TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHEN THE IGNITION WAS ACTIVATED THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR THE MALFUNCTION SINCE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V53300 (AIR BAG FRONTAL SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE) RECALL WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED. THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CONTINUED TO REMAIN ILLUMINATED WHEN THE ENGINE WAS ON. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHEN THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR IMMEDIATELY ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED LIT UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE AIR BAG MODULE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V533000 (AIR BAGS, FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE), ALTHOUGH THE FAILURES WERE IDENTICAL. HEAD ON COLLISION, DRIVERS SIDE, AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, THREE PEOPLE IN THE CAR ALL SUSTAINED INJURIES, DRIVER WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL....DAMAGE TO THE CAR FROM THIS ACCIDENT IS CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS.......MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS WHY DIDN'T MY AIRBAGS DEPLOY?*AK
WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION. UPON IMPACT, BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THIS CAUSED THE DRIVER TO SUSTAIN MAJOR INJURIES, AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION.*AK
DT: THE CONSUMER STATES SON PARKED IN A PARKING LOT AND WHEN HE TRIED TO GET INTO THE CAR HE HEARD A LOUD BANG, ALL OF A SUDDEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING. HE WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS OKAY TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED. A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND RUNNING THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE IS AT A DEALERSHIP BEING REPAIRED FOR FOUR RECALLS . THE RECALLS DID NOT INCLUDE AIR BAGS. NO CRASHES WERE INVOLVED TO MAKE THE AIR BAGS DEPLOY. DT: THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON THREE TIMES. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER TWICE, BUT PROBLEM RECURRED. DEALER SAID A CODE CAME UP ON THE DIAGNOSTIC THAT SAID ?P1378 DSAB HIGH RESISTANCE?. DRIVER SEAT CONNECTOR WAS DISCONNECTED. DEALER SAID THEY FIXED THE CONNECTOR. BUT THE NEXT DAY THE LIGHT WAS BACK ON. THE SECOND TIME A CODE OF ?P1367 PSBP RESISTANCE TOO HIGH?. CHECKED HARNESS CONNECTOR AND FOUND IT TO BE OKAY. ALSO, AIR BAG LIGHT APPEARED. CLEARED COMPUTER CODE AND RETESTED VEHICLE AND NO CODES WERE FOUND AT THIS TIME.*AK ABL.PCO
CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT WAS TRAVELING AT 65 MPH. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH IN THE RAIN, THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES, HOWEVER THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE COLLIDED HEAD ON WITH SEVERAL TREES. THE CONSUMER WAS WEARING HIS SEAT BELT, BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND THE CONSUMER WAS INJURED IN THE ACCIDENT. *JB
WHEN REAR ENDED 40 MPH FRONT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
CAR INVOLVED IN A COLLISON, AIR BAGS FAILED TO OPEN, DRIVER INJURED, CAR STRUCK ON PASSENGER SIDE, CAR WAS A TOTAL LOST. *JB
THE AIRBAG SENSOR IN MY 2002 HYUNDAI ELANTRA GT DOES NOT WORK. THE DEALER SAYS THIS IS BECAUSE THE MODULE GOT WET DUE TO COFFEE BEING SPILLED ONTO IT. THE SENSOR SITS SOMEWHERE UNDER THE CUP HOLDER. LIQUID CAN GET INTO IT VIA THE GEAR SELECTOR. DEALER SAYS THIS IS OWNER ABUSE AND WANTS $1200 TO REPAIR. TO ME, THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT BECAUSE IT SHOULD BE EXPECTED THAT SOME LIQUID MAY SPILL FROM A CUP IN THE CUP HOLDER. EVEN IF WE REPLACE THE MODULE, SINCE IT IS NOT SEALED, THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT SOMETHING WON'T SPILL ON IT IN THE FUTURE.*AK ABL.PCO
WHILE TRAVELING AT 35 TO 40 MPH DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE AND SLAMMED HEAD ON INTO A STREET POLE. UPON IMPACT, NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THEN, AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED SHORTLY AFTER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER. *AK
