DRIVING STARTED TO SWAY SLIGHTLY FOR NO APPARENT REASON, ON THE WAY HOME THERE WAS A SUDDEN GRINDING AND LOSS OF CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE STAYING IN ONE LANE, I PULLED IT OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND LOOKED AT IT. THE REAR TRAILING ARM RUSTED AND SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME. HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS OVER THIS ISSUE AS WELL AS COMPLAINTS THAT CANADA IS REIMBURSED AND IN THE US IT IS HARD TO GET THE PROPER COMPENSATION. HAD THE VEHICLE FOR TWO YEARS, WERE ASSURED THERE WERE NO RECALLS WHEN WE BOUGHT IT FROM A DEALER, WE WERE NEVER INFORMED OF ANY RECALLS WHILE OWNING IT. VEHICLE HAS RECALLS ON RUST AND THE FRAME THAT HONDA SAID EXPIRED, BUT THEY HAD US TOW OUR VEHICLE TO HONDA CENTER THEN OFFERED 100 DOLLARS TO US AFTER THE TOW FEE WAS DEDUCTED OR WE COULD PAY 1800 TO FIX IT. WE HAD IT IN A SAFE PLACE THAT WOULD HAVE GIVEN US MUCH MORE MONEY FOR TOTALING IT OUT BECAUSE HE WOULDN'T FIX IT DUE TO THE REPAIR STILL BEING UNSAFE. THIS IS THIS PARTICULAR SERVICE CENTERS WAY OF GETTING UNSAFE HONDA'S OFF THE ROAD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA PASSPORT. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH AND MAKING A RIGHT TURN THE VEHICLE BECAME UNCONTROLLABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE FRAME AND NOTICED THAT THERE WAS RUST AND CORROSION ALL OVER THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO NOTIFIED HIM OF RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V436000 (SUSPENSION: REAR) HOWEVER, THE RECALL WAS EXPIRED FOR HIS VEHICLE AND HE SHOULD CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO VERIFIED THAT THE RECALL WAS EXPIRED AND REFERRED HIM BACK TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 165,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA PASSPORT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE VEERED INTO ANOTHER LANE ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MERGE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC. AFTER INSPECTION, THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE REAR SUSPENSION HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE ISSUE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HE MISSED THE EXPIRATION DATE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V436000 (SUSPENSION:REAR). THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 175,000.
I TOOK MY CAR TO A REPAIR SHOP FOR REGULAR SERVICE ON AUGUST 7, 2012. THE MECHANIC CALLED ME AND SAID THAT ELEMENTS OF THE REAR SUSPENSION, PARTICULARLY THE REAR AXLE LOWER LINK BRACKET MENTIONED IN THE 1998 HONDA PASSPORT RECALL - #00V058000, AS WELL AS SEVERAL OTHER PARTS RELATED TO THE REAR SUSPENSION, WERE SO CORRODED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. I HAD TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED HONDA DEALER TO ADDRESS THE RECALL MENTIONED ABOVE, AND AT THAT TIME THEY APPLIED AN ANTI-CORROSIVE COATING TO THESE AFFECTED PARTS. THIS SOLUTION DID NOT SEEM TO WORK. AT THE TIME, SOME OWNERS OF THE MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR OF THIS VEHICLE HAD THEIR VEHICLES BOUGHT BACK BY THE MANUFACTURER. I FEEL THAT I SHOULD HAVE BEEN OFFERED THAT OPTION. INSTEAD, A VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO ME THAT WAS UNSAFE TO TRANSPORT MY FAMILY. *TR
BACK HALF OF FRAME SHOWS SEVERE RUST DAMAGE INCLUDING HOLES IN FRAME. REAR END VIBRATION AT HIGHWAY SPEED. FOUND WHEN INSPECTING TAILPIPE WHICH HAS BROKEN AND WAS HANGING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA PASSPORT. THE CONTACT STATED SHE RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V436000 (SUSPENSION: REAR) AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE UNDERCARRIAGE WAS RUSTED AND CORRODED AND THAT RECALL REPAIRS COULD NOT BE PERFORMED DUE TO THE RUST AND CORROSION FOUND ON THE FRAME. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,300.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA PASSPORT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V436000 (SUSPENSION:REAR). AFTER THE REPAIRS, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR SUSPENSION WAS STILL RUSTING. THE DEALER DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH FURTHER REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND WAS IN THE PROCESS OF ASSISTING THE CONTACT WITH THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,700.
MY 98 HONDA PASSPORT IS APART OF THIS RECENT RECALL. MY TRUCK HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR A WEEK NOW AND THEY ARE WAITING TO HEAR FROM HONDA. IT SEEMS TO ME MAY BE UNDRIVABLE. *LN

