The contact owns a 2020 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, there were several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that several safety features were disabled during the failure. The vehicle was driven to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the front multi-purpose camera had experienced internal failures. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 6,000.
The sliding door will not open, either manually or automatically. This is a huge safety problem since my children cannot get in or out of the vehicle quickly in an emergency. What should I do if this happens on both doors, I will not be able to open either sliding door.
Regarding my 2020 Honda Odyssey vehicle, there is a manufacturing defect which allows water to infiltrate the rear driver’s side body panel, where it comes into contact with the control unit for the rear power tailgate (a/k/a power liftgate). Once water infiltrates the control unit, it causes the power tailgate to malfunction. Many consumers have reported that the malfunctions include the tailgate opening and closing without notice and while operating the vehicle, the tailgate failing to open, and the tailgate failing to close. With the control module getting wet and becoming oxidize/faulty that also makes the battery work harder which causes the car not to start, etc.. Consumers are then forced to pay out of pocket for expensive repairs only to have the replacement control unit also prone to future failures caused by further water infiltration. Honda of Tenafly is saying this is not a recall and not covered. [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The car had a leak in the trunk that was not our fault it was not due to an accident but rather came that way when we bought it brand new. We were unaware of this leak and now our entire trunk control panel is flooded and the trunk is totally useless as it will not open at all, not even manually. The only way to open it is to crawl to the back and open it from the inside. I asked Honda for a diagnostic and it cost me $200 for them to tell me “yeah we see this issue a lot in the older odyssey” and that it would cost over $1000 to fix. But this was not normal wear and tear or anything caused from lack of care in my part but it was made that way. I am shocked that when I did research on this issue it was happening to ALOT of people and idk why this isn’t part of the recall list.
On 9/11/25 and 9/12/25. Vehicle would not start. Engine would not turnover and no power to display or lights. After 15 minutes, each occurrence car would start with my diehard jump starter. Battery replaced 3 weeks prior and also checked on 9/11/25 . Battery should 600 cold crank amps and alternator was good. Then on 9/13/25, I was at a red light and proceeded when light turn green and shut off. Was same results afterwards wait 15 minutes and jump started.
Sliding doors don’t close. “Left sliding door problem” flashes on dash often. Have to force doors to close all the way. They try to close and then recoil.
The current 2018-2019 Honda Odyssey recall also is applicable to 2020 models. The Infotainment system frequently is popping or crackling from the speakers or no sound from the audio system, display issues, and shuts off completely.
sliding doors will not close! they go to close and open up, I have woken up to my car doors open, several times. come out of the store and my sliding door open, they go to shut completely and open back up.
The start/stop system engaging at a red light on a busy highway shutting the engine off. When the light turned green and my foot was released from the brake the vehicle would not restart. The vehicle would not go into neutral so i was stuck in the lane of a major highway. This happened twice before and Honda said they needed to reprogram the system. They did and now it has happened again leaving me and my family in a very dangerous situation.
Dash has warning light showing "Power Tailgate Problem", and power tailgate will not function. The next day there was heavy rain, and the dash had a flickering warning showing the tailgate was open. This also caused the interior lights to flicker on and off as the tailgate open warning was flickering on and off. I returned the van to my home for fear that the tailgate would open automatically while driving down the road. I had the tailgate control module replaced on February 27, 2025 for this same issue, which was due to a tailgate seal leaking water onto the tailgate control module that shorted the module. This is now the second time within less than one year this same module has shorted out. This is a known issue with a class action lawsuit already filed against Honda that should result in a recall. The potential danger of the tailgate opening while driving makes this minivan not usable to transport my kids for fear of their safety.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that on two occasions while driving with the idle stop feature engaged, while the vehicle was idling and stopped, the engine failed to restart as intended when the brake pedal was released. The vehicle was restarted and operated normally. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer however, the failure was not able to be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.
The power tailgate control module has been failing. That makes power tailgate problem light come on, than the tailgate beeps and eventually fails. It unlatches itself, and won't latch until the control module has been replaced. My control module has been replaced 3 times, and now a week later after being replaced my tailgate has failed again, the power tailgate problem light is on and tailgate won't open. I was told by Honda dealership that theres a water leak that's causing it. Along with replacing the unit they are trying to seal it but it's still failing.
