TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, VEHICLE SHUDDERING IN BETWEEN GEAR CHANGES. 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY, 58,000 MILES. NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION PER REPAIR SHOP AND DEALER. APPEARS THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON HONDA TRANSMISSIONS FROM 2000 TO 2010 HONDA ODYSSEYS. WILL COST APPROXIMATELY $4800 TO REPLACE. NO RECALL TO DATE YET NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE NET. *TR
WE ARE ORIG OWNER OF VEHICLE. IN 4/11 HAD VAN SERVICED AT HONDA DEALERSHIP. IN 5/11 WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY GOT A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. TOOK TO REPAIR SHOP. NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. CALLED HONDA (WHILE IT WAS BEING SERVICED A TRANNY SHOP) AND THEY SAID IF I TOWED IT TO A DEALERSHIP THEY'D TAKE A LOOK AND DOUBTED ANYTHING COULD BE DONE, BUT THEY'D LOOK. AT THAT POINT I WOULD HAVE HAD TO PAY REPAIR SHOP FOR WORK ALREADY DONE (NEAR 1000). I SEE A RECALL IN THE NEWS FOR 2005+ ODYSSEYS BUT HAVE NEVER BEEN NOTIFIED BY HONDA PERSONALLY. WE WOULD LIKE REIMBURSEMENT FOR FAULTY TRANSMISSION THAT IS A RECURRENT THEME ACCORDING TO THE INTERNET WITH THESE VEHICLES. *KB
WHILE CASUALLY ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, THE TRANSMISSION WILL START SHUTTERING SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 15 AND 35 MILES PER HOUR. IN ORDER TO GET THE TRANSMISSION TO STOP SHUTTERING, I MUST PRESS DOWN HARDER ON THE ACCELERATOR TO GET THE VAN TO SHIFT TO A HIGHER GEAR. *TR

HONDA ODYSSEY 2005 JUST AS THE EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO HESITATE WHEN SLOWLY ACCELERATING FROM 3RD TO 4TH GEAR. HONDA DEALER SAID REPLACEMENT FOR REBUILT (2 YEARS GARANTI) FOR $3000. *TR
2005 HONDA TRANSMISSION IS FAILING AT 60K MILES. SOME MOTOR MOUNTS WERE RUINED FROM THE SHAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FRONT AXLE HAS DAMAGE FROM THE SHAKING AS WELL. AND I STILL NEED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THE GEARING GETS STUCK SHIFTING AROUND 45 MPH, IT GROANS AND SHAKES THE CAR BEFORE FINALLY SHIFTING DOWN A GEAR. *KB
2005 HONDA ODYSSEY, TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 111,930 MILES. THE TRANSMISSIONS SHOPS SAID THE TORQUE CONVERTERS ARE BAD AND FAIL REGULARLY IN THE HONDA VANS. *TR
REBUILD TRANSMISSION DUE TO WORN OUT DIFFERENTIAL BEARINGS THAT CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION FLUIDS TO BREAK THE AXEL SEAL AND LEAK A LOT OF FLUID WHICH COULD OF DESTROYED TRANSMISSION ALL TOGETHER.
AT AROUND 85,000 MILES OUR 2005 ODYSSEY STARTED EXHIBITING A TRANSMISSION SHUDDER IN THE 30-40 MPH RANGE. I TALKED WITH THE DEALER ABOUT IT, AND THEY MENTIONED IT WOULD REQUIRE THE TORQUE CONVERTER BEING REPLACED. HOWEVER, THEY OFFERED A MUCH CHEAPER POSSIBLE FIX TO THE PROBLEM OF REPLACING ALL THE TRANSMISSION FLUID (COST ABOUT $200). THAT SEEMS TO HAVE TEMPORARILY FIXED THE PROBLEM. I HAD THE FLUSH DONE AGAIN AFTER 15,000 MILES. HOPEFULLY, THIS WILL BE THE ONLY FIX NEEDED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED AND REFUSED TO RESTART. A LOCAL MECHANIC REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93,000. UPDATED 01/06/12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING. UPDATED 01/06/12
FIRST OWNERS OT 2005 ODYSSEY, VAN HAS 65K AND ALL SERVICE RECORDS, DEALER TELLS US WE NEED NEWTORQUE CONVERTER AND 2 NEW ENGINE MOUNTS. ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED BY THIS SINCE PREVIOUS HONDA CRX LASTED OVER 180K WITH NO MAJOR REPAIRS...CONTACTED HONDA USA FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. *LN
MY 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY HAS A TRANSMISSION SHUDDER DUE TO THE FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER THAT HONDA PUT INTO THIS VEHICLE. THEE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE AND HONDA IGNORES ITS CUSTOMERS AND PROVIDES NO RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