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 HONDA PASSPORT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH AND ATTEMPTING A RIGHT TURN, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WITHOUT WARRANT AND CRASHED INTO A DITCH. THE ROOF OF THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A TELEPHONE POLE AND THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED TO ROLL OVER ON ITS WHEELS. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A RUPTURED SPLEEN, SPRAINED RIGHT ANKLE AND ARM, COLLAPSED LUNG AND SEVERAL BRUISES AND LACERATIONS TO THE FACE. THE CONTACT LATER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V436000 (SUSPENSION: REAR) AND BELIEVED THE DEFECTIVE SUSPENSION WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 230,000.
PASSENGER SIDE REAR WHEEL LOUD VIBRATION, FEELING OF BACK OF VEHICLE BEING LOOSE, NOT IN CONTROL, LOOSE REAR END ON VEHICLE. *TR
THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR TRAIL ARM BRACKET / CONTROL ARM BRACKET HAS BROKEN AWAY FROM THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT HAS RUSTED / ROTTED. *TR
VEHICLE SHAKES SEVERELY AT 40 MPH AND FASTER. THE SHAKE IS WORSE WHEN THE SPEED REACHES AND EXCEEDS 70 MPH. DEALERSHIP SERVICED THE VEHICLE THREE TIMES AND FOUND NO PROBLEM. THE TIRES WERE BALANCED AND ROTATED TWICE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDETERMINED SPEED VEHICLE VIBRATED. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP ON FIVE OCCASIONS, HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK

WHEN VEHICLE IS DRIVEN OVER A ROUGH PATCH IN ROAD/ IN WET OR DRY WEATHER CONDITIONS VEHICLE SHAKES LIKES IT IS FALLING APART. DEALER HAS YET TO BE CONTACTED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 55-75 STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES SHARPLY AND PULLS TO THE RIGHT, DEALER HAS REPLACED AND BALANCED FRONT TIRES AND ALIGNED FRONT END, AS WELL AS INSTALLED NEW GEAR RETURN SPRING. DEALERS EXPLANATION FOR THE PROBLEMS RANGE FROM UNEVEN PAVEMENT TO AGGRESSIVE TREAD PATTERN ON TIRES. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TO MEET WITH THE MANUFACTURE'S AREA REPRESENATIVE. *AK

NOISE COMES FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE DEALER REFUSED TO DO RECALL REPAIR UNTIL THE LEASE EXPIRES (00V-058). YH
AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES UNCONTROLLABLY. THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
DEALER TRIED 3 TIMES TO FIX SUSPENSION/SHAKING STEERING WHEEL; STILL NOT FIXED.*AK
VEHICLE SHIMMIES AND WOBBLES BETWEEEN 60 - 70 MPH. STEERING WHEEL BEGINS TO VIBRATE AT 60-70 MPH. FIRST TRIP WAS TOLD TIRES NEEDED BALANCING. TIRES WERE BALANCED AND SERVICE INDICATED THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED. RETURNED LESS THAN A MONTH LATER AND WAS TOLD A "SLIGHT" VIBRATION WAS "NORMAL". HOWEVER THE VIBRATION IS EXTREME. CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED 3 - 4 TIMES SINCE INITIAL VISIT TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD BY SERVICE MANAGER HE WAS HAD BEEN IN CONTACT WITH AMERICAN HONDA AND HONDA ENGINEERS WERE WORKING ON A SOLUTION BUT A TIME FRAME FOR AN ANSWER WAS UNKNOWN. WAS CONTACTED BY AMERICAN HONDA AND TOLD TO RETURN THE VEHICLE FOR ADDITIONAL BALANCING. VEHILCE KEPT FOR A WEEK BUT THE PROBLEM WAS UNRESOLVED. HELP!!!! *AK
BAD VIBRATION AT 55MPH AND ABOVE, ALSO PULLS EITHER DIRECTION. DEALER CAN'T FIX THREE TIMES. CALLED MANUFACTURER. THEY SAY DEALER CAN INSTALL A "YOKE SPRING" TO CUT DOWN ON VIBRATION. SERVICE MNGR AT DEALERSHIP SAID HE HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS YOKE SPRINGCALLED SERVICE DEPT 4 TIMES AND EACH TIME THEY SAY PART WILL BE IN 2-3 DAYS. IT HAS NOW BEEN 3 WEEKS STILL NO YOKE SPRING. *AK
EXTREME VIBRATION IN STEERING WHEEL AT SPEEDS 55 TO 75 MPH. VEHICLE PULLS TO BOTH DIRECTIONS. DEALER HAS ALLIGNED, BALANCED AND REPLACED TIRES. AFTER THIRD ATTEMPT, DEALER INFORMS US THERE IS NOTHING FURTHER THEY CAN DO TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM AT THIS TIME. ALSO, RIGHT FRONT AREA MAKES SQUEEKING SOUND. WE TEST DROVE A BRAND NEW PASSPORT LIKE OURS ON THE SAME LOT, IT HAD SLIGHT VIBRATION PROBLEM AS WELL. WE WERE TOLD BY SERVICE MANAGER THAT WITHIN 500 MILES THAT VEHICLE WOULD DO THE SAME AS OURS.*AK
