My keyless start system is going off and on and this is supposedly a well known problem with this year and model and the start stop buttoning going off and car stalling etc. it says to report to you all online.
When the vehicle idle is on and I break at a red light or stop sign it has NOT started back up. This has happened a few times. Today at a red light it cut it did it and I needed a jump start to get it back working.

Honda issued Service Bulletin 20-117 regarding a Warranty Extension for the 2016–2017 Pilot and 2017 Ridgeline addressing a Keyless Start System Error with DTC B12C5. Following an NHTSA investigation, Honda extended warranty coverage to 9 years or 125,000 miles under this bulletin. My 2016 Honda Pilot currently has 107,000 miles and is only six months past the nine-year time limit. Earlier this year, the Keyless Start System warning indicator began appearing intermittently—illuminating for a few seconds before disappearing for days or weeks. Recently, the warning began to stay on continuously. Per Honda’s initial guidance, I replaced the key fob battery and even swapped fobs with my wife, but the issue persisted. On October 16th, I brought the vehicle to Honda of Chantilly, where technicians diagnosed a faulty start/stop button requiring replacement. I then opened case #15920037 with Honda, but they declined to cover or reimburse the repair, despite it being a known defect covered under the extended warranty for others. I respectfully request that the NHTSA assist in having Honda honor the warranty extension for this documented issue, given the close proximity to the coverage limit and the long-standing nature of the defect.
My battery was being drained until dead by a faulty keyless control module. I paid to have the battery replaced after my son and I got stranded 1.5 hours from home. All the lights on the dash went off and nearly every error code displayed as well. Currently at Honda dealership getting the module replaced at a mere $840 after I paid $370 for battery installation when my car "broke down". Now to see I am not the only Honda customer with this issue in this model of vehicle. The car started displaying all the error codes about a week before it began just completely draining the battery that was on 6/23. Battery replaced that day and by Saturday 6/28 was unable to start my car due to battery being completely dead. Had to jump my car and take to dealership on sunday 6/29. So was late to work and have been without my vehicle for over a week while they were trouble shooting the issue.
Car sound system distort and no sound after 10 minutes of driving. No bluetooth audio, radio, music working. Changing volume, sound setting, factory reset the info system but the problem still exist. Increase the A/C fan speed and driving through pumps seems make the problem start earlier. Sometimes, turn off the car and restart the car after 30 minutes, the sound system is back on, but after the 10-15 minutes the sound went off again. This problem could cause safety issue as I relied on navigation sound while driving. There seems to be the same problem that being recalled in newer model.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH, the Lane Departure, Adaptive Cruise Control, and two additional warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the Blind Spot System and Cross-Traffic warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the START/STOP button failed to start the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the multi-purpose camera and all safety system features, and the START/STOP system had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer confirmed that the repair was not covered under recall or warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
I was driving the car and suddenly it stopped working in the road luckily I was near my home when it happened it was due to my alternator dying without any warning besides a low battery warning on my car I later took it to the dealer and was told it was due to a oil leak on the alternator luckily I was not on the turnpike or the expressway or I would be dead
REAR PASSENGER DOOR IS MARKING OPEN WHEN DOOR IS LOCKED
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? "Keyless Start System" message has been haunting me for close to a year now. Yes, available for inspection and has been by a local Honda service center. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I was left stranded when my vehicle would not start. Battery jumped and I was able to get on but the issue is not my battery, it is the start/stop electrical malfunction that so many others have cited experiencing. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes and I've scheduled an appt. with local service center (again). Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes, Keyless Start System problem which originated in 2023. The warnings fluctuated for a while intially but have been on since my car would not start as reported above. This incident took place a few weeks ago.
Car stalled at intersection due to start/stop feature. Engine did not restart when my wife removed her foot from the brake pedal and went to press the gas pedal. Engine stalled. After turning the car completely off it would start back up.
Vehicle dash flickers and does a partial starting then stops. The interior lights come on and stay on for hours. The alarm will activate randomly and not stop until you lock then unlock vehicle.
I have a 2016 Pilot Touring that is giving me a perplexing problem. After having the audio system turned on for a few minutes (regardless of whether the car engine is on or off), I start hearing static noise - faintly at first, then it builds louder and louder until it overcomes whatever I was listening to. It happens whether I am listing to radio, iPod, Bluetooth, or phone. Doesn't matter whether I am listening to music, podcast, or audiobook. The static is in front and rear, left and right. It gets so loud that finally there is no way to hear anything else. My mechanic said could be make a fire because the fan is not working to make radio works good.and you know radio is very important to every cars.