2005 HONDA ODYSSEY HAS DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSIONS WHICH HONDA NEEDS TO REPLACE BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION JERKS THE VEHICLE FORWARD AT SPEEDS OF 20-45 MPH. THIS IS DANGEROUS AS YOU COULD BE DRIVING SLOWLY AT 15-20MPH IN SCHOOL ZONE AND THE TRANSMISSION JUDDERS AND JERKS THE VEHICLE FORWARD. HONDA IS MAKING CUSTOMERS SPEND $'S TO PERFORM TRANSMISSION FLUID FLUSHES, HAVE DEALERSHIP DO SOFTWARE UPDATES AND CHANGE TORQUE CONVERTERS. NONE OF THESE WILL WORK. PLEASE INVESTIGATE BEFORE VALUABLE LIVES ARE LOST LIKE WITH THE TOYOTA INCIDENT. HONDA DOES NOT WANT TO ISSUE A FORMAL TRANSMISSION RECALL BECAUSE IT WOULD COST THEM HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS TO REPLACE TRANSMISSIONS. MY 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY SHUDDERS AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 30 AND 45. I WAS TOLD I NEED TO REPLACE MY TORQUE CONVERTER. THROUGH VARIOUS RESEARCH, I HAVE BEGUN TO SEE THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM - THERE WAS A SAFETY BULLETIN (09-053) PUBLISHED FOR THE 07 AND 08 MODEL. *TR
THE CAR SHUTTERS AROUND 40 - 50 MPH AS WELL AS ON INCLINES. I'M AMAZED AT HOW MANY COMPLAINTS THERE ARE ABOUT THIS AND HOW COMMON THE DEFECT IS THAT THE TWO PLACES I CALLED AFTER BEING TOLD BY THE HONDA DEALER THAT I NEEDED A $2200 TORQUE CONVERTER PUT IN KNEW IMMEDIATELY WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. THE 05 ODYSSEY'S ARE NOTORIOUS FOR THIS PROBLEM. I'M SURPRISED THAT HONDA HAS LET THIS GO WITHOUT A RECALL. *TR
HONDA ODYSSEY SHUDDERS WHEN SHIFTING GEARS BETWEEN 20 AND 40 MPH. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR 2+ YEARS AND AM NOW TOLD THAT TRANSMISSION IS IN DANGER. *TR
ORIGINAL OWNER OF 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY VAN. AROUND 60,000 MILES AND WHILE STILL UNDER THE HONDA CARE WARRANTY, THE CAR BEGAN TO SHUDDER AT 20-40 MPH SPEEDS WHEN SHIFTING GEARS. SIMILAR TO THE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT TORQUE CONVERTER AND TRANSMISSIONS. THIS IS SCARY AND I KNOW NOT WHAT COULD HAPPEN WHEN TRANSMISSION DECIDES TO LET GO COMPLETELY. LOCAL HONDA DEALER CHECKED THE VEHICLE TWO TIMES BEFORE THE WARRANTY RAN OUT (JULY OF 2010) AND "COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WHEN THEY DROVE IT." ABSENT A RECALL BY HONDA TO CORRECT THIS DEFICIENCY, THE REPORTED PROBLEMS WILL CONTINUE TO GROW UNTIL SOMEONE GETS HURT. I FEEL THEY SHOULD RECALL THE VEHICLE AND FIX THE TRANSMISSION WHEN IT WAS REPORTED TO THEM MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
JUDDER IN TRANSMISSION, GOING UP INCLINE AT ABOUT 32MPH, 1500RPM, ESPECIALLY WHEN COLD. VEHICLE AT 65,000 MILES. *TR
I HAVE 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. IT HAS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, WHENEVER IT SHIFT GEAR AT LOW SPEED AROUND 40 MPH, IT HAS JUDDER PROBLEM. IT HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE HONDA DEALERSHIP THAT IT WILL NEED SOFTWARE UPDATES, SO THEY DID THAT. IT DOES NOT WORK THOUGH, IT IS JUST GETTING WORST. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP SUGGEST CHANGING THE TORQUE CONVERTER/REPLACE THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION. THAT WILL BE VERY COSTLY. I AM HOPING YOU CAN INVESTIGATE THIS FAILURE AND STOP THE FORESEEABLE ACCIDENTS. THIS IS A DEFECT IN HONDA'S TRANSMISSION DESIGN, NOT BECAUSE OF WEAR AND TEAR. THE PROBLEM STARTED AT AROUND 95K MILES AND THE DEALERSHIP ALWAYS SUGGESTS DIFFERENT SOLUTIONS THAT LEADS TO NO FIX. THE PROBLEM GETS WORST AND NOT THEY SUGGEST REPLACING TORQUE CONVERTER. *TR
HONDA ODYSSEY 2005 TRANSMISSION GEAR & BEARING FAILURE WHISTLE SOUND RECOMMENDED BY DEALER TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION. CONSULT TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST AAA APPROVED ALSO CONFIRMED TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. DEALER OFFERED $3,000.00 ON 20/80 SPLIT 20% AMERICAN HONDA SHARE. HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 2002 HONDA ODYSSEY TRANSMISSION HAVE TO PAY 50% OF COST. AROUND $ 1,500.00. NO DECISION YET ON THIS 2005 ODYSSEY BECAUSE OF COST. *TR