MY GUAGE CONTROL WENT BLACK (It's the screen behind my steering wheel that tells me how many miles the car as, the odometer and speedometer (now don't know my speed!) and has maintenance info that is missing from my view now too! This is a serious safety issue! It also activates cruise control. They want to charge me $2K to replace it. The car is a 2020 with about 32K miles on it! And charged me a $180 diagnostic fee. Incidentally, the radio screen went black a few days later, but when I pressed the brightness button, it came back on. BTW, there is a little stick in front of the screen (maybe for the clock?) and it just spins and spins. Maybe that is simply broken and the brightness is turned down all the way? Though they stated the guage control needs to be replaced entirely. There is not a safety recall on this presently for my VIN and no software updates.
The navigation/ radio / rear view camera just resets multiple times while driving, sometimes it happens more frequently than other days. Message that comes up is: Network Communication Lost. Researched online and tried to resolve via software update but seems to made it worse. Reluctant to take to the dealer as warranty has expired and more importantly, blogs show that the issues have never been resolved even after dealer. Wiring harness replacement didn’t resolve.
My 2020 Honda Odyssey is exhibiting problems with the infotainment system. The system will reboot randomly, disabling all functionality of the rear back-up camera, the audio system, the clock, and all other associated features of the "infotainment" system. The screen will display "NETWORK CONNECTION LOST" and "MOST NET OFF" prior to unprompted reboot. System will reboot continuously following failure. Issue is ongoing for the past few months. This issue is the exact issue covered by the NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V439000. Possibly covered under 20V440000. Other 2020 Honda Odyssey vehicles are covered by this recall, however my VIN was not covered. I called Honda, and was not assisted in the slightest with the issue. I am requesting my VIN be added to the recall list, and/or Honda be penalized for improperly identifying vehicles with the affected issue. As it can prevent the rearview camera image from displaying, this vehicle fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 101, "Control and Displays" and 111, "Rearview Mirrors."
This model has had a recall of the wire being to short and having faulty connections. I have replaced the wires module now 5 times . The last time it got replaced after a couple of months the screen on the car has gone blank and now they tell me the whole computer needs to be replaced. No LCD and no backup screen . This is absolutely ridiculous . Anything that can be done this car seems to be a electrical disaster.
When trying to close Rear sliding doors it just beeps once it gets half way closed then it gos back open and it won’t close unless you turn off automatic mode to manual and you have to physically Very hard to close them and they are very hard to open like very hard to open and close so if you don’t have the strength and it happens to you your screwed or stranded with your little kids and specially if you don’t live in a great neighborhood that can be very scary and from what I’ve researched online that on the Honda odyssey it is a very common issue and Honda just wants you to spend 1500$ to fix it and from what I’ve seen it’s either the cable or the motor or the rollers apparently it’s very common for the motor and the cables to die and break and if you call the Honda dealer, they know exactly what the issue is that’s how common it is. I definitely believe it should be recall. And I believe in my opinion, that’s a major safety issue
The heads up unit, navigation and audio system completely shut down after Network connection lost message. This started happening after recall of a cable, before it was fine, same cable was replaced under warranty a year ago. The problem is reproducible, simply driving vehicle and hitting a bump on passenger/right side cases the system to malfunction, disconnect audio, and eventually whole system shutdown and restart. I will take this back to the dealership but electronics in Honda Odyssey has been unreliable and feels like a safety risk.
There is a distracting static coming out of the speakers. sounds like popping and crackling.
The speakers of our Odyssey crackle and pop despite completing the recall (MOST bus connectors) recommended by Honda. It has progressed to affect the entire infotainment unit. The unit shutdowns repeatedly while driving which means that the backup camera fails, as well as any navigation one is using while traveling. The hands-free phone features are also affected as one cannot connect their phone to the car. We've attempted repairs at the Honda dealership but they have been unable to provide a permanent fix. Each time they try to replace a connector or un-kink a wire, the problem returns within days. Most recently, the battery died and the car was unable to start due to the constant restarting of the infotainment center.
NEW CAR- PURCHASED IN OCT 2020 HAS HAD PERSISTENT ISSUES WITH THE INFOTAINMENT/CAMERA UNIT REPEATEDLY GOING BLACK AND REBOOTING. SOMETIMES OFF FOR UP TO 20 MINUTES WITHOUT ACCESS TO BACKUP CAMERA (I LIVE ON A BUSY STREET ACROSS FROM AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL) OR GPS. THIS HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME THE DAY I DROVE IT HOME FROM THE DEALER AND HAS HAPPENED SINCE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO SERVICE ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS IN INCLUDING REPLACING THE INFOTAINMENT UNIT AND THE ISSUE CONTINUES. THIS IS A NEW VEHICLE. EVERY TIME I DRIVE MORE THAN 20 MINUTES IT STARTS REBOOTING EVERY 15 MINUTES OR SO. THIS IS RIDICULOUS.
