The Dealer at Selma Hyundai (2505 Highland Ave. Selma, Ca. 93662) was unable to complete the the recall. Dealer stated “unable to complete PODS update attempted multiple times. Current Scan tool does not support hook-up to cables and option is to update no present. Air bag light due to PODS (passenger occupant ECU) fault with loss of calibration. Scan tool will not communicate with passenger seat module.” “No repair at this time.”
The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 212,000.
The vehicle, (2007 Hyundai Santa Fe in excellent condition) struck a cow head on at 60 miles per hour and the airbags failed to deploy. It is available on request for a few months. The three occupants of the vehicle suffered from banging around inside. Concussion and sore muscles a few minor cuts but were otherwise very lucky. There was no prior indication of a problem with the airbags.
AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON FOR NO REASON KNOWN TO ME. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME IT NEED TO BE REPLACED. ITS THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG
TAKATA RECALL: AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ILLUMINATED. SEVERAL YEARS OF SANTA FE HAVE BEEN RECALLED. WHEN CHECKING MY VIN, NO RECALL APPEARS. IT'S THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE OTHER YEARS.
TAKATA RECALL : I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY MY AIRBAGS DO NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED OR ARE NOT LISTED FOR RECALL. IN THE SUMMERTIME THIS VEHICLE SITS IN 90 TO 100 OF A TEMPERATURES WITH THE AIRBAG BEING EXPOSED TO THIS HIGH HEAT.. WHEN I DO A VIN SEARCH THE ONLY THING THAT COMES UP IS A RECALL FOR THE HARNESS HITCH WHICH HAS NOT BEEN PERFORMED TO MY VEHICLE BECAUSE IT DOES NOT HAVE A TOW HITCH ON IT.
BOUGHT CAR AIRBAG WARNING CAME ON. NOTIFIED DEALER SAYS NOT RECALL. WHEN IN FACT AIR BAG HAS PROBLEM.
TAKATA RECALL I WAS JUST MADE AWARE OF THE AIRBAG RECALL. EVER SINCE I'VE HAD THIS VEHICLE, 7+ YEARS, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON. FOR THE FIRST FEW YEARS I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER SERVICE JUST BEFORE INSPECTION BY THE STATE OF NJ SO IT COULD PASS INSPECTION BUT IT ALWAYS CAME BACK ON A WEEK OR SO LATER. IT HAS REMAINED ON FOR ALL THESE YEARS WHEN STATIONARY & MOVING BUT I PUT IN A DATE SEVERAL YEARS AGO APPROXIMATING WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED. I'M SURE WHEN I TRADE IT IN THIS YEAR, IT WILL CAUSE THE TRADE-VALUE TO BE LOWER.

THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V472000 (AIR BAGS), BUT THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN.
AIR BAG LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON. DEALERSHIP FOUND CODE B1495. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PART , FOR THIS YEAR ON OTHER HYUNDAI MODELS. DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT IS THE SAME "BELT TENSION SENSOR UNIT" ON ALL THESE MODELS. WHY IS NOT THE SANTE FE ALSO INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 09V-497? THANK YOU *TR
TAKATA RECALL ABOUT MAY 2016 AIRBAG DASH LIGHT AND PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT MALFUNCTION, DASH LIGHT STAYS ON, PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT DOES NOT RECOGNIZE PASSENGER. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP ON 8/18/16, AND WAS DIAGNOSED THAT "PROBLEM DUE TO A MAKEUP BAG WEDGED UNDER PASSENGER SEAT CAUSING POOR CONTACT AT CONNECTORS." WITHIN 4 DAYS, AIRBAG DASH LIGHT AND PASSENGER LIGHT WERE MALFUNCTIONING AS INITIALLY DESCRIBED ABOVE. TOOK VEHICLE INTO DEALERSHIP ON 9/8/16 FOR SAME PROBLEM. DEALERSHIP DID A PODS RESET, A RECALIBRATION AS I UNDERSTAND IT. AIRBAG DASH LIGHT AND PASSENGER LIGHT WORKED FOR 24 HOURS BEFORE THEY MALFUNCTIONED AGAIN AS INITIALLY DESCRIBED ABOVE. FURTHER COMMUNICATION WITH DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN TO INFORM ME THAT THE "OCS MAT IS $2473.50 PLUS $312.50 FOR INSTALL. THAT'S THE WHOLE SEAT. HYUNDAI DOES NOT OFFER IT SEPARATE." THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. THIS IS NOT MY BILL TO FOOT, IT'S HYUNDAI'S. IN THE MEANTIME, I DON'T KNOW IF I HAVE AIRBAG PROTECTION.