WE PURCHASED OUR 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY ON JUNE 16TH, 2010. DURING THE TEST DRIVE AS WELL AS FOR A WEEK OR SO AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, NO PROBLEMS WERE NOTICED. HOWEVER ABOUT 2 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, WE STARTED TO NOTICE THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUDDER AROUND 40-45 MILES AN HOUR, USUALLY ON AN INCLINE. WE TOOK THIS VEHICLE ON A LONG TRIP AND THE SHUDDERING STARTED TO GET WORSE. ON JULY 19, 2010, WE TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE. ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 21ST, THE DEALERSHIP CALLED TO INFORM ME THAT THEY HAD INSTALLED A SOFTWARE UPGRADE FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT IT DIDN'T FIX IT. THEIR RECOMMENDATION WAS EITHER A TORQUE CONVERTER OR A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE TECH WHO WORKED ON MY CAR SAID THEY COULD JUST REPLACE THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND WOULD PROBABLY NOT HAVE ANY MORE PROBLEMS; HOWEVER, HONDA'S RECOMMENDATION WAS TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THEY WERE WAITING ON THE EXTENDED WARRANTY CO. TO CALL AND SEE IF THIS WAS COVERED. LUCKILY, ON THURSDAY, JULY 22ND, THE WARRANTY CO. SENT SOMEONE OUT TO DECIDE IF THEY WOULD COVER IT. THE WARRANTY CO. DECIDED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION OF MY MONTH OLD CAR TO THE TUNE OF $3700. ON FRIDAY, JULY 23RD, I FINALLY GOT MY VEHICLE BACK. HOWEVER, UNFORTUNATELY, IT IS RETURNING TO THE DEALERSHIP DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT VEERS TO THE RIGHT. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY EXL AND IT HAS A SEVERE VIBRATION WHEN OPERATING IN THE ECO MODE. RESEARCH ONLINE SHOWS THE KNOWN CAUSE IS PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE REAR ENGINE MOUNT. THERE ARE LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF FORUMS AND COMPLAINTS FOR THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM. HONDA HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL AND THE REPAIR COST IS $650. *TR
2005 HONDA ODYSSEY TOURING VAN THIS PROBLEM STARTED A WHILE AGO WHEN THE VAN GETS TO A STEADY SPEED OF APROX 40 USUALLY AT A SLIGHT INCLINE THE CAR STARTS TO JITTER OR FEEL LIKE GOING OVER RAILROAD TRACKS. NOW IT IS HAPPENING AT OTHER SPEEDS. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A CRACKED BLOCK MONTHS AGO AND HAD IT REPLACED. THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. NOW BEING TOLD TORQUE CONVERTER WILL FIX THE PROBLEM @$1900. CALLED HONDA USA THEY SAID THE WILL NOT CONSIDER REVIEWING MY CLAIM BECAUSE OF MY MILEAGE IS NOW 100,000. OTHERS ON WEB ARE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS..MY BEST GUESS IS THAT WE HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM FOR 15-20,000 MILES. *TR
OUR 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY EX-L DVD NAV IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME "SHUTTER" ISSUES BEING REPORTED BY NUMEROUS OTHER OWNERS. AS SPEEDS BETWEEN 20-40 MPH, THE VEHICLE WILL STUTTER OR SHUTTER, SPECIFICALLY ON INCLINES. THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON, AND EXPENSIVE PROBLEM WITH HONDA. WE TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY CHARGED $50 FOR A TRANSMISSION UPDATE. SAME ISSUE, SO NOW THEY HAVE ADVISED THAT WE NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION AT $3,000-$4,000. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I PLACED A CALL TO A FRIEND THAT OWNS A TRANSMISSION SHOP 3 HOURS AWAY AND WAS STUNNED TO FIND THAT THEY HAVE TO REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION ON THIS STYLE HONDA ODYSSEY 3-4 TIMES A MONTH. PAY A PREMIUM PRICE AND GET RIPPED OFF BY A COMPANY YOU THINK YOU CAN TRUST. THIS CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS ON OUR HIGHWAYS. *TR