Infotainment system failure. It started by popping and crackling then the entire screen and entertainment system went black. No radio, Bluetooth, backup camera or any of the controls on the infotainment system screen.
DEFECTIVE 2020 HONDA ODYSSEY RECEIVED BRAND NEW JUNE 9. BEGAN HAVING ISSUES IN 2 MONTHS. SERVICED AT BAYTOWN, TX COMMUNITY HONDA ON 9/11, 9/24,9/17,10/16 FOR OCCURRING ISSUE. PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. VIDEO DOCUMENTATION WITH TIME STAMP OF ISSUE IS SAVED. CASE OPEN WITH AMERICA HONDA: CASE MANAGER, ANTONIO DETERMINED THE HONDA TECHS AT THE DEALER ARE INCORRECTLY FIXING THE VAN. THE FAKRA CONNECTOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. HE WILL SUBMIT REQUEST TO FIELD MANAGER TEAM FOR A FIELD ENGINEER TO BE SCHEDULED TO SERVICE MY VAN. ANTONIO, CASE MANAGER, ALSO ADVISED TO CANCEL 11/19 APPOINTMENT WITH SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND TO WAIT FOR CALL BACK FOR HONDA FIELD ENGINEER. COSTUMER REQUESTED ETA, ANTONIO WOULD NOT PROVIDE ESTIMATED TIME, ADVISE TO WAIT FOR A CALL. POPPING NOISE, DISCONNECTS BLUETOOTH. POPPING NOISE OCCURS WHEN DRIVER IS ON A CALL, LISTENING TO MUSIC, AND EVEN DURING COMPLETE SILENCE THERE IS POPPING. ELECTRICAL ISSUE OCCURS DURING STATIONARY, IN MOTION, ON A CITY, HIGHWAY, AND TURNING. THE PROBLEM IS UNSAFE BECAUSE BLUETOOTH CONNECTION IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY WHICH PREVENTS ME TO SAFELY USE HAND FREE CALLING. THIS IS ILLEGAL IN THE STATE OF TEXAS. THE HONDA ODYSSEY 2020 CURRENTLY HAS 7298 MILES.
PURCHASED BRAND NEW MARCH 2020. EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH RADIO STATIC, POPPING NOISES FROM SPEAKERS, RADIO NOT FOUND ERROR MESSAGE WHILE DRIVING. RADIO STILL RUNNING AFTER CAR IS TURNED OFF AND DOORS ARE OPENED. WE HAVE TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON AND OFF AGAIN TO GET THE RADIO TO SHUT OFF. ISSUES WORSENED AFTER RECALL WORK WAS COMPLETED.
WE BOUGH THE VEHICLE NEW, AND IT WAS FINE FOR THE FIRST 1800 MILES. THEN, THE ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM STARTED RANDOMLY POWERING DOWN, USUALLY FIRST DISPLAYING A MESSAGE "NETWORK COMMUNICATION LOST". SOMETIMES IT WILL COME BACK ON, SOMETIMES IT CANNOT BE RESTARTED FOR DAYS AT A TIME. (WHEN IT DOES COME BACK ON, THERE USUALLY IS A POPPING SOUND COMING FROM THE SPEAKERS). THIS HAPPENS AT RANDOM, IRREGARDLESS IF THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION OR NOT. BESIDES FOR NOT HAVING THE ABILITY TO LISTEN TO MUSIC WHILE DRIVING, THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, BECAUSE WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE BACKUP CAMERA DOES NOT WORK EITHER. SO, YOU HAVE A LARGE VEHICLE (I.E. A MINIVAN) WITH MINIMAL REAR VISIBILITY, WHICH IS USUALLY USED AROUND CHILDREN, AND YOU HAVE NO WAY OF SEEING WHAT'S BEHIND YOU. I BROUGHT THIS TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS. I SPOKE TO AMERICAN HONDA AND THEY ALSO SAID THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS. THIS IS LITERALLY A DEAD CHILD WAITING TO HAPPEN.
