Wiring is clearly broken down on the left side inside the tailgate causing the backup camera to not work. Sounds like an incredibly common issue and I am being quoted $700 to have it fixed.

The backup camera went blank. I no longer have a backup camera to safely backup. I found the wires leading to the tailgate are severed due to opening and closing the tailgate. I have 53,000 miles on the truck.
rear back up camera failure due to rear gate wiring harness failure
The backup camera has failed. Troubleshooting led me to discover the wiring harness where the tailgate opens and closes is frayed exposing/cutting the wires. Likely wires are low voltage. However, could there present a sparking hazard and ignite flammables being carried? At this time, the camera has no display.
Back up camera stopped working due to wiring harness cut by rear tailgate closing
Opening and closing the tailgate has resulted in the wires breaking that go to the backup camera. Needless to say you need to be able to open and close tailgate on a truck.
Backup camera stopped working. It started in 2019 with the down looking view would show black but the other views still working, today 6/18/2022 all views are black with only the gridlines showing on the screen. Upon inspection the wire harness and wires are broken where the cable goes from the tailgate to the body due to opening and closing the tailgate using the hinge on the side.
The harness to the backup camera has split due to the tailgate and the backup camera is no longer working.
wiring for back up camera was designed to rub against the tailgate hinge.after several years it rubs through the insulation and then the back up camara doesnt work.Poorly designed ,in fact designed to fail
broken tailgate harness causing the backup camera to no longer work. my vehicle is available for inspection, at this time. I can no longer see behind my vehicle and may injure animals, children, or damage property when driving in reverse. This is no longer covered by warranty, but is a poor design where the tailgate itself clamps and eventually cuts the wiring harness. I have confirmed this issue with dozens of other 2017-2018 ridgeline owners. there was no warning other than my screen going black one day after using the vertical hinge on the tailgate.
Backup camara failure due to failure of wiring harness through tail gate.
The truck’s dual swinging tailgate pinches the wiring harness leading to the backup camera causing a break in the wires. The inoperative backup camera poses a safety concern. Repairing the wires or replacing the OEM wire harness does not address the design flaw. Please contact me with and questions or concerns. Poor design for wiring harness in tailgate causing back up camera to cease working
Backup camera wiring harness has been pinched and broken by opening the tailgate resulting in the backup camera malfunction.
After reading about this issue I know it's common, however it just happened to me. My backup camera in my 2017 Honda Ridgeline is now black - and sure enough if you open the tailgate you can see exposed wires where there should be black conduit covering them. I am pretty bummed because this is a car I have had about 18 months. I'm sure they will tell me I need a new harness and it will cost me a bundle to fix. Now I am worried that it will just break again after reading all the other complaints about this issue. I want to be part of the law suit for this issue but not sure how to get on that train.
I own a 2017 Honda Ridgeline and am original owner. Couple of months ago my backup camera went black with only the yellow space image showing on the screen. Went to dealer and they said it was the camera. Made appointment for this repair for $391. After 2 hours they said it wasn't the camera and that the wiring harness in the tailgate was severed and to replace it was $1,641. I said no thanks. In researching online I guess it is a very common problem. You tend to rely on it. There was no warning that it was going to happen. I backed into another vehicle recently that I am sure I would not have had the camera worked. This is not a work truck. It is my daily driver. I currently have almost 38,000 miles on it and have owned it just over 4 years so it is beyond the warranty coverage. In my opinion there should be a recall by Honda Motor Corporation for this serious problem.
The back up camera stopped working. Can't detect any movement when backing up, ie, children, adults, pets etc. I have small grandchildren and this is a very big concern. Service scheduled for July 6, 2021. Work order stated broken wires due to corrosion, camera and wiring harness needed to be replaced. Manufacturer has been contacted.*JB No warning or message to alert us. It stopped working June24, 2021 From research on line, this is an issue on the 2017 Ridgeline. Wiring harness on tailgate wires are being broken due to location in the tailgate.
The back-up camera harness runs through the tailgate. Through repeated, normal wear and tear, this wires within the camera harness crack / split, requiring a repair of this harness.
