i have a 2023 HRV AWD. We test drove it and bought it with the lane assist on. We had never had a vehicle with lane assist and thought it was something we needed to get accustomed to using. It grew irritating so I turned it off. We soon realized it was something else. The steering would stick and jerk. This vehicle is unsafe to drive and cannot be driven in rain or snow. We reported it in January and were told Honda is aware of the issue and working to fix it. In March I took it in for service and asked what was taking so long. They wanted to wait until I brought it back in, to file a report. So on May 3, they told me they're waiting for the Honda district manager to contact them, and they're still waiting. Twice they have test driven it and agreed there is a problem. In January they even test drove a new HRV, after turning off the lane assist, on the lot with the same problem.

Highway or city streets the car drifts and the steering sticks when you correct the drift. This is a safety hazard, if it jerks too much when correcting it could drift into the opposite lane causing a crash. I bought my HR-V in March of 2023 and it was fine until my Low Tire Pressure Sensor triggered. We couldn't find an issue with the tires so we recalibrated the sensor and after that the steering started to stick. I brought it to the dealer and they couldn't find any issues at that time. Over the last couple of weeks it's gotten worse, I called my dealer again and they said they've had to replace two steering racks on the HRV due to this problem. I turned off the lane departure feature to see if that helped but the problem persists.

At highway speeds the car drifts and the steering sticks severely when you correct the drift. The problem happens both to the right and left. I bought my HR-V in June of 2022 and it was fine until December 2022 (about 1800 miles). It was really bad for about 3 months then got a little better. I’ve noticed it getting worse again as winter approaches. I turned off the lane departure feature to see if that helped but the problem persists. The Honda dealer has no idea what is causing the problem.

My steering has become sticky especially during highway driving when trying to stay in my lane. The stickiness makes me have to use extra force which then ends up making a jerky feel and over correcting. The drive is not smooth and feels unsafe for me as well as other vehicles on the road due to the potential of ending up in someone else’s lane. I will be taking my vehicle to the Honda dealer today. No warning lamps or messages have been shown.

Rack and Pinion failing. Jerky and hard steering. I took it in to Honda and they told me it was the rack and pinion and the part wouldn’t be in until May 2023. They continued to have me drive it and told me it was safe to drive.

Steering sticks when turning the wheel giving a jerking feel

Intermittently, the steering wheel feels 'sticky' and any steering adjustments feel jerky. It's as if pressure builds up preventing typical steering adjustments from feeling smooth as they should. I just started experiencing the problem recently again when the temperature dropped below 70F. The problem also seems worse when driving on the highway, which is particularly concerning. Yes, I think Honda needs to address this for safety. Simple lane changes and steering adjustments should not be this difficult. I have owned over a dozen vehicles, and this is the first time I have ever experienced this. Especially with a vehicle with less than 20K on it.

The steering wheel effectively sticks at any speed, especially at the home position. It takes a meaningful amount of force to move the steering wheel once stuck, creating a safety hazard. I noticed this while driving the car, who we bought for our son, creating even more of an issue for him being a new driver. It’s my understanding this is a known issue with the Civic and other models. It does need to be addressed before someone gets hurt.
