN TO ME SHOULD THE STATED PROBLEM OCCUR AFTER BACKING OUT INTO A BUSY STREET/INTERSECTION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HONDA CR-V. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATLEY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO HESITATE AND LOSE POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (NORTH SHORE HONDA LOCATED IN GLEN HEAD, NY), BUT THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. SEVERAL WEEKS LATER, WHILE DRIVING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, THE TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY FAILED AND WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,797.
BAD VIBRATION WHILE THE CAR IS STOPPED IN GEAR SHAKES THE OCCUPANTS. THIS VIBRATION HAPPENS WHEN THE ENGINE RPM FALLS TO 500 TO 550 ON THE TACHOMETER. HONDA REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING TO FIX THE ISSUE BASED ON A FEAR OF THE EPA AND FUEL ECONOMY RATINGS FOR THE VEHICLE. HONDA CALLS THIS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE BUT OUR FAMILY CURRENTLY OWNS 5 HONDA VEHICLES AND THIS IS THE ONLY ON TO EXHIBIT THIS ABNORMAL VIBRATION CHARACTERISTIC. THE VIBRATION WAS NOT AS PRONOUNCED UNTIL THE CVT SOFTWARE UPDATE (RECALL) WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. HONDA HAS TRIED SEVERAL THINGS TO REMEDY THIS VIBRATION BUT HAS BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A BUZZING NOISE WAS HEARD WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED SEVERELY. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT FOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 136,000.
I AM HEARING A VIBRATION WHEN ACCELERATING AND DECELERATING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE HEATSHIELD WAS KINKED WRONG AND REPLACED REAR BODY HEAT SHIELDS. STILL HEARING AND FEELING VIBRATION!
VEHICLE WAS STOPPED ON A SLOPED DRIVEWAY, MOTOR RUNNING, IN PARK. DRIVER WAS STANDING OUTSIDE THE CAR WITH DRIVER DOOR OPEN ATTEMPTING TO ADJUST DRIVER SEAT POSITION. PASSENGER REACHED OVER AND PUSHED START/STOP BUTTON (DID NOT CONTACT THE SHIFT LEVER). VEHICLE STARTED ROLLING BACKWARD,ACROSS STREET INTO NEIGHBOR'S DRIVEWAY AND THEN CAME TO REST IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. DRIVER DROPPED AND ROLLED AND SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES(SCRAPES AND BRUISING) NO POLICE REPORT FILED.
2016 HONDA CR-V VIBRATION ISSUE - MORE THAN TWO MONTHS AGO, I STARTED TO NOTICE A SLIGHT VIBRATION UNDER MY DRIVER'S SEAT WHEN AT IDLE, E.G. SITTING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, I RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM AHMC REGARDING A SOFTWARE UPDATE THAT NEEDED TO BE DONE ASAP ON MY VEHICLE. THE NOTICE MENTIONED THAT, "THE SOFTWARE IN THE PCM CAUSES A LOW PRESSURE PROBLEM IN THE CVT. THIS MAY ALLOW THE BELT IN THE CVT TO SLIP. IF THE BELT SLIPS, YOU MAY SEE A SURGE IN RPM WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. IF THE BELT SLIPS THE TRANSMISSION WILL BE DAMAGED AND DTC P1890 (THE CVT SPEED CONTROL SYSTEM) WILL SET." THE SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS COMPLETED ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND SINCE THEN, I HAVE EXPERIENCED A MORE PRONOUNCED VIBRATION UNDER MY DRIVER'S SEAT AND EVEN INTO THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THE INTENSITY OF THE VIBRATION VARIES, BUT IT HAS NOT GONE AWAY. NOW THAT I HAVE HIT THE 5K MILE MARK AND HAD MY FIRST SERVICE DONE, I AM AFRAID THAT THE OLDER THE TRANSMISSION GETS, THE WORSE THIS PROBLEM MIGHT BECOME. THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME THAT THE SOFTWARE UPDATE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE VIBRATION ISSUE, BUT I AM NOT CONVINCED. BEFORE BUYING THIS VEHICLE, MY RESEARCH INDICATED THAT MANY CUSTOMERS WITH THE 2015 MODEL STARTED TO REPORT THE VIBRATION ISSUE RIGHT AROUND THIS TIME (5K MILES + OR AROUND THE FIRST SCHEDULED SERVICE) AND FOR MOST, THE PROBLEM BECAME WORSE. I AM CONVINCED THAT THESE ISSUES ARE RELATED TO THE NEW CVT TRANSMISSION. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN LOYAL TO THE HONDA BRAND AND I REALLY LIKE THIS VEHICLE, BUT I AM STARTING TO REGRET MY PURCHASE!!! :-( *TR
