Rear safety camera does not work and can be inspected. Cannot see via camera when backing up. Has not yet been inspected by anyone but myself and no outside party has yet been contacted. There were no warning signs other than black screen when in reverse. Broken wires can be visibly seen at driver's side tailgate hinge point. Appears to be flawed design that does not allow for sharp bending of wires on repeated usage of tailgate.
The rear camera shows black when shifting into reverse. Upon checking it appears the wire harness that contains the wiring from the camera to the dash is cracked. P/N32109-T6Z-A00. Approximately 40 other vehicles in the 2017-2018 years have experienced the same problem.
A fire started in the engine compartment of the 2018 Honda Ridgeline. The vehicle was being driven while towing a lightweight trailer. The driver pulled over to allow vehicles to pass and check the trailer. The driver allowed the engine to idle. As the driver returned to the vehicle she smelled and saw smoke then saw flames appearing from under the hood near the windshield on the driver's side of the vehicle. Recall work was performed under NHTSA Recall 19V-053 10/09/2019.
I have had 2 windshields crack in this vehicle. I had to have it replaced 2 years ago when a small rock cracked the entire bottom of the glass. The 2nd incident happened on July 2nd, 2022. A rock hit the windshield in the mirror area and caused a huge chip. I do not think this is normal. It sounded like a small explosion when it hit.
My backup camera has stopped working only a month after buying the vehicle. The issue is consistent with others filed against Honda for this model, with the wires clearly severed due to how it was manufactured in the tailgate door. Honda refuses to cover the repair despite this being a known complaint
2018 Honda Ridgeline rear back up camera has stopped working 04/02/22. Seems to be a common issue. Clearly can see damage to wires from the tail gate.
The wire harness connecting the backup camera wears upon repeated use of the tailgate and breaks the wires inside the harness. This renders the camera inoperative and creates a hazard to surrounding people because they are not visible if behind the vehicle when the vehicle is in the process of backing.
Back up camera periodically fails. Noticed it today but has happened off and on for the past year.
BACKUP CAMERA QUIT WORKING. INSPECTION OF WIRING HARNESS GOING TO TAILGATE SHOWS WIRE LOOM DISINTEGRATED, WIRES BROKEN.