The vehicle does not start upon first press of the ENGINE START/STOP button. Also, MID displays the error message KEYLESS START SYSTEM ERROR.
After the most recent recall fix was applied, the keyless start system started acting up. It would start, but died after 1 second I have video of this happening. In this video, it fails twice and starts on the third attempt. 03/01
After coming to a stop at a red light, the engine auto stop engaged as normal. About a minute passed, and when I took my foot off the brake and tried to start driving, the engine did not start again. The screen on dashboard the said to switch to park and turn the car off. This car has already received the PGM-FI roughly a month ago, after this happened previously.
2016 Pilot has an annoying issue. When it is turned off, the panel lights flicker. You can hear the relays clicking behind the panel. The headlights come on. Often the car alarm randomly goes off. They want to charge us $800 to replace the Keyless control unit. and nothing was resolved with this issue. It seems they are just throwing darts at possible solutions. They won't guarantee this will fixe the issue. They will not refund us the $800 if this part isn't even a problem ;-( To our knowledge, we don't think we have had the issue occur when the car is unlocked. It doesn't happen every time the car is locked
The keyless control unit module is malfunctioning, causing the car to attempt to turn itself on, and the car alarm to go off constantly. This problem has occurred multiple times and has been inspected by the dealership mechanics. The issue comes with no warning lights, messages, or other indication forms. The dashboard lights up and there is no odometer reading, the MPH is not displaying or any other functions within the dashboard. The mechanic shop received the error "Data on keyless access control unit reach ignition voltage at 25 volts internally". According to the Honda corporate office, there are no recalls regarding this issue. I had the same problem back on [XXX] and Galpin Honda located at 11151 Laurel Canyon, Mission Hills, CA 91340 performed Campaign 20-117-6S100-2016=17 Pilot Ridgeline Start/Stop Switch - Keyless system problem and replaced the engine start/stop switch. I called the Dealership multiple times and was finally able to speak to the Service Manager, Peter Melendez, who was not able to approve for my car to be inspected free of charge. Please note that I have had multiple electrical issues including the sensor system which I had to pay out of pocket. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The entertainment/audio/entire media system malfunctions after 25 minutes of driving, causing extremely loud static that gets louder and louder to the point that you can’t hear yourself think. After several minutes of static the system sound dissapears and cannot be turned on until the vehicle is left off for an underground amount of time.
The digital speedometer on the gauge cluster will sporadically stop working. Traveling at highway speeds with no idea of the vehicle speed presents a hazard for driver and passengers when approaching turns in the road and not knowing your speed. Valley Honda Naperville, IL checked the vehicle and could find no issue. A video of the issue was shared with Valley Honda. The speedometer flashes on and off without warning and sometimes remains off for extended periods of time. No warning lights or messages and the service center stated that no error codes were stored in the on board computer. Vehicle is available for inspection and a video documented the issue is also available upon request. The date listed below is just one of several dates when the problem occured.
The OEM stereo will only work for a minute or two. This issue is known across all types of forums across the internet, as well as at dealerships. The reason this is a safety concern, as far as I'm concerned, is that when you are in remote areas of the country on the highway system, you will often see signs informing you to tune into an AM station for road conditions and advisories. If my stereo does not work through no fault of my doing, but due to a poor design by Honda, how am I to tune into the station to receive relative information to road/traveling conditions? These locations often coincide with having no cell service, as they are in rural/remote/mountainous regions. My only recourse is to buy a new stereo, that will eventually fail with the same issue. This issue was recalled for 2018 and newer Honda Pilots, how was 2016 and 2017 left out of this recall? Seems like gross negligence on the part of the NHTSA to me.
2016 Pilot Touring electrical issue, issue with keyless control unit, panel / relays flicker, alarm goes off unexpectedly.
The cars emergency horn will go on for no reason and the dashboard lights will flicker on and off. Honda dealer has my car and the part is back ordered now for 2 weeks and they don’t know when it is coming in. I have been reading several issues with this. This needs to be recalled with so many having issues and it being about $800.00 to repair
Speakers static when on audio but hands free are clear through the speaker
Car alarm randomly goes off, then the car alarm goes off, dash board lights up then car won’t start. I bought the car 2/28 and this has been happening not stop since July. Honda said it was the keyless access system and quoted 800 dollar to replace