I WAS STOPPED IN TRAFFIC ON A FREEWAY WHEN HIT FROM BEHIND. THE DRIVER CLAIMS HE WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH YET MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE AND IS IT NORMAL?
THIS VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A RECALL, HYUNDAI STATES THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH AIRBAGS, AFTER SUCCESSFULLY PROVING THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAGS WERE FAULTY AS DEFINED BY THE BBB, I WAS OFFERED $800 FORT CAR THAT BLUE BOOKS AROUND 10-12K. SINCE THE LAW FIRM IN CHARGE OF THE CLASS ACTION ONLY PROVIDED FOR THEMSELVES, THERE WERE NO FURTHER STEPS I COULD TAKE. OCTOBER ACCIDENT CAR WAS HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED HEAD ON AND THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY STRONG WITH THIS CAR. *TR

5/14/14 31,509MI AIR BAG LIGHT REMAINED ON AFTER MULTIPLE IGNITION OFF-ON CYCLES. DEALER FOLLOWED DIRECTIONS IN BUL.07-090-003. CODE B1332 WAS SHOWN BUT "NOT DEFINITIVE". CODE WAS ERASED AND AIRBAG LIGHT HAS REMAINED OFF FOR 2 DAYS. AT THE OUTSET, DEALER REP SAID THERE WOULD BE A 119$ CHARGE FOR DIAGNOSTICS (OUT OF WARRANTY). I OBJECTED STRENUOUSLY BECAUSE OF THE LOW MILEAGE, AIRBAG SAFETY IMPORTANCE, AND 2 PREVIOUS UNEXPLAINED AIRBAG-RELATED INCIDENTS (REPORTED BELOW). HE ALSO SAID THAT IF THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN THERE WOULD BE A $900 COST FOR REPLACING THE JUNCTION BOX (WITHOUT MENTIONING ERASING THE CODE AGAIN AS AN OPTION). EVENTUALLY THE 119$ WAS WAIVED AFTER I STRONGLY OBJECTED TO ANY CHARGES FOR SAFETY RELATED ITEMS, AND PARTICULARLY FOR THOSE THAT HAVE A DEMONSTRATED TRACK RECORD OF PROBLEMS. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT HYUNDAI AND ANY MANUFACTURER SHOULD STAND AIRBAG SAFETY AS A SEPARATE NON-WARRANTY ISSUE. ON THE 2007 SANTA FE, WHICH HAS HAD NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS RE AIRBAGS, I WOULD EXPECT HYUNDAI TO FIX THE PROBLEM ONCE AND FOR ALL AND AT NO CHARGE. AS AN ELECTRICAL ENGINEER, THIS SOUNDS LIKE A CLASSIC CASE OF "BUGGY" SOFTWARE AND/OR HARDWARE. THEY HAVE SIMPLY DODGED THE ISSUE AND CONTINUE TO DO SO, AND THEIR PERFORMANCE SUGGESTS THEY DON'T CARE FOR CUSTOMERS' SAFETY OR FEDERAL OVERSIGHT OF SAME. *TR
DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY DESPITE EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE INITIAL INSURANCE COMPANY REPORT PUTS VISIBLE DAMAGE AT 65% OF VALUE AND ANTICIPATES ADDITIONAL, UNSEEN DAMAGE WILL PUSH COST ABOVE 75% AND RESULT IN THE VEHICLE BEING TOTALED. *TR

THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ISSUED BY HYUNDAI (NHTSA ID 11V472000) FOR THIS EXACT REASON IN THE UNITED STATES. PROBLEM IS I LIVE IN SOUTH AFRICA AND OUR LEGAL SYSTEM IS NOT AS EFFICIENT AS YOURS IS SO MANUFACTURERS GET AWAY WITH NOT ISSUING RECALLS THAT ORIGINATE IN THE STATES. DO YOU HAVE A PART NUMBER FOR THE COIL SPRING THAT I CAN TRACK FROM HYUNDAI? ON FEBRUARY 23RD OF 2012 I RECEIVED A CLOCK SPRING REPLACEMENT THAT WAS UNDER CAMPAIGN 103-CLOCK SPRING REPLACEMENT TSB# 11-01-052 FOR 2007-2008 SANTA FE MODELS OR 2007-2008 VERACRUZ MODELS. MY HYUNDAI SANTA FE HAD 42,229 MILES ON IT AT THIS TIME. THE CAMPAIGN WAS PERFORMED REPLACING THE CLOCK SPRING WITH PART # 93490-2B300 AND PAID FOR UNDER WARRANTY AMOUNTING IN $0.00. HOWEVER, ON AUGUST 1ST OF 2013 THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE SAME REPLACEMENT WAS PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS 56,985 MILES ON IT AND WAS SCANNED FOR CODES AND ACCORDING TO PAPERWORK, B1481 AND B1332 WERE FOUND, INDICATING THE FAILURE OF THE CLOCK SPRING. THE CLOCK SPRING PART # 93490-2B300 WAS THEREFORE REPLACED AGAIN AMOUNTING TO $282.92 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. MY OWN EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY NOW HAD TO PAY FOR THIS PART THAT IN MY EYES IS A VEHICLE SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE PROCEEDED WITH MUCH CONCERN. IN ONE YEAR A VERY IMPORTANT PART CONTINUED TO FAIL WHICH, IF NOT WORKING PROPERLY AT THE TIME OF AN ACCIDENT CAN CAUSE EXTREME HARM TO THE DRIVER. THIS PART SHOULDN'T BE FAILING IN MY EYES UNLESS THE AIR BAG HAS BEEN DEPLOYED. I DON'T SEE HOW THIS PART IS SAFE IF IT HAS FAILED A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AFTER BEING REPLACED DUE TO A CAMPAIGN THAT WAS ISSUED BY THE HYUNDAI MANUFACTURER. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE MALFUNCTION RECURRED THE FOLLOWING DAY AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS 11V472000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL). THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE PRIOR TO THE RECALL REMEDY REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE RECENT FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

THE CLOCK SPRING CONTACT ASSEMBLY, INSTALLED BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL, THAT PROVIDES ELECTRICAL CONNECTION BETWEEN DRIVER'S AIR BAG AND AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE FAILED IN JUNE, 2010. THIS SAFETY HAZARD HAD TO BE REPAIRED ON JUNE 24, 2010 AND I HAD TO PAY FOR THE DEDUCTIBLE OF $100 ON THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. HYUNDAI RECENTLY ANNOUNCED A VEHICLE RECALL ON THIS SAFETY HAZARD (CAMPAIGN 103)--BUT REFUSES TO ACCEPT MY CLAIM FOR REPAIR REIMBURSEMENT OF THE REPAIR DEDUCTIBLE "BECAUSE I HAD THE CAR REPAIRED PRIOR TO THE DATES THEY ALLOWED FOR THIS CONDITION". I'VE OWNED SEVERAL HYUNDAI'S AND THIS IS ABSURD. MY REPAIR WAS JUNE 24, 2010 AND THEY WON'T ALLOW CLAIMS FOR ANY REPAIR PRIOR TO SEPTEMBER 8, 2010 (A MERE 10.5 WEEKS DIFFERENCE)! CLAIM [XXX].
